Less than seven months before 2015 general elections, more people are saying that the time is ripe for the Igbo to produce at least the Deputy Governor of Lagos State. According to an interview conducted by The Daily Sun, the latest call is coming from the Igbo United Initiative (IUI), a renown pressure group in the state. In the interview, the chieftain of the IUI, Chief Amobi Nnadiekwe, said that people from the South-East zone in Lagos will vote for any political party that fields an Igbo as deputy governor. Nnadiekwe, who doubles as the Chairman of Win Peace Investment Ltd, claims that the Igbo constitute 43 per cent of the population in Lagos. Below are excerpts from the interview: Your group has been sensitising the people of South-East to vote any political party that fields an Igbo as deputy governor of Lagos in 2015. So far, what has been the response? The response was wonderful. We plan to visit town unions and markets in Lagos State especially, the ones dominated by Igbo. It is time to be part of the political process in the state where Igbo contribute over 52 per cent to the state’s economy. Of course, you know that South-East constitutes 43 per cent of the state population. To that extent, we deserve the position of deputy governor. With the number of Ndigbo in Lagos, no doubt, if collectively we decide to vote for any party in Lagos, the party must win. Lagos State has continued to marginalize us politically, hence, Igbos have decided to demand for their right. We have written to all the political parties in the state, informing them of our resolve to vote any party that fields an Igbo as deputy governor. We have given them early notice, so that they won’t say we took them unawares as they are about to begin their primaries. Anything short of making an Igbo man deputy governor in 2015 will not be acceptable to Ndigbo. For the very first time, this vision has united Igbos in Lagos and in the Diaspora. This warning is extended to parties in the other states where Igbos are the second largest population. They should, as a matter of policy, field an Igbo man as deputy governor in 2015. The next stage is rally, which will be organized in the major centres in Lagos and in the affected states. What other steps do you hope to take to make this happen? Arrangements have been concluded to visit Igbo leaders and organizations including Ohaneze Ndigbo towards achieving this noble cause, because the population of Igbos in Lagos cannot be undermined in the forthcoming general elections in the state, even though we failed to realize this in the past. Our votes have always decided electoral victories in the state. Any party we vote for must win, hence, we refuse to be used to make up numbers in future elections in Lagos. Ndigbo will participate actively like never before in the 2015 general elections. We will continue to sensitize our people not to vote any party that fails to give the deputy governor slot to Igbos in Lagos. So, this is an assignment for parties jostling to win the gubernatorial race in the Centre of Excellence state next year. We don’t care about party, what matters most to Igbo is a party that has our interest at heart, whether APC, PDP, Labour or APGA. But if no party fields an Igbo man as deputy governor, we may be forced to boycott the governorship election in Lagos State. Why the demand for deputy governor slot instead of the governorship seat considering the population of Ndigbo in Lagos? It is possible for an Igbo to become governor of Lagos State. If you cast your mind back, you will remember that Zik won election as Premier of Western Region but was denied the opportunity and he ran back to become Premier of the Eastern Region. So, it is possible. If Ndigbo can come together, we will produce governor of Lagos State in the near future. We must start from somewhere, and that is the deputy governorship seat in 2015. Lagos is our second home. Majority of our investments are in Lagos and we have a good population. We are law-abiding citizens because there has never been any misunderstanding between Igbos and Lagosians. The relationship has been cordial, hence, even the indigenes wouldn’t mind to elect Igbo as governor. Don’t you think that the issue of indigenisation should be first enshrined in our constitution before making such demand? Indigenisation is one of the important issues addressed at the just concluded National conference. However, that won’t stop us from making genuine demands such as the one at hand. Indigenization is welcomed by all Nigerians. What it means is that a Yoruba man can be governor of Anambra State; an Hausa can contest and win a senatorial seat in Ondo State. And until we get to this stage, we are not yet a nation. Once again, I beg my brothers in Lagos State to allow Igbo participate fully in the 2015 political process in the state by zoning the position of deputy governor to Igbo. We have paid our dues and have contributed in the development of the state which warrants this demand. Except they see us as slaves who don’t deserve fair treatment. But if Lagosians are sincere, they would agree with me that Igbos are stakeholders in the Lagos project. We have developed virtually all parts of Lagos, a sign that we are not willing to leave the state or do anything to destroy or disrupt the relative peace in the state. If the truth must be told, Ndigbo have developed Lagos more than South East. The current governor of Lagos state is Babatunde Fashola of the All Progressives Congress. His second year tenure expires next year and the APC is yet to announce who would be representing the party in next year’s gubernatorial polls. Also, the major opposition party in Lagos State, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has not named a candidate for the governor seat in Lagos. Both parties are expected to hold their governorship primaries in a couple of months and political analysts are waiting patiently to see who they would announce as their flag-bearers. I totally support that.. Some of the churches are avenue for money making and no matter what, no economy crisis in church Ojisik: What a timely post,i had this argument this morning with a friend,YES!!! they should pay taxes because i feel that they sometimes use the church as a smokescreen for other businesses and as such they don't pay tax for those businesses,e.g: schools, bookshops, charity. They should also be made to get parking spaces for their members instead of blocking our roads every sunday morning...God is a God of order and parking on the road is a form.of disorderliness. |
A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, has dumped the opposition All Progressives Congress [APC] and joined the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP]. Mr. Ribadu was the presidential candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria [ACN] in 2011 and until his defection today considered one of the presidential prospects of the APC in the 2015 presidential election. A member of the executive committee of the PDP in Bako, Mr. Ribadu’s ward in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa state, told PREMIUM TIMES that the anti-corruption chief has been registered as a member of the party and given a party membership card. The source asked not to be named because he was not authorised to disclose the development to journalists. A PREMIUM TIMES report had detailed how the PDP leadership led by the party’s national chairman, Adamu Muazu, mounted pressure on Mr. Ribadu to join the party and be its candidate for the October 11 governorship election in Adamawa. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has already released a timetable for an election being organised to replace former Governor Murtala Nyako who was impeached by the State Assembly last month. Already, Acting Governor Umaru Fintiri and Awwal Tukur, a son of former chairman of the PDP, Bamanga Tukur, have picked the notice of intent form to seek the PDP governorship nomination for the election. A former military administrator of Lagos state, Buba Marwa, has also indicated interest in running. Efforts to speak with Mr. Ribadu or his spokesperson, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, were unsuccessful. Both men’s mobile telephones phones were switched off when PREMIUM TIMES tried to reach them. Mr. Ribadu is yet to publicly declare for the PDP although he has not refuted any of the reports linking him to the party. Source: http://saharareporters.com/2014/08/17/ribadu-dumps-apc-joins-pdp |
If someone should consider the amount been generated from churches and mosques nowdays, it is a huge amount of money. Some have even turn it to a business center. My opinion is that churches/mosques that doesn't run an orphange should be taxed!! Gbam |

Do not get me wrong, I am just been worried about the rate at which ladies/women visited the so called man of god for husband searching. Though I am not saying it is a bad idea but are they marriage counselor? Some visits pastor/imam to the extent of an herbalist doctor. When will our ladies wake up to do right thing? Even though it is very hard to find true love but I would rather prefer marriage counselor to any man of God. Even if you can't afford to pay for counselor consultation, there are so many books, websites about how to find a right partner. Just an opinion |
The police have fired tear gas to disperse protesting students of the Ogun State University, OOU, Ago Iwoye. PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the students, who were initially embarking on a peaceful protest, turned violent after the teargas and damaged some public property. The students had as early as 6:30 a.m. continued their protest that they commenced on Thursday. The students, Friday morning, occupied the Presidential boulevard, the route leading to the office of Governor Ibikunle Amosun. They said they would not let the governor, who was yet to arrive the scene, get to his office unless he addressed their demands. The OOU students have demanded a further reduction of their school fees, after the governor announced a reduction earlier in the week. They also want the reduction to commence from the current academic session and not the next as proposed by the state government. Over 100 policemen were seen at the venue of the protest on Friday morning before the dispersal. The protesting students seized a mass transit bus belonging to the state government and forced a security vehicle filled with soldiers from the scene. They told the soldiers to go look for the kidnapped Chibok girls rather than prevent their protest from holding. The development caused gridlock on the dual carriage road as many motorists had to make detour. Several civil servants working in the governor’s office were forced to return home following the blockade of the road. The students had commenced the protest on Thursday and camped at Rev Kuti Secondary School in Abeokuta for the night. They continued the protest at about 6:30 a.m. on Friday. The President of the univeristy’s Students Union Government, Olusegun Ifade, who addressed his colleagues had promised that the protest would be peaceful as they would avoid clashed with security operatives. ‘Let us conduct the protest in peaceful manner, but we have occupied this road for now until the governor attends to our demands. We are not leaving here,” he said. The protesters had on Thursday had a brief clash with rival students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic who came to declare support for the governor. The security officials present looked away while the clash occurred. The Ogun Police Commissioner, Ikemefuna Okoye, later arrived to address the protesting students asking them to conduct a peaceful protest. Guinea has a declared a national health emergency as it battles to curb the spread of the deadly Ebola virus. This meant tighter border controls, the immediate isolation of anyone suspected to have Ebola and a ban on moving bodies from one town to another, state radio reported. Ebola has killed more than 1,000 people in West Africa amid fears that it could spread to East Africa. This is the deadliest outbreak since the disease was discovered in 1976. There is no cure for Ebola, but the first consignment of the experimental drug, ZMapp, has arrived in Liberia from the US, reports the BBC’s Jonathan Paye-Layleh from the capital, Monrovia. On Tuesday, the World Health Organisation approved giving patients untested drugs. Ebola’s initial flu-like symptoms can lead to external haemorrhaging from areas such as eyes and gums, and internal bleeding which can lead to organ failure. Patients have a better chance of survival if they receive early treatment. Source: BBC News

An experimental drug for treatment of Ebola has been provided by a Nigerian in diaspora and will arrive the country today, health minister Onyebuchi Chukwu, has said. The drug, called “Nanosilver”, can now be used following the approval by the World Health Organisation (WHO) that experimental treatments are ethical in the case of the Ebola pandemic. The Nigerian government authorised the use of experimental drugs on Wednesday. The US sent ZMapp, another experimental drug, to Liberia on Wednesday, while Canada has decided to donate 1,000 vaccines to the affected countries. According to Chukwu, the experimental drug is a donation from a Nigerian scientist who was concerned about threat of Ebola in his home country. “The drug will reach Nigeria today,” he said. Chukwu disclosed that the 169 secondary contacts were still under surveillance, while in all Ebola 11 cases had been recorded, including the index case, Patrick Sawyer, and the two Nigerians who died of the disease. “Some of the people under surveillance have completed the 21 days incubation period, and we have to let them go,” he said. The minister said the nurse, who is a primary contact, who had travelled to Enugu had not developed the symptoms as of the time of her trip, dispelling fears that she might have infected other people. “In Enugu yesterday, there were 21 secondary contacts with the nurse, but after investigations, there are only six secondary contacts now,” he stated. “The nurse who is newly-wedded had no symptoms of the disease when she travelled to Enugu, and while coming back to Lagos she travelled in a special ambulance with her husband. Her husband is under quarantine now.” Chukwu maintained that only Lagos state has recorded Ebola cases. Source: http://www.thecable.ng/breaking-ebola-drug-arrives-nigeria-today | TheCable |

A Nigerian nurse, who had contacts with the dead Liberian, Patrick Sawyer in Lagos has escaped being quarantined. The Nation reports that the nurse who in a bid to avoid being quarantined, fled to the eastern part of Enugu, her hometown. She has however made contacts with 20 people who are under surveillance for a suspected case of the deadly disease in Enugu. This was made known by the Information Minister Labaran Maku, who confirmed that said the nurse, who herself has a suspected Ebola Virus Case EVD . Are you feeling down? Do you want to get over this bad mood? Do bad moods visit you often? If you want to get rid of something then you should first understand it. Most people experience bad moods without even knowing why. They relate these feelings to the first thing that comes to their minds like a recent fight they had with their boss or just the stress they get subjected to. In fact you might be feeling bad for a completely different reason than the reason that came to your mind and the key to getting over bad moods is to understand their root cause. Your current state of feeling is the result of all of the life experiences you have been through up until this moment. The fight you had yesterday with your close friend and the bad grades you got the day before represent only a little part of your current emotional state. The good things that recently happened to you are also a part of this same emotional state even if you don't feel good at all right now. For example the complement you received today from one of your friends is a part of your current emotional state. Summing up all the good and the bad things that happened to you will result in the resultant mood which is the current emotional state you are experiencing now. Anyone can become happier by fixing his resultant mood. If twenty things were bothering you at the moment while 10 of them were totally out of your control then you can definitely feel better by changing the 10 that you have control over. Many people developed the bad habit of accumulating small problems thinking that they should first deal with the bigger ones first. This is one reason that lead to bad moods because when simple problems accumulate they make bigger ones even worse. This faulty key in your keyboard, this car you have to fix and this important phone call you have to make will make your big problems worse without you notice. You are always in a state of receiving information from the world through your five senses. The more unresolved problems you have the more likely you will receive data that can remind you of these problems and so make you feel down. Knowing the reason behind your bad mood can be as effective as solving few small problems Simply because not knowing the reason behind your bad feelings is considered another problem which will be reflected in your bad mood too. So to summarize the actions you need to do to end bad moods: Isolate your problems, start solving them one by one and don’t accumulate small ones. Break the cycle of negative thinking and you will reduce your bad feelings. |
The reason lots of people fail to attract the ones they want is that they have false beliefs about attraction. For example a girl might believe that she needs to look like a super model in order to attract a guy ,while in fact, people fall for people who are much less attractive than the ones they used to dream of. The reason people settle for ordinary persons is that the process of attraction is governed by the subconscious mind which doesn't always use logic to ignite emotions. Below are some of the most important principles that governs attachment: Attachment leads to attraction: Once someone gets used to a person or once a person believes that someone can help him meet some of his emotional needs he will become attached to him. If that other person didn't show up as frequently as expected the attachment grows and might even turn into passion. As soon as you capture someone's attention don't always be available. Attachment happens if its not impossible: While some people fall in love with celebrities still the majority of people would never fall in love with a person whom they don't interact with directly. This means that being available around the person you like would certainly trigger attachment provided that you act correctly whenever you are around him. Don't confuse this with the previous point, you need to be available until attachment starts to happen and once you see that happening you need to be less available Show off Indirectly: People hate others who show off directly but they adore those who show off indirectly!! Try to tell the new people you just met that you have a great expensive car parking outside and see their reaction now compare this to putting your car keys on the table in front of them without talking about it. In the second case you will be regarded as more resourceful and you will earn higher status without being labeled showy. In short, help people discover good things about you without talking about them Predictability kills passion: People get bored of the things they are familiar with because they can expect the next event before it happens. The same goes for predictable people, if everything you did was predictable and expected then people will get bored of you quickly. Instead try to confuse the person you like by sending mixed signals, that would be enough to let him think about you more often Thinking leads to attachment: If you managed to occupy a part of the other person's mind then most probably this will let him become attached to you over time. Its a game of attention, the more attention you get the more attached will the other person be |

we can’t deny that there are some fundamental differences between men and women – from how we are socialized to the chemical and hormonal differences that naturally occur. Thus, I thought it appropriate to follow up with a post on the difference between dating a girl, vs a woman. Again, many points on this post would apply if you switched the genders around. A boy is attracted to girls. A man is attracted to women. Now, this has nothing to do with the actual age of a person. I’m referring to maturity, life vision and stage of life. In fact, some people regardless of their age, will never really grow up. Also, this isn’t to say that a woman won’t ever have “girlish” or immature tendencies or vice versa. This post refers to one’s maturity and most points would also apply if you switch the genders as well. If you are a boy, then expect that you will attract only girls. However, if you are a man (independent, knows your worth and value, has a strong moral compass, is considerate and an able communicator and doesn’t let insecurity dominate your psyche), then you should be dating a woman. And if you can’t spot the difference just yet, here are some pointers. 1. A girl throws tantrums. When displeased, upset or angry, she reacts just as she did as a child when she didn’t get her way with her parents. This often consists of screaming, pouting, giving the silent treatment, being passive aggressive and/or punishing. A woman still feels the emotions of being upset/displeased, but has cultivated the skill of responding versus reacting. She comes to the table as an adult, and communicates clearly what is bothering her. 2. A girl perceives herself as a princess and believes people should treat her like so. She is entitled and feels that she is owed and therefore expects more than she appreciates. A woman, has standards (what she holds herself to) not expectations (what she projects on to others). 3. A girl uses her physical beauty as her currency and basis of value. A girl may be so used to feeling validated through her looks and sexuality, that she uses this as her primary tool to get what she wants in life. A woman, knows her worth is beyond her physicality. A woman bases her value on her intelligence, her strength, her integrity, her values, her contributions, her humanity. 4. A girl banks on a man to be her financial strategy. A woman plans to be financially independent – she banks on… herself. And if she so happens to enter a relationship dynamic where it makes sense for her partner to be the primary breadwinner, it’s considered a bonus, not the expected life line. 5. A girl sees the world from a place of lack and scarcity. She competes and will even tear down another in order to secure resources or a mate. A woman helps other women. She knows that there’s plenty enough to go around and takes the high road of integrity to get what she wants. 6. A girl cannot be bothered with anything domestic and is proud of the fact that she cannot cook or clean. A woman understands that being domestic is not a duty, but understands that it is one way of taking care of herself and others. She also understands that in the event she wants to create a family, having a person in the household who can contribute domestically is important. 7. “A girl wants attention, a woman wants respect. A girl wants to be adored by many. A woman wants to be adored by one.” -anonymous 8. A girl does not respect her body. She has not yet understood that her body and heart are sacred, and that it’s important to be mindful of how she treats it and who she shares it with. “A girl cherishes handbags, diamonds and her shoe collection as her prize possessions. A woman cherishes her health, her sense of self, and her talents as her greatest assets.” – N. Mah 9. A woman takes the time to reflect on the type of human she wants to be, the example she wants to leave and the vision for her life. She has put thought into her values and what she stands for. A girl has not established her moral compass or values and consequently, is often inconsistent. “After spending time with a girl, you feel exhausted because she takes more than she gives. After spending time with a woman, you feel invigorated, because she empowers you with possibility, and a passion for life.” – N. Mah 10. A girl has a checklist that prioritizes superficial qualities above anything else. Here is an example of how this checklist may look: Hot, popular, wears skinny jeans, over 6 feet tall, rich.. This is the checklist of what a woman may look for: High integrity, intelligent, kind, good communicator, emotionally available… Now, a lot of these differences require taking the time to know someone to figure out if the apple of your eye is indeed a mature woman, or someone with an immature mindset. However, one of the quickest filters that you can notice from the beginning is this: 11. A girl plays games. A woman doesn’t. Additional, A girl jumps from one social circle to another, making fast friends that don’t last. A woman values her deep friendships and nurtures that bond with time, gratitude, energy and thoughtfulness. |
Internal locus of control is the trait that allows the person to take responsibility of the events that happen to him in his life without blaming luck, fate or God. A person who has internal locus of control will always believe that he has more control over his life than a person who has an external locus of control. That's why most successful people belong to the first group. After all life is full of disappointments and when you became the type of person who blames everything around him when he fails then your chances of success will be very low. Successful people admit making mistakes then work on new plans that help them recover from the mistakes they did. As a result of this definition some people think that religion and internal locus of control cannot coexist together. There is a popular false belief that states that religious people will never try to challenge life problems because they consider them to be God's will. Contrary to common beliefs internal locus of control does not contradict with any of the religious beliefs that Christians ,Muslims,Jews or any other God worshiping religion have. Most of these religious books talk about god's will and how you should accept the situation you are in whatever it is because this is how God wanted it to be. While that's 100% percent correct still having an internal locus of control does not mean that you will rebel against God's deeds. Internal locus of control means that whenever you find one road blocked you should try a second, and a third and never lose hope by or blaming the blockage of one road on the current economic conditions, political conditions or God's will. Maybe God blocked one road to open another one for you. By complaining about that blocked road instead of looking for the other ones that were opened you will definitely end up thinking like people who have external locus of control. All of the religious books without exception talk about hope and how it should never be lost whatever happened. Internal locus of control is about not losing hope to try something else. Internal locus of control is not blaming someone else for things you didn't do correctly or things you didn't try hard enough to reach. Do your best, Worship God and never blame external conditions. This matter is bothering me. "Why is it that when you are the APC member, you become a terrorist or have link with Boko Haram, or sponsor Boko Haram? But when you defect to the PDP, you will no more be considered as a Boko Haram sponsor or a terrorist? Instead, they will kill a cow and announce that some members of the APC have defected to the PDP. "Again, all the Northerners who are members of the PDP are all innocent of terrorism, but those who are non-PDP are all terrorists. "My question is: is it that the PDP and the APC are fighting over who will lead the Boko Haram organization, or are they calling us a fools? "Or is it that when you commit crime as a PDP member it becomes a holy crime? Or is the PDP a camp for crime committers where impeached governors still return back to power, and where criminals who stole Nigerian funds still being presented to contest for a governor's post as their crimes are pardoned because of the PDP membership card? "Or is it that the PDP is encouraging all kidnapers to obtain PDP membership card in order to legalize their kidnapping crimes?" Why the mutual accusations? Source: NAIJ.COM READERS HAVE A SAY!
