Final 2002: Zinédine Zidane’s volley against Bayer 04 Leverkusen It was Zidane’s Champions League-winning goal for Real Madrid CF that arguably encapsulates his lasting legacy. Roberto Carlos crossed the ball high into the box and Zidane, 18 yards out and seemingly off balance, adjusted his body and, in one smooth movement, pirouetted and caught the ball full on the volley. It flew past Hans-Jorg Butt and with no further goals scored, clinched Real Madrid CF their 9th European Champions Clubs’ Cup. |
"Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life" |

"Life and Jah are one in the same. Jah is the gift of existence. I am in some way eternal, I will never be duplicated. The sigularity of every man and woman is Jah's gift. What we struggle to make of it is our sole gift to Jah. The process of what that struggle becomes, in time, the Truth." |

Now that IBB has realised how much the nigerian populace hates him he wanted to be relevant and play on our intelligence by calling for MKO ABIOLAs immortalisation ( HE ANNULLED THE MOST FREE & FAIREST JUNE 12 ELECTION IN THE HISTORY OF NIGERIA AND INDIRECTLY MURDERED ABIOLA IN PRISON). His likes will never be president of this country again because nigerian youths are ready to take their destinies in their hands. Most of the vices in nigeria like drugs, corruption, political murders are traceable to the babangidas presidency days. I THINK IBB IS SUFFERING FROM AMNESIA BECAUSE HOW DO WE DISSECT HIS AMBITION TO BE PRESIDENT OF THIS COUNTRY AGAIN, BUT LIKE ADAGE SAYS 'HE WHO THE GODS WANT TO KILL IT FIRST MADE MAD'. IBB we know you are on the edge but first tell us what happened to the $12b oil windfall, Dele Giwas death and other evils you committed while in officeAbi oooooooo. thank u my broda |
ibb is taking nigerians for a ride. u know we have short memories. nigerians never had so bad under is regime- economy began its downtown ride. If i ibb can not deliver for gud 8yrs, what has he got to offer now? i dont buy it. make he find him maga go front. |
monkeyleg:seconded, it is the duty of government to provide infrastructure for the people- constitutional obligation. if ibori build bridges so what? it is the right of the people not a privilge. i get sick evry time i open the pages of newspapers n c this pple glorifying their achievements while they rob us blind. |
first and foremost corruption as being institutionalised in nigeria. i support this idea of death sentence for offenders. believe me we all be better off if can keep corruption to the barest minimum. |
this pple are not untouchables, if the fG is serious bout fighting corruption they send a strong msg to uAE. Granting ibori assylum is inimical to our national interest. |
This re-branding thing is a joke. It cannot work. Even among nigerians the brand is not popular; they just want to flush the money down the drain. Come to Lagos and learn how to rebrand nigeria. |
WHILE nigeria may be kurrpt i do not thinkit is right for u to say that it is hoe of corruption. there is kurruption evrywhere even in america. gov of illionis. eron scam ,hallibuton bribry scandal, the list is endeless. the difference is that their own brand of corruption is functional. The project is executed, it after execution that corruption kicks in. but here it is dyfunctional, money is realsed for non existent project |
EFCC declares Vaswani brothers wanted over N3billion rice duty fraud. Yusuf Alli, Managing Editor, Northern Operation and Dele Anofi, Abuja. The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mrs. Farida Waziri, yesterday declared the Vaswani brothers wanted over a N3billion rice duty scam. Waziri, who made the declaration at a sudden briefing in Abuja said the three wanted Vaswani brothers-Sunil, Mahesh, and Haresh- had escaped to Europe and Dubai . She, however, claimed that five others, suspected to be either members of the Vaswani family or workers, had been arrested by the commission. Mrs. Waziri said: “The EFCC is investigating Stallion Group of Companies and the Vaswani Brothers, who are the owners of the company. The Vaswani Brothers have been engaging in activities that are inimical to the economy. “Recently, they defrauded the Federal Government of Nigeria of the sum of N3billion through one of their business outfits. The fraud was perpetrated through under payment of customs duties while importing rice into the country. “We have effected some arrest; five people are in our custody. But the Vaswanis brothers had left the country before we moved in. They are now between Europe and Dubai .” Responding to a question, Waziri said: “Yes, the Vaswani Brothers are wanted in connection with this N3billion fraud.” She gave insight into the activities of the Vaswani bothers and their intermittent cases with the commission. She said: “The Company, the Stallion Group, has been d doing business in Nigeria and the scope of their business involved commodities and sales of automobiles. In 2003, the commission investigated the company and this led to the deportation of the Vaswani brothers by the Federal Government. “However their companies were allowed to carry on business in Nigeria . In 2007, they were allowed back into Nigeria after several appeals. However, recent investigations of the activities of the company and its owners show clearly that they have continuously and consistently perfected the art of underpayment of custom duties due to the Federal Government of Nigeria. “The commission will continue to investigate the other facets of the criminal activities of this company and its owners.” Asked if the crime committed by the Vaswani Brothers had anything to do with importation of rice by the Federal Government, Waziri added: “This is not part of the FG’s imported rice, it is their own importation. The underpayment of customs duties came to us by way of intelligence report. “They imported six cargo loads of rice and before we moved in, the rice had been disposed off. There was nothing in their warehouse. We have a warehouse which is empty. I was told by an insider that they sold out the rice on the spot because they already had the market.” On the alleged collusion of some officers of the Nigeria Customs Service with the Vaswanis, Waziri said: “As I told you, there is always collusion within but whosoever is involved will be dealt with.” She denied allegation of witch-hunting the Vaswanis explaining that “if they are doing legitimate business, we have no cause to go after them. “I was not here when they were deported for the first time in 2003. Normally, when you investigate, people can say anything. They alleged witch-hunt and that the EFCC is on the side of Nigerian businessmen. But we are not out to witch-hunt anyone but we won’t watch and allow some people to destroy the economy of Nigeria .” The EFCC chairman seized the opportunity to warn foreign nationals Nigeria against indulging in economic sabotage. She added: “However, the commission is concerned about the activities of foreign nationals in Nigeria . While Nigeria is prepared and ready to accept foreign investors and businessmen, it is disturbing that this has been continuously abused. “The commission is concerned about the role that foreign nationals have assumed in sabotaging the economy with its resultant effect of the crash of the Naira against the dollar. “The commission has witnessed in the recent past several cases of foreign businessmen engaging in all forms of economic sabotage. “Apart from the Stallion Group, there has been the case of a foreign national (Patrick Fernandez) who engaged in cheque kitting and fraudulent banking activities that led to losses of over N17billion for Nigerian banks. Some of these money we found out were wired outside the country. “Further in the aviation case that the commission investigated, a foreign national (George Eider) prominently featured in the N19billion Aviation Fund saga. Recently too, we have had to charge to court and secured the conviction of 13 nationals of Philippines for oil bunkering in the Niger Delta. “Again, we have investigated and are currently prosecuting cases of oil bunkering against six Ghanaians and their Nigerian accomplices. “The commission therefore warns all individuals and entities, whether foreign nationals or citizens of Nigeria , who engaged in any adverse economic activity, that it will deal decisively with such cases. The negative effect of these kinds of activities impacts on our collective survival as Nigerians. “We wish to assure you that the commission is more determined than before to ensure that the laws of the land are brought to bear on those whose trade is to create wealth for themselves by committing all forms of economic and financial crimes. We shall not stand by and watch the economic stability of the country being sacrificed on the altar of greed.” ENDS Who are really the Vaswani brothers? |
