F1: "Via the US Diversity Lottery Program, 2008 fiscal year."     VO: "Ok."

VO: "You are going to X University for your Master's degree in Y program?"
F1: "Yes sir."

VO: "How did you learn about the school?"
F1: "I did from the rankings of US News & World Report and Newsweek magazine, both, ", F1 cut short by VO

VO: Nods his head. "You don't need to explain."  F1: "Yes, sir"

VO: "How many schools did you apply to apart from this school?"   
F1: "2. Uni of Michigan, Ann Arbor; Uni of Houston, Texas."

VO: " The outcomes?"
F1: " Umich is still deciding, Uhouston replied I'dbe considered for Fall 2011."    VO: "OK."

VO: " You have any standardized tests to show me, GRE TOEFl?"
F1: " All were waived for me, and here is a letter to that effect."    VO: "Let me have it."

VO: "You are a young man, what exactly did you submit to get the waivers?"
F1: " My WAEC SSCE, and my Uni sent them my transcripts."

VO: "You have your transcripts here, or your certificate, etc.?"
F1: " I just graduated and my certifcate is not ready. Uni doesn't give transcript directly to student and I haven't my transcript." 

F1: " However, I wrote GRE 3wks back, just for the fun of it."   
VO: "Let me see your GRE result then"

( As F1, was taking out the GRE from his folder, )

VO: " I can see your WAEc there, let me have that too."   
F1: "OK sir, here they are."

VO: "Which area of Computer Science do you want to specialise in?"
F1: " I am looking at Theory of Computations."

VO: " So tell me about Theory of Computations."
(Concisely, F1 told him in few seconds)

F1: "I hope to write my thesis on 'Frame-of-reference transformations involving eigenvectors of autocorrelation matrices.'
(VO looked up. It seems he is lettered in F1's field of study)

VO:" What are your plans after your studies?"
F1: "I will proceed onto my PHD, also in the US, and after that start working,
( Then f1 remebered that he has said what SHOULD not have been SAID)
F1: "Sorry, I will return to Nigeria and see how I can put my knowledge to good use"

VO:"Why should you return to Nigeria, of what use will your research area be of use in Nigeria?"
F1:"Computing is still nascent in Nigeria.I surely would find something to do"

VO: "Who is your sponsor?"
F1: "My mum"

VO: "Can I see her bank statement?"
FI gave him

VO:"What does she do?"
F1:"She sells lumbers. 'lumbers' as in furniture making materials,
(Vo nods his head and cut F1 short from further explanations)

VO: "I am going to issue your visa because I see you as a young man with strong potentials. Ensure you take your i20 with you when travelling, and make your travel plan after Dec 10. Take this green ticket and go collect your visa at this address in 2days."

VO: "Ensure you make America proud."
F1: "Thank you sir."

Three VOs':

i)   Cubicle 7: Nice, beautiful, young friendly, and smiling girl. She happily granted visas for applicants that were genuine or convincing liars.

ii)  Cubicle 8: A guy shouting at people, sadistic in attitude, middle aged, and denying visas.  

iii) Cubicle 9: An averagely aged man, averagely granting visas.

As luck would have it, a voice announced, "next applicant should come to cubicle 8, please." And it was F1's turn.

You can not request for an emergency appointment. The only option you have is to cancel the appointment and look for an earlier one. If you choose that, VFS deactivates your present receipt for 60days. You can rebook another appointment before 60days only with a new VFS receipt.

Your SEVIS number is linked to your nationality. When you input your SEVIS number at the site, you are automatically recognized as a Nigerian, irrespective of your geographic location. You can experiment.

You were incorrect. Irrespective of their geographic location, a Nigerian can not pay for SEVIS via credit card. It doesn't help to misinform.

Nipost is fine if you use a PO Box when receiving your documents. If you are sending abroad and use their "registered" service, your documents will surely get there. They can't really be blamed if your document gets lost due to the usage of house address. Our town planning system should be blamed for that.

1) Contact the conference organizer to know if space still exists for new registrant. If Yes, book your space and pay the conference fee.

2) Get a Nigerian passport if you have none.

3) Go to UBA with your passport to pay 5800Naira, US visa appointment fee. This enables you to schedule appointment at the US mission.

Publicise after completion of the above 3 steps. We continue from there.

If your I-20 has not arrived by 11.59pm on Wednesday, Oct 10, you should cancel your appointment. That time is the last before VFS puts a lock on your appointment of Oct 15. You will not lose 5800Naira if your I-20 fails to deliver.

Insularity is destructive.

Suppose your brother gets selected in the lottery, and of course every applicant has an equal chance of this, he probably will NEVER need to APPLY for or RENEW US visas again for the rest of his life.

F1 visa can be denied, same applies to visa renewal, but a selected and processed visa lottery entrant is a US LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENT. You are free to work, study, live, and travel UNRESTRICTEDLY. You pay US citizen tuition at school, which is far less than what an F1 visa holder pays. You have no fear of running out of status, deportation, and SEVIS fee and Form I-20 are FOREVER inapplicable to you; you are able to secure loans, and more importantly,you NEVER need any US citizen to ENSLAVE you because you want to get your permanent residence. Many countries either allow you visa-free visits or make their visa processes not stressful for you. You also becomes a US citizen in 4-5years if you wish.

Your brother has a chance of getting selected in the lottery and everything falls into place for him. He also has a chance of F1 visa denial, applying for the lottery or not, in which everything[b] falls out of place for him[/b].

Right now, at Abuja mission, there are available dates in December. Book that first. Keep checking and if you are able to find November later, you cancel and rebook.

I meant when you were already inside Abuja. Are there usually traffic hold-ups on the route to the embassy? Do you take "drop" there? From where? Etc, etc., etc.

It is absolute misinformation. Applying for the visa lottery program has no effect on your non-immigrant application. I would urge proponents of the theory to always research very well before posting.

If you want to counterclaim, have you EVER seen or HEARD a visa officer, when making their visa decision, asking an interviewee if they have applied for the visa lottery program? The answer is NO.

Always post confirmed truth.

No one but the school can guarantee you the admission. If the school does accept you, I see them noting on your I-20 that you have not acquired satisfactory competence in English. Probably, they may require you to attend their English Language Institute before commencing your undergraduate studies.

Try and improve on your knowledge of English. Your written English is not too good for a prospective student in an English-speaking country. If you are same verbally, it might negatively affect your visa application during interview. Goodluck.

Are the above scores presentable to the embassy? Please note it was done in a hurry and solely to boost the chance of visa issuance for a computer science major. Is the online result print-out valid in case the official one has not arrived before the interview date? When will the online version be put there? It is not yet there now and the test was taken a week back.

You have to pay the $1000 before the school will issue your I-20. There is no other way around that.

How long does it take to receive the GRE official result by post from ETS? Also, how long does it take for the results to be displayed on the taker's GRE profile on the internet?

1) You will be 40 when you graduate; those guys now how the Nigerian employment system works. No company will employ someone of your age, you have limited years of active service if you want to return to your present work. In other words, you want to spend money that is unlikely to yield returns.
2) HND is roughly equivalent to Bsc, the interpretation by the government; why do you still want to pursue another now in the US?Why not an Msc?
3) Why will a man of 36years want to leave his family and a well paying job for far away USA? Probably, those ties are non existent.
