Exactly my thoughts; I hear people complain and b/i/t/ch about Nigeria yet they are NOT providing any solution to reach on the resolve on the problems.

My fellow American, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.

By John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of the United States (1961 - 1963)

As you can see my fellow Nigerians, ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what can I do for my country.
Before you advise pther people, you yourself need to understand the words you are quoting and the context it was said. Only an ediot would follow words written by another individual without at least trying to understand the deeper meaning and implication of those words:

This is a counter argument to what Kenedy said, from none other than Milton:

In a much quoted passage in his inaugural address, President Kennedy said, “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.” It is a striking sign of the temper of our times that the controversy about this passage centered on its origin and not on its content. Neither half of the statement expresses a relation between the citizen and his government that is worthy of the ideals of free men in a free society. The paternalistic “what your country can do for you” implies that the government is the patron, the citizen the ward, a view that is at odds with the free man’s belief in his own responsibility for his own destiny. The organismic, “what you can do for your country” implies that the government is the master or the deity, the citizen, the servant or the votary.

To the free man, the country is the collection of individuals who compose it, not something over and above them. He is proud of a common heritage and loyal to common traditions. But he regards government as a means, an instrumentality, neither a grantor of favors and gifts, nor a master or god to be blindly worshipped and served.
As if that was not enough, and for ediots like you, Milton elaborated further saying, in his book, Capitalism and Freedom:

The free man will ask neither what his country can do for him nor what he can do for his country. He will ask rather "What can I and my compatriots do through government" to help us discharge our individual responsibilities, to achieve our several goals and purposes, and above all, to protect our freedom? And he will accompany this question with another: How can we keep the government we create from becoming a Frankenstein that will destroy the very freedom we establish it to protect

davidylan:
you never hear of such because it is mostly institutionalised i.e. generally accepted.
I worked at FUT Yola for a year and had the job of deciding what students to admit to 2nd yr DE in the department of URP . . . i dare say i had to turn down several way more qualified yoruba and igbo christians for below par northern muslims as per school policy.
First of all whats URP?

Secondly, what year are you talking about because I used to work at FUT Yola.

No need to malign an ethnic group just so you could feel better. You ought to know better than that.

CU has done nothing wrong here

They have broken no law and they are within their rights to deny anyone admission.

If the guy is that brilliant, let him take JAMB again and apply to other schools. Look at the way the parents are behaving sef, very rascally.

WebmastersSeun: Why Nigerian Newspapers Fail by arsenefc(op): 3:31am On Sep 29, 2011
Hypothesis: Nigerian blogs tend to succeed where newspaper sites have failed or refused to go. Linda Ikeji is successful because entertainment journalists don't like to post damaging rumors about their famous friends. Sahara Reporters is successful because newspapers refuse to publish unconfirmed rumors & 'sensitive' news. True?

Over sabi, JUST like EKT BEAR.  You both need to chill out sometimes and just listen. One would expect you all to frequent Blackplanet. com or stormfront more often, giving your more Americanized background,  but NO, you just like to poke your dirty akata nose in things that are of no concern to you on NL.

Anyway, I think you are more reasonable though. Just mind your lane okay, and you will be just fine.

Northerners are afraid of true federalism in Nigeria because it will further lead to backwardness of the North. The North is an economic parasite to Nigeria.
Just dont say it to their face, coward.

BTW, just a bit of history, Northerners were the first set of people to advocate against "one Nigeria."

The opponents of True federalism arent just northerners, they include very well respected southerners as well . This is not a North/South issue. There are dangers and real concerns.

The federal minimum wage never made sense to me either.
I am sure the hardworking people earning minimum wage, while slaving away their future and that of their children, would agree with you.

ekt_bear:
Are they running up $1 million+ in parking fees in Abuja or Lagos?

Cannot "t.it for tat" if the other guy is in the clear and you are in the wrong.
Of course not, because we provide ample parking spots to them even when it wasnt feasible to do so.

Go to Carrington street and see how well they are catered for.

This is a matter of common courtesy. You dont expect diplomats to be looking for parking spots, going round in circles, when they have important international matters to attend to? or do you?

If they cant cater to our diplomats parking needs in their country, we should take away whatever free parking privilege they enjoy in our country. An eye for an eye.
PoliticsRe: Abandoned Apartments In Lagos Taken Over By Aliens by arsenefc: 2:51am On Sep 28, 2011
Tear down a property that is still standing and is just as good as the others around it? Auction off a private property and deport aliens who most likely would come back in no time? . . . Brilliant idea!

Too many demented intellectuals on NL grin. No idea whatsoever about what they are talking about. Very unrealistic ideas!

Please let America stay in America and let us, Nigerians, do our thing OUR WAY (Humanely, commonsensically, and most important, NAIJA-LY grin)

No one is persecuting anybody.

You can never justify corruption, no matter how hard you try. Even if it is persecution, let him go to court and clear himself. Thats all.
