45 MONTHS AGO “Easy mom, that hurts!” she cried out. Her mother, Mrs Katsina, laughed when her husband complained. “Take it easy with her hair fa. If you can’t plait her hair properly without hurting her, then let me take my angel to a hair salon. There are plenty professionals outside oh.” “Yes daddy!” Ayisat smirked. Mrs Katsina intentionally tightened her hold on Ayisat’s hair and she yelped the more, ”serves you right, ask your father if he is paying me and as for you, dear daddy, maybe I should run to my father too.” “You are not going anywhere and I already paid you everything this morning so be gentle on her please,” her father replied. Rasak and Musa came out. “Mommy, take us to a barber’s shop too!” Musa said. Ayisat frowned and snapped,” silly thing! Who called you both out?” Rasak defended his twin brother,” leave us oh, if father loves you more us then mother loves us more than you.” Their father stood up, he walked towards the twins and patted their shoulder each. “Father loves no one more than another, I love all of you the same okay?” “But you both are mommy’s boys !” their mother said and they all burst into laughter. PRESENT She was sobbing before she could stop herself, her husband had just saw her mother-in-law off after she glared at her and promised her hell if she failed to get pregnant by the time she visit again. Earlier, she had been so happy but now her joy had turned sour. She was reminded once more why she married Khalid, She knelt down and cried in anguish. Why had her life turned like this? She was once a member of a small but comfortable family, they were not wealthy but they were content with what they had. Her father had always joked he would collect a lot of things from her fiancé as her bride price when it was time for her to get married. He was no more now, taken away cruelly from this world by a drunk driver who is nowhere to be found till date. Her mother followed shortly after series of illness, all their father left was spent to cure her but all this to no avail, she died anyways. She was purchased for her husband to only bare children for him, whatever bride price her only surviving relative could have collected was been used to send her brothers to school. What was she going to do? How could she get pregnant when Khalid had just touched her once after days of begging? What if he wasn’t satisfied with her performance of last night and he would not touch her again? “Oh! What will I do?” she cried harder. Khalid was surprised when he came and saw that she was no longer in the dinning room and also not in the parlour, he went to look for her and found her in his study room. Whatever relief he felt for having found her was replaced by worry when he heard her crying. “Ayisat, what is the problem?” She was clearly taken aback and this made her wiped her tears in hurry. ”Nothing,” He moved nearer and helped her to her feet, he touched her cheeks affectionately.” You are lying, nothing makes you cry or are you going to tell me you were not crying too?” It was pointless lying to him and unable to so any longer, she burst into the fresh tears. “She is driving me out, isn’t she?” she asked amidst tears. He shook his head, “no, that is not happening.” “But she will stop funding my brothers’ schooling right?” Again he shook his head and told her she didn’t mention anything like that, he might have told her the truth but he knew deep down in him that it would eventually happen if and when she fault her for his curse. Ayisat didn’t believe him and she voiced this out, “you are lying! She will and I will be chased out soon!” He calmed her down, “listen to me Ayi, you are mine and anyone who has a problem with you also has with me. If my mother do as you fear, then I will continue the payment myself just as I plan to pay yours too. All I need you to do is continue to read harder so that you can get into a good institution.” “She would never agree to it once she learns about all you want to do for me and what about the children I’m to bear you? We have only done it once and I _ _ _” Khalid smiled at her choice of word and further calmed her down, “let me worry about my mother and as for having babies, we will surely work towards that and if Allah wishes, we will one day have our own.” She felt relieved a bit and smiled weakly, she was surprised and shocked when he leaned down and kissed her. This made her not to respond at first but she eventually did. He kissed her passionately longer than he had ever done, he had to stop when it seemed like he was suffocating her. When he embraced her, she felt her trembled but he didn’t let go of her. If only she knew what he was feeling, he had not even admit it to himself yet but he knew better. Who could ever thought he would fall in love with her? A girl he was old enough to father! |
Jbfranklin:O Shey! Chemistry Guru, I hail oh! |
Na Yanni and Enya fit do the magic oh! Plus I fantasize about how I'm going to bang my future husband, simple! |
Thank you pearl for your observations. Let me start with the age, you're right about how northern education is. To be honest, when I started, I didn't put that into consideration and when I later realised it, I couldn't do much as I had typed a couple of pages already. I was even going to change everything from names to age and location but I thought, in all the northern region, there has be a girl or boy who graduated at age fifteen right? I decided to paint Ayi as one of those rare northern girls who finished her school early. To the number of times she wrote and failed her SSCE, it was once only and this was shortly after her parents demise. Lastly, about the flashbacks and the present, my brother also made similar comment and I think you're both right, will do something about that. Thanks again, I really appreciate your comment and to the people saying something, a big THANK YOU to you all! |
18 MONTHS AGO They both waited in the sitting room in silence for her mother-in-law to be. “You and your brothers will be taking good care of ,” her Aunt reassured her even though she said nothing. Her Aunt’s fears were obvious, she can’t have her changing her mind all of a sudden when she had already collected gifts from the woman they were waiting for. Ayisat loved her still, she might have arranged her wedding without her permission but she knew it was for her own good and her brothers. She didn’t care much for herself, this is all for her brothers. What was there to care about herself anymore? Her parents were already died and she had failed her SSCE, all this two horrible years ago. Her Aunt tried for them really, especially after Rasak and Musa finished their junior secondary school, she had taken them under her care and been feeding them for the past two years. Only it was now difficult to continue with her own six children when her husband had turned into one of the useless drunks after he lost his job months ago. What was wrong with him? did he think drinking would magically multiply the small money her Aunt made for their up keeping? She never understood how some men think sometimes. A tall, slender, light skinned woman strolled into the room like she owned the house. In truth, she did. “I take it she is the girl you have been talking about?” She asked, no greetings or introductions. “Yes Hajia, this is Ayisat,” her Aunt replied. Ayisat need not be told before she realised who was in front of her, she knelt down and greeted the woman in their local dialect. “Take your seat,” she said, bearly sparing a glance before turning to her Aunt, “She looks well.” That put her Aunt at ease and was about to go into tales of how healthy her niece has always been when Hajia added. “But I’ve learnt looks can be deceiving and so, I would like her tested for series of possible illness.” Her Aunt nodded like she had just been questioned. “Of course! We will go to a _ _ _” The interruption was unexpected and so, surprised them both. “That is not necessary as I will take her to a hospital myself, I will be back in a minute or more so be ready,” she stated and walked off before any of them could protest of the timing. “Now let’s pray she finds nothing wrong with you.” But nothing was wrong with her, Ayisat was sure of this. PRESENT Ayisat froze on hearing her mother-in-law’s voice “I see, so you still find the appetite to eat uh?” the woman asked angrily. “G_ g good morning ma,” Ayisat stammered. Mrs Gimba ignored her and turned to her son instead. ”You let this good for nothing sit and dine with you when she hasn’t missed a period for six months?” Khalid was amused but hid it well, this is no situation to smile although it’s tempting. His mother talked as if she lived with them, he stood up and greeted her. "And you! What have given my son to eat? I swear I never believed in those things but with the way my Khalid has been behaving, I am convinced you’ve cooked him those eat your senses away fishes in your charmed vegetable soup.” Now he was nearly busting with laughter. “Mother? Can we go in and talk please before you beat up my wife for apparently giving me some funny fish cooked in a charmed vegetable soup.” His mother scowled at him and said to Ayisat.”I will be back for you.” She nodded stupidly like she had just been given an instruction and watched her mother-in-law stormed out of the dinning room, followed by her son after telling not to worry. But how could she not worry? Trouble was back and she was sure it came doubled, why today of all days? When she had been so happy earlier. Ayisat sighed, this woman would not let her rest until she conceive a child for her son. CHAPTER TWO 8 MONTHS AGO She listened to her and her stomach ached. “You are to give birth to as many child as your husband want, I only want five but it’s whatever Khalid wants. I think I have been more than generous to you and your family and the only thing I want in return is to be called a grandma soon.” Ayisat nodded. ”I will try my best ma.” The woman shook her head. “I don’t want your best, I want grandchildren from you.” Was she the one giving women babies? Who else would make a mother if not her husband with the help of Allah especially, why was this woman saying it like she could make a baby on her own? She forced the tears back and said. ”With Allah’s help ma.” PRESENT “Ah! I am doomed! What has that wretched thing done to you?!” Mrs Gimba cried. Khalid shrugged. “I thought you had already concluded she cooked me a powerful fish.” The woman scowled at him and shook her head in dismay. “The girl I spent a fortune on and her unfortunate family! And what do I get in return? Nothing! Not even a baby for poor old me and to worsen the situation, she has turned my son a fool who no longer can think! Tell me? do you now wash her undies also?” Now he couldn’t help the laughter, it seemed to him that all mothers are the same. When he saw the look his mother was giving him, he stopped laughing. “Nothing like that is happening and don’t worry mom, the doctor assured me that it is not permanent.” “Oh please! What do you think he’ll say? Why didn’t you tell me before? How could you keep such a big problem to yourself?!” He sighed.” What different would it make?” She snapped. ”A lot! I would have ask one of those busybodies coming to my shop every day, for help! There is this particular man one of them talked about, I would have gone to him had you tell me sooner!” He pretended to be serious. “I don’t think it’s too late.” “Oh, I am going alright! That girl is a demon and whatever curse she laid on you must be averted, that witch does not wish to bear you children. I think the man’s name is Malim Al-amir, I have to pay him a visit right away.” Khalid’s heart skipped a beat on hearing the word curse, he was tempted on telling her but held back, that would do no good. He suddenly realised his mother just mentioned a priest’s name and immediately blamed himself for leading her to believe he was serious, he wanted his mother’s attention away from Ayisat. “I think you should think this through Mother. Ayisat has nothing to gain by cursing me, you are sponsoring her two brother’s education remember? Why would she do a thing that an drive her out of my life? If you ask me, I think Khodijat has more reason to curse me because of how we parted, that makes more sense.” Her countenance changed, she knew he was right but wouldn’t admit it. “I am still going anyways, I have to be sure.” She stated firmly. “Alright but please, just ask for what can be done only.” She nodded in reluctance and there was silence after, both wrapped up in their thoughts. For Khalid, he was worried his mother might discovered the truth and blame poor Ayi instead. If the clergyman is indeed a true seer, he might see everything and tell his mother. Knowing his mother that well, she would put the blame on his wife even if told otherwise. He had to do something to prevent the truth from getting to his mother and protect Ayisat. For his mother, she was full of regrets, things had not turn out the way she envisioned at all. She should be expecting a bouncing grandbaby by now! It has been six months for Allah’s sake and now she was just told he had a little problem with impregnanting a girl! What did he call it? Temporary low sperm count? She no longer trust those doctors, had they not tell her not to worry when her husband was on the sickbay yet he later died and this girl? That stupid doctor had assured her nothing was wrong with her yet six months nothing! She had to be the one something was wrong with and not her Khalid, she will visit the popular priest soon. Khalid finally ended the silence. ” Will you have breakfast with us? Ayi prepared a wonderful meal, stay and eat with us before you leave Mother.” She hissed. ”I am not tasting that witch’s food ever!” “Not again, after all I’ve just told you?” “Listen to me ok, be watchful of that thing! I still don’t trust her and great Allah! Months! I need to get you herbs, it shouldn’t take that long to work.” He shrugged, with no intention of taking anything but to avoid any further argument, he later nodded and said. “That is fine by me.” |
I would write my name with my urine! I have always wanted to do that! |

CHAPTER ONE Whisper? She was sure she’d just hear someone whispered, who else could it be if not him. She opened her eyes slowly and saw him smiling. How did he always do that? How did he manage to chipped two decades off from his real age with that smile? she doubt she would ever know. “Good morning Mrs Gimba” he said again , this time more clearer than before. Ayisat smiled back at him and she did this genially, not like the kind she’d been forcing months ago. She sat up and just as she did, they both became aware of the bloodstains on the bed sheet. There passed an awkward moment between them with both immersed in different thoughts. To say Ayisat was embarrassed is an understatement, she looked everywherelse but his face. Khalid rubbed his palm on his head and thought of what to say, the silence wasn’t helping and he searched for what to say desperately. Finally, he thought of asking ,”how do you feel?" She looked at him and smiled."I feel like your wife," she said. That warmed his heart more than he could ever imagine and this made him reach for her to kiss her, he felt glad when she kissed him back. "I, all of a sudden, feel hungry." he mouthed, still kissing her. She cut the kiss immediately and he regretted saying that, she obviously didn’t get what he meant. “What do you feel like taking?’’ You, he wanted to say but he said instead, ”anything that isn’t too stressful for you to prepare.’’ She nodded and watched him stood up, her eyes fell on his naked behind and this turned her stomach in an unfamiliar but pleasant manner. Was this how she would always feel now? Surely there would now be more of what happened last night after months of abstinence from her. Why was she feeling embarrassed now? She saw him naked last night , didn’t she? She couldn’t remember. That part seemed irrelevant, the rest of what happened she did remember quite alright, that brought a smile to her face. By the time she looked up, he had put on his trousers from last night. “I will get down and prepare breakfast right away," she said. ‘’Take your time,’’ he said and pecked her forehead before walking into the bathroom. Ayisat was more than glad he left her alone, she didn’t want him seeing her naked, not this time when she’s not blinded with passion. She stood up and packed the sheets, for a while she stared at “Finally, I did it!” she had shouted before realising he was still near, thank Allah the water was already running. She had found a treasure and as insane as it may sound, she wasn’t going to wash the stains, she would cut the stained part out and keep it. The blood that flowed out of her, not because of her monthly flow or an injury, but because her closed door had been opened in a sacred way. ………………………………………………,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 42 MONTHS AGO “Mother no! please don’t leave us in this world alone, please!” she screamed. But she couldn’t hear her, she was far gone to a place where not even the loudest of shouts could reach her. Tears flowed freely to her daughter’s cheeks and she covered her mouth with her two hands as the doctor covered her mother up. Her two brothers ran to her and hugged her firmly, they were also crying. “She is gone! Mother has left us just like he did, now we’re all alone.” She said. PRESENT He sat down on the chair and opened his food, the aroma assaulted his nose almost immediately. "Hmmm, you never disappoint my dear," he said, chewing the bite he'd taken. She smiled back but said nothing. Silence crawled in, bringing the awkward moment of earlier. Now, how do people handle this type of situation? Well, a lot of people wouldn’t be in this situation at all! Deflowering your wife is one thing but deflowering a wife you are 2 decades older than, six months after your wedding is another! Khalid had guessed she was still new like a pair of socks in its nylon but the thoughts of been her first sent pride rushing him and at the same time making him embarrassed. He had never deflowered a girl before her. He had earlier wished to repeat their act of yester night but decided against it as she was oblivious of his advances and again, she must be sore. It would be terrible of him to ask that of her. “Is something wrong with the food now?” he heard her asked and looked up to see her worried expression “No, it’s perfect,” he replied and continued to eat to put her mind at ease, “results will be out soon, in a couple of months now,” he added. She smiled unconvincingly. “You shouldn’t worry yourself, I have all faith in you and confident you’ve passed already.” Ayisat was going to laugh when her worst nightmare burst in without knocking. |
I don't know what's wrong with we ladies, he likes but can't leave that one to be with you? He should break up with the girl and then date you, she derserves better than a spineless coward and an emotional cheat. |
So here I am, my first story ever to be shared and read by anyone other than me and my brothers. First of, I want to say that I'm like every writer you've met here(well, almost!), I am a girl.....obviously, I am a science student( not using that as an excuse for any mistake you may encounter) and this is a love story(sort of). I welcome any of your corrections, comments and criticisms(I don arrange enough tissue paper to last a life time) so feel free to drop anything. I will try and update regularly as long as there are little to no bad unforseen occurences(so help me God). Let's begin! |
As a Virgin or an experienced lady? |

BornAgainMay:The reasonl is acceptable if she and the man agreed on an open relationship, if not, she's a disgrace |
BornAgainMay:Do the needful then, not because I believe you deserve the kid but because the poor man deserve to be rid of such lady |
You didn't want to destroy someone's marriage or you were not to ready shoulder your responsibility? Rubbish! Just know you were a sperm donor! |
Let's begin |
The irony is, the feotus killers get the best husbands. The other time, a lady who aborted 17 babies went online showing her sucess, I was like "are you freaking kidding me?!" She literally killed 17 souls! And some said not to judge them, that the past is the past! Bullshit! |
This promises to be fun, I'm definitely reading this.Thank you for starting this, God knows I need a good read. Please, don't starve us with updates |
Michellla:May the good God bless you, I so much hate the sentence "he'll change for me". Na Buhari made your V? |
I will definitely ask, it's better to walk out of a relationship than marriage |
Another BS, a couple of muslims did that and now, all muslims are to share the blame. If you as a christian decides to fast on every Ramadan, does that give me prove and rights to accuse every christian of doing the same? |
putit:You mean girls? |
