Peter Obi’s Viral Speech: A Case Of Hypocrisy And Political Pandering By Churchill Okonkwo

BY CHURCHILL OKONKWOOCT 05, 2016

Political hypocrisy in Nigeria is so pervasive that it calls to mind the 1664 classic play Tartuffe which is centered on a hypocritical priest who, after giving great speeches of piety and self-sacrifice, is found to be stealing his benefactor’s fortune and trying to seduce his benefactor’s wife. Such political hypocrisy could be seen in Ayo Fayose (making empty noise against Buhari’ anticorruption crusade even when he pocketed billions through corrupt means); our President (preaching anticorruption but failing woefully to rein in on his corrupt aides); Ben Bruce (the commonsense crusader without commonsense) and now Peter Obi (the saint that sinned). They are all stealing our fortunes while camouflaging as the voice of the poor masses. This piece is on Peter Obi - an archetypical case of hypocrisy and his recent political pandering.

I strongly believe that in politics when someone calls someone else a hypocrite, he will have to provide a flaw between public assertion and equally public practice. Peter Obi’s hypocrisy summarized here therefore, involves the outward expression of a virtue concurrently with the practice of a correlative vice.

Peter Obi’s recent hypocritical talk that went viral paints a picture of an actor who portrays one persona for an audience, which clearly differs from his behavior when he wines and dines with his new political friends in Anambra State that include the likes of Andy Ubah and Stella Oduah. Stella Oduah bought bullet proof cars worth billions. Peter eulogized her as a model for Ndigbo. A man that championed Stella Oduah only to turn around and lecture us about wastefulness in the purchase of colorful cars by public office holders is a hypocrite. Full Stop. I need not talk about the conflicting ethical questions relating to his disturbing “love affair” with Andy Ubah.

Peter Obi is a hypocrite! A man that campaigned for the reelection of the most careless and the most dangerously corrupt government in the history of Nigeria is deceiving the gullible. We had a National Security Adviser that turned himself into a Father Christmas, but instead of giving the kids, he gave the fire-breathing monsters that plundered the national wealth. The same monsters Peter Obi vigorously campaigned to re-elect in 2015. Peter’s hypocrisy thus reminds me of politicians who according to Adlai Stevenson would cut down a redwood tree, then mount the stump and make a speech for conservation.

Peter is a Political panderer! How I wish Peter taught Oga Jona his wonderful epistle on fiscal conservatism. I wish Peter had given this wonderful speech against corruption and wastefulness as a former Deputy Director General of the Goodluck Jonathan presidential campaign organization. I wish he had talked about the need to scrap the office of the first lady in the face of Dame Patience in one of those their political campaign tours.

Here is a man who supervised the dissemination of finances across southeast and south-south to the extent of bribing resident electoral commissioners preaching about corruption. A man that supervised the bullying and financial inducement of the electorate and INEC officials during the 2015 presidential election has no moral authority to preach anti-corruption to Nigerians. Period!

Where was Peter when his colleagues in the Governors Forum insisted that we must squander every Kobo in the National Treasury? I wonder what the panderer Peter told his colleagues in Southeast that grew the size of their stomachs and pockets while Enugu-Onitsha expressway turned to gully erosion site.

Talking about spending for growth; the people of Anambra State has not forgotten how saint-emperor Peter made caricature of governance during his second tenure by “dashing” millions of Naira to amorphous groups while displaying bigger than life cheques. Please, go and listen again to Emperor Peter in the viral epistle. All you will hear is “I”, “I...” “I...” never “we”, never “my administration”, never “my commissioner”. No, he was the alpha and omega with all the state and local government federal allocations at his pleasure and mercy. Eh m, what is corruption again? Is that the standard of democracy and transparency we should be promoting?

Peter was a dictator that ruled Anambra State for 8 good years, without transforming or reforming a single government agency or ministry in the state. Worst still no single interest or investment to develop human capital in the state. An embodiment of selfishness?

I hope by now you agree with me that Peter Obi’s recent pandering is a classical definition of hypocrisy and political pandering. Tattered and battered by his prolonged battle with Victor Umeh and his estranged godson Obiano (after betraying APGA), he is now seeking redemption by riding under the economic downturn in the country to pander. So, don't let him deceive you that he is championing your cause. He is only repositioning himself.

Don’t get me wrong, I am against corruption and reckless spending. Campaign for fiscal conservatism with regards to lower levels of public spending is not however new in Nigeria. Many consistent political commentators and Editorial Boards of many national dallies have been advocating for that from Obasanjo’s era, through Yar’Adua, Jonathan and now Buhari. What is new is that the political jingoism in Nigeria has been so super-hyped that Nigerians who still believe the goat and the yam belong to the barn are swept off their feet by frivolities.

In 1st Thessalonians Chapter 5 verse 22, the apostle Paul gave some very a good advice to the Thessalonians on how to avoid becoming hypocrites, "Abstain from all appearance of evil". For me to take Saint Peter Obi serious, he MUST abstain from whatever is wrong starting with disassociating himself from the likes of Dame Patience, Stella Oduah and Andy Ubah.

But, why do voters give hypocrites a pass? Why do fans of Buhari fail to point at his hypocrisy when he is saying one thing on corruption and doing another on acts of corruption under his watch? Why are Fayose’s fans eulogizing his ‘purity’, yet, conscious of his corrupt acts? Why are some Nigerians eulogizing the fraudulent pretense in Peter Obi’s “saying” element at the same time ignoring the “doing” element of hypocrisy in his behavior? Why are we not coming up with the same conclusion that is straightforward? – these politicians are hypocrites.

If you have been clapping to the pandering of a hypocrite Peter Obi, pretending he said what you don’t already know or have never heard in your political life, then my advice to go look in the mirror. Are you all hypocrites? Yes. Please help Nigeria make the number one less.

PoliticsRe: Ten Important Things Peter Obi Did Not Tell Us On The Platform — Emeka Odionu by ascendo(m): 11:09am On Oct 05, 2016

UzuegbuProsper:
TEN IMPORTANT THINGS PETER OBI DID NOT TELL US ON THE PLATFORM — Emeka Odionu

On the platform at The Covenant Place, Iganmu Lagos; the former governor of Anambra state, as one of the invited guests spoke on a number of issues which are trending in the media.

It was not an interactive session, so there was no opportunity to ask him questions hence the uninformed in Anambra politics “ga ekwe nke Pita kwulu”.

I've been getting calls and inbox messages from Nigerians at home and in diaspora as regards Obi's speech on the "platform" and I've done my best to explain to them "as onye no mgbe ife melu the true situation of things" but on a second thought decided to explain certain things online, not as a media aide to anybody but as "ezigbote onye Anambra"

1. Peter OBI told us that he kept N75b for his successor but he didn't tell us that part of the money he claimed he kept was a N9b NIPP money given to Anambra state by Obasanjo in which Anambra state made no financial contributions neither did he tell us that Anambra states Equity shares of N750m from Emenite Roofing Industry (a Michael Okpalla investment) which was shared to all Eastern states in the early 90's was part of his N75b

He also forgot to tell us that N1b agricultural loan given to farmers in Anambra state by the federal government is in his N75b handover note.

2. Peter OBI told us that he kept N75b for his successor but he did not tell us that he awarded a contract of N184b in his
last year in office, paid N78b and bequeathed a debt of N106b to his successor.

3. Peter Obi asked governors to scrap the office of First Lady to save cost but did not tell us that his wife operated the office of First Lady with all the paraphernalia. In what capacity did Magarete Obi tour 177 communities in Anambra state thrice?

Was the office of First Lady built after Obi's tenure?

4. Peter OBI told us that he kept N75b for his successor but did not tell us that he inherited N11.2b from his predecessor, Dr. Chris Ngige.

He avoided telling us that the Federal Government roads in Anambra state constructed by Dr Ngige valued at about N30b was re-imbursed to him.

5. Peter OBI did not tell us that he killed the third tier of government in Anambra state by not conducting Local Government election for eight years he governed until two months to handover.

6. Peter Obi, speaking on “the platform” did not tell us that he employed more than 5000 civil servants two months to handover which he never did in his eight years rule.

7. Obi admonished incumbent governors to stop drinking champagne in government house to save cost but didn't tell us that the day Gov Obiano won, bottles of champagne were brought out from government house and shared to jubilants.

8. Obi told us he never slept in a hotel where a room was N250,000 a night to save cost but he didn't tell us how his aide was apprehended moving our security vote of N250m by road to Lagos.

9. Peter Obi admonished youths to go into politics to be influential and ask their leaders questions but the youths of his senatorial zone are being shortchanged and employment eludes them because of PDP's lingering court case sponsored by Obi.

Obi did not tell us that he was the one frustrating his senatorial zone from having a senator when he was speaking on “the platform”

10. On “the platform”, Obi spoke on “cutting cost of governance” but did not tell us if sharing N40b to his friends and cronies on what he termed “Final Push” two months to handover was one of the ways to save cost of governance.

Pastor Poju Oyemade is doing well on his programme called “The Platform” but he should to add to the programme an opportunity to ask questions to debunk hypocrisy.
You need to shut up as you know nothing. Stop fighting the truth!

Educate yourself "Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. 2 And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him.

4 Therefore concerning the eating of things offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one. 5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords), 6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.

7 However, there is not in everyone that knowledge; for some, with consciousness of the idol, until now eat it as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8 But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse.

9 But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols? 11 And because of your knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 12 But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble."1 Cor. 8

Please can I have their contacts? I need pigging system asap
Abagworo:
An indigenous firm,
B.G Technical Limited, has opened the first Pipeline,
Pigs and Accessories Factory in West Africa.
The factory is expected to conserve and generate
foreign exchange for Nigeria especially at this period of
meagre oil revenue, as it would help provide quality
products for the maintenance of pipelines so as to
prolong life span and reduce cases of pipeline rupture
as well as leakages.
With the factory commissioned, it will bring an end to
the importation of pipeline pigging products, boost
availability of quality products and help preserve
foreign exchange earnings for both operators and the
federal government.
The commissioning of the factory in Owerri, Imo State
was performed by the Acting Executive Secretary of
Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board
(NCDMB) who was represented by Tunde Adelana.
Adelana who is the Director, Monitoring and
Evaluation at NCDMB, said the opening of the multi-
billion Naira pipeline, pigs and accessories factory for
the production of quality pigging pipeline products is
yet another evidence and validation that the efforts of
the board is paying off in real terms in the oil and gas
industry.
He described the event as another attestation to the fact
that Nigerians can develop the required industry
capability once the enabling environment is in place
and assured that the board will continue to support
B.G Technical and other local companies in their efforts
at acquiring additional capacities.
“The opening of the factory is indeed worthy of
celebration. Looking back at the years of pre-NOGICD
Act, investors like B.G Technical would probably not be
able to compete in the area of pigging services due to
the preponderance of foreign goods and services,” he said.

Virtually every mechanic recommends the use of 20w50 esp Mobil XHP.

This is despite the recommended 5W30/5w20 for most millennium cars (toyotas).

They say the reason is that once the mileage is above 100,000 it is better to use the heavier 20W50.

Please is this true?

What oil should be used in a 1999 toyota camry with 120k,2006 toyota sienna with 100k and 2006 toyota corolla with 90k miles.

For Cars from 2010 upwards: I recommend CASTROL EDGE, 5W40 or 10W40
For Cars from 2004 to 2009 or Mileage above 100,000kms: Use CASTROL MAGNATEC 10W40
For Cars earlier that 2003: use CASTROL GTX 20W50, or cars up to 150,000 mileage.

The reason why i recommend CASTROL Brand is because Castrol Engine oil has that sludge fighting ability as its the recommended oil for most of the PREMIUM CARS and SUV in use today>be it JAGUAR, BMW, LANDROVER, RANGE ROVER, MINI, AUDI...

CASTROL is not that cheap but very affordable compared to other Global brands.

ETERNA PLC is the sole LICENSEE of CASTROL in Nigeria.

CASTROL is not just oil, its FLUID ENGINEERING

You made the first mistake when you allowed him to hold your hand thinking that it's maturity. Now it's not as simple as it should be but keep your stand next time and let him know that you'll never succumb no matter the cost. Tell him that you know you made the mistake of allowing him hold your hand but this one is NEVER. But as for the slapping; don't! Getting an evidence: voice recording, video, is cool as well but your character/attitude must change to reflect your stand. I heard about "cup size", fitting dresses: and you don't know what's bringing all diz? Guys will always move with the assumption that your dressing is beckoning on them: so moderate your dressing. No fitting, cover up, let everytin about you speak decency and reserved!

Remember: your giving in to him will make matters bad as other employees will see you as a slut and start handling you that way. You'll be frustrated to the point of resignation.
