All we do is just party hard and turn every darn place to a freaking church... Heck, even most African shops where they sell African foodstuffs are owned by the Asians - that's pretty much how useless we're... Screaming on the darn phone on buses and talking loud on the streets = Nigerians... undecided undecided

kettykings: There are Asaba , Enugu, Akwa Ibom , calabar ,PH , Owerri international Airports.
There Ibaka deep sea ports , Bayelsa Deep sea ports and the dredging of the calabar sea port in Progress,

Numerous numbers of IPP is Aba, Afam , Ugheli e.t.c

Akwai ibom and enugu is leading the way in infrastructural projects while Aba and Anambra are in an investment overdrive mode with Malting , brewing , canning, projects underway.

Then there is flow back of people from the North who are definitely going to either invest or become part of the work force for the new economic boom

What the Region needs is an urgent opening up of the dormant maritime sector, which would in turn lead to creation of wealth in import/export businesses, ship building and dockyard projects, fisheries and sea food businesses and founding of new maritime intensive businesses like sugar refineries , rice importation and bagging and flour mill businesses
i would believe all these when they come to fruition esp the so called ones under construction.moreover the so called onitsha river port is still dormant.

baynix: Shettima Monguno’s Kidnappers Establish Contact, Make Demands; None Could Speak Hausa Or Kanuri

Kidnappers of Nigeria’s first Minister for petroleum, Dr Shettima Monguno has established contact with his family, a close family source disclosed to News Bytes.

The abductors were however noticed to have South-Eastern Igbo accent, while they communicated with mixes of pidgin English.

The source said none of them could speak in Kanuri or Hausa Language when they spoke with the representative of the Mongunos.

The source also revealed that they are demanding for the release of Boko Haram members in custody.

Monguno was kidnapped at the Mafoni Jumat Mosque after prayer Friday afternoon at about 2pm.

More as events unfold…

kettykings: With the coming in on stream of 3 Deep sea Port in the Niger Delta , the estabishment of 5 international Airpotrs within that region the relocation of the multibillion dollar LNG and very soon the Oil Multi Nationals , the redirection of the Diaspora igbo investments and investments from Niger Deltans back to the Zone and the emigration of igbos and Niger deltans from the North back to the zone , the building of world class infrastructures and the stabilization of electricity within that zone, their is a gradual economic paradigm shift back to where it rightly belongs
i do not see how and where all these are happening though.

aasog1: Illiterate and unexposed journalists who break my heart. Alderman is a title in London, they aren't even elected but appointed by council men or by an exiting alderman.
Mr. Gifford is the lord mayor of London, which is totally different from the position of Mayor of London. Adeyeye and Gifford only represent a tiny fraction of Nigerians in London. Anyways, I don't dispute the 1 million figure. Kudos to the Yoruba people who constitute incredible bulk of those people over there. Its sad though, by the time Nigeria is fixed, all your treasured family lands would be gone and totally sold or taken by Fashola and those arrogant APC political sharks! Don't even know if I am the only bloke who believe England is only good for retirement and not hustling? Can't even vacation in that place. Anyways, Ajah 4 life!
Those nigerians(yoruba peope)you are talking about might not be interested in coming back to their ancestral land hence might not really care what happens in those lands.

ZUBY77: Afam relax.
If we begin to divide based on every small tribe, then you may be surprised that some Anambra people like chino will say you from Amechi in Enugu is not Igbo. Itshekiri is not in Katsina or Kano. It is down here in Biafra republic. If you pay a little attention, you will understand their language just like that of Abiriba.
Some dialects from Ebonyi state are more difficult for you to understand than itshekiri. We are expanding daily. Even some parts of edo state speak igbo

PoliticsRe: Why Okorocha Was Not Treated In Govt Hospital by asha80(m): 12:21pm On Apr 30, 2013
Chillypelly: @Asha I remembered saying that there were plans to develop 8 mini cities outside owerri, orlu and okigwe (ahiara, okpala, akokwa, nwaorieubi, mgbidi, anara, mgbirichi and new owerri)which was an information i got directly from an aide of the governor. 7 of those cities were even pronounced moyoral districts with mayors appointed. My perception about this government changed after my easter break visit to Imo. Now listen clearly and quote me correctly, NO ROAD UNDER CONSTRUCTION BY THE GOVERNMENT OF OKOROCHA IS WITH DESIGN,TENDERS & BIDS except the dualization of the orlu township roads which only has a design. Even the inner ring road started by Ohakim with beautiful walkways, medians, streetlights and greens at the right of way has been abandoned by this son of the old religion. He must be replaced by any competent Imolite period.
good you cleared that out.as for competent person to replace the present governor pray that other parties in their primaries bring a competent person otherwise we would be stuck with the same brainless politicians like the ones i mentioned earlier.
PoliticsRe: Why Okorocha Was Not Treated In Govt Hospital by asha80(m): 11:35am On Apr 30, 2013
Chillypelly: Okorocha is gradually realising that the polity is no more anchored on freebies and photo shots with leprosy patients. Imolites are gradually recovering from the deceit he attempted to plunge the state into. With the news that he ordered the arrest on the man he nearly killed via accident, you can now see reasons why i call him the rutherless governor. Come 2015, we the progressives from the state will sweep him and his toilet cabnet out from Douglas house. Prehaps to continue his philantrophic gesture this time in a geniune way.
as you are planning to sweep him out make sure that ihedioha or uzodinma is not the replacement you have in mind.by the way you have still not explained the 'insane development going on 11 towns presently' comment you made on that '10 most developed states' thread.

Emperoh: I am not claiming to know much but here are a few things i think.

Most of us will sit behind our laptops and make assertions based on news we hear from our different contacts in Anambra or based on news we hear on TV and radio and newspaper propaganda and yet we can't think they are right. If i ask those making assumptions if they voted the in the last elections, the answer will most likely be NO. What that means is with all your internet power, your vote can never be a deciding factor in the power brokerage of Anambra State. You form approximately 30 percent of the middle-class voters in Anambra that are never counted.

An average middle class Anambrarian who has access to a laptop and internet thinks showing political intelligence is enough. yet the grassroot politicians will do their thing and win and we think it's rigging. The truth is this; Approximately 70 percent of voters in any election in Anambra state are rural dwellers who are not so given to the divisions we show here and may not really know their left from the right. In the end, it is their votes that decides who wins.

In our Anambra situation, we think Peter Obi has no Political back up but i tell you guys, he has done much much more than any person who has governed Anambra before. if anyone thinks he can come and sweep Anambra away from him; please think again.

let me give u a short analysis; With three senatorial zones in Anambra only Anambra North has not provided a governor in the history of the State. Now this is also the least developed area of the state. Let me assume Oseloka Obaze or Paul Odenigbo) runs for APGA(AN North), Chris Ngige for ACN (AN Central), Charles Soludo for PDP (AN South) who do you think will have the block of votes?

Obaze will win. Reason, he has the power of incumbency backing him, he will have the An North vote en block, AN central and AN South votes will be fragmented and he will definitely get at lease 30 percent in AN South and another 40 - 50 percent in AN central: reason, Obi is the first and only governor to have made a developmental milestone in Anambra North, giving it access roads and other amenities, gave its indigenes a say in Anambra governance and also ensured their indigene is running. AN Central will have at least half of the votes since Obi is from here and let me also assume that with his influence, he could get the votes of An South. With this alone, the result is decided!

Another factor is; majority of the voters being rural dwellers will definitely move the side that have had the best impact on them; whether it's with the momentary sharing of political gifts or through infrastructure development. This is why the grass root politician will always carry the day anywhere. Check the records; they have the foot soldiers, they have access to rural dwellers who they are closer to and also whose votes are the main determinants on who win.

Hence, it will be totally wrong to sit behind a laptop and permute on what you think without being on ground. from a little research i carried out, the rural voter, old woman/man in the village will stay in the sun to vote and controls the highest number of block votes. If you think Peter Obi has no influence in the power distribution in Anambra as it is now, i pity you. His impact on the lives of rural dwellers will and is a major decider for him.

Please go into the villages and check for facts. I just did and what i saw was a shock to me.
you understand anambra politics and voting patterns wella.ignore the rural populace at your own peril.

ACM10: Halt in infrastructural development in the 3 nerve centers of Anambra is like driving a poisoned dagger through our heart.
do not get me wrong but an administration in anambra sooner or later would have to do that.all infrastructure in the state should not be concetrated in those 3 areas.anambra is the second most densely populated state in the country behind lagos so it would be a diseaster to focus infrastructure in only those 3 places.now that this administration is winding down the next administration can now focus her whole energy on those 3 areas without bothering much about the rural areas as they have gotten much attention from the present administration.

We need someone of his kind to halt the present decline in infrastructural development in Anambra, then place us on the path of progress. I will go with the "tried, tested and trusted". He can't remain wasted in the senate. He can't!
more like halt in infrastructural development in urban centers of onitsha, nnewi and awka and not rural areas.

Nuzo':
What

Hope you are good Asha, been long.

There's nothing wrong in copying the developmental styles of the Europeans. The problem is that we tend to copy the easy part and forget about the hard part.

The hard part is putting aside personal or family interest and working together for a greater good of the entire community.

The other hard part is avoiding being punished for crimes either by the perpetrator or his allies.

Why is it that most Africans live crime free in the so-called European communities?

The Asians tigers are fast developing not because they getting or remodelling the European education or standard. They have copied everything varbatum.

Until we begin to understand that no kind of education is a waste but our attitudes to life....we may never develop pass this our current sorry state.
bros i dey good.yes i believe the aspect of copying the easy part and living out the hard parts especially that aspect believing in the greater good of society when it clashes with what the family wants.to be honest i am not sure how we are going to overcome that.as for punishement for crimes (especially executive crimes or white collar crime)we have not started.as for education correct me if i am wrong but i have always felt that the eucation in asian tiger countries is tailored towards production or being productive?
PoliticsRe: What Is Your Definition Of Development? by asha80(m): 11:27am On Apr 28, 2013
Afam4eva: The government is building more white elephant infrastructure and investing very little on the citizens. A look at the amount allocated to education in budget in relation to other sectors for education will speak volume.

A hundred years ago, most westerners were not poor but those were the days of developing themselves and the result is what we see today.

i think this is because we have failed to use what is natural to us to develop ourselves instead we try to copy europians that build gigantic projects forgetting that the minds of the people over there are developed.even the so called education we are getting seems not to be tailored towards our peculiar needs but a continuation of the colonial type education that was embarked on to find replacements for them when they(colonialists) where about leaving the country. Also i believe that the developmental patterns of different regions in this country cannot be the same since we socialized in different ways.
