Bende LG workers protest non-payment of five months’ salary On September 27, 2012 · In News 9:27 pm 0 Umuahia – NO fewer than 300 workers of Bende Local Government Area in Abia yesterday marched to Government House in Umuahia to protest the non-payment of their five months’ salary arrears. Mr Gabriel Ukpai, one of the leaders of the peaceful protest, said that the aim was to bring their plight to the attention of state government. “The last time we were paid was in April and this is September; yet there is no sign that we will be paid,” Ukpai said. Ukpai alleged that the council workers’ problem started when an official of the transition committee returned N3.5 million to the state government shortly after his appointment. He described as false, claims by the official that the money was saved from the council’s allocation following the elimination of ghost workers from the council’s payroll. Ukpai alleged that the returned money was part of workers’ check-off dues and welfare levies. He said that the negative impact of the refund was the noticeable shortfall in the monthly allocations to the council. According to him, Bende Local Government currently receives about N15 million as monthly statutory allocations against the earlier N45 million monthly. Ukpai also said that the “refusal” of the local government to pay the workers had nothing to do with the newly introduced biometric data system for payment of salaries. Some others workers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, also called on the state government to intervene in the matter. Chief Ike Onyenweaku, state Commissioner for Agriculture, who received the protesting workers on behalf of the governor, promised that government would intervene in the matter. He advised them to go back to their duty posts and promised that the state government would look into their grievances. The Chairman of the affected local government, who came to the Government House shortly after the protest, declined to comment on the issues. solomonkane: What about dedeike's father: Rep. Ferdinand Ike representing Isiala-Ngwa North/South Federal Constituency?i heard the guy is a person ![]() |
ekt_bear: Foolish and useless mandanm that was harsh now ![]() |
seriously though i can bet my life that there would be a monumental crises in the country before the next 10 years. |
kenis: Again!! While are they always cutting the South East off in these rail project. While can't we have Lagos - Onisha(Enugu,Aba or Imo)? The second rail line is Lagos – Benin with anot that i am confident in the whole project anyway. |
Katsumoto: I doubt that many want it to get to that. I also doubt that many wanted Yugoslavia to break apart in the manner that it did but the signs were ignored.fixed ![]() |
poster do you know you are a cretin? |
Aigbofa: Katz, I hope it doesn't come to that, but I do agree with you that the biggest enemies of Nigeria are people who are pretending for whatever reasons that everything is fine with Nigeria.ermm they benefitting from nigeria as it is presently being structured now abi you no know ![]() naija for life |
Crayola1: I'm ignorant so dear professor explain it to meforget as i thought i was arguing with someone who knows nigeria well. |
Crayola1: Yes I gladly will remain ignorant because at the end of the day, you get to suffer I don'ti guess you know me to know that i am suffering through the net ![]() and to think i was wasting my time with someone that does not understand nigeria ![]() |
Crayola1: Its not insult its tough love dearplease answer the concurrent and exclusive lists questions as it seems that is the bone of contention to your understanding about this issue.nigeria and usa are not practicing the same type of federalism(ie if your call nigeria a federal state) |
Crayola1: Because you are the problem, see how you have yet to cough out any solution but quick to list problems.i have listed solutions only that you did not care to read and assimilate well because maybe you do not understand nigeria that much.as for the handout crew statement i laugh at your ignorance. again if you do not understand what exclusive and concurrent lists is all about or how it came about and the move to upturn it then you know zilch about nigeria. |
Crayola1: Is your brain congested? Did it ever occur to you that proper city planning is how cities like NYC contend with this issue. Is Lagos not congested, but your head stays suffering to get your leg there. Are you that assbackwards that you dont see the glaring double standards in your post?aghh some much insults .look if you are talking about opening other areas fine but there are some needed infrastructure only fg on the current system can only provide to drive the needed economic gains otherwise it might not change much.of course lagos in congested hence the hues and cry about go slows in the city depsite the apparent city planning. what i am saying is simple if those critical infrastructures is not provided in other areas it would not stop the traffic towards lagos and abuja have you wondered if usa is like nigeria and critical infrastructure which unfortunatly fg controls is found only in new york and washington what these places would have been like despite any planning? again you have not answered my question about concurrent and exclusive lists? |
Katsumoto: My post was not to elaborate on the genesis or aims of Boko Haram. It was mainly highlighting the vulnerability of the argument that the constitution affords supreme protection to all Nigerians in every part of Nigeria regardless of where they are from.then the question is who will bell the cat ![]() |
abians really have to show seriousness about what is happening there ![]() |
Crayola1: Isn't that my point or are you being dense for fun?na wah with insult.how really organised is the lagos?how do i exemplify ezeagu's point?is he not about the igbo middle class seeming reluctance to come back and invest because of infrastuctural deficit? |
The one city that could give Lagos and even PH a run for its money is Onitcha-Nnewi, but it remains neglected and in disrepair. Everything for a booming economic and manufacturing hub are there so what is the excuse?did not see this.well onitsha if you do not know is probably one of the most congested places you can think of.i am even afraid because with the commissioning of that river port and dredging and some factories that opened up there recently it is going to be excruciating in that axis.nnewi actually developed on it s own with out any government help.also if you must know onitsha has become so congested that other adjoining towns like oba, nkpor, okpoko etc population is increasing rapidly.the spillover is also affecting asaba on the other axis as 8/10 buyers of land there are onitsha business men. |
Crayola1: Even if you dont care does that still prevent you from investing in your own?did you see me hyperventilating?in case you do not know the onitsha, owerri and aba you are calling here are highly conjested areas.if you are talking about opening other areas fine. |
Crayola1: In a normal society we wouldn't even be having this discussion but these are the facts on the ground.thankgod you said in a normal society as there is nothing normal about nigeria.again aside from lagos and presenly abuja i would love to know any other state where the same investment is being made.investing in your people only guarantees jack.ekiti is regarded as a state that has the highest proffesors in the whole country but still economic activites that drives development is near zero there. |
Crayola1: This is what you are fight for? The exclusive privilage to be insulted Asha80not really bothered by their rants as they are the ones always shouting true federalsim and restructuring of nigeria.onye ji m n'ala ji kwa onwe ya n'ala. |
Crayola1: My point straight from another Igbo persons mouth.have you asked what drove them to those places in the first instant?it is exactly why those same infrastructure has to be replicated everywhere so that those places mentioned would stop making noise about congestions.yes it might take time even if these infrastructures are put on the ground because they have become used to other places but still it has to be done and sadly these infrastructureas are largely fg controlled hence the call for the resruring of the country.funnily enough the people are the forefront of the call are not even necessarily from the east. again this is also about what is about the happen in abuja as already happen to lagos.i also wonder why are ignoring other groups that are also aiding to populate these places and focusing on igbo. |
Crayola1: Why do you have to wait until x to do something? If you care that much you will start investing today since various options exist. There are ports in the SS as well as airports, what is the hold up?okay let me give an eg.the river port in onitsha was just completed recently by fg.let us say that maybe anambra decided to build the onitsha port how would barges berth there if the river niger is not dredged?or is anambra going to dredged the river all the way from lokoja to to atlantic ocean? as for the bolded i can now understand why you seem to not know the terrain or how things operate here. |
Crayola1: You said that all the development is targeted to select places while the rest suffer, so what will you do if Lagos is no more tomorrow since your state is legally bound to remain impoverished?you are yet to answer my question about concurrent and exclusive lists. whoever told you people are not existing or living well in other places outside lagos?this is about giving every section of the country equal opportunity/infrastructure to pursue it aspirations so that 'traffic' can be 'diverted' from lagos and abuja presently. |
Crayola1:do you know about concurrent and exclusive lists in the so called constitution? what do you mean by commiting suicide if lagos stops existing? |
Crayola1: So what is the solution then? I'm hearing a lot of what cant be done and not alot of what can be done. Are the only rights guaranteed under your constitution the right to be born, live, and die? Permanent victims of circumstance?again i reiterate there is a reason there is a strong clamour the restructuring of the country or snc or shouts about practicing federalism the way it is supposed to.again from the way you sound really dot know much about the way nigeria is structured am sorry to say. |
Crayola1: Borrowing money is out of the question?it seems you do not know naija well.borrow money?do you know most states are finding it difficult to pay 18000 min.wage becauae of expenses and and their debt profile(how do they even intend to pay back with low IG) and you are talking about more debt.please study about the strucure nigeria is running and try and find out why there is clamour for the restructuring of the nation. what we are practicing is not sustainable. |
Crayola1: Another excuse.man you are not making sense.the brigde connects delta state and anammbra state. again if you think you can just bulldoze there and repair the bridge or build the bridge in that axis then you know nothing about nigeria and how it is structured.you think the fg will sit down and allow you to do that?it might sound absurd but fg will stop you from repairing that brigde as far as it is under the fg.why didn't lagos repair 3rd mainland bridge even when it was clear it had issues as important as the brigde is and despite that is in lagos state until fg stepped in? |
Crayola1: So you will forever remain in neutral and beholden yourself to the whims of others?it is not about what you wrote above.it is about the reality on ground.there is a reason many people are only migrating to abuja, lagos and to a lesser extent portharcourt instead anywhere else in the country. can you tap into the resources in your state without approval from fg? |
Akanbi_edu: That Abuja will be in deep shi-t soon.it might be sooner that expected. |
bittyend: I hear about how great the Igbos are everyday on this forum. But don't you think it's high time you stopped getting mouthy and boastful; and get busy in Igboland? If Igboland were as great as what I see you folks post on here daily, I doubt the deportation of your kiths and kins would have affected you guys this much.you still do not get it do you?moreover if you think it is only igbos that in lagos i guess you are based there if not you will also know that abokis seems to have overtaken the igbos. |
