The Muslim Protest in Kano

The Ohaneze Ndigbo Kano State chapter has distanced themselves from what it termed a mischievious attempt by persons in Kano State to use the name of Ohaneze Ndigbo to achieve a criminal objective.

Today, September 22, 2012, a group of Muslims protested in Kano against the American film that depicted the Prophet Mohammed [SAW[ in a negative light.

The President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Kano State Chapter, Chief Tobias Idika in reacting to the protest rally held by Muslims in Kano over the film on Prophet Mohammed [SAW] told 247ureports.com- that a group of persons dressed in Ohaneze regalia joined the protest match [see picture above] carrying placards indicating that Ohaneze Ndigbo Kano had sent them on the match. The group held placards stating “Ohaneze Ndigbo na sopulu Mohammed“.

Chief Idika was quick to distance the kano state chapter from the actions of the group claiming be from Ohaneze. The Ohaneze Ndigbo Kano State chapter president made it clear that he was not aware of the said protest. “We have no part in this"

A large crowd of protesters took over Kano streets earlier today to protest the US made low budget film that portrayed Prophet Mohammed in a bad light.

The rally which began in the Fagge area of Kano was organized by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, a pro-Iran shite group.

The protesters sang anti-US and Isreali songs while marching through the city of Kano from a mosque in Fagge eventually ending the protest at the palace of the Emir Kano where they burnt the American flag before dispersing peacefully.

Heavily armed Nigerian troops kept a watchful eye on the protesters throughout the march.

Three killed in Ebute-Metta gang wars
Residents estimated that over ten youths have died in gang fights in the area since last year
Article | September 21, 2012 - 9:15am | By Patience Ogbo

Three persons have been allegedly killed at Ebute-Metta in the last two days by gang members fighting for supremacy.

The latest casualty was a student of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, identified as 'D1', Dayo Olaniyi.

Residents said the gang war in the area took a frightening dimension on Thursday, when a gang known as 'Otto boyz' went on rampage in reprisal for the alleged killing of some of their members.

Olaniyi, 26, was allegedly killed in retaliation for the gruesome killing of Akeem Omisore and Wasiu Alarape, on Wednesday.

"D1 belonged to a rival gang known as the Apapa Road Fagbayimu group. The two gangs have been at logger heads over the control of petty business parks, transport and traders unions at Ebute-Metta; the killing is a show of supremacy by the gangs," a resident who requested anonymity said.

It was gathered that the gang members, numbering about 30 and clad in T-shirts and Jeans, stormed Moshood Abiola Way along Apapa Road, shooting indiscriminately.

They were also said to have been wielding machetes and other dangerous weapons.

Olaniyi was reportedly shot to death at Iya Agan Street in the area, while gang members escaped before the arrival of the police.

The gang war has however, thrown the four communities at Ebute-Metta into a state of panic as residents have also been caught in the clash in the past.

Some residents are said to have fled their homes, but meanwhile, a combined team of anti-riot police officers have been drafted to the scene to quell the violence.

It was gathered that the police presence has brought some calm to the area, but residents claim that the relative peace may not last considering the repeated experiences they have had with the warring gangs.

Agbodimu Musbau, Chairman of the Otto-Ilogbo Slum-dwellers Association, Mainland chapter, said that the ceaseless attacks by the gangs have become unbearable for the residents.

"We all appeal to the authority to come to our aid as the gangs are regrouping to cause further mayhem. Now that the police is after them they will calm down but in a few months, they will come out to retaliate the killing of their members," he said, adding the violence had continued in spite of community efforts to quell the crisis.

"And when this battle of supremacy starts, it is the residents that usually count loses of various valuables as they will smash vehicles' wind screens, loot shops, houses and attack passersby and residents. Anybody they see will be dealt with mercilessly."

Musbau said the gangs agreed on a ceasefire last year, following a meeting involving leaders of the community, the various warring factions, and the police.

According to Musbau, the factions involved were Lion Junction, Fagbayimu Boys, Otto Scorpion Joint, Otumara and Ayewa Boys.

"We identified the problems and a ceasefire was agreed. The police warned the leaders to maintain peace but the boys have started again," he said.

"The community is appealing to the State Security Service (SSS), Police and other security agencies to arrest the perpetrators of this violence and restore permanent peace to our area."

ACM10: Majority of Owerri residents lives in old Owerri. It seems unplanned. I think they can do better. The traffic is something else. Moreover, tram and mono rail are too expensive for a government that is struggling to pay its workers. The options left are flyovers and expansion of roads. But, where are the spaces to accomodate these projects in old Owerri? Houses may have to be demolished to inorder to embark on such projects. And Rochas is well aware of its political consequence(s).
owerri is actually planned.it is just that it is getting over populated.you probably would not have said the same thing if you lived there in the eighties and ninties when go slow was rare in the town.

I think a railway system should be 'explored' for a place like Owerri.
I chose to use the word "explored" because I sabi say railway costs no be beans. wink
i actually think other parts of imo state should be developed to reducae the inlux of people into the owerri town.i do not know the government's plan on this?

PoliticsRe: Lawyers Protest Bad Roads In Aba by asha80(m): 1:15am On Sep 21, 2012
sleekcm: Let me just share this briefly. I took a bus from Aba to Lagos on Tuesday and there was a journalist who came on inspection/fact-finding mission to Abia State in that same bus. He made some mind-blowing revelations. I never knew the problem of Abia was that big. T.A Orji is a major reason why Abia is backwards but he isn't the only one. It was T.A who made Orji Uzor Kalu governor. He rigged him in - when he was Abia INEC chairman - or whatever they called it back then. It was T.A who introduced Orji Uzor Kalu to Okija Shrine things. T.A also taught Orji how to be mean. It's only natural that Orji Uzor Kalu had to show appreciation by rewarding him with Abia State for 4 years. Jonathan ensured he came back through massive rigging using the shameless traditional Ezes' in the state. Now, this journalist alleges that there is a list of about 150 prominent Nigerians that T.A Orji and his army of bandits pays monthly to keep quiet about what's happening in the state. Top on this list is no other than the first lady - Dame Patience Jonathan- who is paid an unbelievable #300million/month.

Abia State receives a monthly allocation of #6billion naira + IGR of #3billion but T.A and his government of touts shares it out among themselves and uses the rest to keep some people quiet. That's why it's almost impossible for him to undertake any meaningful capital project. Unless you count sharing Keke Napep among his party thugs!

Now this journalist also confirmed a story I've heard severally in Aba and swept it aside as a common rumour. T.A recently bought a ship but had some problems. He involved Orji Uzor Kalu to help secure the transaction by paying a LITTLE sum of #45billion into his account! Well Orji Uzor thanked his stars and banked the money! End of story! Money lost. No ship.

These are just some of the reasons why T.A Orji can never develop or construct the roads in Abia State. His government is a giant corruption circus, well backed by Jonathan and his wife.

These NBA Aba branch members were not just protesting against the state of roads in Aba but also against the arrest of a member who dared to write articles against the poor state of governance in the state. Trust T.A and his thugs, they quickly arrested him and accused him of trying to stir up the people against his government.

This journalist might have a very difficult task cos he appears alone in the fight to expose the decay in Abia State. His colleagues who came with him on this inspection were quickly bribed by T.A and awarded lucrative contracts to keep them shut. But he plans to involve the BBC and CNN to beam the story of Abia to the world s

Disputed Anambra oil well: ACF joins fray, backs Kogi

Posted on Thursday, September 20th, 2012

•Photo: Peter Obi, Anambra state Governor

By Baba Negedu, Reporter, Kaduna

Apex northern socio-cultural organization, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has thrown its weight behind Kogi state in its quest to wrest the disputed oil well from Anambra state.

This was the hand of fellowship extended to the state when Kogi indigenes under the aegis of Network of Kogi State Associations (NOKSA) yesterday stormed the headquarters of ACF in Kaduna to press home their legitimacy of the oil they said was discovery in their community

The oil field is presently being contended by both Kogi and Anambra States.

ACF assured that it will support the people of Kogi State in the fight towards recovery of what legitimately belong to them and ensure that they become the 10th oil producing states in Nigeria.

The ACF Chairman Aliko Muhammed gave the assurance after the group made their presentation and position known on the oil deposit in Kogi state to the body.

NOKSA led by the coordinator Chief Umar Aku Goodman had told ACF that the oil wells are located in Ibaji local government area of Kogi State thereby debunking the claim by the Anambra State government.

He said President Goodluck Jonathan referring to Anambra State as the 10th oil producing state in Nigeria as opposed to Kogi state is very wrong and should be redressed.

According to the Kogi group, “it is on record that the said exploration activities leading to the successful access to the crude oil were carried out within the following communities in Ibaji local government area of Kogi State. These communities are Odeke, Ihile, Echeno, Anocha, Omale, Uchuchu and other communities in the local government area”.

The group also emphasized that Kogi State does not share boundary with Anambra State instead at a distance with Enugu State and wondered why Anambra State could jump over Enugu State to own location 1 of the oil well in Kogi State.

It also stated that, “aside the field tracing and demarcation, there exist a communiqué signed by the three respected Royal fathers representing the three States namely Kogi, Enugu and Anambra States as at 13th April 1994 which clearly indicated that the area where the oil wells are located belongs to Kogi State,”

The Kogi group therefore urged the ACF to examine critically the issues presented before them with a view to prevailing on the Federal Government to reconsider its stance and declare Kogi State as an oil producing state.

It also appealed to the northern umbrella group to reach out to all well meaning Nigerians and “most importantly President Jonathan to right the wrong which it said is a product of well calculated deception that is being perpetrated against Kogi State to create unnecessary tension”.

ACF in his remarks by the Chairman said, “certainly you can count on the support of the ACF in the respect of the Oil well, know that the boundary commission which is a Federal government commission knows the truth and everybody will rely on them, so if there is oil well in this place, everybody knows where it is, the local government, zone and so on.

“We will certainly support you and anything that is northern; we will ensure that it doesn’t go anywhere, part of the reason is the fact that the oil company is from Anambra State and the got the license. We will certainly work with you, support you and also make sure that nobody takes away the oil from the north.

“Other states have always said they are the one who have oil, now the north has oil and therefore the northerners are going to be considered as an oil state, be rest assures that we will support you and that your oil well cannot be taken away,” the ACF boss said.
