mank1234: Did they win the trophy? If the strategy failed twice with the calibre of players in that team then the strategy is not fool-proof. Just imagine if ball gets behind the 6 displaced players. i was simply countering your submission that they were booted out before reaching the final which is false..for them to do it in 74 and reach the final and go to 78 to reach the final again using the same system means they knew what they were doing and other teams they met en route to those two finals were simply overawed by that system (except germany and argentina whom the lost the two finals to)..whether they won it or not is not the issue here..no deviate on being fool proof please tell me which system of football is fool proof and why is everyone not adopting that fool proof football |

The Super Eagles' new home and away kit is meant to pay homage to their USA 1994 campaign.
The home shirt features a bright green-and-white zig-zag pattern spreading across the torso and the contrasting sleeves.
Nigeria's away shirt for the Russia World Cup is more understated and closer in resemblance to their more recent shirts with an all-over dark green design.
The kit manufacturers Nike said they wanted to 'tap into the attitude of the nation' with the design and aimed to build the kit based on the identities of the players.

Nigeria's 2018 kit pays homage to the shirt worn at USA 1994 - the west African nation's debut on the World Cup stage.
The shirts were launched with the help of Premier League trio Wilfied Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho as well as ex-Chelsea midfielder Jon Obi Mikel.
'I grew up in England, but Nigeria is my homeland,' Arsenal star Iwobi told Nike's official website.
'When I scored that goal, the players were dancing, the fans were playing trumpets and bringing drums... there was just so much passion and energy.
'It is always an honour to wear the white and green. To compete this summer is not just our dream, it is also the dream of our fans. Together, we all represent Naija.'

The shirt is founded on the concept of 'Naija' - which means future-focused optimism and encourages the new generation of Nigerians to celebrate their country's rich history and culture.
Nigeria have been drawn into Group D at the 2018 World Cup in Russia alongside Argentina, Croatia and Iceland.
The Super Eagles have never advanced past the round of 16 at the World Cup having reached the knockout stages three times in their history - in 1994, 1998 and 2014.
Iwobi scored the only goal of the game against Zambia in October as Nigeria became the first African nation to book their place in Russia.
The Super Eagles are joined by Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia and Egypt in flying the flag for Africa at the 2018 World Cup.

Players play to the gallery, show boating and doing sometimes unnecessary dribbles, drag backs, etc forgetting about end product.
However the crowd loves it, unfortunately that kind of football will not win you anything in today's football environment. only if england had flair players all these years bar gazza maybe they would have reached a world cup or euro final since 1966 |

elyte89: Like u av rightly said in ur first few paragraphs, asyde d fans here on dis thread,95percent of Nigerians including nairalanders outside dis thread don't believe in dis team, a whole lot of ppu still feel bittered like u once experienced after watching Ghana vs Nigeria match in 2008,infact most av lost faith after our lackluster performance against Angola in 2006 where we failed to qualify for d worldcup,I av lot of ppu who fell into dis category ,they stopped watching eagles after DT match in 2006
Let me paint a scenerio for u,after reading some of d inspiring comments of TheSupernerd,kennysvile,tbaba1234and some oda monikers view our chances of our team in russia to reach d semi final of d world cup,wc majority of us believe in dis thread.
I took DT spirit of optimism to discuss d points I got here in d midst of guys in area,I was still on our first match against Croatia, immediately I said "IF" we defeat Croatia,If u luk at d way I was looked down upon ,some bursted into laffs, some even said we shld not boda going etc,I was now wondering in my mind DT what if I had said,we re going to beat Croatia like we do say here, wetin for happen to me .some even said dey would b supporting oda teams, and all oda derogatory statements hurled at us,singling just Mikel and moses as our biggest stars,we av no chance etc
My broda MAJORITY still havnt believe in dis team yet o,despite qualifying out from a difficult group wout calculator like we do b4 ,most of dem said our best eagles play ended with d 98 set.
I don't knw what d eagles can do again to win d heart of d majority .but me no send em sha,if we can win d 1st match
We re going to make it to d quarterfinals of d tournament bros na so e be oo..make we just observe wetin dey go happen with cautiousness..that manner of loss to ghana in that semi final fit make one break person head i swear. |

i can understand the pessimisim and negative comments towards super eagles leading to this tournament..it is sort a coping mechanism to shield oneself from emotional anguish should these eagles flop..i used to be be in that state ..started in that nations cup semi finals against Ghana(cant remember if it was 2008 edition now)when Nigeria went ahead through a penalty in the second half after mensah brought down odewingie ..mensah was later sent off making Ghanaians to be one man down from then on. now instead of eagles to march on and pound Ghana that was surely demoralized having a man sent off(defender) and one goal down it now looked like it was Nigerian player that was sent off ..then Ghanaians piled pressure on us..we could not even string decent passes and attacks again..next Ghana then equalized and later on score 2 (by agogo i think) in the dying mins of that match..i have never being angry about a result the way i was before that day..my issue wasn't the loss but the manner eagles lost..coupled with so many uninspiring performance of eagles few years prior to that i emotionally logged out Nigerian national team football for sometime not even the 2013 winning of nations cup could get me that interested again(back then i felt it was just pure luck and nothing else)..couldn't even remember most of the actions of the eagles in that tournament. when the draws for qualifying for 2018 world cup was made i heard that Algeria,Zambia and Cameroon were in our group i remember telling a friend that we should just opt out of qualifying and go and rest (i didnt even know the day we played Tanzania en route to the group stage..when i heard we beat them i just yinmued)..i was forced by by that friend to watch the Cameroon encounter in uyo as i wasn't interested..however some displays i saw in that match ignited a lost emotion for i saw some sort of organization in the eagles play that had been lacking prior to then..it was later displays against Algeria ,Zambia and return leg of Cameroon that made me feel that ok it seems that there could be some sort of hope in this team strictly because of counter attacks, some level of organizational play and less controversy unlike in the past all i can say is that this team is likely going to have the best preparation to a world cup of any eagles team bar 94 set..there seems to be more organization and unity of purpose in this team than any other we have had going to a world cup..issues of cabals within and squabbles about match bonuses squad is absent unlike 94 and 98...however they can not be compared to 94 or even 98 set in terms of individual quality by any stretch.. so i say let me just have cautious optimism on this side because i have watched international football long enough to know organisation and unity can take you to a certain far in a tournament most times..but it reaches a stage where individual quality seems to take over and this is where i feel we would fall short(only the Germans seem to win tournaments with having and x factor player). so allow the people with supposed pessimism to have air their views without must condemnation because their mindset cannot be changed now until something spectacular happens..i try imagine my mindset now trying to convince my 2008 to 2016 mindset about eagles doing respectively well in Russia..would probably break my own head lol |

MetalJigsaw: Nigerian Can Only Beat Croatia With Counter Attack – Coach
Tomislav Obradovic, the coach of Croatia national team, has revealed that the only way the Super Eagles could defeat his team when both sides meet at the 2018 World Cup in Russia would be through counter attacks, boasting that there is no way Nigeria could overcome them.
Both Nigeria and Croatia will go head-to-head at the Kaliningrad Stadium, Kaliningrad on June 16, 2018 and the coach is optimistic that they would see off Nigeria, saying that in the Super Eagles, there are several players in the team with the same characteristics.
Obradovic was coach of the Rwandan U-20 National Team for two and a half years, and he almost qualified the country for the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Asked to compare Nigeria’s offensive players Iwobi and Chelsea’s Victor Moses, Obradovic told Sportske Novosti: “Compare all of them with their characteristics? Everyone is similar and quick, good within a group. But where are the world-class players?
“It’s probably quite enough, but as a team I do not think they have world-class quality. Why do I say that? They have too many players with the same characteristics.
“They cannot beat Croatia. Not in one segment of the game. Neither technical, tactical, nor organisational, nor in any sense.”
Tomislav Obradovic warned the Croatian team that Nigeria’s counter attack could be dangerous because they have fast players. “The only way they can outsmart us is if they threaten us from the counterattack because they have such players, quick, fast. “We have to hold the ball, wait and play our organised football because we are better, disciplined, stronger on the ball, better one on one,” Obradovic boasted.
