English language is very weak when used to explain the bible. You will have to use direct translation from Hebrew to english to know why rod means something tougher. Cain works you are right but it wont work because it has no form of intelligently engaging the kids. It affects confidence in kids and goes even to their adulthood. ImaIma1: |
Rod an not cain you said. Use rod lets see na. lol ImaIma1: |
I'm walking away, trouble is not mine I'm walking away...lol. Let me come back from church so I can give intelligent answer. livingseed: |
Hmmm if I ask you some questions you will know it didn't really work o. But lemme be going to church first. Lol Lalas247: |
I don't think Cain works on the long term o. If that works then prisoners will not come out hardened but reformed. Kids will not leave the home to trouble the streets. Lalas247: |
Correct. I heard that Emmanuella saying she knows more that half of what adults are hiding from them. Have you tried to get kids mimick their parents? You go run. mhizesther: |

Parenting isn't a joke because it's one thing to know what you want and another thing to know how to make your kids obey you. The key to getting your child to obey you is positive communication. AVOID THE USE OF "DON'T" e.g. Don't go out, don't on that TV, don't sleep there? Focus on what they should do and not what they should not do. AVOID THE WORD "NOT"... In a bid to correct a child don't say I told you not to do this but say " I told you to... Instead of saying "you know you should not" say you know you should. Anger comes with the use of negative words of "nots" don't fall for it. What you say is what they do and not what you mean. Your communication must be 2in1 package, say what you mean, focusing only on what you mean. No treats and no pre-rewards The use of treats on a child is never a corrective measure and the reward system is the best just don't let the kids know you will reward them ahead. Keep it to yourself and surprise them. A child what knows every thing he does rightly can attract a positive reward will be inwardly motivated all the time and will not have an entitlement mentality which is what we call corruption in Nigeria. Oya add your one piece advice to parents with stubborn kids. cc: lalasticlaala, mynd44 |
WHO WROTE THE MESSAGE VERSION ? I grew up like many to be taught the bible with the King James Version Bible and somehow, I felt that is the true Bible. So many verses I had memorized, but a few I truly can relate with in my personal life. Every verse of the bible I understand with the ideology of “heaven and hell”, sin and salvation, until I read THE MESSAGE version bible. To be candid, at first I called it “the bible written by an arrogant man” the reality of the message bible to my contemporary life was so real that I felt the guilt of been detached from my childhood truth which was really not understood by me in contemporary terms. I stumbled upon the following about the man behind “The Message Bible”and here it is… Eugene Peterson2 Why was The Message written? The best answer to that question comes from Eugene Peterson himself: “”While I was teaching a class on Galatians, I began to realize that the adults in my class weren’t feeling the vitality and directness that I sensed as I read and studied the New Testament in its original Greek. Writing straight from the original text, I began to attempt to bring into English the rhythms and idioms of the original language. I knew that the early readers of the New Testament were captured and engaged by these writings and I wanted my congregation to be impacted in the same way. I hoped to bring the New Testament to life for two different types of people: those who hadn’t read the Bible because it seemed too distant and irrelevant and those who had read the Bible so much that it had become ‘old hat…A deep scriptural truth is “Over a Bowl of Soup by Dr. Tunde Ariyibi. Why The Message Version Was Written Peterson’s parishioners simply weren’t connecting with the real meaning of the words and the relevance of the New Testament for their own lives. So he began to bring into English the rhythms and idioms of the original ancient Greek—writing straight out of the Greek text without looking at other English translations. As he shared his version of Galatians with them, they quit stirring their coffee and started catching Paul’s passion and excitement as he wrote to a group of Christians whom he was guiding in the ways of Jesus Christ. For more than two years, Peterson devoted all his efforts to The Message New Testament. His primary goal was to capture the tone of the text and the original conversational feel of the Greek, in contemporary English. Language changes. New words are formed. Old words take on new meaning. There is a need in every generation to keep the language of the gospel message current, fresh, and understandable—the way it was for its very first readers. That is what The Message seeks to accomplish for contemporary readers. It is a version for our time—designed to be read by contemporary people in the same way as the original koin Greek and Hebrew manuscripts were savored by people thousands of years ago. That’s why NavPress felt the time was right for a new version. When we hear something over and over again in the same way, we can become so familiar with it that the text loses its impact. The Message strives to help readers hear the living Word of God—the Bible—in a way that engages and intrigues us right where we are. Some people like to read the Bible in Elizabethan English. Others want to read a version that gives a close word-for-word correspondence between the original languages and English. Eugene Peterson recognized that the original sentence structure is very different from that of contemporary English. He decided to strive for the spirit of the original manuscripts—to express the rhythm of the voices, the flavor of the idiomatic expressions, the subtle connotations of meaning that are often lost in English translations. What is The Goal of The Message Bible? The goal of The Message is to engage people in the reading process and help them understand what they read. This is not a study Bible, but rather “”a reading Bible.”” The verse numbers, which are not in the original documents, have been left out of the print version to facilitate easy and enjoyable reading. The original books of the Bible were not written in formal language. The Message tries to recapture the Word in the words we use today. I am now in Lagos and will be sharing my experience. Everyone loves good food and sometimes getting good and tasty meal outside home is always a difficult task especially for . More difficult in a city like Lagos where you have numerous Bukkas but the big question is where do I eat delicious meal when I am not home? Here are three (3) places you should visit when next you want to eat your delicious meal be it continental, local or 1. 01SHAWARMA: When I first heard of this food outlet, I was wondering why the name is “01”. So I decided to taste their shawarma and I bet you that it was really amazing, what a delicious shawarma I had for dinner that night. I got to know that they have branches all over Lagos. Let me just say Lagosians too much. You might be lucky to have one of the branches on your street as I saw it on google map. I dare you to try it out today. 2. BUHKA EXPRESS AFRICAN RESTAURANT: After a few experience with Lagos food I decided to try technology on local food using my phone i order for Amala as I saw it on facebook Chai no be here . Buhka Express is a one-stop outlet that you should visit when it comes to local dishes. I am not a Yoruba, but I decided to go out of my normal meals and I ate Amala and Gbegiri for lunch because my colleagues at work had that for lunch and they were exclaiming in Yoruba language “odun gan” = It’s sweet. It was so delicious. I'm enjoying my new work life of fun now. 3. 01 MANDARIN CHINESE RESTAURANT: This is another fantastic experience of Chinese meals out of China. I had Singapore Special Noodles that at this quiet simple restaurant. It was so very delicious, thanks to my friend who gave me that special treat. What meal would you like to eat when you visit or order online? The beautiful thing is that you can order online on any of the platforms like website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Abeg come and share your experience if you have visited any of this places. Experience Lagos.

PRAISE HAS A MIND OF HIS OWN Yes I know and I have been getting feedbacks that my posts right here are no longer frequent. I was studying about king Jehoshaphat, the king of Isreal and I found one thing about him, he never had a mind of his own, he never really listened to HIM who owned him. He was the leader of a unique tribe called Judah, but never understood one fundamental truth of his call, culture and nature which is praise. One of the properties and characteristics of praise is that PRAISE HAS A MIND OF HIS OWN. Praise is not moved by the things that are seen, experienced and available to the physical realm. The lowest realm of awareness is the physical realm and praise is at a far higher consciousness than the physical. Jehoshaphat didn't have a mind of his own, he moved constantly with the popular opinions, numbers visible to the eyes as can be seen when he believe over 400 prophets twice against one prophet, well who would not go with popular vote in times like this when trend is taking for fame and fame is related to passives greatness and influence? No lie. When you praise, have a mind of your own and that mind just be the mind giving to you by God. Bros wetin you get wen God no give u? The moment you can't praise it means you are not using your own d but the mind of poverty, lack, sickness, fear, worry and you are seeking popular opinion...oya take control of you mind now and go praise GOD for that thing wen you believe. Lead your tribe (destiny) well, no be like Jehoshaphat biko. #IBelieve |
I came into Lagos last week for an interview. After the interview, you know naw, I was seriously hungry and tired. I made some new friends and as we were just discussing about the interview and I chipped in to tell them that I am hungry and needed something light to eat. Thanks to online service, I googled and saw 01Shawarma and the reviews that were made by other customers and decided to give it a try. I placed an order on their website for a chicken double shawarma. Mehn, within thirty minutes, it was delivered to me hot, fresh. I took the first bite to feel the taste and it was so delicious. I had to devour the remaining part without mercy. It was the best shawarma I’ve had in a long while unlike what I get in Ibadan, those boys too dey form for us. 01Shawarma, please come to Ibadan. We need you here. Lagos 01Shawarma is making me pray for this Job more now.

There are times that when pastor is preaching, members are hearing another thing. This is what I learnt from my pastor and mentor today on business. What puts many of us off doing and achieving several goals in life is that we try to do the big and in trying to do the big, we end up doing nothing at all. Days stretch into weeks, weeks into months and in many cases months into years. No movement, no progress. "What stops many of us is that we try start big but end up not starting at all. This is what I'd call the 'BIG' TRAP." Now what is that thing you are struggling to start and haven't? Could it be because you are trying to do too much too soon? It might be wise in your case to take another look at it and explore how you can start small, be consistent and grow from there. There is every likelihood that a year from now you'll be thanking God you did. 'For who has despised the day of small thing's? ' Zec 4:10. Have you? Why wait till tomorrow...you can call that person for the small business now. Happy Sunday The title is the summary of what I learnt from my mentor Pastor Tunde Ariyibi of www.walkingwithgodonline.com. The original title is start small, start where you are. |
OVER A BOWL OF SOUP I'm at my regular Chinese restaurant for a quick bowl of soup. She walked in shortly after I did. Middle aged probably but definitely in the middle of a crisis. "How could you let this happen? " she agonized over the phone almost in tears to her son . "After all we've done, after all we've spent, after all our efforts. Have you called your dad to inform him of this terrible thing you are telling me?" By now my mind was temporarily off my bowl of soup, feeling for her being I parent myself. I almost stood up from my table to go and express the words of encouragement that were welling up in my mind - that God would make a way in the situation, that she should not despair. I restrained myself thinking not to be too forward. As she noticed that her voice was rising over the phone, she stepped out so as not to disturb others. A gentleman who was seated behind me, also witnessing the drama, approached the woman on his way out, enquiring what the problem was. All of a sudden, through the window I saw her countenance change. She started kneeling and thanking him as he gave her a phone number. He was a provision, an answer to her problem. She stepped back in exclaiming - see how God works! In my heart, i rejoiced with her. Indeed, how God works ! How come that gentleman was there when she was there? How come she received the news when this man would over hear it? God had made provision for her even before she knew she would need it. She was taken by surprise, but God wasn't. A man's unbelief does not stop God from doing what he's going to do. It only stops him from receiving what He has done. I encourage you today to rise up in faith and receive what He has already done for you. It's there,it's waiting to be revealed. Anyway the soup was sweet and I hope you have a blessed week. You read more on his social page. But I hope to post more for you here. Instagram: @babatundeariyibi twitter:@psttundeariyibi |
