studyless123: What did the NCC do? Starlink is oversubscribed and it only makes sense to stop accepting new subscribers. They are actively working on their ground station & PoP. Unnecessary hype about the Gen3 kits, no significant difference in terms of speed. After the expansion, things will improve. The problem is not about over sub.... They themselves confirmed it's because of NCC that are not letting in new subscribers |

Thinkunltd: believe some people are trying to sabotage Starlink’s presence in this country. Economically, it doesn’t favor them, so they’re using the NCC to frustrate it. The truth is, Starlink has taken over Nigeria’s internet market, and they’re scared that, in the near future, it will push every other network provider out. That’s why they’re now scrambling to launch a competing satellite service desperate moves.
But their plans to shut down or frustrate Starlink won’t work. Just this month alone, I’ve used over 600GB of data with Starlink. Tell me, which other service provider offers that for ₦38k, let alone with their painfully slow speeds? Honestly, granting Starlink an operational license is probably the only good thing the Nigerian government has done for its people and even that was accidental. If they had known how beneficial it would be to Nigerians, they wouldn’t have approved it in the first place. I love how you stated they approved it by mistake. Nigeria doesn't like what is good for her citizens. When they finally saw that Nigerians even in rural places can now be productive with starlink they realised their mistake and now trying to frustrate and kick them away to make Nigerians suffer. Even at 75k, starlink has no competition in terms of value of money and service. Also, never you say starlink can't go. They themselves said it in their dezember message to everyone that if the NCC does not come up to a good compromise with them, they will leave the Nigerian market. |

Jummymine: Please how do I FastTrack the delivery of my replacement starlink. My starlink got spoilt after a heavy rainfall last month.I complained to them about a month ago and they said they would send a replacement. The replacement was supposed to be delivered today and now they have changed it to the end of April. Is there anyway I can fast track the delivery? That will make it 2 months without the starlink internet. Only starlink can assist you on that I think |

dustmalik: Starlink has introduced Gen3 V4 kit to the Nigerian market, but yet to open up residential registration. Only those in areas where business plans are still available for registration can get it for now.
The NCC needs to come to a compromise with Starlink soon, this thing has dragged long enough. The news I've been waiting for. I recently asked them and they confirmed it's the NCC problem making them not to open up the market. But it's great they've given us the Gen3 |

Oshomo12: Guys be very careful with all this shattered glass solar panels. They discard them for a reason. Some people may have been using them for years here, well, I don't joke with myself and properties.
The money saved in buying them is not worth the risk. I appreciate the advice sir. But I didn't buy them shattered. I bought them brand new, and while transporting to far location on bad road with ups and down, 2 panels shattered out of 10. I used the 8 clean one. The other 2 are still producing power. I don't want to waste them when I've extra inverter, extra controller I can throw the two shattered ones into to help me get the value of the money I spent on them. Can't throw 260k away like that. They can serve me for 5-8 yrs if I'm lucky. |

Dam5reey1: Same Voltage or less than 5% difference = parallel
Same Current or less than 5% difference = Series.
Jinko 440w and 555w works perfectly in Series..
I have shared this on my older username before. Thanks.. They are actually both jinko 555w but but have shattered glass. One is producing 250w, don't know about the other yet. Both being shattered at different degrees I only thought they will now have different volts and current production. I want to join both together for a setup. I can still use them for some years. |

Pls what's the best way to connect 2 solar panels of different wattage to get the most wattage out of both?
Series or parallel? |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ask4bk(m): 12:15pm On Mar 15, 2025 |
I need advice here.
I've 2 jinko 555w panels that broke when I was transporting them to far location. Both have cracks or shattered glass, but still together. For 6 months now I've been using one of the shattered jinko panel to power just one fridge of 160w. The panel produces 250w max since coz of the crack. I've never added the 2nd one. It's just laying somewhere.
I want to add the 2nd one to the first to see it i can get 500w combined from both.
What's the best way you suggest I connect them to get the wattage out of both panels? Series or parallel? Take note, due to cracking in various degrees, they won't produce equal voltage or current.
They'll be connected to 60a mppt felicity charger, two 12v 200a gel batteries (I've 12v 172ah lithium as alternative) and to this yeye inverter wey de mek fridge noise for night.
Any professional advice pls. Pls don't tell me to go buy new panels.

dustmalik: Starlink now available in Niger and it's the Gen3 V4. The residential plan costs approximately 82k in Naira. Hopefully, by the time NCC approves their price review, it won't cost up to that. We need this approved in Nigeria so badly. That's the only route it'll take if V3 and sub increase don't work. You people are in town, so if starlink leaves you have alternatives. We who live in the rural bush with no mtn, glo or airtel and only survive with starlink, we will pay even 150k per month if it comes to it. Bring on the v3 and 75k. I pray it comes this month. |

Good news is that West Africa is now being officially introduced to starlink v3 and mini devices with residential and residential lite services. This has been officially opened for Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Bad news is that Nigeria and Benin Republic are still not considered yet. Both countries are still blocked from new subscribers awaiting for v3 to be officially introduced for them. Only then will the new monthly price of 75k take effect. Hopefully it'll happen this month.
Shalom. |

Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ask4bk(m): 11:11am On Feb 26, 2025 |
KA24DETT: You are looking at name plate rating which you rarely get, its rare for a 550watts panel to produce 550 watts in real life considering factory testing was done at STC... I reckon the most you can get is 70-80% of stated rating. Some people do produce that but rarely consistent.
I have a 16kw battery but my daily load is 63kw. ( 8kw continous x9 hours). Its not that oversized. We came across a deal to buy panels very cheap so we did.. it was luck. Is it efficient? NO. Can you get more output from the system? YES. We are more concerned with getting consistent output despite low light conditions. Its extreme but the point of my post is to prove you can add more panels past the stated inverter rating.. My system is different than a regular user.. The project calls for eliminating diesel generator use 100% completely during the day with no excuse for rain or clouds. I understand you well and if I had the money I would do so too. My system is also completely off grid. No nepa and no gen for years and it'll remain like that. I'm not a heavy electricity consumer. Only 6kwh I consume during the day from the sun and my 14kwh battery serves me 5kwh throughout night till next day when sun kicks in again. My panels are also oversized compared to my consumption. I consume about 500w per hour but my panels produce 4kwh in good condition and 2kwh in bad weather condition which is still too much for my lil consumption. What I consume at night is replenished by sun before 10am sef and the rest of the day is ran by panels. We still have to accept that these are things only people with money can do. Not everyone can cook up a fully offgrid setup for home or business. |

KA24DETT: LOL.. thats not true. it will clip. I do run my 10kv hybrids with 33,000 watts of solar panels connected. MPPT pulling 120amps from dawn to dusk. One year and still working. In my system, none of my systems have less than 30,000 watts of solar panels attached to it and i have 8 systems running. I can attach videos. See Elon Musk's cousin oh. Where una de get this money abeg? By the way, 120a from morning to evening is like just 6kwh constant from that mppt. With a 33kwh panels, what happens to the remaining 26kwh+- wasting? I know you oversized so that even with low sun you are pulling 6kwh, but coming from you who advised that we should save cost, I no see any saving of cost you did here oh. You just de waste panels up there. And that's just one setup oh, you said you've like others similar to that. Money! |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ask4bk(m): 10:54pm On Feb 25, 2025 |
KA24DETT: 16mm is too overkill. Its a waste of money. For your next project, get an inverter with 500v MPPT. Series those panels and use a smaller cable like 6mm, use the savings to buy more panels. You can never have too many panels. I use standalone mppt with 150v max. I can only put max of 3 panels in series. If I've 3 sets of that and I've to parallel them, the ahms will surely go above 50a. Max that is recommended for 6mm² is 55a. Personally, anything that nears 40a I can't use 6mm on it. 16mm² may be overkill for you, but it's the best for my situation and protects me from heat, excessive voltage drop and high resistance. |

It is already clearly written on this same page multiple times that you can only activate the BUSINESS PLAN on a brand new kit. The 38k residential plan only still remains for OLD CUSTOMERS that were able to activate their kit with the residential plan before the suspension of residential and roaming plans for new customers In Nigeria. Suspension of residential and roaming isn't only in Nigeria but entire West Africa. Only East Africa works and coincidentally, only them have new v3 starlink being sold to them. The rest of West Africa from Nigeria to Sierra Leone that use v2 have all services suspended. |

Ferdiwar: This quotation is overly inflated and the installer seems inexperienced from the size of Cables on the list.
16mm DC cable is too much for 6 panels that will be connected in series as the current is under 20A.
Same goes to 16mm AC cable for a 6KW inverter. Omo, I've same setup and I insisted on 16mm. It's just an overkill but in the long run it saves you from cable heats and in the future you want to upgrade you don't need to buy cables again. |

Opistorincos: 60a Hope you are not carrying much load. Highest 60a charger will charger your lithium battery is 700w+- and that is with good sun. If your load is 400w+ you may discharge your battery faster than you charge it on some days. It's advices not to have load more than 250w, my opinion. I've one 12v lithium and only use a fridge of 100w on it. For settings, i suggest charging voltage to be 14-14.1V. Float voltage should be same as your charging voltage. This enables the charger to carry the load of your device when it's filled and there's sun. If not, it'll fill up and stop working while draining your battery again |
