Yes I get it. It is just so complicated. Aphrodite007: As far as you’ve applied, the expiry of your visa/BRP should not worry you. Normally the dependent can apply anytime, but in your case, you may need to apply at the same time:
A = sponsor B = dependent
If A wants to become dependent on B, B must become sponsor first.
A cannot depend on a “dependent”. That is, A cannot be sponsored by someone that’s currently being sponsored. |

I know right. I just want to know if dependent apply later because it seems like a brp replacement visa may take time to be issued. And by then it would have expired. The new rules are so confusing. Aphrodite007: Two scholars have said what I would have said. You can now switch visas easily while in-country so have fun. I just dey pity your pocket but family comes first. |

I’ve gotten conditional offers from some uni and sent necessary documents. I’m only waiting for the unconditional offer letter and CAS. However, I don’t know how long this will take and if the lockdown will slow things down. Someone advised I leave and put in my visa application from outside the UK. I’m just worried because time is running out. What will you suggest? I don’t want to overstay. Bourne007: @bolded .. every (wo)man's circumstances are different
Just to be clear, No one needs to go through the same process as long as their is an official guideline for you to follow. These new visas only came into effect just recently and it will be difficult to actually find someone.
The new rules clearly say a Tier 4 dependant can now apply in-country so I am not sure why you are looking for someone who doesn't exist. Did you manage to get admission and gotten CAS?
You can definitely switch your visa alone and be on a Tier 4. Your partner who's out of the country can immediately apply to be depandant when you get your visa. If your partner happens to get BRP and back in the country, he can again switch immediately. |

Happy new year everyone. So still on this switching visa issue, can the dependent switches visa alone if the “former” main applicant is not in at the moment due to the travel restrictions. It’s a long story but brp is missing now and we don’t know how long it will take to get a replacement visa while outside the Uk. So I was wondering if the dependent can switch while in the uk without any problems and what can be done for former main applicant/new dependent. Because the issue just keeps getting complicated and no one seems to have gone through this process on the forum. @justwise @lexusgs430 @Bourne007 @Aphrodite007 @LagosismyHome |

My people, is it so complicated that nobody has any input? @justwise @lexusgs430 @Bourne007 and other elders. assumpta1: Merry Christmas my people. Has anybody switched from a dependent visa to a student visa? I’d like to confirm the requirements. On the .gov site, it says if you’ve been here for up to 12 months, the proof of maintenance won’t be required. Has anybody gone through this route and can you confirm the process and requirements? Thank you. |

Already working on this. Hopefully time is still on my side. Bourne007: Ah okay .. I no read reach that level so wasn't too sure what she meant.
Some Universities still have offer available for January 2021 and as long as partner gets admission, it's so feasible. And as you know, once documents are sent to UKVI, leave to remain is extended. |

Yes. I know. But time is the only constraint. Bourne007: How you mean "extension to PhD"? I thought PhD visas get atleast 3 years.
If you really want to stay, hope you are aware you 'as a dependant' can switch in-country to Tier 4 while partner is dependant |

School said they can’t proceed with the admission as the supervisor is down with the virus at the moment. So they are putting everything on hold until he recovers. It’s PhD. So, they are not even saying anything about issuing CAS. But I will try this again today. Aphrodite007: Wow this is hard o. But you’re doing the right thing.
But why is your school sorting out your visa? It’s meant to be done by UKVI. All your uni has to do is give you CAS right, Then you apply for visa? Right?
If I’m right, get the cas and apply for your visa then you won’t need to go home. It’s just a letter, Covid shouldn’t stop them from typing a letter. Also speak to your international office or SU; they may have similar cases.
. I don’t know sha. Sorry o. |

I appreciate your response. I’ve checked the website but the only thing I’m seeing about extension is that CAS is a requirement. But the uni just made it known yesterday that they cannot process the admission as planned for next month due to a key person been down with the virus or something like that. This is something that had been progressing nicely until this week. And the only thing left was just a final approval. LagosismyHome: I did read although a while now so my info is rusty..on how home office is accepting in country application due to covid. Check .gov website |

Good evening everyone. I honestly don’t even know where to start. But the pandemic affected some plans and now schools says they can’t sort admission process till February or March due to COVID. This is supposed to be an extension to PhD. Visa expires in January. I know nobody has a post-pandemic experience. But is there any way to work around this without having to go back to Nigeria and end up starting start a fresh visa application? I will appreciate every comment and support. I’m just confused. Thank you.
P.S- I have started packing already as I don’t plan to overstay. |

Please can you explain this? Bourne007: These are basically path to settlement called ILR.
5 year is usually when you are on Tier 1, 2 (with dependants), Spousal 10 year route leads to settlement as long as you have legally stayed in the UK. During this process, you can be on any visa (switch/extend) as long as it's legal.
Tier 4 and Post study does not count to settlement but can be used alongside the 10 year route. |

You are not alone EmmyKing86: Good morning everyone.
Trust all is keeping safe.
Still about passport renewal at the Nigerian High Commission London. I applied for passport renewal on the 24th of August. On one hand, information on the website says backlog of applications fron March to August will be dealt with. While on the other hand, renewal will be strictly on appointment.
Since my application (and payment), I have not gotten any appointment date via text or email as promised on the website and I am thinking on going to London next week since covid cases have started to increase and want to avoid any possible lockdown situation.
Please, I want to know if anyone is in the same predicament or have recently collected a new passport.
Kind Regards. |
