Your post here made absolutely NO sense and is highly offensive to everyone that is an indigene of Lagos Island and the 20 LGAs of Lagos State. What's wrong with some of you from the South East of Nigeria with your careless posts? Desist from this irresponsible politicking and RESPECT the memories of a fallen "Iroko tree."

Besides, as a man who has a vast knowledge of advanced history from the archives and global geopolitics, I can affirm here and now that the ancestral origins of most Yoruba returnees who resettled mainly on Lagos Island and Abeokuta after returning from Brazil, Cuba, United States via Liberia, Sierra Leone, Jamaica, etc, from the mid-1800s are largely from the Yoruba interior in terms of ancestry. Oyo, Egba, Ijesa, Yewa, some Ijebu, some Ekiti, Owu, etc. So, the Ajayi Crowthers, Macaulays, the Vaughans, the Fowlers, the royal Haastrophs of Ijesaland, Moores, Da Rochas, Da Silvas, Pinheiros, etc, were originally from Oyo, Egba, Ijesa, Yewa, etc, BUT only started naturalizing from the late 1800s as "indigenes" of Lagos Island even though their true origins are from the interior States... The Aworis being the ORIGINAL land owners of Eko or Lagos Island. There are pre-colonial and post-colonial Nigeria books which contain the true Victorian era history of Eko (Lagos Island) and the entire Yoruba country. Period.

I will be taking major actions soon.
Thank you for this, Obidients can't help themselves and I am not sure how they can be cured.

An illustrious educator has died, instead of paying their respects like you have in a respectful manner, they are desecrating a thread opened in her honour.

Even if they want to make a point about whatever, based on the election loss suffered by Peter Obi, can't they do it some other place?

That they are badly brought up and are allowed to show it for all to see is not right, mods should not allow this to happen.

Not everything bitter politics.

You people have started again with this recycled, fake news.

There are no FBI files or DEA files, Greenspan and Hundeyin have fallen out. There is nothing to report or see.

Gazettengr.com is a fake news outlet. They used to claim it was a Judge Beryl Howell that adjudged the fake case, it was investigated and at no point did she handle the ghost case.

Now they have decided not to name a judge so we can't check the Judge cases for the day.

U are busy speculating.

Anybody that is not Benin and to a lesser extent Awori has no historical or cultural claim to Lagos.
Benin lay no claim to Lagos, it was an outpost that was eventually relinquished. I bet you can't even point to where exactly the outpost was.

It is Yorubaland, pure and simple.

Please stop using Benin people as proxy to fight your Obidient anti-Yoruba Lagos land grab wars.
PoliticsRe: 2027: I’ll Never Align With Tinubu To Become Lagos Governor – Rhodes-vivour by aswani(m): 8:48pm On Sep 08, 2025
omoredia:
So, historically: “Eko” = war camp (Benin Edo origin).
Culturally: Yoruba still claim it as “our settlement.”.
In those days, Lagos wasn't a huge monolith it is now. The war camp that Benin had was a small part of Lagos nearer the coast. Of course the other parts of Lagos had other settlers that were indigenes, they just knew better than to aggressively go near the war camp. Same as those in the war camp knew better than to try and conquer all the other people's.

Whilst history rightly documents issues and wars between tribes, there are lots of treaties and pacts that existed amongst them, mostly for coming together to fight a larger force.

I still haven't seen any reports of wars being fought between Benin and the various Yorùbá kingdoms. Suggests to me a pact was in play, one that was never broken.

Thousands of years ago the Yoruba and Edo would have been the same people. I am however talking of the Benin empire and Benin city. The language of Benin city was Yoruba and the lingua franca of the empire was Yoruba. The Edo speakers entered the city from the suburbs only recently. It is even apparent till now that the language of the empire was Yoruba. Benin is flanked by Yoruboid groups today and there is no way Edo could have been the language of the empire
You are repeating your falsehood, that will never make it right.

Benin people are a distinct entity from Yorùbá's, admittedly the nexus is with the Royal family and of late intermarraiges.

You either need to provide proof of, with the utmost respect, the nonsense you have stated, or stop stating it.

The language of Benin people's has never been Yoruba, where are you getting this BS from?

Stop it please and stop it now, please.
PoliticsRe: Lagos, Historically Benin And Culturally Awori. by aswani(m): 7:27pm On Sep 08, 2025

Eko is a place name that means dependency in Yoruba. There are many Ekos spread over Yoruba land while there is none in Edo state. Then Benin empire was just one of the many Yoruba empires of west Africa. Yoruba was the language of Benin city before the empire fell and it was after the empire fell that Edo speaking people from the suburbs entered the city. The everyday language of Benin city and the Benin empire back then was Yoruba language and not Edo
You might mean well but there is a lot of fallacy in this your post.

Whilst Benin and Yoruba people are neighbours that I am not sure ever fought each other, I don't think they were ever one and the same.

If you do have a link to what you posted, I will be interested though.

Wait a minute...is it an Igbo man that is called BWALA that said on a national TV that Lagos is no man's land and that the investment in Lagos were done by the whole Nigerians and used DANGOTE as an example of what it means to own some parts

Is BWALA an Igbo man ....

Well....that still doesn't change the reality...

Iya shift the goal post... It's Monday morning let's go and work and try buy a property in Lagos ! Cos one youtu whose father might have died will still sell tomorrow! That's a fact and will still come back next tomorrow and cry we own Lagos

Have a blessed day ! Don't focus on Igbo! Focus on hutsle so you can buy yours
I am talking about this thread, what Bwala said and the response he got, and his clarification, can be found on other threads. Stop conflating please.

The person that shouldn't focus on Ndigbo is the one that needlessly started the thread. You start a thread to pepper people, you get feedback regarding the thread and you start complaining, why start the thread in the first place?

That non indigines are buying houses doesn't mean indigines don't still have houses or they themselves are not buying houses. It also doesn't mean indigines would lose political and economic control of their homeland anytime soon.

That is the discussion I was having, not sure where you own rant fits into that.

so it is only Igbo that buy property in Lagos ?

So other tribes don't buy property in Lagos ?

So the Yoruba priffered bidders are Igbo people and not other people even their own people ?

Is that what you are saying

Why narrowing it to Igbo ? Must everything to you be tribalism and WE AGAINST THEM MENTALITY

You can't sell your land today and come back or send your kids tomorrow to tell the person that bought the land you own it.... That's what JIMI DISU said one time in his broadcast! And I agree with him

Lagos is a metropolitan area and this is bound to change the location and the situation
For this particular thread, it is nothing to do with the other tribes that the poster mentioned, they seem ok with what they found in Lagos and are managing it.

The person that started this thread knows what they are doing, it's another in a series of threads by bitter Obidients desperate to tell us how Ndigbo are so rich, they are snapping up all the properties in Lagos and are soon going to take over both economically and politically.

Don't start a fire and drag others into it.

Unintended consequences will dampen your wickedness and evil plans....no be Ndigbo you dey deal with? For every 1 Igbo building in Lagos......there are 10 more elsewhere in Nigeria! If anything happens to Igbo property in Lagos...Yoruba assets abroad will be legally garnisheed ! Remedies will be sought and obtained in all jurisdictions! You can only look and lust after Igbo property in Lagos but you cannot touch!
Per the bolded, how exactly can you relate Lagos state, for example, destroying the property of an Ndigbo to The US government legally garnishing the properties of individual Yoruba people?

You need to tone down your chest beating, other tribes live and prosper in that Lagos, why don't we hear much noise from them in this regard?

Where in that post have you seen any hatred against Ndigbo? And where have I told anyone what I am or am not?

Why are you Obidients like this? You people will start something and then start complaining when it becomes too much for you to bear.

The Obidient poster I responded to referred to the "idiocy" of Ndi Yoruba for renaming streets (I don't necessarily disagree by the way though I understand why and won't use the word idiocy), and stated how non Indigines where soon going to have more people in Lagos.

All I have done is just clarified a few things to them as to how wrong their prognosis is, nothing to do with hating Ndigbo. Please next time, be mindful of your accusations against me and bring congent proof. Thank you.

You are diverting this conversation to elections and tribal politics

We are taking about the penchant selling of ancestral property by yoruba kids only to turn ariyd to say that they have been chased out

Let's discuss that and allow the South South people to talk what they want ...and mind you 50% of them have Igboid blood and they have been together for centuries ...so let them take their decision

Talk about the land being sold to non Yoruba anyhow in Lagos that's the thrust of this chat
The thrust of the argument propounded by the Obidient was that the houses and land would be sold and Ndigbo would buy it all resulting in them taking both political and economic control.

Feel free to check as far back as when it started.

The honest truth if the elections Re dobe without rigging trust me non indigenous people will have a field day
It's all linked, political and economic power cannot be separated.

If elections are redone, Ndi South South will not follow Ndigbo again with voting patterns as per the Peter Obí effect. Obviously Ndi North wouldn't so the only people that will vote as a block is Ndigbo and they are not enough.

Even with other non indigines, they won't be enough to be a force.
