So, all Nigerians abroad should be locked out of their father's land and turned to destitutes and fugitive abroad

Yes, for now. They can't be allowed to endanger the lives of the rest of us. Everyone should stay where they are till the thing is contained. It may sound harsh but that's the only practical way to contain the spread.

For the past few days I have been advocating social distancing on Nairaland but no one is listening. Mods refused to put the thread I opened on it on frontpage. Guys, we need to practise social distancing if we are to survive this thing I swear.

Watch and listen to Will Smith talk about why Social Distancing is key to containing the spread of Corona Virus. This is a MUST WATCH!!!

Health / Oreoluwa Finnih: Patients With Chloroquine Poisoning Now Being Admitted In Lagos by AtikuNetwork: 5:42pm On Mar 20, 2020
Coronavirus: We Are Now Receiving Patients Suffering From Chloroquine Poisoning, Says Lagos Govt, NCDC Cautions Nigerians
On Mar 20, 2020

The Lagos State government on Friday disclosed that following the announcement by President Donald Trump on Thursday that chloroquine can cure coronavirus, hospitals in the state has received patients suffering from chloroquine poisoning.

This was just as the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) told Nigerians to desist from self-medication over the coronavirus as the World Health Organisation (WHO) has not approved chloroquine for the management of coronavirus.

The Lagos State government, through the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Health, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih was quoted by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Gboyega Akosile, as saying that some hospitals in the state are now treating patients who took too many quantities of chloroquine, leading to poisoning.

She, therefore, urged residents of the state to desist from the massive consumption of chloroquine in the hope of curing coronavirus, adding that the best to do is to visit hospitals.

According to Akosile in his twitter handle @gboyegaakosile: Please note: Hospitals Now Receiving Patients Suffering From Chloroquine Poisoning, Says Gov @jidesanwoolu’s SSA on Health, Dr @Oreoluwa_Finnih. She urged people against massive consumption of Chloroquine as a measure to fight #coronavirus.”

Also, the NCDC has told Nigerians to desist from taking self-medication for treatment of coronavirus as it may cause harm and lead to death.

The NCDC in its twitter handle on Friday said: “@WHO has NOT approved the use of chloroquine for #COVID19 management. Scientists are working hard to confirm the safety of several drugs for this disease.

“Please DO NOT engage in self-medication. This will cause harm and can lead to death.”

Health / Re: Nigerians Need To Seriously Start Practicing Social Distancing by AtikuNetwork: 9:35am On Mar 20, 2020
Coronavirus: why should we stay 1.5 metres away from each other?

Why 1.5 metres? Is this our best, practical estimate? Or is there any solid scientific evidence to back it?

The coronavirus is spread from person to person when someone with the virus coughs or sneezes. So people in close contact are at high risk.

Respiratory droplets can land in your mouth or nose. Alternatively, droplets could land on your face, and the next time you touch your face, and then rub your eye, you could infect yourself.

We know the influenza virus is spread in a similar way. One study shows when healthcare workers are within 1.8 metres of patients with influenza, their risk of being infected is increased.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises flu can spread up to 6 feet (1.8 metres). The key message is, the closer you are, the bigger the spray.

Similar research is yet to be done on the coronavirus. But the similarity with the way influenza is spread means we can apply what we know about influenza to the coronavirus.

The recommendation of 1.5 metres is not only based on our knowledge of influenza, it is also a practical distance that allows us to go about our daily lives.

Obviously it’s not a precise measurement, nor is it absolutely guaranteed to prevent spread. But that approximate distance is better than no distance.

The lack of scientific rigour behind these recommendations is borne out in the varied advice from around the world.

The UK’s National Health Service recommends people with symptoms stay at least 2 metres away from others.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everybody should “put distance between yourself and other people”.

Finally, the World Health Organisation advises to keep at least 1 metre between you and anyone coughing and sneezing.

So you get the general idea. Don’t get close.

Social Distancing Facts:

Social distancing practices are changes in behaviour that can help stop the spread of infections. These often include curtailing social contact, work and schooling among seemingly healthy individuals, with a view to delaying transmission and reducing the size of an outbreak.

More pictures of Social Distancing in practice all over the world.

The virus is dwindling already globally

If there's any reduction in the spread it is majorly thanks to social distancing bro. Let's not downplay this threat please. Nigeria go hear am if we no begin mass scale practice of social distancing. The state governors that have banned large gatherings have taken a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done in the area of sensitizing the general populace. This thing is not a joke. We are nowhere near being prepared for the punishment that awaits us as a nation if we fail to do what's necessary to contain the spread of this virus.

I am begging you all in the name of God because our people are not taking this threat serious at all. Many still think it is a joke but believe me when I say it is not a joke. Our health system is nowhere near being ready to handle the consequences of our collective irresponsibility in handling this virus. Na God I take beg una. Besides using sanitizers and face masks, let us also include social distancing. Let us adjust to the new reality on ground. Na beg I dey beg una.

That would be undemocratic. Any governor that is worth his salt should be ready and confident enough to test his own popularity. After dividing their party in their states due to their authoritarianism and dictatorial styles, they now want to impose themselves on the party. 8 years should not be automatic for any governor. He should be ready to compete for his party's ticket.

Those places are worst than schools.

But how can people eat?

This is a very serious issue.

No way out.

You are actually correct. Unless the markets are also shut, every other measure would be in vain. More people patronize markets than schools and even banks. They should announce to the public the date the shutdown would commence so that people would prepare. Nigerians are too lackadaisical about this virus and it is annoying. I was at the Lagos airport this morning to catch a flight and you need to see how people were behaving as if it is still business as usual. That experience was terrifying to me I swear. I have never been more scared of being in a crowd. I pity this country with the way we are treating this matter. Kudos to Obiano for taking this bold step but more needs to be done. This battle against COVID-19 will be a long one that will have a lot casualties.

Nigerians should please start to take this virus spread seriously. I am currently at the Lagos airport and people are not observing social distancing and are behaving as if it is business as usual. Guys, this thing is spreading already. Please I am begging us to start adjusting our behaviours to match this new reality. Cut the crap. What do you mean by 'zombie'? I am just a political observer who tries to be as objective as possible. We all may have a bias in favour of or against some parties or candidates, that is human nature, but some of us are objective enough to see through Buhari's scam. If your definition of zombie is one who supports the ruling party blindly then count me out. But that definition would also apply to the opposition supporters who fail to acknowledge the faults of the party they support.

You are right about one thing, Buhari is a BIG scam.

Which Amaechi? The same one that Wike has made irrelevant in Rivers, that cannot even keep APC together in Rivers. Buhari has used and dumped Amaechi. That is why he rejected his boy Dakuku Peterside and replaced him with his crony in Nimasa. No one should overrated that lizard.

How is it fake news?? Some of you hate the truth. Google is your friend bro. Everybody knows Okonjo Iweala was borrowing to pay salaries before she left government. Nigeria does not need that kind of World bank induced policy. You only use borrowed money for things that will generate revenue, not to pay salaries. But I guess they didn't teach them that at World Bank.

IS ATIKU MORE QUALIFIED THAN HER?

Yes. More than qualified even. How many businesses does she run? Atiku manages lots of successful businesses which are mini economies. Let's leave sentiments for a second, she only pushes the interests of foreign powers that control World Bank. If not she won't have left Nigeria in a position of borrowing to pay salaries.

Walahi you are right. She won't make a good president. Besides, her tenure under Jonathan didn't end well, she was borrowing to pay salaries before she left. She left a Nigeria that was in recession. Nigeria is not in recession so it is South Africa that is in recession she can help for now.

But you should have added Atiku Abubakar to your list. Insha Allah he will be our next president. When Atiku becomes president he will recruit capable hands to manage our economy.
