That was then..look the date? That was when i bought it newly from a Nigerian who lacked maintenance culture, i never really understood the car then too,but later turn it to a super car after going through school of hard self sacrifice study and gained tremendous experiences, and obtain a PHD, not only on her but also on her successsors and predecessors.

Now i smell Benz and eat Benz. I DIY it all the way... . To crown it all, the said car is in top shape now doing motoring all the way; 500% better than when first bought, and doesn't even cough anymore.. fully loaded with all the needful accessories, everything sorted out to factory settings and much more.

Dont worry brother, these guys are abound everywhere now, just look out for a heavily loaded mechanic community , like mechanic village etc, just ask the alignment guys there who does blacksmith good and thorough, a testimony from one or two witnesses should confirm the right techi for you. Then you've got it. After giving it a trial you shall be convinced, that Benz isn't that expensive to maintain as people speculate. that you could be on budget and maintain a Benz.

I drive mine very hard too..i guess it might be harder than you do..Many Benz enthusiast drive her hard as this. Where is "GEE"?.. Dont baby your Benz, if you dont want to start having nuzzle issues and all manner of tulip valve issues and so on and so forth. Take it out once in a while or always and drive da hail out of da machine

Eyop: auhanson, what type of private Scanner will you recommend for a W204 Mercedes Benz user?

My brother , the STAR scanner is still the best way to go, because it has a heap of comprehensive faults it can read both in the interior can bus,gear box, ac and so on. You know Mercedes can be very thorough with their stuff, though these could be too handed and dear for our pocket.

However, i use the very cheap but versatile Autel MaxiScan MS509 Car Diagnostic fault code reader tool / OBDII & OBD Scanner that Works for MOST Cars & Vehicles. It does OBDII AND MB CODES, That's just enough for me and my friends, though i hadly use it any more for quite a while now as my MB "no dey spoil again".

cne010: If you're in Lagos just find your way to trinity in apapa around Berger the gear shouldn't be more than 35k and the gear seller would find someone to fix it for your right there and if it requires programming all will be sorted out. Repairing costs more sometimes.

Dont waste money to repair auto gearbox, just find money and replace it , else you will regret at the end

Besides , do we really need the 4matics? why do buy into components that you dont even have need of? A rear wheel cruiser benz has enough power and handling to take you anyway, cut the spending and assume better economy by avoiding the 4matics.

I prefer the C350 because it's a Naturally aspirated engine,more power and fuel economy is fantastic almost like a 4 cylinder engine. If i can get all of that in a 6 cylinder,i think it makes more sense for me to stick with the C350. As for the VW and AUDI,i am never a fan of it so i don't know anything about those brands.

Also, the c250 though delivers better economy, and better horsepower than most of the rival 4 cylinder of same capacity 1.8litre engines, it is turbo packed to assume such feats. A c250 can deliver an amazing 200 and something horsepower with a reasonable fuel economy squeezed from a 1.8 litre 4 cylinder trubo packed engine with an acceleration of 0-60 mph(100km/h) in 7.20 sec.

Come to think of it, the 2014 CLA45 AMG version, a[b] 4 cylinder[/b] engine delivers an impressive 355 hp with a very decent fuel economy of 23/31 (city/Hwy). this is unheard of in any 4 cylinder engine,combining such performance and economy of such magnitude. A 2.0litre I4, 16 valves engine.

Am interested in this person u are talking about however there is no bridge opposite benz affairs. The only recognisable facility there is a newly completed Mobil filling station. Do u have further accurate details about this person in question?

Sometimes when we explain things, in a bid to quickly go away, we assume that the guy overthere could just figure it out..sorry about that my brother.. By that i meant the bridge by Eliosu junction, by your right handside, immediately after the bridge as if you are going to stadium road, pause by the filling station just by it and turn right through a narrow road. Continue along that road(not a very impressive road to drive) and take your left turn, by the left of your left turn , you will be greeted by all sort of manner of Benz ranging from coupe to sedan to suv's and cuv's awaiting attention, by now no Angel will tell you that this is the guy. He drives in a w202 Blueblack Benz . He is a young guy with pair of lenses and usually on boots, i hadly interacted with him else i would have known his name, was just turn off by the "appointment issues". Funny enough i dnt even know the name of the street, but this description will take you there right on spot.

I took a friend there and just drop him off, when a local mechanic boy interchange his battery terminals(swap positive to negative) and kickstarted his W203, wrecking all sort of havoc to the already overloaded car electricals fuses and relays and what have you. He corrected it and sorted out things well with the MB standards, he even went a step further to correct all the bypassed usually done by the local mechanics on that car and went a step further to correct the cooling system to standard but made it compliance to our local weather as well as installing compatible sets of radiator condenser and compressor to work as appropriate using factory settings.

The name of the place is Benz affairs.

Infact, opposite that place too under the bridge, after the filling station, there is another guy who broke out from the Benz affairs. He knows his onions well , he use to fix my friends s class and all types and manner of Benz with complete set of diagnostic tools and good sense of Benz electricals, his bills are even moderate compair to Benz affairs, but he has a serious problem of keeping to appointment. if you can tolerate that, then you are good to go with him.

shoppyanno: The rust issue seems to be common as I also have some rust patches by the drivers door of mine.

Rusting in Benz scares a lot of people, even auto professionals , but i bet you , its isn't a big deal. The secret of rusting in Benz is washing them and rinsing out regularly with water, mopping out the wetness(including all the cleavages and hideout) to dryness. With these, you will never experience rust affected areas in your Benz.

When you first bought your Benz, deal with the rusting hideout first, by thoroughly sanding out and respraying just these areas, then follow them up with the advice above and you will never relate your Benz with rust anymore. My first Benz for 8 years now before the recent accident, never had a single rust in any of the hide out because of this practice. Same with my recent Benz, of course i'm not expecting any rust too wit this formular, and she is always neat.

That's true Bro, never go near the 12k own , it doesn't last 3 months if your road is as bad as mine.

Also, if your original ones get bad you can rework them to last almost forever if you can locate a good engineering shop and guide the techi on exactly what you need- but u got to do the math with him concerning the diameter and circumference(don't leave him alone on this) , that's the secret guys uses these days, if you wouldn't want to spend such huge amount in replacing them next time. I bet you, you wouldn't even know that it has been reworked, our boys are very good in reworking mechanical components to last. Mind u, auto gearbox isn't inclusive in this claims.

When I experienced this with my Honda accord upon changing the batteries, I did nothing and after 2-3 hours of driving, the lights came on. I was told by my electrician that the DRL did not come on immediately because the battery was new and not fully charged.

I want the house to clarify if this scenario can apply to a Mercedes Benz before I decide next course of actions.

Hello Chilla, i beg to differ with your electrician, what could have happened there was that either the fuse that controls the DRL wasn't properly seated or had a loose contact, as you drove over a distance probably u cud have hit one or two pothole or had a kind of jerk that brought everything in place and gave you a proper contact that made it start to work.

For your ML case, i would advice that you check the specific fuse that controls your DRL and try to make sure that it has a firmer contact with the seating and be sure that the fuse is not blown too. Goodluck

Why don't they just let us be and think of better things ahead before copying this gimmicks from the organised society.What are we going to do with all the Benz's, Bm's and the super cars? limit their speed?They should provide racing tracks for boys; install surveillance cameras; have a database of all Nigerians with thumbprint and vehicles, to curb crimes before denying us our fun life. We even have thick skin than anywhere else in the world and strives success in the worst environmental conditions. A petrolhead looks at "road handling" or "overall character" of a car at whatever speed it does. That's what makes a car fun to drive; that's what makes a car safer when driven aggressively.

A fastest car must not win a race. More hp is an advantage and will be more "Wow!" when a road handler got one.

Its not all bout HP, but its about safety and enough galant to twist bends and max out without heartbreak swivelling and waving(a thing i cant stand in a car no matter what) and ability to stop abruptly as situation arose. Handling is the game, a car without handling is no car to me.

Equipments and the required test to guarantee whatever mechanical installations done to an engine.eg,engine swapping, porting, stroker kits are done properly and won't break or blow up an engine.

Nigeria would get there and I know we would...We have some extremely bright and knowledgeable minds here.We just need Organization and proven outcome that the rest of us would trust and relate to...

jacksolo4me, boys aint that bad anymore in naija,we are great, believe me. Actually, if know what you want and how to get there and you guide them well , they will deliver to you. You wont go to the road side neither to the servicing giant, but simply pay a visit to a good spare part market , for instance like Ikoku in PH or "Alorji" in ABA(pls forgive my spelling). I f you went there , check inspect the market first you will marvel at wht you could see and the untapped skills that is available , then you could be convinced and negotiate your bills. They will marvell at your ideas and you will marvel at their skills.

Mechanically, i have taken a 1.8 litre 4 cylinder engine block to bore into a 2.3 diameter that could accommodate a 2.3 litre engine for bigger piston strokes to achieve a 2.3litre capacity performance. This was amazing, the chap was accurate with the diameter of the bore to fit accurately with the diameter of the standard 2.3 original piston strokes, rings and gasket bought from the market. It accommodated the rings and gasket perfectly without any need for refiling(what you need is a technician with accurate sense of measurement and carefulness to bore accurate hole for the engine piston storkes, and a good knowledge of your specific engine timing, the right size of the the rings and gasket with the metals and connecting rods. Well,to cut the long story short, the car became a 4 cylinder supersport sedan..though i may not know how much horsepower that has really achieved,except i start going into the calculation of that, but the performances and responses were just excellence, way too better than the previous engine and it wasn't that expensive to do. If i had money for low end turbo and superchargers , they could have installed it as well, and port the cylinderhead to compliment the intake manifo & exhaust modification to prevent excessive backward pressure. When i look at it, the cost of doing that could buy a whole fairly use high end vehicle(AMG)

I saw this car in PH with one young man ,precisely in UNIPORT, maybe coming to check out some chick, so i alighted my clean c class and complimented him ,he felt impress and gave me the ear, sensing from where am coming from after seeing my neat MB . When i started asking him how he was able to keep such ride over here , he confess to me that the ride is actually his Brother's who stays overs and comes ones in a while , that what he does is only to change oil as at when due , if he has a electrical issue that any good technician can handle it. Also, that the car doesn't give issues but performance.
