Politics / Dele Momodu Confesses, Nnamdi Kanu Blew Me Apart + Making Of The Interview by AuthenticNG: 12:57pm On Oct 31, 2020

Dele Momodu has confessed to how he feel over the interview he had with Nnamdi Kanu, Leader of Indigenous People Of Biafra IPOB.

In sharing The Making of the Interview with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu it reads:

Fellow Nigerians, let me start by thanking God for my unusual mindset. I’m also grateful to those who have mentored me in journalism.

I single out for mention here, one perfect gentleman in particular, Mr Mike Awoyinfa, who was my Editor at Weekend Concord from March 1989 to May 1990. He remains my Boss for life.

Awoyinfa introduced me to the words “scoop”, “world exclusive” “inside story”, exposé, and so on. He taught me how to search for, and get, uncommon stories. For any seasoned reporter, there is no orgasm sweeter than getting that story everyone is talking about.

It does not matter if someone somewhere would not like the story, but everyone must see or feel it ultimately. That is your goal, your holy grail!

I was fortunate to have met my first Boss, Mr Lewis Obi, who gave me a job instantly in 1988 at the African Concord magazine, owned by Chief Moshood Abiola. Obi had told me of his serious gift for identifying and hiring masters of prose above trained reporters.

For him, anyone can become a reporter, but not everyone can be a super writer.

A good writer can turn a tiny story into a masterpiece. Both of my Bosses, Obi and Awoyinfa, prepared me for my journey through the labyrinth of journalism.

I’m very passionate about special interviews and I do not discriminate once I smell some great news. And anything can trigger my interest in a particular subject or character. My interest in talking to our former Petroleum Minister, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, was the news of her arrest by the British Police in London.

While the Media world went gaga and published salaciously dramatic stories about her, I was interested in locating her and asking some of the burning questions on people’s minds. It didn’t matter if some people would feel offended and intolerant of this world exclusive.

Awoyinfa had taught me how to damn the man-made consequences and face my job squarely; that many of the attackers and detractors would later turn around to appreciate my efforts. This has been proven to be the case and has become a well-tested truism over time.

It was this same mindset that led me to MAZI NNAMDI KANU, the influential leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). My Sister-in-Law had forwarded an audio message to me in the heat of the #EndSARS protests.

The voice on the audio was clearly that of MAZI NNAMDI KANU, a man whose deification, and apotheosis, is possibly assured. Such is the adoring, and adulating manner and esteem of his people. He is obviously and passionately loved by them.

In the audio, he was firing instructions at some of his supporters. I was greatly alarmed and extremely uncomfortable. The motive was not clear to me. So rather than spread the audio without having the authentic story, I decided to seek him out. Journalists are like detectives.

I knew I had to identify someone close enough to know how to find him. My mind roamed at first far and wide, but almost immediately it set and fastened on the irrepressible Mr Femi Fani-Kayode. I called Fani-Kayode who promised to contact Kanu as soon as possible. He soon returned with a text message to my WhatsApp after he gave my contact to someone very close to MAZI NNAMDI KANU.

The gentleman established immediate line of communication with me. By the following morning, I received tentative approval to proceed but to allow a space of about two weeks. I responded that I needed the interview right away in view of the violence visited on

When King Solomon died, the people approached his Son Rehoboam to request that he lightens their burdens which was forced on them by his father. They promised to serve him if only he would grant them this one request.

However, after taking counsels, Rehoboam gave them an honest reply, “My father forced you to work hard, but I will make you work much harder! My father punished you with whips, but I will punish you with whips that have sharp metal tips.”

That reply, was in no way a gentle man’s response to a people who pledge their loyalty on the condition he treats them well as is expected of a good leader. But at least, he was honest with the people and it resulted in parting of ways.

In stark contrast however, Buhari came to power with so much promises which in truth, is nothing new as far as politics is concerned. It is not as if Nigerians were never deceived by politicians in the past, but the shear disapproval of Jonathan and calls for a change, can be likened with the case of King Rehoboam and his people.

Nigerians had felt Goodluck Jonathan was the Solomon of our time who performed so badly that the people wouldn’t mind the second coming of a President whose first rule didn’t last long due to what General Babangida (rtd) described as a regime that left Nigerians frustrated, and ripe for a coup.

Nigerians where hoping for a messiah in Buhari, despite his outrageous promises which we all know won’t make it beyond just, well, ‘promises’.

Less than two years into his administration, the President made London his second home as he battles for his life. Then, rumors surfaced that the Buhari Nigerians voted for in 2015, has died.

While in truth there wasn’t any significant stride by the administration before the President’s health deteriorated, his absence in the country and failure to allow his vice, Osinbajo, to fully take charge, was the moment the country began to go downhill and is yet to recover.

His health challenges then ushered in the age of the cabal who are said to be in charge, thereby relegating the vice president to Nothingness.

Now, with the cabal in charge, it no longer matters that the president made a pact with Nigerians. It no longer matters that it does much worse, the very same things it accused the Jonathan administration of doing. It no longer matters that what the masses are asking for, is different from what the government is offering.

The steep diversion in policies since Buhari lost control of his government to the cabal, has all the more, support the claim that the Buhari in charge today, is different from the one who despite his failing health, went about campaigning and promising Nigerians “Change” prior to 2015 elections.

How can the Buhari of 2015 be alive, and fuel now sells for N160 and not N40? How can the Buhari of 2015 be alive, and instead of creating millions of new jobs annually, millions of jobs were lost instead? How can the Buhari of 2015 be alive, and Naira is valued at N470 to a dollar? How can the Buhari of 2015 be alive, and Boko Haram, which he promised to end within months of taking over power, is still very much alive and strong? How can the Buhari of 2015 be alive, and Nigerians are struggling to feed even once a day? How can the Buhari of 2015 be alive, and corruption moves around freely with dollars stuffed in baban rigas, with thieves boldly vying to succeed him in 2023?

How can the Buhari of 2015 be alive, and the economy now survives on borrowings? How can the Buhari of 2015 be alive and instead of easing the sufferings of the people, government would rather hike the prices of fuel and electricity? In addition to squeezing every last penny in the possession of Nigerians through dubious means or policies?

How can a living President not feel the pains of even his 97 percent whom he said would be his top most priority? How can a living President sleep at night when tears of injustice continue to flood the streets of Nigeria? How can a living President demands that people pay more in utility bills and fuel, when there are no jobs nor are they able to earn enough to even feed their own families?

Surely, only a dead President would be this heartless because, well, a dead man feels nothing. There is just so much wrong with this administration to not realize it is lifeless.

Whether or not the man voted in 2015 is still alive and in charge, unless the lives of the masses begins to matter in its policy decisions, I am inclined to agree that the current government is by no means of the living, but of the dead. This is true because no living conscience would be as heartless as what we currently have in power.

Politics / Aisha Buhari, Gambari, Malami, Others Wars Over New Choice Of EFCC Chairman by AuthenticNG: 12:28am On Sep 05, 2020
The Presidency of Nigeria situated in Aso Rock Presidential Villa seems to be in war over new choice of Economic and Financial Crime commission Chairman.

Recall that EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu was arrested by the Department of State Service and forewith was  Suspended Nigerias strongest man, the President Muhammadu Buhari.

Although Mohammed Umar replaced Ibrahim Magu as EFCC Acting Chiarman the search for the Authentic Chairman of the commission is in place and has left the Nigeria seat of power (the Presidential Villa) in shambles.

Indications at the Presidency may have closed any hope of recalling the suspended acting chairman of the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, a Commissioner of Police (CP).

In order to justify his suspension, Malami instituted a probe panel headed by retired Justice Ayo Salami. Magu is being accused of sharp practices while he held sway at EFCC. But Magu is accusing his accusers of exercising
vendetta, on him claiming innocence.

Discrete investigations authoritatively revealed that the Director of Operations Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mohammed Umar, who on July 10, 2020 was directed by the Presidency to act in the stead of Magu may eventually be redeployed out of the commission.

Subsequently, the Presidency is still scouting for a more credible officer to head the agency.

But various interest groups at Aso Rock are said to be at loggerheads on who to recommend to President Muhammadu Buhari for the plum job. The internal logjam may prolong the announcement of who to head the commission.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami is said to have his choice of candidate.

However, the Chief of Staff to the president,

The Nigerian Senate has revealed how the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) management shared approximately N5 billion for “medicals”.

This is contained in a report by the Ad-hoc committee which probed the multi-billion Naira scandal in NDDC.

Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi (APC – Ekiti North) chaired the committee.

Senators Abdulfatai Buhari (APC – Oyo North); Chukwuka Utazi (PDP – Enugu North); Ibrahim Hadeija (APC – Jigawa North); Biobarakuma Wangaha (APC – Bayelsa East); Jika Dauda Haliru (APC – Bauchi Central); and Mohammed Tanko Almakura (APC – Nasarawa South) were members.

Politics / Wike Signs ₦300 Billion Revised 2020 Budget by AuthenticNG: 3:37pm On Aug 03, 2020
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has signed into law the revised 2020 Appropriation Bill.

This followed the presentation of the Budget by the Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Martin Amaewhule, to him at Government House, Port Harcourt.

Total figure of the revised budget for 2020 fiscal year signed by the Governor is N300,370,071,183.33 Billion.

It is a 48 percent reduction from the N530,813,357,619.00Billion originally budgeted for spending.

Governor Wike said the unfortunate effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in Nigeria, necessitated the review.

The implication of the review of the budget, according to him, is that budgetary allocations including capital and recurrent expenditure have been reduced.

However, this, he said, will not affect the delivery of quality developmental projects and services to Rivers people.

"It is most unfortunate that everybody is living a different life now because of the pandemic, which calls for us to face the economic reality.

"The COVID-19 has affected economic activities and revenues of government, and so it became necessary to review our budget.

"By the revised budget, it means that so many things have to change. We have cut down the capital and recurrent expenditure to face the reality.

"We are the only State that has not cut down the salaries of political appointees and elected officers . Virtually all the States have cut down 20 to 30 percent of salaries of political appointees. Having cut down the recurrent expenditures , the overhead will no longer be the same", he said.

The Governor also stated that his administration is determined to ensure that the proposed reconstruction of the Assembly Quarters stands the test of time

"One thing I can assure you is that we are working with Julius Berger Nigeria PLC to reconstruct the Assembly Quarters. We want something that will stand the test of time.

"A good living environment and quality houses will enhance your input and services to our State," he stated.

The Governor promised to release the balance of funds for the 2018 constituency projects of the legislators.

Also speaking, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Martin Amaewhule said the Rivers state revised Appropriation Law No. 7 of 2020 is intended to make provision of services to fall into current reality.

"The House passed this Bill and it is intended to provide for a Law to revise the Rivers State Appropriation Law No. 12 of 2019 to make provision for services of Rivers State for the year ending on the 31st of December 2020.

"Against the approved figures of sum-N530,813,357,619.00 Billion which the House approved in 2019, as a result of the prevailing economic circumstances of the country , the House now approved a total sum of N171,33,409,454.55 billion for capital expenditure.

For the recurrent expenditure, N129,336,662,028.77 billion bringing a total of N300,370,071,183.33 Billion," he added.

In his remarks, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani noted that governor Wike has conscientiously implemented policies and programmes to benefit Rivers people.

He said the revIsed budget and revised medium term expenditure framework stipulate actions of government to better the fortunes of the state and establish enduring legacy for posterity.
