Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State on Tuesday night denied subjecting his wife, Mrs. Clara Chime, to house arrest and has vowed to protect her from being exposed to ridicule. Chime made this denial in the presence of some journalists, his wife and her elder brother, Mr. Tony Igwe. Also present were the governor’s siblings, Mrs. May Oji and Dr. Jide Chime, as well as Mrs. Chime’s neuro-psychiatric doctor, Dr. Aham Agumuo, among a few others. At the interview session, the governor’s wife denied sending any petition to the National Human Rights Commission alleging unlawful detention by her husband. She also denied hiring the services of Mr. Femi Falana to seek her freedom from an alleged house arrest at the Governor’s Lodge, Enugu. Falana had claimed in his letter to media houses and the Inspector-General of Police that he was engaged by the governor’s wife to seek her freedom from alleged house arrest. The state governor, however, stated that it was “so disturbing” for him to speak out publicly about his wife’s health challenges. He vowed to do all within his power, no matter the personal pains, to protect her from ridicule. “Well, my wife has some medical challenges and it would be very unkind for me to talk about her condition on the pages of newspapers. “I have done everything to protect her integrity and I’m not now going to expose her to ridicule because some people want to exploit her situation to drag me into a needless war of words,” Chime said. www.punchng.com/news/im-protecting-my-wife-from-ridicule-chime/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter |
otokx: This is a satanic lie; road that i passed 3 weeks ago. No work done at all in Bayelsa and the flooding is a massive challenge. Instead of SETRACO to channel the water elsewhere they are just dredging and dumping sand only for mother nature to swallow it up. Work on the bridges are on going but slow. This work can't be finished by 2019 even if they work 24 hours. Its like trying to dig a dry hole in the ocean.I would have appreciated it if you picked out the specific sections as listed by the reporter and prove his "satanic lie" by providing valid contrary evidence... |
HNosegbe: Meanwhile, what's up with the PIB?You know that's not their priority..don't you? |

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Akwa Ibom State Command, has arrested a Power Holding Company of Nigeria service manager and eight others for allegedly engaging in illegal poles planting and cables theft. The eight men were said to have been nabbed following a tip-off from residents that some vandals were tampering with the PHCN installations at Nung Oku in Ibesikpo/Asutan Local Government Area. It was learnt that the service manager, Ibesikpo/Asutan LGA’s PHCN office was arrested for alleged complicity in the crime. The command’s head, Public Relations/Protocol, Mr. Ime White, told PUNCH Metro in Uyo on Monday that following the tip-off, the state commandant of the agency, Mr. Pedro Ideba, quickly mobilised patrol teams to the area. He explained that the command’s prompt action was also necessitated by the fear that if the vandals were quacks, they could be electrocuted. White said following the arrest of the suspects, the command impounded the truck they were using, which had PHCN label indicating that the vandals were from the Port Harcourt district. He noted that investigation, however, revealed that though the vandals posed as PHCN workers, none had ever worked with the parastatal. He added that NSCDC had impounded feeder cables, insulators, ladder and other working tools recovered from the suspects. He said, “We discovered a purported contract of transplanting poles being undertaken by one Jenkins International Limited. “It was the duty of the service manager, PHCN, Ibesikpo/ Asutan LGA, to have notified the Uyo District of such jobs, but that did not happen. “Upon the arrest of the suspects, we discovered that the truck they were using had PHCN label that has to do with metering project of Port Harcourt district and not Akwa Ibom. Although they posed as PHCN workers, we discovered that none of them worked with the company. Feeder cables, insulators, ladders and other working tools, were all impounded here.” He stated that when the command contacted Uyo office of the PHCN to verify if there was any contract they gave to Jenkins International Limited, the office denied knowledge of such deal. www.punchng.com/metro/phcn-manager-others-arrested-for-alleged-cable-theft/ |

This action by the so called Airline Operators reinforces my belief that Stella is been "lynched" because she has changed the old order as regards the aviation sector.. |
The crisis buffeting Nigeria’s troubled aviation industry escalated on Sunday with Nigerian airlines announcing that they will no longer pay any money to aviation agencies until the sector is rid of corruption and corrupt people. Stella Oduah, Nigeria’s embattled aviation minister, testified before the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation on 31 October following revelations that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, bought two BMW bullet-proof cars for her at the hefty sum of N255 million. Oduah denied allegations against her and put all blame on others, but documents show she approved the purchase of the expensive cars that were not budgeted for and that were beyond her approval limit of N100 million. The Airline Operators of Nigeria, AON, announced on Sunday that Nigerian carriers have stopped remitting all fees to aviation agencies because of the gargantuan corruption rocking the sector. The remittances of aviation charges stopped on 1 November, said Mohammed Tukur, who spoke on behalf of the airlines. Tukur said the airlines stopped remitting any money to the NCAA, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA,the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, and other relevant aviation bodies to protest against the rot in the sector. He warned that Nigerian airlines may also ground their operations if nothing is done to ‘clean up’ the sector. “Due to the ongoing crises, we have resolved to stop the remittances of all charges, both current and outstanding debts to the agencies, pending the time they reform or come clean on the taxes and charges they have collected which runs into several billions of naira,” Tukur said on behalf of Nigerian airlines. The airlines argued that while aviation charges have continued to skyrocket, the money paid has continued to be misused by the aviation ministry and agencies to buy expensive cars. Consequently, AON called on the federal government to intervene in the astronomical charges imposed on Nigerian airlines. “The suspension of payment of taxes, charges took effect from November 1, 2013. We call on the Federal Government and all concerned to set up investigative panel to resolve these anomalies,” Tukur said. The airlines have been struggling with numerous charges, including landing and parking charges, remittance of five per cent taxes on every ticket sold, fuel tax, multiple navigational charges, airport tax as well as very expensive office spaces among other numerous taxes. The $3000 and $4000 newly introduced by the NCAA for charter operators with Nigerian registered aircraft paying $3000 and foreign registered charter operator parting with $4000 for a single take-off and landing. Analysts say the numerous charges imposed on airlines are eventually passed on to Nigerian travellers who pay expensive air fairs for poor services. The carriers expressed disappointment with obsolete infrastructure dotting the nation’s airports and epileptic navigational tools that many say have contributed to air crashes and serious air incidents in the country. Tukur said AON was studying the involvement of two of its members with the reported BMW car scam and may be sanctioned them if found culpable. The House of Representative Committee on Aviation probing the alleged scam had fingered an airline operator (name withheld) for its involvement in the procurement of the two limousine cars allegedly acquired for Oduah. Beyond Nigeria, it was learnt that an international organisation has written the government to express concerns over safety issues in the Nigerian aviation sector as well as the loss of independence of the country’s aviation regulatory body-the NCAA. This has further heightened the fear that Nigeria may lose its coveted Category One aviation safety status granted the country four years ago by the United States Federal Aviation Administration, FAA. pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/11/03/nigerias-aviation-corruption-airlines-stop-payment-of-charges/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PmNewsNigeria+%28PM+News+Nigeria%29 |

Good step in the right direction..another way of tackling the Boko Haram menace from its roots because we all know military approach is not the only solution. Northerners ruled this country for decades yet they have the highest number of out of school kids...and yet this kids will be the one chanting the elites name and will even get to vote them for no just reason other than been from my tribe ..very pathetic |
Mr Aboki: In fairness, work had started generally on the East- west road a long time ago with significant progress achieved. But the Eleme part had not been touched. The road there was still bad. That entire road is being constructed by RCC and I know it like the back of my hand. But the work picked up 'extra-ordinary pace' around Petro chemical area which leads into Okrika just for this funeral. They even took it as far as Eleme junction. Thanks for the explanation...we really need to stop this eye service thing,it can never help us to grow |
Mr aboki when exactly did work pick-up in this Eleme axis you are talking about and when was it finished? Does that Eleme road lead to Okirika?..I want to understand how exactly it is connected to the PEJ's mum burial |
President Goodluck Jonathan in Lagos on Friday said that the Federal Government would soon commence a 10-year tax holiday for local tyre manufacturers. Jonathan made the declaration at the opening ceremony of the 2013 Lagos International Trade Fair. Represented by Mr Olusegun Aganga, the Minister of Trade and investment, Jonathan said the tax holiday was part of the commitment of the government to its new automobile policy. The president said that the value chain on key automobile products like metals, iron ore, plastic, and tyres would also be improved. “In terms of product development, you need tyres. Michelin and Dunlop died many years ago because of poor government policy. We are bringing them back. “The policy for tyre, part of the problem was that some of the tyres were brought in at 10 per cent, while some are 20 per cent and 40 per cent. “Anybody that goes into tyre production like Michelin and others will start bringing in tyres at 5 per cent based on the level of commitment to produce tyres locally. “They will not pay tax for the next five to 10 years. “Also to promote the automobile sector, we are making investments in the petrochemical sector. “Last month, Mr Aliko Dangote announced an investment of nine billion dollars on a petro-chemical plant. “The plant will offer an immediate employment to 8,000 engineers, and then a subsequent 85,000 workers. “It is also needful to diversify the economy, despite our plans for the petroleum sector,” he said. The president also said that adequate measures would be provided to support the annual trade fair and make it bigger to boost the real sector. He said he had taken necessary legal steps to reverse the full concession of the trade fair complex. THE crisis dogging the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may have become more interesting with a remark by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that a plan to split the embattled party had remained in the works for four months. In an interview in his Abuja home with a team of journalists from Rariya, a Hausa newspaper based in Abuja, Atiku also spoke on the situation of things in the ‘new PDP.’ Atiku, who had led a withdrawal of a number of governors from the venue of a recent PDP convention, claimed that “we have been planning for some time because we have spent almost four months planning how to split the PDP.” The former number two man in the country said that he decided to join the plan because the reasons of the sponsors aligned with his long-standing grouse about the situation of things in the party. “At first, I didn’t know the arrowhead, but they eventually came and met me and I joined them because their reasons are the same with the ones I have been fighting against within the party — lack of fairness, honesty and tyranny. If I can fight the military to restore democracy, why can’t I fight fellow politicians?” he said. According to him, his faction of the party had appealed the decision of the courts declaring it illegal. “We have appealed and we are planning seriously. You will see what will happen,” he said. Responding to a question on the reason some chieftains of the party took offence to the purported ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan to seek re-election in 2015, especially since the president had not categorically expressed his interest in another term in office, Atiku said,“he did (say that he would run) since he said he had the right to run. What else is remaining?” Atiku was, however, silent on whether or not he would run for the presidency in the next general election. “Why are you in a hurry? Don’t worry, it is not yet the time for you to know,” he said. In the meantime, the Turakin Adamawa denied being in the know of any plans of the newly registered Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), declaring that “I am not a member.” PDM is believed to belong to Atiku’s associates and those of the former Chief of General Staff, the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua. www.tribune.com.ng/news2013/index.php/en/component/k2/item/25348-we-planned-for-4-months-to-split-pdp-atiku.html |
