taharqa2: *yawns*.... An Article on an Economy that intends to show that that Economy is 'Broke/dead' without using a SINGLE Economic parameter (Inflation rate, Foreign Reserves, Exchange Rate, FDI inflows, Capacity Utilization, Balance of Payments, Balance of Trade, Growth of NonOil sector, Stock Market Index, International Ratings, Growth or otherwise of Capital to Private Sector, GDP, GDP per Capital, etc etc) to argue that supposedly 'clear' point about the Economy, BUT rather bases its entirely argument upon 'opinions' purportedly expressed by 3 'highly placed Govt officials' (called 'sources' ) who are of course conveniently left ANONYMOUS!! ......Of course none of those Economic Parameter can be used if one wants to pen concortions like this and hookwick sm small nos of WEAK minds, since Every single one of those Parameters show an Economy in d exact direction to d one the writer(s) of this article want it to be. Talk about reasoning backwards, confidently!!!Good one bruv!!..continue to lecture these group of individuals whom God in his infinite mercies have given functional brain cells but sadly they have chosen not to use it..we will keep lecturing till it sinks into their thick skulls... |

Symphony007: before this bridge there are already roads leading to ibeno, it is not like this bridge is a saving life line for them, i seriously doubt the correctness of your 40% figure but majority if not all oil gotten by shell in the niger delta is sent to the bonny oil terminal for onward export abroad but that same bonny does'nt have a single link road to port harcourt, travelers in 2013 still have to ply a dangerous sea to get to the island. Go google bonny island and ibeno and tell me economically, who is more important.Read this report from one of Simon Kolawole's columns on THISDAY.. awodman: Today’s discussion is motivated by a report I read recentlySource:www.thisdaylive.com/articles/made-in-nigeria-enjoyed-worldwide/149788/ I hope you now see how important this bridge is.. |
omonnakoda: He read the report and does not believe it. He thinks it is bull5hit! Do you get ??Well your concerns are noted..but for them to come out bold and make this claim public they definitely know what they are in ƒσя... Let's wait till September... |
dolphinife: I guess this minister of aviation is suffering from diarrhea of the mouth. She just open her mouth wide and start spitting rubbish.Did you read this part of the report?..if you actually did you will see that all your concerns was answered by this paragraph... “We are just waiting for the approval from presidency and the Federal Executive Council (FEC), to take off, so give or take, the new national carrier will take off before the end of the third quarter.” Besides, the final approval from presidency and FEC, she added that every other thing was there, including the the legal framework establishing the national carrier. “We are awaiting the final approval from FEC and the presidency to roll out the carrier,” Oduah stated. |

While I share most of the skepticism expressed here,I think we should give the current Minister of Aviation some benefit of doubt..this is what Sнε has to say on that.. awodman: “When we started, there were a lot of skeptics who saidLastly 3 front page materials in 2 days?!!...abeg folow me thank God.. |
PapaBrowne: While I think you are doing a great job ma, I think a national carrier is ill conceived especially if it is intended to be a Government owned company. As at the last check, no business owned by government ever works so there is no reason why a national carrier would be an exception.I guess you didn't read the article very well..I think it is a PPA thing..read the paragraphs below .. “This national carrier that we are talking about is supposed to be private sector driven, government is only providing the legal and other framework, and the enabling environment for the carrier to take off.” “This one will be private sector-driven, will be managed by professionals who managed other carriers elsewhere in the world, and don’t forget that since it is going to be private sector-driven with private sector funds, there is no private sector corporate entity that will put in so much money in setting up a capital intensive business like aero plane business and will now leave it to mediocres to manage." |
The Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah, Tuesday assured Nigerians that the proposed National Carrier, would commence operations before the end of September. According to her, all the necessary framework and legal requirements for the smooth roll out of the carrier are already in place. She said: “Well, I think that everything we need to do for the carrier to take off is in place.Source:www.thisdaylive.com/articles/oduah-national-carrier-to-commence-operations-in-september/151580/ |

"Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, said on Monday that the Federal Government had awarded the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to Messrs Julius Berger and RCC Construction firms." dont allow hatred consume you |
Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, said on Monday that the Federal Government had awarded the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to Messrs Julius Berger and RCC Construction firms. He said the Lagos-Sagamu portion of the road was awarded to Julius Berger, while the Sagamu-Ibadan was awarded to RCC. According to him, the Lagos to the Sagamu interchange end of the road will be expanded to three lanes on either side, while the portion from the interchange to Ibadan will have the existing two lanes reconstructed. Onolememen stated this while inspecting the Benin-Sagamu Expressway in company with top ministry officials and journalists. The minister did not give the cost of reconstructing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and other details like the duration of the project. He noted that there were 30,000 kilometers of roads across the country but that the Ministry of Works lacked enough funds to execute the reconstruction of the failed portions. The minister however assured Nigerians that the ongoing reconstruction of the Benin-Ore end of the expressway would be completed and inaugurated before the end of the year while work would start immediately on the Ore-Sagamu end of the road. He explained that both Julius Berger and RCC had mobilised men and materials to site and that they had both pledged to start construction works immediately. The minister said the Benin – Ore contract was awarded in October last year and that the contractors had made appreciable progress. He said, "The project is put at about 20 percent completed which is very impressive considering the fact that they only had just four months of dry season to work. "This is not a friendly weather for road construction work; we hope that with the coming of the next dry season, the contractors would be able to accelerate the completion of the road. "We want to the Benin to Ore this year so that Nigerians can see what we have done. Many people thought it won't happen but it is a reality. "Our goal is to achieve a brand new road from Sagamu to Benin and now with the award of the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway, by the time the project is completed, we will marry the two together which is hundreds of kilometres of roads in an unbroken chain. "This will make travelling from one point of the country to another very pleasurable." On the report of the House of Representatives Committee on Works which indicted some contractors for allegedly executing shoddy jobs, the minister said, "We have standards and most of the roads the committee complained about are old projects and since we came on board, we set up a full department for material detecting and quality control and we have been able to discover quite a number of shoddy jobs for which we are no longer paying." source:http://mobile.punchng.com/output.php?link=http://www.punchng.com/news/lagos-ibadan-expressway-contract-awarded-to-berger-rcc/ |
Freedom of expression is the right of every citizen of a democratic nation. Well, i guess Nigeria is not a democracy yet.
So freedom of expression includes writing outright falsehoods and forging a presidential seal??.. If the journalists are innocent let them prove it in court.. |
Ishsoph: With this kinda accidents recorded within a space of 2 days NRC should know that there is something they are not doing well and get their act together. They should mount all the necessary road signs, place their field workers at strategic places or even make them inspect the railway track b4 the train takes off. Above all they should create a jingle that will be played constantly on radios and televisions to jolt the mind of road user whom (not their fault anyway) has not come to the realization that NRC is back and operational, so as to be at alert and mindful of the tracks that intersect the main roads.I adopt your post..great advice!!..I hope NRC is reading |
Clearly Nigerian railway Corporation has to step up their game..the reports are not too inspiring.. Just check out this account from a THISDAY reporter.. |
The presidency is not yet done with Leadership newspapers over the publication in the April 3, 2013 edition of the newspaper of a purported “Bromide of the Presidential Directive” with the logo of the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which the presidency described as a forgery. One month after the federal government dropped its charges against the newspapers, the federal government’s prosecutor, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), on June 19 filed new charges, comprising 11 counts before an Abuja High Court. Included in the charge is a proof of evidence, which includes a list of witnesses and statements made by the accused persons. The case has been assigned to Justice Usman Musale sitting at Kubwa Division of the court. Justice Musale granted the prosection leave to prefer the new charges last Wednesday. A copy of the charges obtained by THISDAY showed that the Leadership journalists will be arraigned on Thursday, June 27. Those charged are the news editor, Mr. Tony Amokeodo; political reporter; Mr. Chibuzor Ukaibe; and the Leadership Group Limited. The same persons were last month charged before a Federal High Court but were discharged following an application to withdraw the charges. The charges were apparently withdrawn because the Federal High Court was not the proper forum to have charged them. However, the federal government has increased the charges from six counts to 11 in the fresh charges. Some of the offences with which they were charged ranged from conspiracy to commit felony, forgery, making false documents and dishonestly using a false document as genuine. However, there are also new charges including the attempt to excite feelings of disaffection against the person of the president through the false document published in Leadership newspaper. The offence is said to be punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code Act. They were also charged with the intent to cause alarm among the public whereby members of the public may be induced to commit an offence against public peace and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code Act. Count 11 reads: “That you Tony Agboola Amokeodo, Chibuzor Ukaibe on or about the 3rd day of April 2013 at Abuja within the Federal Capital Territory under the jurisdiction of this honourable court did commit an offence to wit: Having in your possession without lawful excuse a document titled ‘Presidential Directive’, the publication of which is capable of exciting feelings of disaffection against the person of the president and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 419 of the Penal Code (Northern States) Federal Provision Act, Laws of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.” Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court had last month discharged the journalists and also struck out the six-count charge following the federal government’s notice of withdrawal/discontinuance of the criminal charges against the newspaper, Amokeodo and Ukaibe. Before government withdrew the charges, the journalists through their lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, had filed a notice of preliminary objection to the charges filed against Leadership and the journalists. Falana had said the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the suit. He argued that the charges brought against the accused persons related only to forgery and not to any loss of revenue by the federal government. Arguing that the court lacked the jurisdiction to try the accused persons, Falana said: “In the instant case, the charge brought against the accused persons discloses no loss of revenue by the federal government to cloth the Federal High Court with the jurisdiction to entertain same.” Source:www.thisdaylive.com/articles/fg-files-fresh-charges-against-leadership-journalists/151468/ |

Nobody died from the accident. A Lagos bound train from Kano, on Monday, derailed after it collided with a stationary truck on the rail track, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt. Four passengers were injured in the accident which occurred at Bakin Kasuwa Village in Kaduna State. “No lives were lost. The four people who were injured had been taken to the hospital by the FRSC,” David Ndakotsu, Assistant Director, Public Relations, Nigerian Railway Corporation, told PREMIUM TIMES on the phone. “It was an abandoned truck on the track that caused the accident,” Mr. Ndakotsu added. But a staff of the railway corporation who was aboard the train told PREMIUM TIMES that the truck was not stationary on the rail track. “The truck suddenly drove onto the track and you know that when a train applies brake, it doesn’t stop immediately. So it hit and dragged the truck and then derailed,” said the staff who did not want to be named. “Four coaches fell down, the track removed, and the locomotive moved out of the track,” he added. Four directors – comprising of directors of Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Operations, and Safety – have left Lagos Monday evening en route Kaduna, according to Mr. Ndakotsu. PREMIUM TIMES learnt that repairs on the train could last for over one week as some of the heavy equipment would have to be transported – by rail – to the scene of the accident. The passengers have been advised to seek alternative means of getting to their destinations, according to the railway staff. “Those that have small loads are free to go but those with heavy loads would have to ensure that their loads have been booked so that they can come to Iddo to collect them when the train returns,” he added. Last month, passengers on the Kano-Lagos route were stranded in Minna, Niger State, after the derailment of a cargo train at Kutuwongi Village in Mokwa Local Government Area. Reptyle: Abeg go and sit down somewhere jooor!!!! So now we should begin to celebrate that it was TCN that announced the drop in power supply. I don't know about you, but some of us have ALWAYS known there was a problem. Some of us refused to join in your celebration of marginal improvements as reported by this same TCN which never translated to improved supply...at least not in my area, Satellite Town, Ojo. I consistently begged y'all who were at the time celebrating phantom 24 hours of constant power in your area to share some "Magawatts" to those of us who live in the "rural areas" of Lagos and other States.K |

Gbawe: I don't care who is lying. It does not matter whether it is the news source or the quoted doctor. What is important is to show that Amosun never promised free healthcare. Free health care is only for children under 5 and adults over 70. When you work out the percentage of the population that applies to, in relation to all the inhabitants of Ogun State, then come back and speak. So it no longer matters since it now involves your dear ACN governor??..No probs...looking forward to what you will say when next Premium Times distorts facts as relates to GEJ's govt... |
gentle12: You are the number 1 enemy of this Govt. because you have deliberately, ignorantly or mischievously misrepresented the truth from your comments which is capable of misleading the Govt. on the way forward.for your information,we are paying for power that we never consumed, too bad for a Nation ,too bad for a Govt.and too bad for a complacent citizenrySeems you didn't even read the report...if you did you would have seen ωнεяε it was stated clearly that pipelines from Okoloma and Escravos was vandalized...did the report tell you that power plants are not functioning or damaged?? And even going further who even brought this information to public notice??..is not TCN?..they have come out to admit and openly tell you that there is a problem unlike in the past ωнεяε govt officials keep covering their lapses..I think you should commend them ƒσя been Sincere... |
