Gbawe: Nairaland. The land of functional illiterates. That in itself would not be bad if said illiterates were also not ignorant haters averse to basic research. Amosun has never promised "free healthcare" and I don't know why sadists are jubilating over the lies of either the doctors or the news source. There is no 'meat' for you sad scavengers here. Get a life.So you are saying PREMIUM TIMES IS LYING? |
egift: I see incompetence. You want to reap MEGAWATTS where you sow KiloWattsDon't quote me if you have got comprehension issues..guess you didn't even read the report...meanwhile let me help you out... "The company explained that the massive load shedding being experienced nationwide was caused by vandalism of two major gas pipelines supplying gas to eight power generating stations." “Also, the second vandalised gas pipeline from Escravos to Warri caused a cutback of 1,005MW in power generation from Egbin/AES power generating station, Olorunsogo, Omotosho and Geregu NIPP power generating plants.” |
I suspect Sabotage...pls govt should step up and secure its power facilities..the "Enemies" of this govt will stop @ notin to discredit it.. |

That is how Ledum Mitee complained about poor budgetary allocations and premium times now captioned their headline to be "JONATHAN ADMINISTRATION IS CRIPPLING OUR ACTIVITIES" www.nairaland.com/1320026/jonathan-administration-crippling-activities-neiti And as expected Gbawe and crew came dancing fully unclad..and Gbawe @ his best spewing 1980 long epistles... |
ba7man: The export of dried cassava chips as you pointed out i belive is the main reason there's what we can call a "boom" in Cassava. It was started under OBJ and its commendable that GEJ encouraged it further. But i still don't agree on the Cassava bread having such impact as you and @Sincere Nigerian are tryin to potray. Prices of bread simply went higher with the wheat tarrif increase and people still bought along. While I agree with you that cassava bread hasn't made much of an impact in the country, but u will agree with me that sometin no matter how small is going on...Remember its hard to change consumer choices..I was only taken aback when u said that "IT HAS NOTIN TO DO WITH GEJ"..am happen that you have given him his due credit.. |
ba7man: With all the big grammar exchanged by some posters on this thread, I still stand on the fact that Cassava Bread is NOT responsible for the Cassava boom. Who eats Cassava bread?? Why speak as if it has resulted in a fad that's taking over the country when i'm sure 95 percent of Nigerians haven't seen it, let alone eat it. OBJ encouraged people to grow it for export, they did and they are now reaping its benefits. GEJ had nothing to do with it.You would have done well if you stopped at asking who has eaten cassava bread...going ahead to say that cassava bread or any other initiative about utilizing cassava is not responsible for this smacks of high ignorance..a little reading through the article would ave saved u dis folly “The greater demand for cassava tubers by local industries coupled with high demand for cassava chips outside the country is responsible for the price increase." ...for your info major malls in Abuja sell breads made of cassava #fact...not giving GEJ and his current Agric minister the accolades they deserve on this project can only come from a hateful mind..for your info Nigeria Exported Dried cassava Chips to china last year and made good money out of it..the quoted above also confirms this.. |
Great news!!!...I remember hearing on Raypower's political platform that the Work will be flagged off officially on July 4th..this was stated by a Director in the works ministry who featured on the program.. He also said that BPP has issued a Certificate of No Objection to the contract seeking the reconstruction of ENUGU-PH expressway...meaning that in no distant time the contract will be awarded.. I can't wait to see the contractors mobilise to site and start working on this major roads.. |

sincerenigerian: You are a nonentity! Must you play politics with everything? Someone brought good news about 50% in polio eradication but you decided to politicize it and brought Tambuwal into it. Have you no shame?Go and create a unique ID for yourself and stop this impersonation...if you can do this on a public forum which doesn't add much gain to your life,it shows how much of a fraud you can be in real life... |
Nigeria remains one of the three countries where polio still exists. The World Health Organisation, WHO, and the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, said Nigeria recorded a 50 per cent decline in the number of polio cases in the second quarter of this year. Nigeria along with Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only three countries in the world where polio exists. This is contained in a statement signed and issued on Wednesday in Abuja by Geoffery Njoku, a Communication Specialist at UNICEF. “Nigeria is making progress toward the target of stopping polio. To date in 2013, Nigeria has reported a 50 per cent decline in the number of cases with 25 cases in nine states, compared to 54 cases in 10 states for the same period in 2012.’’ The statement noted that more than 60 per cent of the cases in 2013 occurred in the security-compromised areas of Borno and Yobe states which offered limited access to children for vaccination. It said that Nigeria’s polio programme had surged forward and was making progress as outlined by recent report of the global Independent Monitoring Board for polio eradication. “This is coupled with a substantive investment and efforts to improve routine immunisation, with the development of a new routine immunisation framework and the Save One Million Lives Initiative lead by the government of Nigeria.” It said that the number of un-immunised children through routine immunisation had declined in the past several months due to increased focus on improved routine services. “The WHO and UNICEF are committed to continue supporting the government of Nigeria in their effort to improve the well-being of women and children,’’ the statement added. I remember Nigeria been called MOU capital of the world(apologies @CFC FAN) ...MOU's that are never implemented..but here is one MOU down...Congrats Aganga..pls work assidously to bring other MOU's to see the light of the day... |
President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday performed a groundbreaking ceremony for the General Electric’s $1 billion service and manufacturing facility in Calabar, the Cross River State capital. The ceremony was sequel to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the federal government and General Electric in January. The MoU was signed by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, for the federal government, and the Global Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of GE, Mr. Jeff Emmelt, on behalf of the world’s renowned company. Jonathan, who was represented by Vice-President, Namadi Sambo, noted that the groundbreaking ceremony would not only boost the administration’s transformation agenda, it would also further strengthen the confidence in the Nigerian business environment by both local and foreign investors. He said it also confirmed the commitment of the federal government to revitalising the Nigerian economy within the lifetime of the current administration through policies and projects that would pave the way for increased production activities, job creation and wealth generation. In his remark, Aganga stated that the groundbreaking further demonstrated that the current administration was not just interested in investment commitments, but in monitoring the processes to the execution stage. He noted that GE had, over the past 125 years, swiftly evolved to seize new opportunities created by changes in technology and the economy as a frontline multi-business organisation. “It is therefore not surprising that the company has moved smartly to explore the favourable investment opportunities that abound in Nigeria. Today, the company is building new platforms in industries and markets with GDP growth that provide opportunities to apply acquired technology and management expertise to accelerate development and growth in both developed and emerging economies. “The decision made in recognising the potential of Nigeria becoming your base, where other African countries would be served, will give a greater opportunity to demonstrate your innovation capabilities and home grown solutions to other African countries’ problems,” he added. Aganga recalled that in 2009, GE signed a landmark country-to-company agreement with the federal government, aimed at forging a strategic partnership that would see the two parties working together on high growth opportunities and investment in support of Nigeria’s transformation objectives. He also noted that in 2012, as part of the country-to- company agreement, GE and the federal government signed three MoUs for the energy, healthcare and rail transportation sectors. The minister said: “Recently, precisely on 31st January, 2013, the nation recorded a milestone in its investment drive as the Federal Government of Nigeria and Messrs GE sealed an investment deal of $I billion dollars (N158 billion) on the establishment of a Best-in-class assembly in Calabar. “I signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU), which gave birth to this significant event on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria while the Global Chairmen and Chief Executive Officer of GE, Mr. Jeff Emmelt, led other top executives to sign on behalf of the company.” He said the investment, which involved $250 million capital expenditure and over $800 million incremental spending on local sourcing of goods and services, was expected to create 2,300 jobs and make Nigeria the regional hub for GE’s manufacturing service and renovation in Africa. Meanwhile, GE said it was investing in Nigeria to help the country realise its electricity and infrastructure agenda under Vision 20-20-20, Rice said the investment was in fulfillment of all the agreements the MoU which GE signed with the Federal Government of Nigeria stressing that the company was committed to helping the country provide stable public power supply and infrastructure for the citizens . Nigeria, he added, holds great potentials for GE being the largest market in Africa hence the project in Calabar was one of two of its kind in the world under its greenfield investment drive and promised to work round the clock so that the factory is completed on schedule for production to commence. The vice president said his firm will key into Nigeria’s local content policy by recruiting and training citizens of the country so that they fit into the corporation’s technology and work ethic noting that this was the policy of GE anywhere it has investment. The company hopes to start with 250 staff but the total staff projection on full operation is 2, 300. ‘’We will develop local content. The first thing we’ll do is to open a training centre here in Calabar. We will develop a workforce with strong capability and leadership skills. We chose Calabar because it is easy to figure out, has a serene environment and the state governor makes things easy for investors’’, he said. The Bank of Agriculture has signed an agreement with the Agriculture Ministry. The Bank of Agriculture is collaborating with six tractor companies in Nigeria to procure 400 tractors and other farming implements for mechanised farming. The Managing Director of the bank, Mohammed Santuraki, stated this on Friday in Kaduna when he visited one of the tractor companies, Tak Continental Limited. He said that the bank had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to access N3.6 billion for mechanised farming in the country. He said the bank would also inject 35 per cent of the amount as its contribution while the 80 service support centres to be established would also make contributions. Mr. Santuraki said the bank would build a vendor financier relationship with the tractor companies, to supply tractors and other services to the support stations. He explained that the new stations would offer tractors services and other technical support to farmers at reasonable cost. The managing director said the overall objective was to increase productivity and food security in the country, make agriculture more attractive, and help to reduce the cost of farm labour. “It is shameful that 60 per cent of Nigerians are engaged in agriculture, yet the country imports 12 billion dollars worth of food every year,” he said. Mr. Santuraki said mechanised farming would cut down on the numbers of Nigerians in agriculture, who could make more useful contributions in other sectors of the economy. “The programme is targeted at people who are experienced in this line of business. It is not a political jamboree we want to support agriculture as a business that is viable and sustainable,” he said. He commended TAK for its support to Nigeria’s “critical economic sector”. kingoflag: dunce, they're projecting employment for only 2500 people and u clowns are here braying like the looney sicko donkeys u are. Lmaooo smhBros a company like Shell doesn't employ up to 1,500 direct staffs..but a lot of company DEPEND ON CONTRACTS from them and this provides job for thousand others..so in GE's case a lot of ancillary services will be needed leading to creation of lot of jobs..hope you get the drift.. |
Yes ooo...Foreign investors pouring in like water...in GEJ's tenure investors keep setting up companies..WE NO LONGER HEAR ABOUT COMPANIES LEAVING NIGERIA like Dunlop and Co did..so that means something is definitely been done right... |
Following its announcement last year that it intends to invest $1 billion in Nigeria, General Electric (GE) has scheduled the groundbreaking for its $250 million manufacturing and assembly plant for Tuesday in Calabar. The ceremony will be performed by Vice President Namadi Sambo. When completed in the next three years, the facility will be the biggest in Africa and will have an additional operating expenditure of about $1 billion in the next ten years. Besides, it intends to make Calabar the hub of its manufacturing activities in sub-Saharan Africa. Expectedly, Calabar is agog with various activities just as economists have been listing the impacts GE’s arrival will have on the economy of Cross River State in particular and Nigeria as a whole. Prof. Ndem Ayara, the Economic Adviser to Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, said, “The biggest infrastructure gap we have is in the energy sub-sector. The expectation is that they are coming to close that gap between energy that is available and the energy we need. They are going to provide energy that will support other sectors of the economy.” Ayara said apart from creating employment opportunities by stimulating investments in other sectors of the economy, thus creating a multiplier effect, Cross River as the host state will become the cashment area or primary beneficiary of direct employment from GE. “Cross River as the hub, will have the advantage of being the immediate market. Indigenes of the state will benefit from employment, especially if what GE seeks is skilled labour.” Speaking in a similar vein, the head of Cross River State Investment Bureau, Mr. Gerald Ada said “the investment by GE will add approximately 2500 skilled jobs and several unskilled jobs in the supply and distribution chain. “There will be various opportunities triggered from this investment as GE suppliers will follow suit.” Source:www.vanguardngr.com/2013/06/ge-breaks-ground-for-250m-manufacturing-and-assembly-plant-in-calabar/ |

HAH: This power plant was commissioned by Obasanjo in 2007.There is a huge difference between GEREGU 1 and GEREGU 11...Geregu 1 generates 414 MW and Geregu 11 generates 434 MW A little research would have saved you this embarrassment... |
Ribadu challenge the facts abati raised? 1) did you once describe Bola Tinubu as a corrupt official and one who is unelectable? 2)Did you once draw up a list of politicians describing them as corrupt and barred them from contesting election without a court order to that effect? 3)Did you once go on a self imposed exile? 4)When you came back from the exile did Jonathan's administration restore your rank? Those are the issues you have to address... |
Wendyslim: As the power plant increases na so the power supply dey worse. Last ten years the power supply is far far better dan now when we have more power plant. AbegiiiiiMadam how can u make such a blanket assertion?...power supply is far better 10 years ago??...if u care to know let me educate you a little... Nigeria in the last 2 years have completed most power plants but there is the problem of weak transmission infrastructure to transmit this light to houses and offices.. And u may ask what is govt doin about this?..yes they have admiited that this is an issue and the steps taken so far to correct this include but not limited to: 1) building of smart power grids ƒσя which recently $3.7 billion dollars was released to complete ongoing works 2) building of 330kv and double circuit lines(a thread on that made front page on this forum) 3) transfer of TCN to an efficient manager and in this case Manitoba has already swung into action So hopefully before Dec 2013 the gap between generated and distributed power must have been closed up and we Nigerians will start enjoying constant electricity. So I implore you 2 be optimistic.. |
