PoliticsRe: The Worst Govenors Of 2013 by aycsharp(m): 4:56pm On Dec 27, 2013
In my own opinion, Gabriel Suswam should top the list, he stayed 300 days out of 356 of the year at Abuja sitting beside GEJ as if he is a PA, while infrastructures decay in his state no wonder he is called Mr Infrastructure grin and teachers were not paid, their is nothing he did in the state this year. Please @op find a slot for my state governor Abiola Ajimobi in the list, he is a non performer, full of cheap propaganda, apology to APC people, he is such a disgrace to SW.

PoliticsRe: Shoprite Opens In Ibadan by aycsharp(m): 3:51pm On Jun 29, 2013
I am proud to come from Ibadan, yes Ibadan has over a million brown roofs kudos to ancient civilization from the Yorubas, when other tribes in the country were living in "channel 0" kind of houses. Show me a city in Nigeria without urban slum and it shows how naive you are, most people talking on nairaland have not even left their enclaves to see some other parts of the country, modernized places in Ibadan are more than the ancient places, I stand to be corrected any time. Having toured places like Enugu, Awka, Onitsha, Asaba and even that poor Abakaliki, comparing any of those to Ibadan is unreasonable and really stupid because Ibadan is safer, cheaper to live, more westernized, more industrialized, even now cleaner than those south eastern cities. And the big part of it is that as the south eastern cities are crawling in terms of development, Ibadan is running, Each time I visited Ibadan now, I was always happy because of the changes I saw. So stop comparing any south eastern city with my beloved Ibadan.
ProgrammingRe: Association Of Nigerian Programmers Online by aycsharp(m): 4:51pm On Jun 17, 2013
csharpjava: Not anymore, because from your suggestions, you have shown you have great potentials in the field of software development, for this reason the Association is offering you a honorary degree in Software Engineering, I hope you will accept it.

On the other issues you raised I will get back later.
you talk as if having a software engineering degree makes you a good programmer/developer. That's a typical Nigerian way of thinking, as if those crappy Universities and polytechnics actually offer the real computing. To join open source groups online nobody will ask of your CS degree, until Nigerians stop this certificate mentality, I doubt if the country will move forward.
ProgrammingRe: Association Of Nigerian Programmers Online by aycsharp(m): 1:32pm On Jun 16, 2013
GideonG: Real programmers don't have BSC except you are talking about mediocre programmers.

When I say real programmers I mean "real" all those ones you are talking about na wash.
Open the thread for everybody and you will be surprise how many talent we have, stop thinking in the past.
most of the great programmers have CS degree, the likes of Linus Trovalds, Scott Hanselman, Scott Gu, time will not permit to start mentioning names, but that's not to say their are no good programmers without CS degree, its only in Nigeria that having CS degree is like a waste of time, because the schools are crappy schools. The association should be opened to those with and those without CS degrees.

GetGuide: We Have No Casualties In Our Troops To Mali

THE Nigerian Army authority Friday said it has so far recorded no casualty in Nigeria’s Peace Keeping operation to Mali.

Head of African-led International Support Mission in Mali (AFISMA) Monitoring Team, Major General Chinedu Ugwu, disclosed this while deploying another set of troops, which include 57 officers to replace the previous troops deployed to Mali in January this year.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the troops’ predeployment training at the Nigerian Army Peace Keeping Centre (NAPKC), Jaji near Kaduna, Major General Ugwu said Nigeria’s performance in Mali has been excellent as he was quick to note that, Nigerian Army has not lost any soul in the ongoing operation.

According to the Head of AFISMA Monitoring Team, the Nigerian Army has been performing well and the host country, Mali is happy to have the Nigerian contingent. In fact, in the areas where the Nigerian troops are deployed, like Rere and Niara the people are always happy with them to the extent that they donate food items to them. They said they want Nigeria to be with them and that is why we have the Force Commander there. They are all happy and our performance is excellent.

The essence of the predeployment training for NIBATT 2 is to rotate the present troops in Mali. They will be rotated after six months, General Ugwu said.

Earlier, while addressing the 906 officers and soldiers, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Ahmed Jibrin warned the troops to avoid trafficking of illicit drugs as they embark on the trip and also respect the cultural and religious sensitivity of the people of Mali.

He said, the nature of peacekeeping operations have changed and take place in complex environments characterized by challenging issues like destroyed infrastructure, economic collapse and human suffering.

The GOC further noted that despite the challenges, Nigeria would continue to live up to its commitment in safeguarding world peace as he told the troops to defend themselves when necessary.

According to him, you can fight to discharge your mandate when the need arises to do so, especially to protect yourself, your colleague or persons and property in your care. You must remember that the rules of engagement are to serve guidance in the use and application of force, Idris said.

Not that there might be, their are, may be you have not met them
ProgrammingRe: Software Developers, Most of Your Jobs are Going To India! by aycsharp(m): 7:22pm On Feb 28, 2013
lordZOUGA: *applause* Nigerians don't even have enough skillful developers. skills first before we start worrying about business.
I have been fortunate to met and work with skillful and professional Developers in Nigeria and I have interacted with a lot of Indians developer, the true gist is that we have alot of skillful developers in Nigeria, that companies dont need to outsource softwares to Indians, but due to our thinking and lack of trust and the oyinbos can do it better mentality, companies still prefer to outsource, Some Indian developers are very good, those ones are either in the US or in India, the Indian developers that you find in Nigeria are those half baked and crappy ones that write data access codes directly under controls.
