Nairaland GeneralCovid19: How OP MESA Beat And Collected Our Money by ayodelej(op): 1:08am On Apr 23, 2020
"When the arrow of god is no longer at ease, things fall apart "
Out cries from the citizens on their sustainability have been the major songs renting the air in recent days, as this can't be far fetched from the existing lacunae between citizens and the government. Total or partial lockdown is the best option to save millions of Nigerians from Covid 19 but millions of Nigerians have already contacted Hunger virus which is more deadlier than Coronal virus.
The government of the upper ruling class needs more of attacking minded strategy in creating welfare and security to Nigerians at all time especially period like this where some people within the society are taking advantages of the lockdown to extort and exploit innocent citizens in our society which our security services are not exempted. Some bad eggs within our security services are already scooping thousands of naira from innocent people which I am also a victim where lots of money was collected from me, after serious beating with my head broken.
Things can't continue to be in an unorganized state without the society heading to anarchy state. The government should emulate the other nations in distribution of welfare materials to the people.

PoliticsOkada And Keke Operators Protested Ban Of Okada by ayodelej(op): 2:14am On Feb 04, 2020
Okada, tricycles riders and sympathisers trooped out enmass to protest against the unjust and recent ban of okada and tricycles by Lagos State government. This really exposed more the antics of the government to subject innocent and less privileged Nigerians to further hardship.
Despite that: the administration of Babajide sanwoolu have irresponsibly take away youth empowerment and employment as one of the cardinal projects of his administration, the hardworking Nigerians have taken transportation as a saving Grace to cater for their respective families.
The Nigeria security agencies acted as the bulldog of the government by unleashing terror on peaceful protesters at Ijora where lives of innocent youths were cut short by the Lagos State task force. This is barbaric, inhumane, wicked and a direct attack on Nigerians.
The policy must be rejected outrightly and the governor should be held responsible on further violence that might erupt sooner or later, the task force are killing and maiming likewise extorting and even going beyond the boundary of operations.
We say No! Okada and Keke Napep must not be banned as the government itself doesn't have a substantial reason to ban it and if they do, they should call for a debate. Alternatives should be provided and more jobs should be provided to Lagos citizens.

the question is: with numerous projects on ground and nothing for Babajide Sanwoolu to show in his 100 days in office, is further unemployment the solution to unemployment? what are the measure on ground to absorb unemployment?

Banning of okada, tricycles, opay and gomax by the Lagos State government is not only an act of wickedness but selfish.

This is purely an anti people's policy. The government did not take into consideration the positive effect of this means of transportation but only the negative ones and part of the negative effects of Keke and okada is partly contributed by the government itself due to its lackluster and lackadaisical attitudes in fixing good and motorable roads.

How long will it take the government to fix our roads? and most roads are always been fixed by the transporters in a way to ease there transportation business.

Which means of transportation doesn't have it's own risk and hazards?  as at today: Keke, okada serves as the major employer of labor in Lagos which I don't think Babajide Sanwoolu government is aware of, the government never mentioned any parliative measure that can incorporate the workers of okada and Keke but rather out of confusion rushed to ban Keke and okada. This isn't what lagosians are expecting from your government but an all encompassing administration and policies that will make life affordable to the common man on the street of Lagos
The ban on okada and Keke is condemnable and must be rejected by lagosians as this will bring further hardship to our lives. This should not be tolerated as it might lead to more criminal activities around Lagos and it's environs.
Lagos State should review this nonsensical policy of ban and engage in more robust policies as citizens are more interested in good living conditions

Nairaland GeneralJustice For Comrade Alex Ogbu by ayodelej(op): 4:48am On Jan 23, 2020
It is thus clear that the system and the bosses who run it are the culprits regarding insecurity in the country. It is equally clear that Comrade Alex Ogbu who has been killed in his prime must not die in vain.
And to that end we call on the Nigeria masses, the labour movement in its entirety that is the NLC, TUC, ULC, FIWON and all left forces to join us to fight for justice for the fallen fighter and a democratic end to the state of insecurity, which entails a ceaseless fight to change the system.
In the immediate instance, we call for:
• An acceptance of culpability by the police on the killing of Alex Ogbu;
• The constitution of a judicial panel of inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the killing and the continued state of siege in the country. This must include the trade unions and other popular organisations of working-class people;
• The police officers responsible for killing Alex Ogbu be brought to book;
• Compensation be paid to his family. His wife and 2-year old daughter must not be made to bear the brunt of economic consequences for the family as a result of the condemnable murder of their husband and father.

Aged and physically challenged workers of Lagos State NURTW received bounties and goodies from Alhaji Ayinde Akinsanya M.C Oluomo on Thursday. This serves as a give back to the workers in NURTW who have served meritoriously and also dedicated to the union. While Mr Paul Oginni received financial assistance for medical treatment and was also placed on salary for life, the likes of Mr. Dede and other aged women at the state council received financial assistance to the tune of #500,000 to start a petty stall for upkeep in the time of old age and also be self employed. This is the kind of gesture required from who is who and well to do individuals in the society. While castigations and hate speech have been targeted on M.C Oluomo in the time past, this never hindered his good spirit from putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged in our society. It is also a call on other members of unions to emulate the kind behavior of this gentle Alhaji

*19 Days After DSS Fails To Release Detained OAU Activist, Transfers Him To Abuja*

The Department Of State Security (DSS), Oshogbo division, has transferred Olawale Adebayo (Mandate) to Abuja during this week after 19 days of unlawful detention, GIW can confirm.

It should be recalled that GIW reported earlier that Olawale Adebayo is one of the #RevolutionNow protesters that was arrested in Oshogbo on the 5th of August. He was arrested alongside three other students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), a UniOsun lecturer, and two members of the Take It Back Movement. However, other arrested protesters were released few days after the arrest but the DSS have chosen to keep Mandate in detention for reasons best known to them.

Efforts made by several authorities and persons to secure his release are being frustrated by the DSS. In a related development the DSS has also refused to allow anyone see him, including his lawyer. However, his co-detainee who shared same confinement with him and was released two weeks ago confirmed that Mandate was not in a good state of health before he left the cell, he further stated that Mandate has been subjected to varying degrees of torture by the hard-wired security operatives.

In another development, a source who chose to speak under anonymity has revealed that the prolonged detention of Mandate might be linked to the strategic clampdown of the university management on campus activists - with Mandate being a prominent one. The source further stated that Mandate's prolonged detention is being influenced by certain power brokers in the University's helm of affairs. Already, the strategic victimisation of campus activists through portal deactivation, unlawful arrests, detention and arraignment with the aid of external forces such as DSS and the judiciary is a trend synonymous with the Ogunbodede-led administration.

Although, the university has denied influencing the detention and arraignment of the protesting students in a news published on OAUkilonshele on Monday, but, the circular earlier released on August 5 by the Dean Of Students' Affairs, Prof. Aransi, gives a contrast to such denial. The circular which reads on the fourth paragraph; "Any student involved in the protest would have himself/herself to blame.

One then would begin to wonder how the university can affirmatively state that students protesting outside it's jurisdiction would have themselves to blame if does not already have an unholy alliance with the security operatives and the judiciary.

Trends

On March 21, 2018, the Vice-chancellor orchestrated the arrest of five students, through the campus security, for protesting against his eviction order at Moremi hall, and subsequently they were detained in Koshere prison for seven days with stringent bail conditions. However, after an outpour of public criticism, he denied involvement in their arrest, the university even went further to state that the students were directly arrested by the policemen, when video evidences showed the arrest was done by campus security operatives who later handed them over to the police force for arraignment and disciplinary actions.

The kill-and-deny approach can be said to be another strategic tactics of the university management to victimise campus activists.

Legal perspective

The Constitution of Nigeria stipulates that a suspect should not be detained for more than forty-eight hours without trial, however, Mandate has been held in detention for over 19 days without a court trial. Recently, the DSS lawyer had tried to dissuade Mandate's lawyer from filing a court order for his bail, stating that the DSS would not honour such bail. Already, the DSS has built a reputation of disregarding court orders.

A Lagos-based lawyer, Ayo Ademiluyi Esq, has condemned the prolonged detention of Mandate as a gross violation of his fundamental human rights. 'In the first instance, he has spent excessive days in Oshogbo's cell, his transfer to Abuja is an infringement on his natural liberty and a further testament that the Buhari-led administration has no respect for democratic rights', Ayo Ademiluyi said.

As at the time of filing this report, all efforts to reach the DSS Oshogbo division and the authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University proved abortive.

The coming week would make it exactly three weeks that Mandate has been held in detention without any trial. A media campaign has been launched by several bodies with the hashtag: #FreeMandate.

The Oshogbo scene is still in memorial which some hoodlums led by Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede distrupted and caused unrest in Oshogbo based on who becomes the national president of the union. The past of Kunle Poly is no longer a news to the society as his past is historical with notorious actions and do we see this people worthy of leadership role? It is a question to be answered by all of us
Another rally organized by this set of individuals will be another avenue of displaying and perpetrating devilish and notorious actions on innocent individuals on the street and a plan is on board to cause and factionalize the union if One Wale Ajulo fails to emerge as the chairman of Lagos Nurtw which needs to be rejected and exposes at all time.
