fatanu: in my visa app to us... i used married as marital status and even fill in my spouse name...but i dont want to present im married cos its student visa i want to apply for and i am using someone as sponsor... not going to present my own soa. thanks my concern... if i say im married and cant even present my personal financial status... they will think somehow.
thats the concern Hmmm....u want to deny your husband because of Canada? That's not good (if you truly married). But if u were never married, the you may claim to be divorced. And except you just graduated or just finished nysc (which means you don't have study gap) you may still need to submit your SOA o. So what's your profile? When did you finish UG? What have you been doing? Are/were you married for real? |

fatanu: yes i was denied....more to it i lie in some personal information which i will like to correct and say the truth in this canada application. pls what should i do
thanks Hmmm....it's kinda complicated o. The ideal thing is to come out straight, probably explain in a Letter of Explanation, but at the same time, it may backfire. So honestly speaking, I don't know what to say. Maybe the GURUS in the house can better advise you. @thesoj, what do you think? |

freeR1: Nope, I disagree. US and CA consulate are different entities and they will not share information. Now, they both have a universal terror/ watch list which I hope you are not on. If in future they are suspicious of something and they want to investigate, either country will have to use a warrant to get the needed info. People should please be careful about the info they pass on this medium. Information privacy is a very important part of western world. It's funny how people argue blindly. Well, I'm not a lawyer, so no need to argue with you. Whether you agree or disagree, e no concern me! But before you come here and start arguing as if you're a younger brother to a VO, make some efforts to research first. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/laws-policy/agreements/can-usa-agreement.asp |

kkokoma: Hi all,
Please I intend to travel to Ottawa, Canada for the Xmas & New year. I discovered that Turkish Airline from Lagos to Toronto is the cheapest fare.
I want to know if I can fly Turkish Airline to Toronto and book a local flight ( Air Canada) from Toronto to Ottawa . This would save more than N50,000
I want to know if I would have any problem at the Point of Entry since in my Visa application I stated I was going to see my brother in Ottawa You shouldn't have any problem, just keep your ticket to Ottawa close, the Border Protection officer may ask for it. Have you tried going from Abuja? Of late, flights to Canada from Abuja have been ridiculously cheap, compared to Lagos. Check for these days in particular, Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Cheers |

lamama1: Hello House,
A quick 1 here, when can 1 travel for a january start date, is November not to early to travel, and hp there won't be an issue if u first land at another province other than the province ur institution is. I mean if u don't go to ur school directly cos I m planning on seeing fam b4 ending out to school. I don't think November is too early. As regards your second question, there may/may not be issue, depending on the Border Control Officer and his/her mood at that time. But I'll advise you go with a confirmed booking (ticket) of your flight from that province to the province of your institution, just to be on a safe side. With that, there won't be issue at all. Once the officer raises issue, u'll just present the confirmed booking to proof that you're truly going to resume at your school after a short stay in the province you are at that time. |

fatanu: Hello House, Please i will like to ask this concern question. I have heard and read Canada and US share immigration data information of immigrant applicants. How do they check this? Does it mean when you details or biometric information is enter into their system, your details in US data pops up or until they do a cross check of your details in US database. I am asking because i made a mistake in my details in visa application i did to US embassy, i will like to correct it in Canada visa application, but i have scared of any contradictions of information.
Pls house i will appreciate good and experience response to this
Thanks Of course US and Canadian embassies share information about visa applicants, except information about Citizens and Permanent Residents of US and Canada. My advice, be straight-forward. If you've been denied visa by US, declare to Canada or vice versa. Cheers |

Neelzar: Hi all,
A friend of mine just got her PR through spousal sponsorship. With the new foreign currency reforms in Nigeria, where can she get Canadian dollars for her to travel?
Thanks She can get BTA of about 4000 usd at her bank in Naija and she will change USD to CAD when she gets to Canada. It's better to change money at bank because you'll be sure it is not fake and then it is cheaper. All you need is your visa and confirmed booking (ticket). Buying CAD from naija may be difficult, expensive and/or risky (fake). |

Onyeoma3: Sir, I would rather advise you to prepare one and contact one or two guys in here willing to assist to proof read your SOP. Coming here to say you need a very strong and mind blowing SOP for an urgent application on Monday sounds very very funny as well as annoying. Truth be told, from now till next 5 years, you'll never get any SOP and no one will even respond to your request as there's no robot that autogenerates SOP on this thread.
No offense intended, just an advice. No offense intended, but I wonder why people behave like that. If you can't explain why you wanna study a course, why not just sit your ass back here in Naija? Some People need help with virtually everything! Habba, that's not fair at all. Statement of Purpose is just an Essay or a writing to explain why you personally wanna study a particular course, period! Why contract someone to help you write about why you personally wanna study a course? We ain't Joseph, who can interpret someone else's dream abeg! |

But you'll need to be careful with online route.....sometimes if you don't compress or scan your doc well, it may work against you, because the VO will make a decision based on what you present to him, so if your doc is not clear.......then you know what that means. the VO just sieved through the application and as a result of the workload he just assumed.
realistically how can a 23year old guy finish bachelors 7years ago......soundns ridiculous to me...
right now i will include my certificate, NYSC as present activity...... I think it will be good you add an Appeal Letter too, while you attach the gcms to it.......telling the VO of your disappointment, but in a constructive and respectful manner! |

lexyj123: Hello akin, its been a while. let me be the first to screen you (constructively tho!)
according to your info above, you have degree in civil eng.you are 23 years old, that means you gained admission into university at the age of 13 if your program was 4 years duration, think about this. the guy was not satisfied with your personal finance, therefore add more convincing documents.
your response on this could suggest more directions. It is not about finance. It is about Purpose of Visit. Some way, some how, the VO thought he completed undergrad in 2008, and of which I started undergrad in 2008 and graduated just last year. That issue of asset and finance always or mostly come with purpose of visit, and then they use Travel History to garnish it (For those with virgin passports). So me think we should find out why the VO felt Akin graduated 7 years ago. And there are two possible reasons, probably Akin made a mistake while filling his visa forms or the VO just finished consuming some wraps of wet weed, and then he/she wasn't seeing clearly! |

thesoj: @ayooluwatoni I totally agree with both your points, especially your second point about LOE/SOP. @omonjoe @berexio1 @ayooluwatoni I however think that we should not hyperfocus and over-emphasize on the personal assets and financial status issue. I believe that it is when the VO is not explicitly convinced about the applicant's intentions in Canada that other imperfect aspects of the app start to look glaring. Fixing Purpose of Visit is the biggest elephant in the room. The other reasons matter of course, but a convincing Purpose of Visit could considerably allay the VO's concerns about all the other issues.
I strongly believe that an SOP dripping with passion and vision for your future in Nigeria shows very strong professional ties. Such an SOP would have to be super specific... I made my sister write in her SOP very precise descriptions of what she would do in Naija with her Canada MSc. She gave very precise and informed examples of these plans. All over the essay, she kept linking her MSc program to the particular skills she would need to implement those specific plans. Btw, she had a similar study gap as omonjoe... also, she didn't include any study leave letter or property documents or car document or anything of that sort. She had also changed fields, and her job was completely unrelated to her BSc. But we helped the VO understand everything, thru the SOP. It was very time-consuming to write it though... it took a month to get what we thought was perfect. Btw, she did include her bank account statement.
Also, I was reading someone else's GCMS notes in the past, and the VO noted that the candidate didn't have strong family/professional/financial ties to Nigeria. This was when I realized/remembered that you could convince the VO through one or any combination of these three ties (not necessarily all three).
I think we shouldn't be too formulaic about the application process, as @khalesi noted. In my opinion, the best way to reduce the probability of being delayed (particularly for complex/PGD applicants with a study gap) is to be clear, convincing, and passionate about what exactly it is in Nigeria you want to use your Canada education to impact. Also needed is to clearly & convincingly justify one's past educational & employment trajectory. You would do this in your SOP, and would spell everything else out very clearly. Don't expect the VO to read your mind, yet be concise unless you are a very engaging writer.
Finally, earlier in the thread (Parts 7 & 8 ), I remember there were several working applicants (in their mid to late 20s) with bank accounts less than N500k yet still got their TRV. You're very correct @thesoj, even in one of my recent posts I made mention of the fact that I'm personally not a fan of making asset declaration. Never done it personally, I didn't even submit my own soa or any land or vehicle document, yet I got my trv. But I saw a guy's GCMS with similar refusal reasons as that of this bro, and the VO faulted his application for not showing proof that he has indeed been working. But just like you said, the main reason is that "purpose of visit". |

Omonjoe: I submitted by payslips and SOA. I tried getting admission for M.Eng buh I couldn't secure one and I love d PGD program cos of the practicals. I submitted my employment letter, confirmation letter, redeployment letter, Introduction letter frm office, Study leave with pay letter. I graduated in 2010 and completed NYSC in 2011. My sponsors are my uncle and aunt. I am 29 Well, I can't categorically say PGD was the major reason for your refusal, but most people with these type and set of reasons are either PGD applicants or applicants with a wide academic gap. Unfortunately, you're combining the two. Lol 1. Try and tackle your personal asset/financial situation issue. The thing is, you claim to have been working for over 4 years, and you also claim your employment makes so much sense that you just can't leave it for the best job in Canada, but unfortunately you didn't proof these claims. Your total worth over the period of 4 years of hard Labour in a "good" employment is less that 2m, which is equivalent to say 13 to 15k CAD. You need to show proof that you've indeed been working and the job is good enough to bring you back to naija. Boost your account, of course not by a lump sum. You can print SoA of your other accounts, lodge in money with funny tags e.g "loan repayment". Just boost your account and show ownership doc of some assets you have. Even if na car document, no shy, add am! 2. Write a comprehensive Letter of Explanation. Let the VO know why you chose to go for a PGD program, despite having a 2-1. Don't be ashamed of the fact that you tried getting into a master's prog without success. Also explain why you chose to study your proposed course of study, and link it to your UG and also your job, and make the VO know how your proposed course of study will be applied to your employment. I wish you good luck! |

my intended program was PGD in Robotics and Industrial Automation I have B.Eng in Elect / Elect Engr, second class upper in 2010 I have been working since 2011. My work is related to my intended prog. Pls I need advice on what to do I'm so sorry about your delay. In my opinion, your study gap and choice of course/program of study should be the reason for your delay. Don't worry yourself about travel history and family ties, your major problem should be purpose of visit, seconded by personal asset. May I ask why you're going for a PGD, when you have a 2-1? Did you submit your pay slips and soa? What was your balance like? Did you submit additional supporting documents to proof you have indeed been working since 2011? You don't seem to have issues of insufficient funds, but lemme ask who your sponsor is? May I know your age bracket? And lastly, what year did you graduate? |

Joe980: And can't the land be sold once he gets to Canada after the said ownership? Well, I'm personally not a fan of making declaration of properties. That applies basically to applicants who have been in one employment or the other, and the purpose is to proof PERSONAL ASSET AND FINANCIAL SITUATION. But for a regular applicant within the normal age (for instance a 24-year old applicant who just graduated or completed nysc and going for Masters or an 18-year old applicant who just left secondary school and going for undergrad) do not need any land or property declaration, because the VO will understand he's not been working and of course cannot have any personal asset. The assets could still be declared in order to proof family situation, but if one can show a good statement of account with enough funds (especially that of his/her parents), then that alone is enough. But we're beginning to major in minor! Even if you have a land worth 10M and your SoA balance is low, I doubt if VO will grant such visa, because what the VO wanna see is a SUFFICIENT AND AVAILABLE funds. On the contrary if you submit an SoA of 10m balance, with no asset declaration, but with other factors being constant (in terms of age, course etc), there's a high tendency the VO will grant the visa! I'll recommend all APPLICANTS should take time to study the Study Permit Application Guide for Nigerians on CIC site and not base their actions entirely on what they see or read on Nairaland! ***Just my opinion*** |
