PeeDaVinci:

na wa ooo, babaogun, what is the relationship between christian banking and vatican bank?? islamic banking is a system of banking, like commercial banking, investment banking etc. and vatican bank is a bank and not a banking system, sir.
and by the way, there is no banking system, including islamic banking, that is insulated from corruption

@PeeDaVinci
I never stated Christian Banking is a recognised system of banking. My point was to show a bank which operated with Christian beliefs and principles.
The Vatican Bank is the Recognised Bank of the Roman Catholic Church. It is owned by the church and its profits are used for charitable causes.

My question now is "Do you classify the Vatican Banking system as a commercial bank, investment bank or an Islamic Bank?"

If you do a little research, 80% of the stories relating to the Vatican Bank covers money laundering, tax evasion charges, etc. Maybe you will realise why i said TOO MUCH controversies

Islam does not encourage terrorism, muslim extremists do. Always remember there are extremists in every religion or society.
Are you saying global banking does not encourage terrorism?

Is there Christian Banking?
There is the Vatican Bank, embroiled with too much controversies, mostly fraud related and history of dealings with the mafia,

Vatican Bank
Set up by Pope Pius XII in 1942
Based in Vatican City, has no other branches, operates as offshore institution outside EU rules
Headed by professional banker overseen by commission of cardinals
No shareholders, no policy-making functions
All profits set aside for charitable or religious works

I think you cannot have Sharia Law in a country that has a constitution and its laws which are based on secularity(distinction between state and religion),

However, Islamic Banking is a fantastic system of banking that provides quality service based on the principle of Islam in relation to non-interest earning or bearing accounts as well as non investment in unethical products or services based on Islamic standards.

Ogun PDP crisis: Daniel exonerates Obasanjo

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/02/ogun-pdp-crisis-daniel-exonerates-obasanjo/

GOVERNOR Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State, yesterday, exonerated former President Olusegun Obasanjo from the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, saying people including Minister of Industries; Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye were only using his name to cause trouble.
Daniel also declared that the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, had never defeated the PDP in any popular election, noting that the party had always claimed victory through the courts making the judiciary its strength.
Daniel in a live interview on the State-owned Radio Station, Gateway Radio titled “Lets talk about it” said that people should not link the name of former President Obasanjo to the crisis within the party because his achievements in the country surpassed that of any other person of Yoruba extraction, lamenting that some people were using his name to create chaos in the party.
He said, “the likes of Martins-Kuye are using Obasanjo’s name and they are dragging it in the mud. The challenge of our country is that while we all agree that our country has not been governed well, those agencies that should be agents of progressive change, the security, media and judiciary have become agents of status quo. They are supporting what they should be fighting against.
“In 2002 when I joined the PDP, there was no party. It was a tattered organisation. We brought sanity into the party and gave due respect to people we met there and whatever they asked for; we gave them. We had our eyes on the reorganisation of the party which we have done. They then woke up one day and say they are founding fathers. A party that could not win election.”
Speaking on the ACN, Governor Daniel said the strength of the party was in the judiciary and that the party had never defeated the PDP in any popular election, stressing that the judiciary should only order reruns and should not give victory in the court.
According to him: “In any rerun that was conducted, the PDP had won all including that of Ido Osi, House of Representatives rerun in Ibeju/Lekki and just last month another House of Assembly election in Ikorodu.
Whenever you have any issue to be sorted out in court, ACN has been winning. That is the pattern. If we say what we are practicing is democracy, the power of the judiciary should be limited to where they have issues over election, it should order a rerun. The so called victory of ACN in the South-West is a judicial victory.”

@DeeJay20:
So what do you think is getting their fingers burnt?

Me thinks they were borrowing too much and not necessarily the use of EuroBonds.
Italy is 7th largest economy in the world in GDP terms and they have borrowed more than 115% of GDP. Italy still raised 12bn Euro in December 2010.

Nigeria is one of the least leveraged countries (<20% of GDP) in the world unlike all the countries you listed who are borrowing at close to or even more than their GDP.
We are aware of the terms and conditions and this borrowing does not interfere with our sovereignty. We only have problems if we can't meet up with payments.

I didn’t insult Fayose – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday denied exchanging hot words with a former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, at the thanksgiving reception organised by the sacked former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, in his Okuku hometown, Oyo State, because he (Obasanjo) could not condenscend to the level of the former Ekiti governor.

Fayose, impeached as governor in 2006 in controversial circumstances during the second term tenure of the Obasanjo’s eight-year regime, was reported to have launched a verbal attack on Obasanjo at the Okuku event but the former president told our correspondent on Monday that he did not respond to Fayose’s diatribe.

Obasanjo, who spoke on the telephone through his Consultant on Media, Mr. Adeoba Ojekunle, wondered why he would exchange hot words with “someone that I could be his father.” He said Fayose’s “aggression was misplaced.”

The former President insisted that there was no exchange of hot words between him and the ex-governor as he claimed that Fayose left shortly after the encounter which was said to have almost ended the ceremony.

Ojekunle explained, “He (Fayose) came into the inner room of Oyinlola’s house, where Baba (Obasanjo) was with the rest of the visitors. Fayose was not around during the thanksgiving service; he came after the service. He greeted everyone in the inner room except Baba. So, the other people asked him why he would not greet Baba. That was what sparked off his anger as he started raining abuses on Baba. But if you know Baba very well, he would not say a word; and he didn’t say anything,” said the consultant as Obasanjo tried to find out from the background who was seeking clarifications on the Okuku encounter.

“You can ask me, was it Baba that was behind his trouble? Was he the EFCC that is trying him for corruption? Baba was not even there (in office) when he was arraigned for corrupt charges. So, he should go to his state and sort out his troubles.”

He claimed that Fayose could not continue his visit (to Oyinlola) after the verbal assault as he “hurriedly left the place because other dignitaries took exception to his conduct.”

Since Fayose was impeached four years ago, there had been no love lost between him and the former president. He had publicly blamed Obasanjo for his impeachment and subsequent trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The Okuku episode on Sunday apparently provided Fayose the opportunity to confront the former president.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Farmers and Hunters Union, popularly known as the Agbekoya, on Monday issued a statement asking Fayose to apologise to Obasanjo for his conduct which the union said amounted to disrespecting an elder.

In the statement signed by the media consultant to the NFHU, Mr. Olatunji Bandele, the Agbekoya, reputed to have fought a fierce war of liberation against the defunct Western Region Government in the first republic, said Obasanjo “by all standards can have Fayose as a son and as such there can not be comparison between their ages and status in Nigeria.”

The association of farmers apologised to the former president for Fayose’s conduct but insisited that the former Ekiti State Governor, whom it said “must have misunderstood some issues,” must publicly apologise to Obasanjo.

Also, a former minister of Aviation under the Obasanjo administration, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, on Monday faulted Fayose’s attack on the former president.

“There comes a time when you have to look at the person that is insulting you and you opt not to bother to respond because there are certain types of people that you just can not reason with. What we do not need is for anyone to unleash an unprofitable assault on such a great achiever (Obasanjo),” he said.

Poor Atiku!
Aganga really said it, dude doesn't even understand basic economics / development.

I am following this line of thought.

How can you churn out such massive policy of reducing Corporate Tax to 10% from 30% without telling us how the already under funded infrastructural development is going to survive.

I bet he doesn't even know how much is generated via Corporate tax per annum. How does he intend to finance the shortfall? You need to tell us Mr Atiku. Even if it is the lame excuse that you are going to reduce corruption.

He seems to say this reduction will occur in all sectors (in my mind including oil and gas!!!)

Reducing tax will not necessarily encourage massive Foreign Investments.

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has backed manager Carlo Ancelotti by claiming that the squad gets on perfectly well with the Italian and that he is a great coach.
Mikel commended Ancelotti for his even-handed approach at Stamford Bridge, saying there is no difference in the way he talks to 17-year-old youngsters or the experienced club captain.

"We all love the manager. He's a great man. You couldn't find a more relaxed manager who also does his job so well,” said Mikel, according to The Sun.

"He treats every player the same, which is very important. He speaks to Josh McEachran just likes he speaks to John Terry.

Mikel praised the 53-year-old for his support and contribution to both players and club, and back the Italian to rebound from the team's recent loss of form.

"We think he has been there for us, for every player when things haven't been going well,” said Mikel.

"He's given us all confidence and we want to support him. It's tough for everyone at the club, especially him right now.

"It's just a little blip, these things happen and we want to get results for him, to make him feel more relaxed, more secure."

Chelsea take on Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday, and are hoping to get back to winning ways if not for themselves, then for the manager.

"We are all desperate to start getting results for him."

The 23-year-old Nigerian stated that relations were going well both on and off the training ground and that they had a good training session on Friday.

"Training was good, the players were lively.

"The manager was smiling. This is Chelsea, even when things are not going well we are always trying to come together to come back very strong.

[b]"The amount of banter that goes on in this club is crazy. Sometimes the manager has to tell us to stop larking around to get on with training."

However, Mikel thinks that his team-mate Salomon Kalou is sometimes a little too friendly, describing theirs as a “husband and wife” relationship.

"Sometimes in training Kalou just tackles me and we start fighting on the floor.

"Everyone laughs and the manager will send us to stand apart.

"We are like husband and wife. Like today, he had a shower after training and then he went to my locker, put on my cream and took my aftershave."

"Yesterday he was bored in his house and he called me up and started talking rubbish.

"I said 'listen, you might be bored but I'm not, leave me alone, I've got something to do'.

"He was on the line for maybe 10 minutes and in the end I had to hang up. Sometimes he has nothing to do and just drives to my house to drive me crazy.

"Everyone knows how close we are. If they see us doing something like arguing they know that no matter what happens we will still be friends.

"Salomon is a good guy. We take the p**s out of each other a lot. But we have also helped each other a lot since we have been here."

This could atimes be a matter of life and death.

If you have any benefit arrangements, make sure your partner is the next of kin.
