TV/Movies / Re: Jenifa the. blockbuster by babaogun(m): 1:08pm On Feb 20, 2009
@ Kingron & Bishoptboy

You guys are just trying to get some cheap publicity here as far as i am concerned.

How many movies have come out of Naij and 95% of people associate with. We recollect almost every single word said from it? Why focus on picture/ lighting quality. The moral of the story is the most important.

We all know these video making equipments cost a lot and with piracy and copyright laws still far from where they should be, these guys are not going to invest all their life savings just to be ripped off by people who on this thread watched it free online.

Did you see this same girl that acted the role as Jenifa when she was growing up? I dont even know her name, but she was on this tv drama " I need to know" acting as an ajebuta, now she has crossed over her role to a local girl. Thats what you should focus on.

I am bold to say that it is a blockbuster based on Nigerian standard.

Not sure what to meet when he came to naija. He was open minded, he became one of us, and he gave us a hell of a time, He will always be grateful for that opportunity.

We all can learn from him, his Attitude made him an achiever in his field. He's prouder of Nigeria than quite alot of guys i know.

Keep doing well BIG DOG, Burn the waves down.

B4 i 4get, he's the only American that actually believes Nigeria is blessed and he's living it.

I never contribute to these controversial issues unless i find you have not helped anybody with your contribution.
Career / Re: The Truth About Bank Pay In Nigeria by babaogun(m): 11:04am On Aug 05, 2008
@negative commentaries on oceanic

I think people who havent worked with any bank should not castigate such banks, i once worked with oceanic bank and i know as a matter of fact that my peers could not match me salary for salary or exposure/experience for exposure/experience.
It had very simple procedural welfare benefits and when i resigned, i got close to half a million naira from my Staff savings scheme, dont know a few banks that do that, remember, these were deductions from our salary, and with these deductions my salary was competitive and i was having cash flows in my account at least every two weeks, quarterly, semi-annually-----beat that.

Oceanic never had differential pay (unless offcourse maybe at top management level) until i resigned just before my study leave expired last year.

Oceanic bank occassionally had IT problems, but was transparent with its fees and charges.

It was also a retail bank that also focussed on grassroots, this allowed banking halls to be jam packed (maybe negative).

As per quality of staff, every bank has got below average to super stars, so did oceanic, and for everyone who has had a bad experience with oceanic, there are 23 other guys who have had same situation with all other banks.

I have info on salary structure in almost all major banks with payslip and bank statements as proof, alot of guys just post salary scales of various banks without facts and i laugh alot.

oceanic review 2008 (per annum and after tax) - also note they pay upfront twice, quarterly productivity, salary bi-monthly (i.e 2ce a month) so u naturally have cashf flows all year round.

Politics / Re: Nigeria Without It's Vast Oil Reserves by babaogun(m): 3:14pm On Jul 01, 2008
We would not be hungry becos me, you, your family, my family would all be farmers.
We would sustain us that way, we wont have as much pollution becos fuel would be expensive and alot of us would share cars to work rather than drive separate cars cos traffic and pollution all over naija.
we would rely on Enugu for coal for train transportation,
we would have built a sustainable economy by now.
Industries would have grown on the back of manufacturing.

As per when our problems started, am not taking the piss on Gowon, but we as a nation had so much money from oil, we didnt know what to use it 4, everyone of us now wants to go to middle east, oyinbos are dying to go their on vacation, we are busy chasing people away.

I still believe in our great country though.
Business / Re: Nigerian Banks That Advertise On CNN by babaogun(m): 3:40pm On Jun 30, 2008
@poster
The consolidation process in Nigerian Banks is an ongoing process which includes
a) Internationalisation of our local banks , Nigerian baanks now rule the waves throughout the West African region. Full fledged Nigerian banks and not branches now operate in UK and US(STB is in New York).
b) International trade definitely involves Nigerian Banks, and if you make noise, the entire world will hear. This means banking transactions will be done with Naija banks that are visible.
c) Nierian banks are now being listed one way or the other in internationalised markets, e.g GTBank, Diamond bank, They need to advertise.
d) There's also nothing wrong with Zenith Bank supporting Inside Africa (a CNN programme propagating Africa), since they intend to be Number in Africa by contesting with South AFRICAN BANKS.

am sure other people would join their own, but i think they can only be questioned if they were not advertising in Naija, which they do.

Politics / Capital Cities Of West Africa States Are Coastal Cities Except Nigeria by babaogun(m): 1:31pm On May 26, 2008
Just to have a feel and open minded opinion as to why we needed to change Nigeria's capital city.
Not as if am against the change.

Well, one thing's for sure, the coast was made capital cities by the colonialists because they came to Africa by ship and their first point of call was the coastal cities and you would find out these locations became the most developed areas of each ECOWAS state on the coast.

I once heard it was because Lagos was being more developed than every other part of Nigeria.
I have also heard that its because our Ex-President wanted to make Niger State Nigeria's capital.
The most common one is that it is the geographical centre of Nigeria, i.e. Heart.

So many other reasons, so kindly give ideas to broaden our knowledge.

What were you doing when some people were coming out with top degrees?

You must have had a better grade somewhere else, so work on that.

If you were in a social club, that network would still be useful, use the links.
If you were a sports man, why not go professional.
If you were frustrated by teachers, it means you are intelligent, so you can get certifications (ICAN, CISCO,CISA etc wont frustrate you becos they dont know you).
If you were good with Unionism, go into politics
If you were a woman wrapper, try marketing, alot of fulltime/part time marketing jobs with good bonuses are available.
If you dont fall into any of these categories, you can tell the house your category, so many people would be willing to assist on this forum.

Cheers mate.
Politics / Re: 'My Power Project Story' By Olusegun Obasanjo by babaogun(m): 12:16pm On May 13, 2008
@fyneguy
I dislike all politicians (to dispell any thoughts that i have taken sides), but your argument can be floored slightly.

A president to the best of my knowledge gives full & final approval and not staged approval.
It is left to the agency (whether ministry, bureau, commission, etc) managing the project to run it in phases/stages.

If you run a small company not to talk of a conglomerate, not to talk of a state, then a country like Thailand, not to talk about Great Nigeria, you might find out that it cant be a one man show as you move up the hierarchy of sizes.

Yeah, I also forgot, we can use nairaland to raise used items, new items, etc for charity…we still throw away a lot of our useful items forgetting people who need them more than the thrash can exist.

i want to believe you set up this blog,

@all
Everyone would never get what they need or deserve from nairaland or life as a whole.
There would always be people who would never find nairaland useful, but i would tell you its a wonderful source of information and shared thoughts, especially for naijas in diaspora.
It has its serious, business like angle and can be comical/hilarious.

I always wished I came up with such a brilliant idea that metamorphosed into something like this.

Seun, this is a huge success, don’t rest on you oars though, there’s still lots to do, but I personally acknowledge this blog for breaking barriers.

I suggest you do a massive expansion drive asking for top class suggestions.

You can market this to industry: banks, telecoms, energy, retail/commercial businesses etc,
You need to make advertising money in order to improve the graphics, presentation, effects, functionality, templates etc,

The business section can be made more reliable so that we don’t have scams going on in nairaland, people doing business need to be fully registered for blogger protection.

I won’t go on and on, because the real advice would come at a cost, not also saying you are not thinking as well though.

Keep up with the good work.
Sports / Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by babaogun(m): 9:48am On May 12, 2008
someone made an argument that Buffon shouldnt be top becos he has great defenders covering him 90mins a game, but i hope you havent forgotten that italian defenders have been beaten so many times, but his reliability isn't in doubt becos he rises to such occassion time and time again.
Sports / Re: Who Is The Best Goal Keeper In The World by babaogun(m): 9:45am On May 12, 2008
Gianluigi "GIGI2 Buffon definitely, Iker Casillas is top notch as well just behind, Petr Cech was there, but since his head injury, he's lost some shape.
Gigi can do everything, his trademark punches,
while Casillas is a great shot stopper,
Cech is very flexible,exciting saves.

Buffon is on top, becos hes more professional, doesnt try anything fancy.

You guys should understand, nobody cares whether yakubu would warm bench anywhere else
or whether he only finishes wat is already going into the net (why didnt they buy someone else since it was easy to score so much by fluke?)

Mikel is not winning games, either by assist or defending,

but yak is winning games by finishing.

i know they play diff roles, but use same basis for comparison.

Business / Re: Visa Card, Master Card? by babaogun(m): 2:26pm On Apr 15, 2008
@author

Visacard and mastercard are both internationally accepted credit card company that provide the intterface for member institutions just like interswitch does in Nigeria for ATM cards with the security and worldwide acceptance.

MasterCard does not issue cards directly, but through their member institutions like HSBC, Royal bank of Scotland, local banks worldwide.

Master and Visa cards give you online spending power worldwide, but you might not be able to get your deliveries to Nigeria, because of our insecure borders in terms of financial transactions, so you might need a delivery address in UK,US and even south Africa etc to purchase online, but you can make payments online or go to a shop with a credit card terminal and shop till you die.

Remember, you are being charged interest based on your terms and conditions.

Whereas a domicilliary account is a foreign currency denominated account, e.g pound sterling account being operated in a nigerian bank.
It gives you the ability to get foreign transfers in Forex (foreign exchange) and withdraw in Forex.

You get charged for any withdrawals, say 1% of any amount withdrawn (e.g. 1pound for every 100pound withdrawn).
most banks would only open this sort of account if you have operated an account for as much as 6months or more.

Regards.

Its a control measure as well.

Investment / Re: Fixed Deposit by babaogun(m): 11:41am On Apr 15, 2008
@Author
@Mypeace

The minimum from investing 80million at 8% per annum simple interest is 6.4million naira and not 640k naira.

You would definitely earn more if you roll-over your interest till the end of the year, thereby giving you a maximum compounded interest of a maximum of 6,639,961.00 or thereabout.

Meanwhile, withholding tax of 10% is usually deducted from your interest, unless the bank has a specialised product like OCEANIC NOTES (oceanic bank), which allows you go without getting withholding tax deducted.

As a financial adviser and ex-banker, i also feel you should not put all that money into fixed deposits, rather it makes sense to have a diversified portfolio by placing stakes in the stock market, real estate, commerce, etc. This is to mitigate any risk that may arise within the investment period.

All the best.
