Apologies for some mistakes and typo error in this episode and last one. I used phone to type it and auto correct was "over sabiing" . Some of the next episodes might be like that until I settle the system issue. Thanks |
EPISODE FOURTEEN MFYL PR2 That question sent a WiFi connection among the three of us as we look at each other not knowing how to answer. The question is a little tricky and one needs to be careful dealing with law enforcement officers in this kind of scenario. "Are you his friends that brought him here?" he asked. Saying we are not his friends might pitched us with the other guys except the bar attendant and manager will stand for us. Me: We are not his friend, we only helped him down here. Cop2: How did you get there? Me: We went to see a friend but decided to have some drinks since we could not reach the friend. Cop2: Who was the friend? Me: She's one of the ladies caught up in the brawl. We've taken her home because she's drunk. Cop2: What were you drinking? . The question this other officer was asking sounded somehow, as if he was looking for a way of implicating us. We decided to allow only myself to answer all their questions on order to avoid giving contradicting answer that can give the cop room to exploit us. Me: We all ordered for malt Cop2: You are drinking malt in a bar? Me: You can ask the attendant Bar Attendant: It's true sir, they ordered for three malts Cop2: You guys will have to follow us to the station to give statement of what you saw. Me/Temmy/Sam: What? Cop1: Don't worry, you are not under arrest, you'll only write the statement and leave. Your statement will help us in our investigation. At this point we know we are closer to trouble because everybody knows you don't just go to police station to give statement in a situation like this and come back just like that. I'm not sure a witness should be be forced to write statement at the police station since he's not involved. I also believe the witness has right to decide if he wants to testify or not, it's not supposed to be by compulsion. Sam has started shouting and complaining, insisting we are not going anywhere because we know nothing of the fight. The second police officer twisted the matter and accused us of been his cultist friends. Cop2: You think we don't know you are lying? You guys are cultists and we've been trailing you for a while now. Temmy: Haba! We just entered Lagos today and we were supposed to go back if not for the incident. Are we now cultists because we helped him? Cop2: If you are not his friends, why did you pay his bills? Temmy: They won't attend to him until we pay something and was losing a lot of blood. It was a critical moment for him. We pay expecting to be paid back by his family. We continued to drag the argument with the cops ad they insisted we must follow them to the station as they wait for the macho guy to recover some strength. Later in the late evening, a man wearing "agbada" flanked by two mobile police officers and some thug looking men came into the hospital. He spoke with the doctor and entered into macho guys ward. I could hear him saying "Fred, how are you feeling now?". He was talking to the wounded guy and that's how we got to know his name, Fred. I remembered Janet made mention of it in her message that the guy is a son to an influential politician. I kept hearing the thug looking guys calling the man "Deputy". I don't know what he deputies, maybe it's a post he's holding in their political party. I saw fred pointing to us while the doctor shook his head as they converse with Deputy. He later came to us where we were sitting looking like lost sheep. Deputy: I learnt you guys brought my son to the clinic. Me: Yes sir Sam: He was stabbed in the back after a fight broke out at the bar. We has to rush him down because he was losing a lot of blood but now the police men said we must go to the station. Deputy: You are not going anywhere. Don't mind them, they are working for the opposition. I've reported them to their boss, they'll soon leave this place. Temmy: That's a relief sir, because it wasn't funny at all. Deputy: I really appreciate you guys, I heard you paid his bills Me: Yes sir, they were not ready to attend to him without the initial bills and he was running out of time. Deputy: That's thoughtful of you guys. You saved my son's life. I'm sure the opposition is behind this and I will show them. They are nothing but foolish opposition. He kept on bragging while his entourage were adding their own, suggesting who it might be that carried out the act. He later asked for the amount we paid and gave us double of the amount as we left the hospital to our relief. I wouldn't want to spend a minute in police cell, especially when you know you were only helping, it's tormenting. We headed back to Sam's house and decided to wash the car as blood stains from Fred has covered most part of the back sit. As we entered Fred's compound, we met Funmi there sitting on the front pavement alongside Sam's junior sister. We parked the car where we could have easy access to water as Sam quickly get down to get us soap and sponges. I was reluctant to get down of the car as I don't know what to say to her. I stayed right there in the car as she approaches us while Temmy got down to meet her. They were both talking with Temmy laughing as she smiles along but the more I look at them the more I felt like leaving the compound. Temmy eventually left her as he took soap and buckets from Sam who went back to get some sponges. Funmi came into the car and sits at the passenger's sit in the front with me at the drivers sit. She kept looking at me periodically but I kept a straight gaze looking into nothing specifically. We were in an awkward situation I never thought we'll be this soon. Two love birds who were always in the company of each other for around six months were there sitting beside each other like complete strangers. I was eagerly waiting for what she'll say as I still could not ascertain what went wrong. We sat there not saying a word until Temmy and Sam came back ready to wash the car. I tried to excuse myself out of the car in order to join them in the washing but she used the opportunity to start a conversation. Funmi: How long will it take for the sit to dried up? Me: I'm not sure but we'll try to clean it with minimal application of water so it can dry before tomorrow. Funmi: You are leaving tomorrow? Me: Very early tomorrow Funmi: You can't stay for a little while? Me: There is no reason to stay, besides my mission here is completed. Funmi: What mission is that? Me: I don't think it matters anymore Funmi: Can we talk? Me: We are already talking Funmi: I mean serious one, both of us alone. Me: I can do that, but that will be after the car is cleaned Funmi: No problem, I'll sleep here tonight. Me: Alright Even at this point, I was still not sure what was going on and I can't ascertain how I felt about her anymore. It was more like I have nothing left for her. The said diamond ring wasn't on her but I wish it was so I could ask her about it. We washed the car and scrubbed off the blood as it was not as easy as we thought it would be. Throughout the period we were washing the car, I was dead silent as my mood had already changed. Temmy and Sam tried to light up my mood by making some jokes but I wasn't having any of it. Funmi left with Sam's sister to her place, probably to pick things she'll be needing for the night. After we were satisfied with the washing of the car, we all sat on the pavement to discuss what it could have been if Deputy had not come to our rescue at the hard of the cunningly crook police officers. Temmy: I honestly don't understand where those officers were driving at. Sam: Bros they were going to lock us up in their cell Temmy: Why would they do that when they know we had no hand in the brawl. Sam: Welcome to Lagos Bro. They might even rogue us as a criminal and threaten to charge us to court except we bail ourselves on time. Temmy: Of course I know it's all about money. Only God knows how many people are in jail just because they were rogue by the police. Sam: Bros Will what's up now? You've been silent since. Temmy: You need to get out of your mind Bro. As they were trying to get word out of my mouth, there was a knock on the gate which was rather unusual as Sam claimed they were not expecting anybody by that hour except for Funmi and Sam's sister and they were not expected to knock since they how what to do for the gate to be opened. Sam did open the gate and we were surprised to see Fred with some guys coming into the compound. How did he know where we are was the question and why would he leave the hospital bed when he's still obviously not okay. Sam: Wao! Are you okay? I thought you are supposed to be in the hospital Fred: I'm a warrior, I can't allow them to tie me down. So this is your house? Sam: Yes, how did you get here? Fred: That make everything easy then. We were directed here by someone. I really appreciate you guys for the other time. Who knows, maybe I'll currently be answering for my sins now (we all laughed as he and the other guys came over to shake us) Sam: You are welcome man, but why did you have to come this night? Fred: I'm actually here to see my babe Sam: Your babe? Fred: Yes my baby, I was told she's here. |
EPISODE THIRTEEN MFYL PR2 After dropping off Uche, we put a call through to Samson who was luckily in Lagos that moment. We did not tell Uche we were going to see Funmi because I’m sure she’ll not like it. Samson picked us up at a place closer to his house to make it easier for us. He took us down to his house saying Funmi’s house is a stone throw from there. Sam: Bros you are looking good o, what’s the secret now Me: Samo the boss, na God o. Sam: Yes I know it’s God but I’m sure those Porthacourt babes too dey hmm, see bros Temmy self, Damn! I beg dash me your teddy now. Temmy: (We all laughed) Sincerely I wish I can give you all the teddy including the beard. I wish I don’t have them at all. Sam: That’s what all of you do say but I’m sure you wished for it while you were younger. Temmy: Of course, all of us wanted it while in secondary school, I never knew it’s a burden like this. Sam: So what do I offer you now. There is a joint close to this place, let’s go there and step down with pepper soup. Temmy: That sound so cool, sincerely I don’t mind some pepper soup with well garnished smoke beef or bush meat. It’s been long I ate that, but we have to get back home today. Sam: Today? You are not planning on sleeping over. Temmy: Not really, though it all depends on how things unfold as it’s already getting late now Sam: No qualms but still take something. Temmy: Surely we’ll do. How’s life now? Sam: Bros Temmy, we are managing o. School is on break and that’s why I’m around. Me: Oh, what about your admission? Sam: I’ve being admitted into Mechanical engineering. Please I’ll need your advice on how to cope there. I heard the lecturers are strict. Temmy: They are not that strict, they just have ego. Just make sure you attended all classes, because they can set quiz test anytime. Attendance is very important. Me: Especially for baba emeritus class, he’ll give you attendance form to fill every class. Temmy: And if you don’t meet the required attendance percentage, don’t bother to write the exam. Sam: What will happen if I write it? Me: Have you heard of somebody scoring 80F before? Sam: That’s ridiculous, 80 is a sure A. Temmy: OYO, if you write baba’s exam without having required attendance percentage, even the VC cannot save you from 90F. Sam: Na wa o! Me: Hope you can cram very well? Sam: Not really, I prefer calculation and I read to understand. Temmy: That’s very good. It’ll make you a good engineer but will not get you a good grade. It’ll only make you average. Me: My brother, if you want to have good grades in Mechanical Engineering or even Agricultural Engineering in that school, you must learn to cram very well. If your manual says “Corrosion is” and you write “Corrosions are”, my brother you are in . . . Temmy: OYO. Whatever they give to you, give back to them the same way it was given to you. Sam: That’s something o. Me: And don’t forget to buy the manual. They will say it’s not compulsory but don’t be fooled because they will use it against you. Temmy: You might not even use the manual but please buy it. Sam: I heard that from somebody also. Thanks guys. Temmy: You are welcome. Can we go to Funmi’s side now? Sam: Surely, I pray she’s home though. Temmy: Maybe you should call her to confirm. Sam: That won’t work. It’s been long she pick my call. She rather calls me. Me: Really? She doesn’t pick your calls? Since when have you noticed that? Sam: When I was coming back home last week I put a call through to her but she did not pick up. She later called back in the evening. I’ve tried calling her like three times after that but she kept ignoring and calling back whenever she wants. Me: But you’ve seen her since she came back from camp. Sam: Everyday, except today. I’ve been out since morning. I came back not long ago. You should call her now or she doesn’t pick your calls too? Me: No, she doesn’t Sam: That’s weird. What’s happening with you two? Me: That’s what I’m here to confirm. Sam: What’s going her with her that she’s not picking people’s call? Temmy: Since you came back, did you notice any strange behavior from her? Sam: Except she now go to bar with her friends more often now. We went to her house which was indeed a stone throw from Sam’s place. The house is on the third street and was designed similarly to Uncle Sam’s house in PH only it has more space and buildings. I guess it was the same contractor that built them with same design. We entered the compound only to be told by their house help she has gone out with her friends. It was getting late and we were not planning on sleeping over and our journey back home will take at least 4hours barring holdup anywhere along the road. We decided to go to the said bar to see if we we’ll find her there and if we don’t, we’ll head back home. “I’m more concern about her wellbeing now than our relationship. She going to the bar means she has started drinking again. What could have pushed her back to drinking on camp? was it an influence by her new friend or was it because we were apart for just some weeks? I really hope she okay” She was far from okay when we saw her totally drunk sitting in between three guys who were taking the advantage of her drunkenness to sexually molest her by touching her at sensitive parts while she laughs on like a mad fellow. Standing and staring like we saw ghost, one of the bar attendants approached us to ask what we wanted. We decided to sit round an empty table as we order for malts and “asun’ so we could stay there even though I couldn’t drink nor eat anything. Sam: Bros Will, what should we do? Should we call the police? Temmy: That might cause more trouble, we have to find a way of getting her out without causing trouble. Sam: That is so unlikely in this scenario. Or maybe I should call her Dad? Me: Her Dad is around? Sam: I’m not sure but I saw him last week. Temmy: We can’t call her Dad, it doesn’t make sense. Those guys are pure cultist and Funmi may have unknowingly put herself in soup. As we were still discussing, thinking of how to take her out, I saw the Macho guy coming out from an inner room linked to the bar with a lady. He was holding Funmi’s phone. I guess that’s the reason why she doesn’t pick calls any longer. The guy jokingly shout on the three guys for making fun of his finacee as he took his sit by Funmi’s side with the other lady sitting by his other side. Some minutes later, a group of guys and babes came into the bar talking loudly as they merge like three tables together. They were numbered up to ten or fifteen in number as I wasn't really counting. They ordered for drinks and continued to talk loudly without minding others. There was one of the guys who came without a lady. He suddenly stood up holding his drink and went to Funmi's table. Before we know what's going on, one of the three guys that we with Funmi earlier, before the macho guy came, smashed a beer bottle on the guy's head after which hell was let loose. . We could not interfere neither were we save any longer. We tried to run out of the bar but we're sent back after after we met some guys running into the bar with cutlass of different denominations. The three of us took cover and lied down at one corner. Soon, the fight was taken outside as majority of the guys chased themselves out of the bar. Looking towards Funmi's table I discovered she, the other lady and the macho guy were lying down in a pool of blood. We rushed down to them and discovered the blood was coming from the guy's body as he has being stabbed on the back. We carried him into the car while we help Funmi get into car as well as she was still drunk. The other lady only lied down to save herself as she left the place unscathed. We rushed the guy to the nearest private hospital where they were attending to him. I used some of the money left on me from treating my mother to pay for his initial bills. Like a Yoruba adage says "that we are quarreling does not mean the other should die" (Bi a ba n ja, bii tiku ko). After dropping the guy in the hospital, we took Funmi to her place and always her to sleep. It was already late at this time and we were not planning to travel at night. We therefore decided sleep over with Sam offering us his room. We went back to the hospital only to meet police men standing with the macho guy. We tried to go back as we sense trouble but the nurse who recognized us pointed to the police men that we brought him. The macho guy was awake but I thought he was under arrest because I could also the bar attendant and her manager with them. Cop1: Hello guys (he extended his hand to me) Me/Temmy/Sam: Good evening sir (I took his hand as she did same with Sam and Temny) Cop1: Are you his friends that brought him here? Cop2: He meant you are in the same cult right? |

EPISODE TWELVE MFYL PR2 To whom head is given, brain is expected and to whom brain is given, sense is expected. I was unable to bring sense out of the situation I met on ground. There were three conflicting reports on ground from three different doctors of the same clinic. My mother's husband is of the 2nd doctors’ school of thought that we should apply diabolical means to save my mother. The first doctor that was treating her whom I heard was now on work leave did direct my mum to go home as every test came negative even though my mother was still in pain. The 3rd doctor whom is currently treating her was the one that directed her to be transfer do to the teaching hospital stating she has likely consumed a poisonous substance which in turn increased her appendix problem. According to the doctor, he suspect appendix even though he could not ascertain it. I met my mum's husband and Aramide arguing bitterly over where to take her to. The funniest part was that he has collected the money I sent to them from his daughter, Vera whom he deceived stating he was going to use it to start her transfer process. I decided not to be involved in the brawl and ask Vera to take me straight to my mother with Temmy by my side. Fortunately I met the doctor in charge attending to her there. Me: Good morning Doctor, thank you very much for the care Doctor: You are welcome, who are you to her? Mother: (Speaking faintly, obviously in pain) He's my son, my only son. Hearing that sent a stream of emotion down my body and I felt so bad I wasn't there on time to take care of my mother. Doctor: Good, you are well educated I guess Me: To my best sir, I'm currently in youth service. Doctor: That's better; we need to talk in private. The doctor took me along into his office where he spit his mind and gave a sincere medical advice. Me: Sir, I heard we have three different reports on ground from different doctors of this same clinic, I don't think I've ever heard of such before. What's going on sir? Doctor: First thing I need you to know is your mother is safe and getting better. Me: She's still forcing out words sir Doctor: I wish you saw her day before yesterday. You'll know she's better. Me: I wasn't told it was that bad. Doctor: I wasn't there while she was brought here. It was my colleague who is now on work leave that attended to her. I saw his report and follow up on it. Your mother consumed a rare poison that can't be easily detected. I've asked her and your sisters but they could not provide us a reasonable answer. The poison wasn't evident at first but she was feeling the pain. Me: Which kind of poison works that way? Doctor: Well according to my research, it could be that somebody put eye drop or something similar in her food or drink. Or somebody applied Poinsettia to her food especially vegetables. Me: Poinsettia? I've never heard of that before. Doctor: It's an old way of poisoning people but not to kill them. It's found more in the western world. I've not heard of it in this part of the world which is why I'm going to stick to eye drop or something similar. It might be a poison from local herbs. Me: But who would want to poison her? Doctor: That I can't say, but I'm sure the person is not intending to kill her, probably to silence her for a moment. Me: Well the person was successful, so what's the way forward sir. Doctor: Your mother has a pending appendix case that I think she's been managing before this incident. I'm not sure of the major link between the poison and the appendix but the appendix is getting worse which is why she's in pain. You'll have to take her to the teaching hospital so she can have it removed. Me: Surgery Doctor: Yes, don't worry; it's a minor surgery case. Appendix is a common thing. Me: Alright sir, that you very much. Doctor: She should be able to walk so try to get a cab to take her there because using the clinic ambulance might be more costly. Me: I came with my car Doctor: That's better then. (He opened a file and gave me a sealed letter) Take that to the teaching hospital, it'll make them attend to you on time. I couldn't give your sister because I understand the problem with your Dad. Me: I don’t understand too. I’ll apply wisdom in transferring her to avoid their drama. Doctor: If the wisdom won’t work, you can use the police, let them just hold him till she’s transferred. Me: I hope it doesn’t get to that. Thank you so much Doctor. Doctor: You are welcome. Please take care of your mother. I have your sister’s number , I’ll call her to know how far you’ve gone. Me: Thank you so much sir. I left the doctor’s office to meet my mother with Temmy and Vera staying with her. Vera: What did the doctor say? Me: We are going to teaching hospital. I’ll explain other things later. Temmy: I don’t understand why they are arguing at the expense of mum’s life. Me: Mum, how are you feeling? Mother: (Forcing herself to speak) This belly pain is not giving me peace. Me: Don’t worry mother, we are going to the Teaching Hospital now (she wanted to speak). Don’t bother saying anything mum. Temmy I need you to help me, we’ll have to trick her husband. (I told him the plan) Temmy: What if it didn’t work? Me: Then I won’t have option than to use the police. Temmy: That will surely have after effect, but she’ll at least be alive. Temmy and I went outside to meet them still arguing; only this time, Aramide was already crying. Aramide: (Crying) Will, he wants to kill our mother (Temmy held and hug her while telling her the plan) Me: Good morning sir thanks for the care sir. Vfather: You saw me here before you entered but refused to greet me, but now you are saying good morning. Me: I’m sorry about that sir, I saw you were very busy and I needed to see my mother on time. Vfather: Busy doing what? Is it not this your sister giving me problem? Because you guys went to school, we won’t hear word again. Me: Sorry about that sir. I’ve spoken with the doctor and he said we should follow your way. He said that’s the only solution. Vfather: That’s what I’ve been saying. You kids that only came to this world yesterday will be arguing with elders. If she stays a day more here without getting to baba, you people should just look for money to bury her. Me: God forbid sir. We’ll go today but she needs to take another injection in the afternoon before we can leave. Vfather: She doesn’t need any injection from them again, they’ve been giving her injection and yet everything remained the same all these while. They want to kill my wife? Me: Sir, she doesn’t have enough strength to move an inch, that’s why this particular injection is necessary. It will make her sleep for a while to garner required strength. Vfather: Why not give her now then? Me: She already took one this morning, it’ll be conflicting. Vfather: Okay, like what time will they give her the injection so I can know how to arrange for cab? Me: Doctor said around 2pm, but I think we should arrange for the cab now and prepare every other thing needed because I’ve told him we’ll love to leave earlier than 2pm. Vfather: Getting a cab won’t be a problem. I’ll call a friend of mine, a cab driver; he’s the one that brought her here. But I’ll have to go and quickly make some arrangements at home. Me: Alright sir. You can also pay the man ahead. Vfather: Don’t worry, none of them will collect money for their services. Me: Okay, thank you sir. We’ll be waiting for you sir, or should I follow you? Vfather: No, you stay with her, I’ll do it. But I’ll go with all her transfer papers. Me: They’ve given it to you? Vfather: My doctor friend already did that since Me: Okay sir, you can go with it. He left the clinic premises and headed for where he said to be going. We quickly helped my mother to the car with the help of some nurses. We took her to the teaching hospital and met Bankole there. He took over everything from us and made sure the surgery was done as early as possible. While in the surgery room, we were outside waiting and Uche was calling almost every minute to ask about her. This renewed behavior from Uche is something. She’s getting more caring and winning more people in my family to herself or so I thought except one person who loves Funmi too much. Aramide: So what’s going on with you and Funmi. Me: I’ll rather not talk about that now. There is another pressing issue. Aramide: What’s that? Me: What did mum ate before her illness started, and who prepared it? Aramide: I was in school and so was Vera. Praise told us they both eat rice prepared by her. What’s the problem? Me: Somebody did poison her and I want to know why. Aramide: Hmm Me: You know something? Aramide: Not much but Vera and praise does. Me: Where is praise by the way? Aramide: She’s at home Me: Who’s been taking care of her? Aramide: Vera does that. She goes home every day. Me: I need to speak with Vera (We called Vera from where she was talking with Temmy in the car). Vera do you know who poisoned mum? Vera: Praise told me she saw Dad putting watery sugar in her drink. Me: Watery sugar? She had a drink that day? Vera: Yeah, Dad brought those drinks saying somebody was celebrating his new car at his work place. Me: What more do you know? Vera: Well, I overheard Dad telling somebody on phone “he’ll soon be around, they’ll both come” Aramide: I think he was referring to you Me: How? I’m still not getting it. Aramide: Remember I told you mum wanted to see you urgently? Me: Yeah Aramide: It was him that told me, not mum. Me: Meaning he’s the one that wanted me to come, for what? Vera: I think Dad is involved in a ritual stuff. It has to do with him having a male child and maybe money too who knows and I think he needed both of you to do some rites for him as twins. Aramide: He was going to use mum as bait. Vera: They’ll tell you to do something if you must save your mother. Me: Damn! Are you serious about this? How did you come about this? Vera: Well my father took Praise for a kid, and that made him discuss anything while she’s there. Me: Does mum knows about this? Aramide: I don’t think so. Vera: She might know a little but not all. Me: This means you are not save any longer Aramide. Vera: Brother Taiwo, I think she should go with you. Me: I think so too. But let mum get well first. Please when your dad eventually got to know we are here, he’s going to be very angry, do not argue or confront him, okay. Just keep saying sorry. Vera: He can’t guess where we are, this hospital is bigger than that. The surgery went successfully but we were told she lost more blood than expected, so she was going to be watched for two days or more before they can discharge her. Around 6pm in the evening while Temmy and I were contemplating on where to lodge for the night, Uche surprisingly came back bringing us dinner. She insisted on staying with us till my mother gets discharged and she got to know about my story of two mothers. The act of care from Uche was making Aramide unease because she obviously wanted Funmi and I back together. Meanwhile, I’ve not heard anything from Funmi since she broke up with me close to two weeks now. All my effort to reach her was frustrated by her as she will either ignore my call or switch off her phone and I was starting to get used to life without her. My mother was discharged after two days and we took her home. That was when we discovered her husband did not come home since he left the clinic according to Vera and Praise who were at home. After staying with her for some hours, buying her all the necessary stuffs, we decided to drop Uche off in Lagos before we’ll head back home but Aramide insisted I visit Funmi and settle things with her. I saw the idea as counterproductive as I felt she does not want the relationship again. If she does, she would have at least allowed me to explain things better. Aramide was however adamant to the extent of her calling Sam (Funmi’s cousin) to get the proper direction to her house. I do not have option than to go to her now even though I don’t know what I’ll meet there. I wish and pray everything is settled, either positively or negatively so I can be totally free. |

EPISODE ELEVEN MFYL PR2 Goethe, Johan Wolfgang Von said and I qoute, "Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least". At that very moment, Uche's security was a topmost issue above what my mum or any other person might say afterwards. At least I'll be sure she’s safe as leaving her alone there might not give me rest of mind until she eventually gets to her destination. In the same vein, Goethe taught, "Treat a man as he is and he'll remain as he is. Treat a man as he can and should be and he will become as he can and should be". I've always have bad report against Uche, maybe it's because that's what I chose to see in her, but she deserve to seen with the righteous microscope too. Most times we love people not because they are entirely good but because we chose to see the good in them instead and that I'm going to be doing with her. I'll like to see her good side as I'm sure she's not the 'bad' egg I've always tag her to be. Getting home, I was ready to protect her against any behavioral bully that might be melted to her but surprisingly, my mother and Debby especially whom I never knew was around, welcome and treated her so nicely. Debby took her to her room to change and have her bath. I dropped Temmy off at his place before coming back home. My mum had prepared meal for us and I met Uche and Debby already eating. My mum was a little upset Temmy did not eat before leaving but she also understood it was late. I had my dinner after which my mum and I excused us to her room leaving Debby and Uche in the sitting room. Mum: I hope she understands Yoruba? Me: Very well, she was born and raised in Yorubaland. Mum: Good, she seems like a good girl. Me: She is mum, and thanks for allowing her to sleep over. Mum: You made the right choice dear, I would have been totally angry with you, had you left her there all alone in that situation. You met her on camp right? Me: No mum, she has always been a friend from school. We studied the same course and she was my project partner. Mum: Oh, you are that close? Me: Yes mum, we worked together in the final year. Mum: Good, even if you didn't know her, I'll still want you to do the same thing. Though one needs to be careful in such situation but we are indebted to God dear. See how God has been using strangers to bless us. You went to a place where we have no relation yet you met with a man that sees you more like a son. Me: Uncle Ben, mum he's really nice to me. Mum: That's what I'm Saying, though Daddy Orire linked you to him but he has taken it more than a relation would have done. Me: He even gave me two hundred thousand naira to take care of my mum, though I'm thinking he thought it's you. Mum: Even if it's me, have we met before? No. Yet he's doing that. Dear, God has been helping us at all angles and we must always help people too. Me: Yes ma'am Mum: Anytime you have, please give to those who lack, help people in every way you can and don't forget "the hand that gives always stay on top". Me: You've always taught me that mum, and I think it’s part of me now. Mum: That's good my son, and the God I serve day and night will never leave you. Me: Amen Mum: That being said, we need to be very careful of the way we approach situations, we can't be negligent of the devices of the devil. Me: Mum! Mum: I know you don't like to hear such things, everything is superstition to you. I don't know if you don't read your Bible. Me: Mum I read the Bible; I just don't like to be entangled with enemies, witches and wizard of a thing. I believe in God and I know he's sufficient for me. Mum: Yes he's more than sufficient but have you read where the Bible says we wrestle not against flesh or blood but against powers, principalities and rulers of darkness? Me: Yes mum, it was in Apostle Paul's letter to the Corinthian church I guess. Mum: Good, then listen to me. I wish your twin sister is also here. Me: What's wrong mum? Mum: I've been having series of wild dreams about both of you. It seems somebody is trying to force you to do something that will later harm you both. Debby also had similar dreams and we've been praying about it since. When your twin sister called to tell me day before yesterday that your mother is sick and has been admitted, I felt so disturbed in my spirit. To make the matter worse, Debby had a dream suggesting she might die. Me: You are scaring me mum, while will she die? Mum: Just listen, we went on a marathon prayer after that, which is why you could not reach me on phone yesterday. Me: So what's the way forward mum? Mum: Tell your sister, both of you must not do anything fetish. You must not be involved in anything contrary to the Bible which is why I insisted you must come home first. Me: You know I can't do such mum. Mum: Yes I know, but you might be forced to do anything if you see your mother dying. Please I beg you in the name of God, your children will listen to you, don't do anything suspicious okay. Me: Okay mum, I'm scared though. Mum: Don't be, just call me first before you do anything. Me: Surely I'll do that (my phone rang and it's Aramide). It's Aramide Mum: Pick it, maybe I can speak with her. (I picked the call) Me: Hello Aramide Aramide: Will, where are you? Me: I'm at home now, I'll get to you tomorrow Aramide: Oh, I was expecting you today. Me: It's late before I got home. Aramide: Will, she's getting worse and I'm scared Me: Cool down dear, I'll join you soon okay. He the doctors Saud anything about what's wrong with her? Aramide: No, they kept saying all the results came negative. They are transferring her to teaching hospital tomorrow. Me: Damn! Where were you before? Aramide: One private hospital like that. It's was my father that brought her there. Me: I'll prefer they transfer her to teaching hospital so they can carry out necessary test to ascertain what is wrong. I don't believe in all those result came negative scam. Aramide: But my father is saying no Me: Why? Aramide: He said teaching hospital is too costly, that he'll take her to his native doctor. Me: Native what? (My mum snatched the phone from me) I could hear her telling Aramide never to allow him do that. She told her to insist on going to teaching hospital before she gave the phone back to me. Aramide: Hello Will, what should I do? I'm really scared. Me: Listen Aramide, meet the doctor in charge tonight if you can, first thing tomorrow morning, transfer her to the teaching hospital. I would have prefer tonight self. Aramide: But there's no money to do that. Me: What's of Vera? Aramide: She's here Me: Good, I'll transfer fifty thousand naira to you now. Ask her to withdraw it very early tomorrow. By the time I come, we'll settle the remaining bill. Aramide: Okay Will. My father has already settled the bill here. Me: Alright, please call me if there are any changes. I'll meet you there tomorrow morning. Aramide: Okay Will (the line went off) Mum: You see what I was telling you? I know something is not right Me: Funny, how can doctors say they can't see anything, not even abnormal temperature? Mum: We'll keep praying; she will live. I hate and detest superstition with all vehement. In fact that anything religion or fetish is a no for me. I am a spiritual being not a religious one. Religion has blocked so many people's rational thinking ability to the extent they cannot think right again. I'm happy my Jesus hates religion which was why he's always against the activities of the Pharisee and the Sadducee of this world that are chronic religionist whitewashed and blindly believe in rituals and sacrifices instead of doing the right thing. How on earth can someone refuse an equipped teaching hospital to native doctor who would probably asked them to buy goats and what have you to be sacrificed to a useless stiff, deaf and dumb, Carpenter created statue they call god. Well, the worst enemy a man will ever fight against is himself. I transferred the money to Aramide and gave Temmy update on when we'll move the following morning. I've already had my bath and was going to call Temmy when Debby knocked and entered. Debby: BB good morning Me: Good morning sweetheart, how was your night? Debby: Wao! You called me sweetheart Me: I don't call you that before? Debby: I've never heard you saying it, or I can't remember. Me: You should know you are my sweetheart now, my second love. Debby: Really? Who's the first? Me: My mum of course, I knew her before you came around. Debby: Hmm, I thought it is aunty Uche Me: Oh oh, where is that coming from? Debby: Is she not your girlfriend? Me: No, she's only a friend Debby: She's nice though Me: Really? You know that in just one night? Debby: Yes, she's been friendly and homely. She even helped me to wash the dishes yesterday and sweep the floor this morning. Me: Common Debby, that's not right! She only sleeps over here. Damn! How can you allow your guest to work? Debby: BB she insisted. We did it together Me: I see why you said she's nice. Debby: It's not just because of that, she's really nice and I like her. Mum seems to like her too. Me: Mum is only being nice the way a mother should be. Debby: Believe me; she's nicer to her. They've been talking since. Me: They are talking? Debby: Yeah, she'll come back right? Me: I don't know o. Hope she has freshen up and ready to move? Debby: Since. You better date her on time before mum remember Daddy Orire's anonymous daughter. Me: Funny both of you. Excuse me, I need to call Temmy. We embarked on the journey and entering the teaching hospital premises, we discovered they were yet to move there as we could not sight them where we should. We headed back to the described hospital after dropping Uche off at the motor Park and met a rather shocking scene. |
Thou was not abandoned eee. Mostly read without comment. Keep writing and composing and you'll be getting better every day. I'm not a grammarian so I can't criticize, to me you are getting better. Nice one. |
KomonSense:Lols. Bro I'm a guy who naturally expect the worst but always hope for the best. I'm not entire good myself so I don't expect perfection from people. It'll be hard for my heart to be broken naturally, but it is possible presently. |
fumbimary:Thanks Sister Oluwafumbi Mary. (hope I'm correct). Maybe I should use one of your name as next character. Though Mary is already there ![]() |
EPISODE TEN MFYL PR2 My week couldn’t get any more worse with the news that my biological mother is seriously ill. The tone at which Aramide delivered it is very scary and made me want to know what the real situation is. Temmy: Who is that? Me: Aramide, she said my mother in serious ill Temmy: Mum is ill? Me: My biological mother Temmy: Oh, what’s the nature of her sickness? Me: Aramide said she cannot ascertain the nature of the sickness but she’s been admitted in to the hospital. Temmy: Admitted? It’s that much? Me: According to her it’s serious and she said my mother is requesting to see me. Temmy: Then go see her Me: Yeah I will, but she’s insisting its better tomorrow. Temmy: Tomorrow? That’s not feasible Me: That’s what I said but she insisted. Temmy: That means we have to go to the secretariat earlier tomorrow. We’ll leave afterwards. Me: How do we get permission? Temmy: Free that, they can’t expect we’ll start working just like that. One week break from the camp horror is not bad. Me: I’m really scared bro Temmy: Don’t be, let’s just pray, I’m sure she’ll recover back. Try to tell Uncle Ben on time. Me: That will be tomorrow morning Temmy: Yeah, it’s already late. Tomorrow soon came and we were the first to arrive at the secretariat which made it easier for us to have our registration as early as 9AM. The only “but” was the bank officials who were not on ground until 10am for the account opening. We left the secretariat and were ready to start moving on our 9 to 11 hours journey if we are to be at the accepted speed limit. Surprisingly, Uncle Ben gave me two hundred thousand naira to take care of my mother asking me to give him feedback and take my time until she’s fully recovered. Although I felt he thought I’m talking about my mother known to Daddy Orire. All in all, I was happy to have the money but it raised more questions on why Uncle Ben was that nice to me. It looks more that just because Daddy Orire linked me to him, it’s more like he has a special interest. I wish I knew what both he and Daddy Orire are up to. We were already driving out of the compound when I received a call from Uche. Me: Hello Uche, how are you? Uche: I’m fine; you did not call me yesterday evening. Me: I’m sorry about that, what’s up? Uche: I’m fine, I had my registration yesterday and I’ve opened the account this morning. Me: Oh that’s good; we’ve done all that too. Uche: Are you going home? Me: Yeah, I have a pressing issue to attend to, we are already moving Uche: Oh wait! Where are you? Me: Still in the streets, why? Uche: I’m currently in the garage; please pick me up when you get there. Me: Which motor park is that? Uche: It’s close to that junction you dropped me off that day. I’ll be waiting. Me: Alright, but we aren’t going to Lagos though Uche: No problem. We picked Uche at the described garage and embark on our journey. While on the road, my mum called and said she has heard about my biological mother’s sickness. Me: Who told you mum? Mum: Aramide called me and besides I’ve had the feeling something like that might happen. Me: How do you mean mum? Mum: When you are back I’ll tell you everything. Me: Okay mum, I’ll come when I leave the hospital Mum: No, come home first. Me: Mum! Aramide said she wanted to see me and that today is the best time. It’s even scary mum; don’t you think I should see her first? Mum: I know she wanted to see you and I know the reason why, which is why you must come home first Me: It’ll be late before we get home though Mum: I know that too, but you must come home first. Me: Okay mum, I’ve heard you. Mum: Opeyemi please o, come home first o. Me: Mum! I’ve heard you really. Mum: What of Temiloluwa? Me: He’s the one driving Mum: Okay, you guys must not speed beyond the limit o. My prayers are with you. Me: Thanks mum (The line went off). Temmy mum asked me to come home first. Temmy: Hope there is no problem? Me: I’m even more confused now Temmy: She must have her reasons Me: Sure she does, she is so adamant I must come home first. Uche: Are you guys going somewhere else? Me: Yeah, I need to see my mother; she’s ill and admitted into the hospital. Uche: I don’t understand; your mother asked you to come home first and you want to see your sick mother? I’m lost. Temmy: Uche you can’t understand yet, maybe later. Uche: Alright, hope you guys will pass Ore? Temmy: Sure, you’ll drop there? Uche: Yeah, I’ll take Lagos bus from there. Temmy: Alright no problem Uche’s phone rang and she spoke for a while with mixture of English and Igbo, even Yoruba sometimes. I wish I could speak at least three indigenous languages apart from Yoruba and two more international languages apart from English but no one to guide me. She came off the call and asked for a favour. Uche: Will I need a favour from you Me: Alright I’m listening. Uche: I need a place I can sleep over tonight Me: Why, what’s wrong? Uche: My mum just told me nobody will be at home by the time I’ll get home and I won’t be able to get the key until tomorrow. Me: Oh oh, you did not inform them before you left home? Uche: I did call them and they told me my brother will be at home but now she said he’s going back to school for an urgent reason. Me: So how do we go about it? Uche: You are the man, you suggest Me: I would have said you should sleep over at our side so we can drop you over at Ibadan when we are leaving tomorrow but that would be like you going backwards. Uche: So what do you think? Me: What about we lodge you in a hotel at Ore till tomorrow, so you can board Lagos bus from there. Temmy: That’s a good idea Uche: Where do I get money to do that? Temmy: Don’t worry about that Uche: Okay, thanks guys, but will I be save there? Me: Of course you will. We’ll look for a better hotel there Temmy: I know one that is located close to the Lagos garage. It looks good. Uche: Okay, thank you so much guys. I understand the reason why Temmy was in total support of lodging her in a hotel. He knows going home with us will create some after effects especially from my mum. she loves strangers and adore anybody we call friend but she’s been critical of female friends ever since the issue of trying to match make Daddy Orire’s daughter (Lola) and I started. Suddenly all ladies are trying to marry me in her sight. I’ve been looking for ways to make her happy and also be happy but marrying a woman of my choice might make her sad while marrying her choice might dent my dream marriage plan. I know it’s my home and I should be responsible for everything, but I felt my mum might have her reasons which are always or mostly cogent. Apart from that, she’s more mature, more experienced, far more spiritual and I know she can’t push me into fire. I pray God help me so she can like whoever I choose. The current situation with Funmi is not even making it easier because I was planning on introducing her to my mum during this service year but that is just a dream now. We stopped a little at Benin to have our lunch while I took over the steering from Temmy. Some distance outside Benin not too far from Ore, we met a heavy traffic that took us more than one hour to scale through. It was so annoying to discover the holdup was caused by police men who blocked most part of the road with woods and tyres leaving only a little portion for car to pass in such a way that nobody can move fast. It would have been a little fair if they were not holding some vehicles on the road right there to ask for whatever they are asking for. Sighting them from afar off, we pulled a fast one by wearing our NYSC caps, though Uche was already fully kitted on “six over seven” (i.e. without the khaki long sleeve shirt). We did that to win some sympathy vote from them, maybe they will respect our uniform and allow us to leave on time, though the vehicle documents are completed and up to date. Our tactics did work as the police man just hailed us saying “Corpers wee” to which we responded “Waa” as he passed us beside the vehicle in front of us. Moving closer to Ore we started to notice that vehicles coming were having leaves and tree branches hung to their wipers and some to their mirror. The only reason that could happen is if there is riot ahead, most especially students protesting. We stopped by a man selling palm wine on the road and asked him what the situation ahead was like to which he advised us to have some leaves hanged at our wipers and prepare some Naira change to spare because the bike riders are rioting in the town in response to the police killing of one of them over what they said was bribe. We followed his advice and hung some leaves on the wipers and side mirror as every car behind us followed suit. It was getting late already and I noticed the insecurity feeling from Uche. Me: Uche what’s wrong? Why are you breathing loudly and periodically? Uche: I’m fine Will. Me: Common Uche, tell me what it is Uche: I’m sorry Will, but can you guys stay with me tonight? Temmy: What? Uche: Temmy I’m scared. These people are causing trouble and extorting money from people during the day time, who knows what they’ll do at night. Me: I believe the hotel will have good security Uche: Are you sure about that? Me: They are supposed to; by the way if they can harm you, then staying with you won’t stop them. They’ll probably harm all of us. Uche: I’m really scared. Temmy: Will, she’s right, we can’t just leave her here alone. Me: Well, the only other alternative I know is to follow us down home Temmy: If she’ll want to Uche: Why not? I’ll sleep over at your side please. I can’t stay alone in this town. Me: Okay no problem, I better call mum we are coming with a friend. Temmy: Nice idea. So Uche is sleeping over at my place, hmm. Thanks guys. I hope you are still finding it interesting, hope my boring life during the time I composed episodes 10-20 is not affecting it (yet) Please comment. Maybe I should invite Mr Obinnau and Mr Lalasticala. |
ChemicalReaction:Nope, not at all. Not even close to my love story. Some acts there though are what I exactly faced before, especially the camp part. But the story is pure imagination. Hope you are good? |
EPISODE NINE MFYL PR2 The first set of pictures showed her while she was contesting for Miss NYSC for her platoon. Even though she never mentioned it that she contested for the beauty pageant, the pictures were actually stunning and adorable. Other pictures showed she did won the contest and I felt goose bumps while viewing them. The shocker came when she was pictured with a muscular guy. My first thought was that the guy is the macho man of their camp but seeing her pecking him more than once makes me feel like going to toilet. Temmy was right, she has actually found another guy and that’s why our reduction in communication becomes an issue. I continued to read the message Janet sent to accompany the pictures and it goes thus; “Will, I’m sorry to be the one saying this but your cherished angel has become somebody else’s angel. The guy was the macho man contestant for their platoon, though the guy did not win but the chemistry between them is open to everybody. I took my time to study them so I won’t give you false info because I know it will make you devastated but I think you deserve to know the truth. On the other hand, it might just be a camp fling and I wish you both the best. Call me I’ve got news for you”. She’s right because I was highly devastated. I personally don’t just conclude like that without finding out the truth, but the fact she broke up with me is enough proof that the news is true. By the way, the pictures were too glaring and I don’t see a reason why Janet will want to blackmail her since she’s no more on to me. I couldn’t hold it; I put a call through to Temmy asking him to meet me up on the field. I showed him the message and the pictures sent to me by Janet to which he was more shock than I was. Temmy: I said it, but I wasn’t hoping to be right. This is going too far menh! Me: Temmy I don’t actually know what to do Temmy: Try calling her again. I put a call through to her but she wasn’t picking up just like it has been over a week now. Me: She’s not picking up. Temmy: Maybe we should use another number to call her Me: What’s the point? She doesn’t want to speak with me. Temmy: This is ridiculous, and it’s unlike her really. Something is wrong somewhere because this is really too funny to be true. Try calling Janet to confirm again. Me: I’ll call Janet but there is nothing to prove again. Those pictures are enough evidence. (I put a call through to Janet) Janet: Hello baby boy Me: Jane what’s up? Janet: I’m okay, the way you are sounding it’s like you’ve view those pictures Me: Yes I have, what news did you say you have for me? Janet: Which one did you want first, the good or the bad? Me: I already have the bad news, tell me the good. Janet: Well the bad news isn’t completed but I’ll start with the good. Me: Okay I’m listening Janet: I’ll be getting married in the next three months. Me: Wao! So fast, I thought you’ll wait a little after your intro. Janet: My man wants to start processing my paper, he said the earlier we do it, the faster its likely going to be. Me: That’s good. I’m happy for you dear. Congratulations. Janet: Thanks dear. Your own will come too Me: Yeah thanks Janet: Hmm don’t give up just like that Will, even if it’s not Funmi, you’ll find a great lady to marry because you are a great guy yourself. Me: Thanks Jane, so what’s the other news? Janet: I’ll prefer to send it on Whatsapp with pictures Me: Send the picture but tell me what it is Janet: Are you sure? Me: Positive. Janet: Alright. Well, we all initially thought it was a drama or maybe they were just being naughty but we realize it’s too real to be ordinary play. Me: What’s real? Janet: That guy proposed to Funmi with a diamond ring Me: Wao. Proposed just after two weeks of meeting each other? That’s will be the fastest proposal story I’ve heard in my life. Diamond ring means the guy is very rich Janet: Yeah, I heard his father is a popular politician Me: It’s alright, so what happened? Janet: Well Funmi accepted his proposal. Me: I thought you said it wasn’t a play let Janet: No it wasn’t, she accepted and they kiss for real. Me: They accept kissing on your camp? Janet: I guess the officials thought they were merely acting. Although I strongly believe they know about it because the guy is highly influential. Me: Hmm, getting engaged to a guy you met in just two weeks? I’m sure they must have been having affair before now. Well, that’s good, may God bless their union Janet: What did you say? Me: I said may God bless their union. Janet: Oh oh! Where is that coming from? Me: Janet I can’t kill myself because of a lady now. Please send in the pictures so I can have something to hold on to Janet: Are you sure you still want to see them? Me: Yes I need it. It will be the evidence. Janet: Okay I’ll send it immediately after this call. But please take it easy o. The way you are acting as if it’s not affecting you is scaring me. Me: Thanks Jane, I’ll be fine. So how do we get the venue for your wedding? Janet: Common, I’ll send you your IV Me: Alright I’ll be expecting it. Thanks Jane. Jane: Please take it easy o Me: I’m good, thanks a lot Janet: What of Temmy? He’ll be in good position to handle this Me: He’s here; let me give the phone to him. I gave the phone to Termmy while they speak on. For the first time in my Life, I almost shamefully shed tears because of a Lady, if not for the quick intervention of Temmy who noticed the abnormal behavior on time. Temmy: Common stop that rubbish you are about to do. Me: Temmy I am a fool Temmy: No you are not bro Me: What the damn did I eat that gave me such delusional confidence? Temmy: What are you talking about? Me: How do I believe a lady that is higher than me financially will fall in love with me just like that? Temmy: Damn! That’s the worst thing I’ve ever heard you say since I’ve known you. That’s pure low self-esteem. Me: She got engaged to another guy. Temmy: Janet told me, but I don’t believe it, I think it’s a misconception. Me: Kissing in public is also a misconception? Temmy: They kissed? I switched on my mobile data and allow the message to enter then I show him the pictures. Temmy: Oh my God! This is not Funmi! Me: Maybe she’s a twin too Temmy: I mean something is wrong somewhere. In just three weeks? Stuffs like that only happen in Nollywood, this is not possible menh! Me: I’m thinking they’ve been dating before now. Well, welcome to reality Temmy: That’s a possibility, because three weeks is too small for any lady to accept proposal like that. But she doesn’t look like somebody that was cheating before. Mehn, I honestly don’t know how to approach this Me: I think I know what to do Temmy: What’s that? Me: I have to protect myself from total heart break therefore I’ll block her on every platform where we are connected. Thank God she did not want to hear from me before. Temmy: That will be counterproductive. Me: I’m not going to beg her Temmy. Temmy: Of course, that will be suicidal. But blocking her will be childish. Me: What do you suggest I do then? Temmy: Just let her go from your heart. Me: Just like that? Temmy this doesn’t look real. Oh oh, just a call, I need a break and that’s all? Temmy: Let it go Me: Alright. I pray this doesn’t turn me into a bad boy. Temmy: You won’t, I won’t let it. I tried applying Temmy’s advice of totally ignoring her but it was too difficult for me. I see her almost every time. “Is she playing prank on me just like she did with her cousin? Damn! This is a play too far” The following day, we passed out of the camp and luckily for us, we were given the requested PPA (Place of Primary Assignment) contrary to the rumour we heard that everybody will serve in schools. Mark was however posted to a school in place we were told is on waters. They’ll have to board boat to get there. Both Ifunaya and Uche were posted to Porthacourt metropolis though of different Local governments to each other and to where the company we were posted to is located. Before we could make any move, the manager called and asked us to wait till he’ll come to pick us. We left the camp after he was done discussing with the RSM who is now friendly with everybody unlike his usual way of shouting at us. I could even sight him consoling some female corps members that were crying because they were posted to islands. We dropped both Ifunaya and Uche off to their respective destination before we headed down to the manager’s resident to meet a more beautiful lodge they’ve prepared for us. The cables had been fixed with the TV dish now installed. I also surprisingly met my car clean with the engine sounding great. Manager: Do you like the way she sounds? Me: So great, what did you do to her? Manager: We had her serviced yesterday. We took her to their company’s outlet here. Me: Wao! Thank you sir, using their company is really expensive. Manager: Not really, we are a regular customer there, so there is discount. Me: Thank you so much sir Temmy: Mehn, the car wash must be a professional Manager: We used the company’s car wash Me: Thanks so much sir Manager: You can be calling me Uncle Ben. Ben for Benjamin Me: Sir, I’ll prefer Daddy Ben Ben: (Laughing) Do I look that old? Just call me Uncle Ben. That’s what everybody calls me. Me: Thank you sir. Ben: Whatever you guys needed just let me know. We’ll sign and stamp your letters tomorrow so you can complete your registration at the LGA NYSC secretariat Me: Thank you sir. The environment and the reception suddenly made us forget all we went through on camp. The lodge was well furnished and the fact there is DSTV decoder to watch matches and Mnet series makes it more attractive. Temmy and I decided to be sleeping in the same room instead of separate ones thereby leaving the two other bedrooms empty. After the dinner, we were watching “The Avengers” when I received a call from Aramide. Me: Hello twin sis Aramide: Hello dear, how are you? Me: I’m fine, now in my PPA Aramide: You were posted to the company you told me about? Me: Yeah, Temmy and I. Aramide: That’s great. Will, mum is ill and it’s very serious Me: What? What’s wrong with her? Aramide: I don’t know the nature yet, but she has been admitted into the hospital. Me: Damn! Will she be okay? Aramide: She will by God’s grace but she’s asking to see you Will. Me: She’s asking to see me? Aramide: Yes Me: But she knows I’m far away here Aramide: When are you coming home? Me: I wasn’t planning to come home anytime soon, we were not given any break. Aramide: You’ll have to come; she really wants to see you Me: Menh! This is scary! Okay, I’ll come next tomorrow or by weekend. Aramide: Why not tomorrow? Me: I’ve not done my registration and I don’t know how long it’ll take Aramide: It’ll be better if you come tomorrow Me: You are scaring me! Okay, I’ll see if I can make it tomorrow. Aramide: Alright, let me know your movement. |
Dat9jakid:Wao, Bro I thought I did. Sorry Bro. It's like it's a sin to tag many people together here, I've been banned 3 times since this new season started. I just got off one this evening. |

EPISODE EIGHT MFYL PR2 During the morning parade, I noticed Uche was avoiding me or maybe I thought so. One major figure I was knee on seeing is Ifunaya. As the general parade was going on, she did appeared in her white short and top even though most of us were in green long sleeve khaki jacket because of the rain that fell overnight bringing about a high rated cold. She does not look disturbed by the cold as she approached me with a smile. Yes she’s beautiful and I like her but I wasn’t going to let that distract me from the reality as I’m going to be applying Apostle Paul’s words “Putting every thought under subjection”. Ifunaya: Good morning Will, you are still not looking good. What exactly is wrong? Me: Good morning how was your night? Ifunaya: It was great, how was yours? Me: Cool. Nice performance yesterday. They announced this morning that you guys came first. I’m sure your contribution speaks for your platoon. Ifunaya: Yeah, I was named the best solo dancer Me: Great! Well deserving. Ifunaya: Thanks dear. So what’s the problem? Me: I saw your message yesterday. Ifunaya: Yeah, is that why you are not looking good? Me: No, not at all, just want to say thank you, Ifunaya: You are welcome dear, so what’s the problem? Me: There is no problem but I’ll like to apologize to you. Ifunaya: Apologize for what? Me: Two things, one; you might not like what I’m about to say. Ifunaya: And two? Me: I’m sorry if I’ve been leading you on since Ifunaya: (Smiles) I’m listening Me: The thing is I really like you but it was wrong of me to get too close Ifunaya: Were you the one that got close to me? Me: Yeah, we sort of got close to each other Ifunaya: Not really Will. I got close to you because I like you since that night we met. Me: But I’m the one who was drawing you afterwards. Ifunaya: (Smiling) You were just following my clue and I think it’s normal for a guy. Me: Even if it’s true I was following your clue, I did it intentionally because I found you attractive. Ifunaya: You are in a relationship right? Me: Yes, I was. Ifunaya: Was? Me: Yeah, she broke up with me yesterday evening. Ifunaya: Before or after we parted? Me: It was after. That’s not the problem here though, I just don’t want to be leading you on, I’m sorry. Ifunaya: You know I’m engaged for marriage Me: Really? Ifunaya: Yeah, we’ll be having our traditional marriage after camp. Me: That soon? Ifunaya: Yeah, it’s supposed to be before the camp but we had to postpone it because of my fiancé transfer at work. He was transferred to Lagos. Me: Wao! Why then did you get so close to me? You are putting me in trouble Ifunaya: (Smiling) Not really. I like you but was not planning to date you. Even if you had asked me out, I would have turned you down. I love your company and I think you are a good person. I discovered I’ve started developing feelings for you, so I understand you. Me: Wao, I’m really sorry for misreading you. Ifunaya: We both misread each other dear and we were both getting carried away but I’m happy we have this talk. I think we are good now right? Me: Yeah, I’m relieved. Ifunaya: Me too. Is that lady (Pointing to Uche who was looking at us but took away her gaze when I look at her direction) Me: Uche? Ifunaya: Yeah, is she your girlfriend that broke up with you? Me: No, Uche is my friend Ifunaya: It doesn’t seem so Me: She’s my friend; we are from the same school, same department. Ifunaya: Why then does she feel jealous whenever I’m around you? Me: I’m not sure, but I’ll try to get the reason why Ifunaya: From her? Me: Yeah Ifunaya: That might be rude. Asking her directly might get her offended. Me: She’s not even talking to me again. I’ll have to talk to her because I need to clarify everything. Ifunaya: No problem. So how do you settle your relationship issue with your girlfriend? Me: I’m really not sure. She won’t pick my calls. Ifunaya: Don’t worry she’ll come around. We ladies can be like that sometimes. Just make sure you visit her after camp. Me: Thanks, that means a lot. Ifunaya: I’m here whenever you need to talk. Me: Thank you. I thought you are on parade. Ifunaya: Not anymore. They reduced their number and I was happy to exclude myself. Me: Funny. I just don’t have interest in any of the events. Ifunaya: If you were allowed to have your own event, what would it have being? Me: Scrabble. I love it so much. Ifunaya: Funny you. Scrabble won’t give you any stress Me: It makes you to think fast. The practice parade continues while Ifunaya and I continue to discuss as Uche persist in avoiding me. A day to leave the camp and Uche was still avoiding me while Funmi continue to ignore my call for five days plus now. I finally got hold of Uche when everybody was trying to save their loads at the NCCF worship shed. She attempted avoiding me as usual but I held her hand and pull her back. She faced me and gave me a surprise hug that sent me into confuse mode. How can somebody who has been avoiding me all this while hug me so passionately like that as if she’s been expecting me for a long time? Ladies are indeed a rare species, understanding them is like trying to count the sand at the beach. The hug reminds me of the way she hugged me after her accident. I pushed her out a little and ask what the problem was. Me: Uche what’s the problem? Why have you been avoiding me all these while? Uche: I’m sorry, I couldn’t face you Me: Why? What did I do wrong? Me: You did nothing wrong and I’m sorry for the way I acted that night. Me: It’s okay Uche, what’s the problem? Uche: Let’s just say I developed feelings for you but you always see me as a bad girl. It makes me sad and jealous when you preferred a new lady to me. Me: Common Uche, we’ve discussed this and I even thought you were disturbing me because of Janet. Uche: I’ve like you before I know you with Janet. Knowing you are close to Janet only makes it look like that’s the reason why. Me: Hmm Uche: I needed your help concerning my project by that time; I sincerely don’t know how to go about it then. Me: Uche I know you are brilliant, your final grades speaks volume, so I don’t believe you needed any help. Uche: That part of engineering usually gives me problem. I’m the one that asked our supervisor to join our project together. Me: Hmm, and that was successful. Uche: It was during those moments of working together I developed a strong feeling for you, but you were not even looking at my side at all. You were instead focused on Janet and your Rich girlfriend. Me: You can’t blame me for that Uche. The first impression you gave me wasn’t good. Especially with the party, that really made me despised you a lot. Uche: I’m sorry about the party, I never intended it to be that way, but you could have at least be my friend then, instead you were always neglecting and treating me like trash. Sincerely at this point, I started to feel guilty because her allegations are not entirely false. I did not know what to say or how to handle it. Me: But we are friends now Uche. Uche: Yes we are, and I’m happy about it until that lady came along. Me: Ifunaya is just a friend like you. Uche: It doesn’t seem so and you are always concentrated on her Me: I’m sorry if it looks that way. Uche: Do you mean that? Me: Yes I am very sorry about everything. Uche: But this isn’t fair Me: What’s not fair? Uche: Why are you just coming today? Me: Uche you’ve been avoiding me like plague Uche: But you are a man, you always know how to get to a lady if you want to, just like you did now. Me: I am lucky today because there are no many options for you to run. Uche: It’s not fair because after tomorrow, I might not get to see you as often again. Me: It won’t be too good to be seeing each other often too, remember I’m in a relationship. Uche: You and your rich girlfriend are still dating? Me: Yeah, why won’t we? Uche: I’m just asking. You guys really tried then. Me: Don’t worry; we’ll be visiting each other. Uche: What if I’m posted on water, will you still visit me? Me: You will redeploy, or are you planning on staying on water? Uche: Maybe, it might be fun. Me: Well, you’ll be coming over to city then. Uche: Hmm, so you won’t come? Me: Uche, staying and travelling on water might be fun for you but it’s not for me. You’ll be coming to the city, don’t worry I’ll be paying for transport whenever you come. Uche: What if you are the one posted on water and you are not able to redeploy. Me: If I can’t redeploy from the place to the city, I’ll redeploy from the whole state. Uche: And you’ll leave me here? Me: I left my fiancée at Lagos to come here and besides, I have phobia for water, I can’t be travelling on water every now and then. Uche: Fiancée? Hmm. Anyway, you promise we’ll be seeing each other right? Me: Friends for life, I promise. Uche: Nice, I’m happy to hear that Me: You are very funny Uche; you made it sound like a big deal. Uche: Don’t worry you can’t understand. Me: Hmm, please make me understand o. Anyway, which one should I help you with? Uche: I’m done; I can’t pack everything now, since I’ll still bath tomorrow. Me: Are you planning on going along with your buckets? Uche: Why not? I don’t know where I’m going yet. My concern is how to get my kits ironed for tomorrow. Me: That’s easy, just fold them perfectly and place them in between your bed and the mattress. Uche: Won’t the bed pattern show on the clothes? Me: No. Place a cloth on the bed before placing the uniforms and then your mattress on it. By the time you are sleeping, you are automatically ironing it. Uche: Hmm Engineer Will the inventor (We both laughed) Talking about how she responded to my relationship and calling Funmi my fiancée, I hope she did not know anything about our breakup. If she’s indeed the one feeding Funmi details about me here, it will kill this new opinion I’m having towards her. Later that day, I received an unusual call from Janet. Me: Wao Janet, it’s been a long time. How is camp over there? Janet: Fine Will, you just abandoned me, it’s not fair o. Me: Common Jane, you know I need to tread softly before your man cut my head off. Janet: Hmm but we are still friends now Me: Don’t mind me, hope you are good? Janet: I’m fine. I sent you some pictures and messages on Whatsapp, have you seen it? Me: Nope, I’ve been managing my battery since yesterday, so no browsing. Janet: Alright. Check it but don’t freak out okay. I’ve explained all I think you should know under the pictures. Me: What’s in the pictures Jane? Janet: When you see it, let’s talk later. Call me o, I’ve got news for you. Bye. Me: Alright thanks. “What might she be sending that can make me freak out? I hope it’s not nude”. Curiously, I put on my mobile data even though my phone’s battery was below 30%. Numerous messages did entered but I went to Janet’s message straight away and what I saw and read did not just freak me out, I nearly collapse. Damn! This is not happening! |
EPISODE SEVEN MFYL PR2 I sat on the mattress not knowing what to do. I don’t have anybody on her camp I can call except for Janet. Oh! Will I call Janet and be asking about Funmi from her or ask her to deliver message to Funmi? That’s going to be counterproductive. I started to think about what I did wrong to have pushed Funmi into breaking up with me in just two weeks we were apart. I tried her number again but was still switched off. I sent her a text message claiming I love her and will do anything in my capability to please her. I also said I’m sorry about everything even though I’m yet to understand what really is the problem as I don’t believe it’s just about reduction in communication. Some minutes later she replied my text saying I made her cry and sad contrary to my promise never to do that again. I tried calling her immediately the message entered but her phone was off again. I did not know when I screamed out in frustration waking up some guys who had been sleeping earlier. I laid back on the mattress not knowing what to think about as my mind run from Ifunaya to Uche’s drama and Funmi’s shocker. One of my fellow corps members in the hostel name Tali did came to have words with me. Tali: Hey Will, can I have a word with you? Me: Tali how far? Maybe tomorrow, I’m not in good mood right now. Tali: Yeah, your scream says a lot. Me: I’m sorry if I woke you up Tali: I wasn’t sleeping. I’ve been noticing you since you came back. What’s the problem? Me: Oh, I’m okay. I just needed some rest Tali: Is it about ladies? Me: Why must it be about ladies? Tali: Because you are a guy and I heard you on phone the other time. Me: So every guy worries about ladies right? Tali: No, those who can control themselves don’t worry about ladies. Me: Hmm, it’s okay. Thanks I’m fine. Tali: Is it lust? Me: Lust as how? Tali: I mean you are having feelings for many ladies at a time, that’s lust. Me: Who told you I’m having feelings for multiple ladies. Anyway, thanks for your lust definition. Tali: You know I’m right because you can’t love all of them at the same time; you are only looking for something else Me: Something else like? Tali: You know what I’m talking about Me: Just say it, will you? Tali: Okay, you are only sexually attracted to them. Me: Here we go! Common dude, must everything be about sex? Tali: If what you are looking for is not sex, then what it is? Me: Dude I don’t understand you. Let’s just end this discussion already Tali: Hmm, I saw you in church this evening, are you born again? Me: Positive Tali: Since when? Me: I can’t give you a date, but I know it was while I was in 100level Tali: Hmm, nobody forget their birthday. Anyway since you claim to be born again I’m sure you know premarital sex is a sin. Me: Yes I know. Are we still talking about sex? Damn! Tali; Good to know. Why don’t you table your worries to God then? Me: How do you mean? Tali: You are a Christian and are born again, then present what’s troubling you to God. Me: Hmm Tali: Except of course your situation is not presentable to God. Me: Really? Tali: Yes, you’ll be ashamed to present unholy stuffs to God. Me: Is there something one cannot present to God? Tali: His eye is too holy beneath iniquity Me: But He still answers sinners’ prayer Tali: Abomination! The prayer of a sinner is a taboo to Him. Me: Really? What about when the sinner is asking for forgiveness? Tali: That’s different. Me: You are making it sound like you must first be holy before you can talk to God. Meanwhile Christ never came to meet the holy dudes but the other peeps. God said “come let us reason together”. He said he’s able to forgive. He wasn’t talking to righteous dude in that regard. Well I understand where you are coming from and I know sometimes I tread the wrong path. But don’t be saying this to everybody. Only the deep in Christ can understand your points, it will only chase away the baby Christians away. God answers sinners’ prayer, he love sinners. He only hates the sin in them not the sinners. Well to clarify your point, God only answers according to His will, so a sinners prayer outside forgiveness is most likely not going to be in tune with God’s will. That’s the deal. Tali: Hmm preach it sir Me: (Smiling) Really, I appreciate your words. Thanks, God bless you. I’ll tell my worries to God. Tali: You are welcome bro. whenever you want to discuss anything you can call me. Me: Thanks bro. Tali: Hope you’ll come for the program tomorrow? Me: I will thanks. I actually felt more relieved with the discussion I had with Tali. The truth in is words is I must be focus and know what I’m looking for. Whatever I won’t eat I should just let go, not sniffing it. I planned on having a chat with Ifunaya tomorrow and apologize to her. I was still in thought when Ifunaya’s message came in and it reads “Will, whatever it is that is bothering you, just be calm, we’ll talk tomorrow and I assure you it’s all settled”. That message sent a mixed feeling into my system, good and bad. The good there is we’ll talk and I’ll be able to express myself but the bad there is she said “all is settled”. I hope she’s not thinking I want to ask her out. It that’s the case, I’m sure going to continue this drama tomorrow. I was already sleeping when Temmy and Mark came back waking me up. Mark: Will, why are you sleeping by this time? Temmy: What’s wrong bro? Me: It’s already late now, it’s almost 10. Temmy: Yeah, but I know you’ll either be chatting or surfing net by now. Me: We’ll talk later. Where have you been? Temmy; Fola wouldn’t let go of me. She insisted I stay with her. We were in mami since. Mark: Temmy be careful with that lady Temmy: Why did you say that? I’m not dating her. Mark: I know, but she’s giving you too much attention and she obviously like you. Temmy: And what’s wrong with that Mark: No, it’s not wrong if she’s single. Temmy: Is she not? Mark: She’s married guys Temmy/Me: What? Me: How can you tell? Mark: I saw her redeployment form Temmy: She’s redeploying? Mark: She didn’t tell you? Me: How did you come across the form? Mark: I was in the hall while they were filling it. I don’t think she knows me as your friend though. Temmy: Menh! I have died! Me: (Laughing) What killeth thou bro? Temmy: Mark, thank you so much for saving me from a potential abomination. (We all laughed) Mark: I beg I want to sleep before those crazy hungry Man-O-War will come with their frustrated behaviors tomorrow morning. Me: Thanks mark, good night. Temmy: Good night bro (He sits on my bed). So what’s the problem bro? Me: You won’t believe it if I tell you that Funmi broke up with me this evening. Temmy: What kind of play is that? Me: I’m not kidding bro; she said she needs a break. Temmy: How did she say it? Me: She said we should have break till further notice Temmy: And your response? Me: I said I wasn’t in support of it that we should be together but she said she wasn’t asking for my permission. Temmy: Wao! What was her reason for the breakup? Me: Reduced communication between us Temmy: Are you serious? That’s normal now; we are on camp for God’s sake. Me: Tell her that. She has switched off her phone since then. She sent me a massage that I made her cry but I don’t know how. Temmy: Maybe I should call her. Me: You can try, but you should call Rachael first. Temmy: She called me while I was coming back (He dialed Funmi’s number and it rang but was ignored). She’s dropping my call. Me: I tell you. You are being punished for my sin. Temmy: I have another angle to this. Me: What angle? Temmy: I don’t think she can just breakup with you over phone for lack of communication. Me: So what do you think is the problem? Temmy: There are two schools of thoughts Me: Which are? Temmy: One is somebody is telling her about you. Me: Telling her what about me? Temmy: Your closeness with Ifunaya and Uche. Me: Yeah, when does getting close becomes cheating? Temmy: She won’t see it that way Me: And who knows me as her man here? Temmy: There is only one person who knows and have Funmi’s contact Me: Uche? Temmy: Something like that Me: While will she do that? Temmy: Maybe because she likes you Me: So she’ll destroy my relationship because of that? Temmy: Ladies can do anything to get what they want Me: No, Uche can’t do that Temmy: What’s up with her though, I saw her leaving the hall in an angry fashion. Me: I can’t even explain. I was watching Ifunaya dance and next thing she said was “I won’t watch her like that” and her facial expression changed. She said I never give her chance. Temmy: Chance for what? Me: I was going to ask but she never waited for me to. More like she’s jealous of Ifunaya. Temmy: Mehn, things are happening. Me: Bro I can’t wait for this camp to close, I’m tired. Everything is getting so boring and frustrating. Temmy: Sorry bro, you still got like 7days Me: Damn! What’s the other school of thought? Temmy: For Funmi right? Me: Yeah Temmy: Well, I’m sorry to say this but I think she has met another guy on camp and that one is always available unlike you that is far away. Me: I’ll choose not to believe that. Temmy: It won’t change it from being the truth if it is. Me: No, I know funmi, she can’t do such thing. I’m her first love remember. Temmy: Well time will tell. Have you send those details to the manager? Me: You are just asking now. I’ve sent it since last week. I’m even hearing they won’t allow anybody to go to company. I heard everybody is going to be posted to school except the medical guys. Temmy: No problem with that. We’ll ask the school principal to reject us. Me: If he refused? Temmy: We’ll speak his language. Me: Hmm, what if it’s on water. Temmy: Same technique. Me: Till then. My mind is on Funmi presently. What if we indeed breakup? Temmy: It’s camp distraction, after camp her eye will clear. Me: I pray so. Temmy: Just keep your calm and start avoiding both Uche for now. Me: I need that big time, just like you have to flee from Fola. Temmy: On point. You don’t have to tell me. My mind could not get off Funmi throughout the night, even the dream I had was on us. I really love Funmi, yes I’m getting little distracted but it is a mere distraction. I really can’t lose her. |
Another Talent we've got here. Great one Bro. Though I'll love it more if you can break it unto chapter or episodes or acts or whatever, just for proper alignment and to know where we are. All join, the story is great |
EPISODE SIX MFYL PR2 That semi-kiss probably sums up everything. I blamed myself for leading her on when I know it won’t lead anywhere meaningful. Even if we’ll part after camp, I still felt it’s very wrong. Ladies heart is not like that of guys, I think it’s more delicate. Not something to be toying or playing with. Ifunaya: Otondo, you weren’t picking my calls Me: I did not even know it rang; it has been on silence since the time for morning parade. Ifunaya: I thought you are with your girlfriend Me: Which girlfriend? Ifunaya: That hot babe now Me: (Laughing) Hot babe? You mean Uche right? Ifunaya: She’s Igbo? I’ve never heard her speak it before. Me: You are not her friend now, besides everybody speaks English here. Ifunaya: Not you and Temmy. You guys speak Yoruba like your life depends on it. Sometimes, it makes me feel somehow. Me: Oh oh, we can’t be speaking it when you are around now. Temmy: Ifunayamo! Don’t feel somehow ee, we can’t sell you en. How are you doing? Ifunaya: Sorry Temmy, my mind way actually greeting you Temmy: And my mind was answering too (We all laughed). Don’t worry you are not for sell Ifunaya: For where, sell me kwa, you can’t! I’m too sharp than that. Just don’t speak it again. Temmy: Of course when you are around we won’t. Ifunaya: Better, because if you do I’ll break your head (she playfully tilts my head). By the way I want to learn the language. Me: Really? But you’ve been to Lagos several times now Ifunaya: Yes but my uncles’ compound is mainly Igbo speaking. Even the three Yoruba families there speak Igbo fluently. Me: That’s cool; I’ll love to learn Igbo too. I’m tired of saying just “biko” and “oginin” every time. Ifunaya: Go and read that manual they gave you Temmy: Why didn’t you use the manual to learn Yoruba? That manual is the best language learning tool you can have; only it will confuse you rather than teach you. Ifunaya: (laughs) Will you guys come to the social night this evening? Me: What’s happening there? Ifunaya: Dancing competition between platoons. I’ll be dancing for my platoon. Temmy; Really, I’ll love to see you dance. Ifunaya: You think I can’t dance (She started showing us different skills and moves while she sings and drum with her hand) Temmy: (clapping) Well done! Will, let’s go there tonight. Me: What about the NCCF programme? Temmy: Oh, that’s true Ifunaya: You want to join executives? Temmy: Executives of what? Ifunaya: NCCF now, if you go there too often, they’ll make you executive. Temmy: (Temmy and I look at each other) But they can’t force me if I don’t want to Ifunaya: Of course they can’t force you, but you won’t be able to reject it. Me: I’ll reject it if called. I’ve not led myself properly as a Christian, now you are saying I should be leading people? I’ll pass. I don’t think the programmes will disturb each other anyway. NCCF is 6:30 while social night is 8pm. Ifunaya: Meaning you are coming? Me: Yeah, but after we are done at NCCF Temmy: Why don’t you want to become exco self Me: Same reason you don’t want to. Bro, I’ll pass. Ifunaya: Will, I want to get something in mami Me: What’s that? Ifunaya: When we get there, you’ll know. Me: We? Ifunaya: Yes now, aren’t you following me? Me: I’ll prefer to stay on the field here; I’m enjoying the breeze and the view. Ifunaya: Which breeze? Common let’s go Me: I’m trying to avoid mami, that place has been eating my money hard. Ifunaya: You won’t buy anything, except are you waiting for Uche here? Before I could defend myself, the rain started pouring without notice and in few minutes it became so heavy we had to take cover inside the registration hall and that automatically cancel her proposed tour of mami market as nobody loves to go inside mami immediately after a rainfall. We did go to the social night after the NCCF programme and no, we were not asked to become executives. It was a great time in the presence of God, life imparting to which I’m not planning to miss any till the camp close. Am I becoming religious? Far from it, but one need the spiritual food so our spiritual person don’t get lean while we store fat in the mortal body. It was our first time in the said social night and I was patiently waiting for Ifunaya’s platoon to perform because that was the reason I was there. Her platoon did perform and I must confess, she’s a great dancer and I almost got carried away by her dancing prowess if not for Uche that tapped me. Uche: I don’t know you do come here, and you are so engrossed. Me: (Smile) This is my first time here. How are you? Uche: I’m fine. I asked you to wait for me the other time but you left Me: I thought you said we’ll see later. Uche: No, I was registering for platoon’s volley ball team Me: Oh, you can play? Uche: I played it in secondary school. Me: Cool, I’ll love to see you play Uche: We have practice tomorrow; you can come to watch us Me: I hope it’ll be fun Uche: It will. Are you not going to play football for our platoon? Me: Those guys are organized and I’m not with my soccer booth Uche: Lazy boy (She pinches me by the side) Me: Uche, soldiers are here o, I don’t want to do frog jump I beg. Uche: Temmy how now? Temmy: I’m fine Uche, how are you? Uche: I’m okay; you are not playing football too? Temmy: I’m not interested jor Uche: How are you guys even enjoying the camp? You don’t do anything. Temmy: You people doing something will be employed I guess Uche: Funny, without these activities, the camp will be too dull. Temmy received a call and excused himself out of the hall. Uche: So why are you here? Me: You are the one that said I don’t do anything; therefore I’m here to do something. Uche: Hmm, you think I don’t know you are here to watch your crush? Me: Which crush did you give me? She pointed to Ifunaya on the stage that was now having a solo performance after her fellow dancer had left the stage. She displayed some of the dance steps she showed us earlier as both Uche and I watch in awe. Uche; She’s actually good. Me: You notice it too? I’m surprise she can dance this much Uche: I wish I’m the one you are engrossed watching like this Me: Uche! Uche: Is it wrong to watch me? Me: I’ll be watching you tomorrow Uche: That’s a mere practice Will, not performance and I’m sure you won’t be focus like this Me: You are sounding jealous Uche: Why won’t I be? We were always together but you never even gave me a chance. You always see me as a bad girl and I don’t blame you. Me: Uche! Uche: You know what, don’t bother. I’m leaving; your girlfriend is looking for you. Me: Common Uche! She left in an angry manner while Ifunaya did come to sit by my side. “How do I explain what just happen? Has Uche developed something real for me? I always see her as the playful and disturbing type but I’ve never seen her emotional before. And why am I suddenly concerned about Uche’s feeling? I think I’m losing my mind. What the damn is wrong with me?” Ifunaya: What? (I did speak out without knowing) Me: What? Ifunaya: You are asking what is wrong with you Me: I did? I must have thought out Ifunaya: What’s on your mind? Me: Many things, but I’m okay. Nice performance you had out there. Ifunaya: Thanks, but I did not see you clap Me: I did clap Ifunaya: No you did not; you were talking with that girl Me: Maybe you did not see me when I clapped Ifunaya: I think we need to talk, let’s go outside. Me: Yeah, we should talk, but not tonight. I’ll love to go and sleep now. Ifunaya: Something is wrong but you aren’t sharing it. No problem, we’ll talk tomorrow, but at least see me off to my hostel before going to sleep. Me: Alright, let me call Temmy. Ifunaya: He’s outside with a lady Me: Okay let’s go then. We left the hall while I signal to Temmy who was busy chatting with Fola. I saw Ifunaya off to her hostel while I headed to my hostel to meet a rather empty and quiet dormitory. I went to the bathroom, took a shower and laid myself down on the mattress being elevated by the old style designed iron bed. I lay there looking up with the mattress covered with mosquito net as I got lost in thought. Funmi’s call came through into my phone and I was more than happy to receive it because I’m sure hearing from her will change my mood to a better one. Me: Hello dear, I’m happy to hear your voice Funmi: What’s the problem? Where are you? Me: I’m on my bed Funmi: At this time? If you are happy to hear my voice, why didn’t you call me? Me: I was going to call you but. . . Funmi: But you did not! You know what Will; I think we need to talk for real. I’m not feeling this anymore Me: Common Funmi, what are you talking about? Funmi: Before the camp, you call me like five times in a day, you send lovely and assuring messages. You are always missing me and wishing to be with me, but since the last two weeks, you don’t even chat as often again. Me: Dear, I’m sure you’ll understand we don’t have most time to ourselves on camp and can’t be operating phone during training except I want to be in trouble. Funmi: Am I not on camp here too? Yet I still call you Me: Baby your call is not as before too, and I guess its same reason. I do call you Funmi, just not as before. Everything will change once we are out of the camp, just one more week. Funmi: Really? Change to good or worse? Me: Common baby, you know I’m missing you, I just don’t have options. Funmi: You have options Will. You chose that state just to avoid me. Me: Common, don’t say that. Funmi: You know what? I think I need a break Me: A break from what? Funmi: A break from us, until you are ready. Me: Common how can you say that. You don’t cut the head off to cure headache now. We can only resolve issues when we stay together, not when we are apart. Funmi: I’m the only one trying here, you don’t even feel it. Let’s just have a break till maybe later. Me: Just like that? You are breaking up with me on phone barely after two weeks we last saw each other, even while we were not fighting? Okay I don’t want a break and I’m not permitting it. We’ll stick together and solve every issue we have. Funmi: I’m not asking for your permission Will. Good night and don’t bother to call me. Me: Come on Funmi! (She cut the phone) I dialed her number immediately but she ignored it showing “user busy”. I tried again but this time it was switched off. My night just got from bad to worse. |
Topscoque:Lols, while I was serving, we were asked to sit down in the mud while rain was falling. So barbaric. But the joy there was, both the cocoa and the cocoa owner will get dry together (Yoruba proverbs). Lols. BTW camp was fun, I indeed had a similar experience to what is in the story, lol |
EPISODE FIVE MFYL PR2 We entered the camp late in the evening as we were conveyed down by manager himself. He called and spoke with one solder which looks like a high rank officer on the camp judging by the respect he commands from other soldiers. I later discovered he’s the RSM (Regiment Sergeant Major). This clearly shows this manager is highly influential to have that kind of contact in the army. This ultimately made our first registration easier as we were not subjected to carrying of our bags on the head like they did to others. There was a lady who smartly joined herself with us claiming we came together. She’s light complexion, tall and beautiful like my Funmi, but not more than Funmi. She introduced herself to me while we were heading to our respective hostels. Lady: I’m Ifunaya Me: I’m hearing that for the first time. I thought its mere slang in music Ifunaya: Really? Where are you from, Lagos? Me: (Smiles) Not all south-westerners are from Lagos. I’m William, you can call me Will. Ifunaya: Will, that’s a nice name and you? (Asking Temmy who was helping her to carry one of her stuffs) Temmy: Just call me Temmy Ifunaya: Nice! You guys seem to be influential here Me: Maybe. Guess we’ll see you later. Ifunnaya: Definitely! I don’t think this place is that big. We parted ways as she went to the female hostel. We were lucky to be pitched at the same hostel, maybe it’s because we registered at the same time because twenty or so people that registered before and after us were pitched in the same hostel with us. Very early the following morning, we were woken up by angrily blown whistle and funny chants from officers we thought were solders only to discover later they are men of the Man-O-War cadre. I was surprised some people already had their bath while we were still sleeping, thinking they’ll excuse us because we’ve not done proper registration and therefore do not have necessary kits for training and parade. The officers, running around as if they have beef with us, burst into our dormitory shouting “If I meet you there, you don buy job be dat”. One of them even carried a bucket of water, spraying everybody. I was able to lock my bag before I took to my heels wearing one pair of shoe while holding the other one as I joined others in the rat race to the parade ground. I thought I was the only one in the funny dress up until I got to the parade ground and found a guy with soap foams on his head. I guess the guy was in the bathroom when the agents of bully came into the dormitory. I couldn’t locate anybody I knew on the ground as Temmy and Mark were nowhere to be found. We were led to sing praises (Devotion) and then proceed to sing or should I say chant the national anthem while somebody taught us the funny self implicated NYSC anthem. The part I hated the most was “under the sun and in the rain”. If you serve in Rivers State or any of the southern Nigeria states especially Batch B (Usually June or July then), you’ll understand the implication of that allegiance declaration. After the devotion and few announcements, I saw the solder the manager was talking to the night we came. He was addressed by one of the solder as “RSM Sir!” He neglected the microphone and started dishing us abuses with his voice that put the PA system to shame. He was bold and highly audible while the whole ground was in total silence as he continues to threatening us, even with death. “You have signed your death warrant by coming here, no be me go call you o, na you by yourself enter my camp, you don die! I’ll make sure I kill all of you maggots here” he said. After the general dishing, he faced those of us who were not in the “white fowl” dress (White top and shorts on white canvas) to endow us with special abuse delicacies like calling us “otondo”, “baboon”, “maggots”, “monkey” and other stuffs to which we must respond yes sir, before he finally ordered us to go for our registration. One funny rule I can’t forget easily was the “Yes Sir, Morning Sir” rule. Whatever they call us, or ask us, even if the answer is a capital “NO” we must always answer “Yes sir”. And whether you meet them in a scotching afternoon sun, you must always say “Morning sir” with salute. I don’t understand why graduates must be treated in such manners just to serve our father land when we are not in Egypt or Israel where joining the military for three years or so after school is a compulsory feat. At least in those countries, especially Israel, you can decide to continue as a military man after the three years. Anyway, some of our supposed learned lecturers did worse to us, psychologically though. Entering the registration hall, I still could not locate Temmy and Mark. I sat down on one of the plastic chairs, waiting for the time they’ll allow us to go back to the hostel to pick the necessary documents required for the registration while I surf the net on my phone which was almost dead by then. Temmy’s call did enter and I wondered why it never occurred to me to have called him earlier. Temmy: Bro where are you? Me: I’m inside the hall, what about you? Temmy: I’m in the hall too, which area are you? Me: I’m at the back side, towards the main exit. Temmy: I’m in the front and I’ve kept a space for you here. Me: Really, maybe you should stand and wave so I can locate you Temmy: I’ve already seen you, look straight to your front, I’m waiving. Me: Alright, I can see you now, should I drop the chair I’m sitting on? Temmy: Bring it along; we might have somebody to give it to As I was about to carry the chair, someone tapped me from the back. I never knew majority of her beauty was hidden in the dark when I saw her the day before. She’s more light skinned than I thought, having her natural hair rolling down to her shoulders as she greeted me with a contagious smile. One thing though, my Funmi is still more beautiful, at least I need to stuck that into my head to avoid getting distracted. Me: Hey you! Lady: Hey you too, how was your night? Me: It wasn’t too good with those agents of bully waking me when I was having the sweetest part of the dream. What about yours? Lady: (Laughs) I had a fair night Me: I think it was great because you are looking so beautiful this morning (I’ve started creating trouble by myself. Who send me the compliments biko!) Lady: Really? Me: (Oh Lord she’s blushing and wants to hear more. Damn!) No flattering, I bow for your royal beauty. (Somebody please talk sense into my head) Lady: Thanks, really thanks. I’ve actually forgotten your name. I’m happy she has forgotten my name because I’ve forgotten hers too; I’m only using those compliments as cover up. Me: That makes two of us (that’s a gross mistake). My name is William but you can call me Will. Like when there is Will, there is a way. Lady: Hmm, I remember now, but how could you forget my name? Me: (Egbami o, I just told her mine o) The name is somehow long and not English like mine. Lady: Really? Then I won’t tell you again. Find out by yourself. Me: That’s cheating because I just told you mine. Lady: I’m not telling you still Her school I.D card she was carrying did betrayed her though, as I use style to quickly eye snap the name but pretends as if I still can’t remember. Me: I think it starts with I or F like em em em. . . I can’t remember. Lady: No problem, till you remember. Me: Alright now. So Ifunaya where are you sitting? Ifunaya: (She laughs) How did you suddenly remember? Me: It’s coded (I wink) Ifunaya: Hmm, okay now. I don’t have a sit yet. Me: Let’s go to the front, my guy is keeping a sit for me there. Ifunaya: Indeed, where there is a Will, there is a way We both laughed as she followed me down to the front sits where Temmy was sitting. Throughout the registration process, up until we were given our kits, we still could not locate Mark. He later told us he went to “mami” market to charge his phone but located a play station center instead and has been playing since that time to the extent he missed the lunch. Temmy and I were in different platoons. He was in Platoon 3; I was in 4 while Ifunaya was in Platoon five according to our state codes. Uche eventually entered the camp on Thursday and was registered to the same platoon as I (Platoon 4). This made us see each other almost every time and as a result we became closer than we were before camp. Uche was however not what was giving me concern but my unethical closeness with Ifunaya. Ifunaya and I have become so close in just one and half week of stay on camp to the extent I long to see her every day. This was almost drifting my heart away from reality until Funmi’s message brought me back from the horrible infatuation. Her message reads “Hello my crown. How are you today? Hope you’ve got used to the drillings over there and hope you are not being carried away by the hot chicks around you. I discovered you don’t call and chat with me as we used to do before and it’s not making me happy. Always remember the pot of my heart is entirely in your hand. Please don’t break it baby. I love you so much Will”. This message sent emotion filled with guilt and regret over my body. I did miss her and it was as if she saw what was going on where I am. I hope I’m not giving Ifunaya unnecessary attention or wrong signals, because her actions towards me seem to be a response to my gesture towards her. Yes she’s beautiful and cool, fitting the position of a proper girlfriend but my heart belongs to Funmi. I narrated my ordeal to Temmy who was also battling his own, having got too close to a lady in her platoon Me: Temmy are we serious at all? Temmy: Oh boy, I think we are crazy (We both laughed) Me: On a serious note, what we are doing is wrong Temmy: Not what we are doing but what we are edging closer to do. Me: What you won’t eat, why smell it? It’s wrong. Temmy: We are not dating them now, so we are not cheating. Me: When last have you spoken to Rachael? I mean meaningful conversation. Temmy: We still spoke yesterday, but I must admit not as often as we used to do. But it’s because of the camp activities. You know most times we are not allowed to use phone and when we are free, it’s either we are doing something else and forget to call. Me: Funmi sent me a text message complaining I’ve withdrawn from calling and chatting with her. I think we need to stop. Temmy: Yeah, but it’s not that easy, these babes won’t just let go like that. By the way, I don’t think Fola is thinking of dating me, just friends. Why will just three weeks destroy a lifetime relationship? Me: Save that talk bro, ladies don’t think the way we think. Besides how many ladies just get close to a guy just for friendship. She’s not collecting money from you; she even spends more than you. If she doesn’t have the feeling already, it will develop with time, which is why the earlier we stop the better. We can’t be getting close to ladies that much again. Temmy: Maybe I don’t read it that way. Me: I think we are sending wrong signals to these babes. We better stop before one of us is planked (We both laugh) Temmy: That will be you Me: I’ve being planked once, I’m not sure I can take it again. Temmy: Ifunaya is really into you. At least Fola is in my platoon but she’s not in your platoon. Don’t you see how jealous she is whenever you playing with Uche. Me: Really I’m not far from being planked (We laugh). I know she’s not fond of Uche but I don’t think it’s a case of jealousy. Temmy: Then what case is it? Me: Maybe they don’t just get along Temmy: Sit down there. She’s thinking you have interest in Uche. Me: I think I’ll be avoiding both of them now. Temmy: The only good news there is you are likely not going to be posted to the same PPA (Place of Primary Assignment) which will end most camp affections. But don’t ever think you can just avoid them. The camp is small, if you avoid them, they’ll look for you. Me: Well, the camp will end soon, countdown has started already. It’s Ifunaya that might cause problem because I won’t lie; I like her to some extent, maybe because she has a great similarity to Funmi. Temmy: Yeah, she’s got Funmi’s shape and appearance, and behavior sometimes, but Uche still like you; don’t fall for her change in attitude. Me: She has indeed change but I’ve got no iota of feeling for her. I’m her friend because she has change. Temmy: I hear you. If you don’t have feelings for her, does that stop her from having feelings for you? By the way your love is here. Me: Who is your love again? Temmy: Look behind you Before I could look back, she has already blocked my eye from the back with her hand while she gave me an unexpected peck on the neck. |

EPISODE FOUR MFYL PR2 I walked down to her and sighting me she hugged me passionately in a way she couldn’t have done before. “I nearly died Will, it was God that saved me” she said, almost crying. I pressed her head on my chest using my hand to pat her back telling her all will be fine. “Hope you are not wounded anywhere?” I asked and she replied “No”. I cleaned her tears and gather her stuffs scattered all over the place as Temmy and Mark joined me. We were able to get all her stuffs except her big travelling bag stuck at the back of the bus that was conveying them. It took the intervention of some guys that uses axe to remove the booth cover before we could force out her bag, though now damaged with some of her stuffs. We loaded her luggage into my car by squeezing it in as the booth was already filled with our luggage. Me: I think we should take you to the hospital Uche: No, I’m fine Me: You never can tell, it is better they carry out a proper check on you to ascertain that Temmy: That’s true, you might not feel some of it now because of the Adrenaline but by the time you wake up tomorrow, it’ll be a different story. Uche: I’m fine. My aunt’s husband is a doctor. He’ll check me when I get to their place. Me: Where is their place? Uche: Portharcout Mark: So you were heading to PH? Uche: Yes, I wanted to sleep over at my aunt’s before going to the camp tomorrow. Temmy: You are posted to Rivers too? Uche: Yeah, my aunt’s husband work it for me Me: Just rest for now and call your aunt when there is network so we can know where to meet her Uche: Thanks Will. Hearing I’m going to be on the same camp with Uche for 21 days should normally send me into worrying mode but I unexpectedly felt okay about it. Maybe it’s because I’ve never seen this side of her before. I’ve always known her to be a strong personality trying to disturb my peace at every chance she get but she seems gentle and cool now, maybe it’s because of the circumstances surrounding it. That hug she gave me also did some magic. The journey continued and we were all analyzing what could have caused the accident. The car was obviously on the wrong side of the road as we met it on the lane going into the city. All these while, Uche was silent and look more like she was sleeping until she spoke up gently to me. Uche: Will, where are we? Me: We are almost there, we just pass Bayelsa Uche: It’s getting late, I should call my sister. She pulled out her phone to call her sister and that was how we discovered the phone screen has gotten broken at the upper part and would not even come up. Me: Do you know her number off hand? Uche: Yes I do I gave my phone to her while she called aunt to meet us at a place where it would be convenient for us to continue our journey to the place we’ll sleep over. Uche: Will, thanks for today. Me: Thank God, it’s was a mere coincidence we were there. Uche: You didn’t tell me you now have a car. Me: How did you know it’s mine? Uche: (She points to the congratulatory card of our supervisor I hanged on the mirror) I remember our supervisor gave us that after our external defense. Me: Oh, that’s right. You guessed right. Uche: Will, you can form o. Me: Why did you say that? Uche: You’ll be doing like you don’t have anything in school, fooling everybody into believing you are just an average guy. Me: (Laughs) Uche believe me, I’m just an average guy like every other normal guy. I’m not as rich as you think. This car surprises even me. Uche: Congratulations anyway, even though what you did is not good at all. Me: What’s that again? Uche: Since after our final defense, you did not see me or hear from me yet you did not bother to ask. Or didn’t you notice I wasn’t at Engineering induction and school convocation? Me: (Why would I ask of you to ask for more trouble?) Truth be told, I noticed you weren’t around, but I thought you travelled and decided not to be there just like some others. Uche: Why won’t I want to be there? I have good grades and I’m not having any issue with the school authority. Me: I know, so why weren’t you there? Uche: I was avoiding our supervisor Me: (This is a new one) Why will you be avoiding him? I thought you guys are very close. Uche: Yeah, he wants something else Me: (What’s more else than you guys dating?) Something else like what? (I have to pull her legs a little) Uche: You know what I meant Will Me: Truth be told, I thought you both were seeing each other. Uche: (She looks at me mischievously) Why will you think like that about me? Me: Uche that’s what you always portrayed. That’s what everybody think. Uche: That’s a very wrong assumption. He did ask for it but I instead arranged two other babes for him. Me: Students? Uche: No, they are indigenes Me: Prostitute I guess Uche: Something like that. I paid the ladies. Me: So what does he want again? Uche: After the duration of my money elapse, the girls were demanding from him. He also said one of them stole his money. Me: So! What’s your business with that? Uche: He said it’s me he wants and vowed not to allow me graduate if I refuse him. Me: So how did you go about your clearance, especially with him? Uche: I told him I’ve agreed and tricked him into signing it but I run away afterwards. Me: That sound more like the Uche I know, very sharp. Uche: (Smiles) I was lucky he signed; it’s more like he was extremely happy about something that day. Me: You know you caused most of it right? Uche: How? Me: Uche your dressings were always suggestive. Even we your mates believe you are one of those girls. Uche: The man did it to even the “SU’s” in our department. Me: I know the man has the evil habit no matter what you wear, but what you wear can stimulate his evil and he will make you attracted to him even on a day he wasn’t willing. Uche: Thank God I’ve escaped him Me: Yeah, but I’ll advise you watch your dressing, if you don’t want similar situation with maybe your boss. Uche: Thanks. Are you going to the camp tonight? Me: No, we’ll sleep over in PH and proceed to camp tomorrow. We dropped Uche off to the reception of her sister who was already waiting for us at the stated junction. We then proceed to the manager’s house where we comfortably parked the car while the three of us were given a well-furnished room to sleep. The manager was not around by the time we arrived as his house help made sure we have everything we needed. The manger knocked and entered our room later in the late evening to salute us. Sighting him, I felt a funny reaction in my body system. It was like we’ve known each other before or maybe I’ve seen him somewhere before but I could not recollect. I was dumb silent as he salutes us with funny remarks. He asked for both Mark and Temmy’s names as they responded accordingly but he surprisingly called me by name. That increase my suspicion about us meeting before but I discarded the idea believing he got to know my name from Daddy Orire. “How then did he recognize me or has my picture been sent to him?” While in this thought, he asked me to follow him outside the room to which I did. Manager: Yemi how are you? Me: I’m fine sir Manager: I noticed you’ve been silent all these while. Hope there is no problem? Me: No problem sir, I’m just trying to get use to my new environment. Manager: Is it that different from where you are coming from? Me: Not really, but I’m new in this part of the country. Manager: Don’t worry, you’ll enjoy it. He took me to a newly completed lodge in the compound and we went inside the rooms. The lodge was beautifully designed with two big and one smaller room, a very big sitting room, a well-furnished kitchen and a combined toilet and bathroom of a very high standard. Manager: Do you like this place? Me: It’s wonderful sir. I really love it. One can sleep in this bathroom if care is not taken Manager: (We both laughed) The TV cables and dishes will be fixed before the end of this week. By the time you come back, any other thing you need will be fixed. You just let me know. Me: I don’t understand sir Manager: This is where you’ll stay for your service year. Me: Wao! I’m surely going to enjoy this service. Manager: (Smiles) I’ll need your call up number and I’ll need you to send your state code to me immediately you are been given on camp. Me: Okay sir: Managers: We’ll need it to officially and specifically ask for you from NYSC Me: Thank you sir. I’ll do that. Manager: You are welcome Me: Sir? Manager: I’m listening Me: We are two Manager: I don’t understand, two how? Me: I mean you’ll request for two of us Manager: I was only told about you Me: He’s my close pal from childhood and we studied the same course. Manager: Who is the fellow? Me: Temiloluwa, the other guy in the room Manager: Alright but I can’t take the third person Me: I believe you can still take him too. Help me look into it sir Manager: You studied same course also? Me: Similar sir, he studied Agricultural Engineering Manager: Let him look for farm then, our company’s farm are not in this area. Me: (Smiles) Agricultural Engineering is not just about farming sir. It’s application of engineering principles to farming, but how can they apply what they don’t know. Which is why they are first engineers and then farmers? They can perform almost at every place a mechanical, food and civil engineers can function. Manager: You have a very good point there but let’s stick to you and your best friend first. Me: Alright sir. Sir, it’s like we’ve met before Manager: Really? Where is that? Me: I can’t figure it out but I have a great feeling we’ve met before. Manager: You might not be entirely wrong, or maybe I resemble somebody from your side. Me: I’m not sure sir. Manager: Try to remember. We have a lot to talk about when you come back from camp. We left the lodge and I went back to meet the others where we were staying. I tried to search if he really resembles somebody I knew before but I couldn’t really stamp it on anybody. Though I felt more like I’ve had that conversation or similar one before but I still could not ascertain where or to whom. By the time I come back from camp, I’ll like to know the connection between Daddy Orire, the manager and the caring I’m getting from them. |
