striker9: When they said Nigerians can be ungrateful,I thought it was a lie,its was so easy for u to mention how he shipped in 6 goals but you won't remember him when he was saving naija with brilliant displays.

Did he not ship 6 goals at the Confederations cup?

Look I dont celebrate mediocre performance or average Performance yes am a Chelsea fan if they give Jose the chance to swap both players he will in a heart beat.... go to any major sport network in the world (FOX Sport, ESPN, SKY, BBC Sport, Eurosport etc) They will tell you that Yaya Toure is the best by a distance

striker9: I didn't know scoring a certain of goals half way a season has become an individual award.

I didn't know theirs an individual award for keeping clean sheets, Petr Cech should have been up for the Ballon D'or if that was the case

PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Sports / Re: It Will Be A Criminal Act If Mikel Does Not Win African Player Of The Year by babyboy3(m): 12:39pm On Jan 06, 2014
PezzoNovante:
Any player of African origin
playing within or outside
Africa and excels above all in
terms of achievement and
performance during the year under review. The
following is the basic criteria:
- The performance of the player at national and
international levels
- The consistency of his performance
- His sports achievements
- His charisma and influence
- His popularity

So tell me how Yaya Toure doesn't fit into the Criteria above knowing that he score more goals than any Nigeria player during the world cup qualifying games

And also make a the same case for Emmanuel Adebayor in 2008
Sports / Re: It Will Be A Criminal Act If Mikel Does Not Win African Player Of The Year by babyboy3(m): 12:26pm On Jan 06, 2014
striker9: No because he went on 11 consecutive cleen sheets, thereby winning french player of the month 2 consecutive months, and beating the likes of Ibrahimovic,Cavani and Falcao. How many player of the months has Yaya toure won this season?

Name another African Midfielder that has or has ever score 12 goals half way through a league season.

The main fact Yaya Toure plays in a far more stronger league than Ligue 1 Cavanni, Zlatan and Falcao are not the be all and end all of football, Vicent faced both Spain and Uruguay, I believe that's a level up from the Nations cup and shipped 5 goals against both teams

Because he won a Mickey Mouse league in Israel or because he shipped 6 goals at the confederation cup

Is this a golden shoe award? why dint Yaya fvcking Toure that won the Golden shoe at Afcon?

The Golden Shoe award goes to the highest goal scorer hardly you will find a midfielder that wins it....

Who won the Golden Ball at the last Nations Cup?

The process is the same, all managers and captain votes on what they think, or do you think the African Footballer of the year was invented by AFRICANS?

You are a pathetic fool, is the award not base on individual performance ? Mikel that is a bench warmer ....individually is mikel better than toure, confused children, just come here to talk trash because techno now has cheap mobile phones that can surf the net ... Nonsense!!!

You couldn't put it any better

The golden ball award at the 2010 World cup didnt go to a Spanish or Dutch player it went to Diego Forlan why because of his performance and not what he won
Sports / Re: It Will Be A Criminal Act If Mikel Does Not Win African Player Of The Year by babyboy3(m): 12:01pm On Jan 06, 2014
PezzoNovante: I have read the argument between Safarigirl, Psalmdave an striker9, and I am supremely confident to say that PSALMDAVE is talking nonsense!, Afcon award goes to an individual with the most contribution to his country and club success. Mikel Obi contributed a lot to Nigerian's recent football success.
Maybe psalmdave watches only 'European' football cos he seems to mention it a lot.
#TeamMikel

Look Kanu didn't win a plastic cup let alone a silver one in 1999, But won the AFOTY...... Why didnt everyone protest that Kanu didnt deserve it loads of Africans won titles across the globe. Now people want to move the goal post. Its how you perform its not what you win.

Babayaro in 1998 won the League, European Cup Winners Cup and European Super Cup but Mustapha Hadji won the accolade

What the hell are you talking about, does Messi have to score just to prove your point? or are you talking about the Nigeria v Argentina game at the world cup! it doesn't change the fact that he shipped 5 goals in the group stage!

All I said was he is not playing in any of the top level competition to really prove himself, who cares whether Messi doesnt score against him. Diego Maradona and Hristo Stoijkov didn't score against Rufai at the 1994 world cup, does that mean Rufai is the best?

Sports / Re: Enyeama Is Europe’s Best Goalkeeper by babyboy3(m): 8:26am On Jan 06, 2014
mikwayne: Statistics shows that Vincent Enyeama is the best goalkeeper in the major leagues across Europe in the 2013/14 football season.

Painstaking research by supersport.com proves that the ratio of saves made to goals conceded by the Nigerian is by far and away the most impressive, compared to any goalkeeper at any football club in any of Europe’s top leagues this season.

The 31-year-old conceded eight goals in 19 league appearances for Lille OSC this season and was voted best player in Ligue 1 on two consecutive occasions ahead of stellar individuals like Thiago Silva, Edinson Cavani, Mathieu Valbuena, Radamel Falcao and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Enyeama’s saves made to goals conceded ratio stands at seven, well ahead those of established goalkeepers like Victor Valdés (FC Barcelona), Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus) and Morgan de Sanctis (AS Roma).

Valdés’ saves made to goals conceded ratio in the 13 league games he played for FC Barcelona this season stands at 4.4 while Neuer’s in his 16 Bundesliga games this season was pegged at 3.9.

Italy, the land famous for tight defences, catenaccio and legendary goalkeepers produced the fourth and fifth best stoppers using statistics in the first half of the 2013/13 season as the yardstick.

Veteran Juventus man, Buffon’s figures as far as the ratio of goals conceded to saves made stood at 2.3 while De Sanctis who has been in supreme form for AS Roma managed 2.2.

Buffon has made 16 league appearances for La Vecchia Signora this season while De Sanctis has made 17 Serie A appearances for the Giallorossi this term.

Enyeama’s recent accomplishments have attracted words of adulation from Nigeria’s goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu who believes the former Enyimba star has had a barnstorming season.

“I work with (Enyeama) whenever he’s back on international duty so this news brings a smile to my face. He is making us proud and more importantly the fact that these things are happening during the season leading to the World Cup is fantastic,” Shorunmu told supersport.com on Thursday.

Enyeama made his debut for Nigeria in 2002 and has been capped 88 times by the Super Eagles

Sports / Re: Is Victor Moses Overrated? by babyboy3(m): 7:52am On Jan 06, 2014
I wont say over-rated but he lacks focus and commitment, sometimes footballers do struggle to make the one big step up from a small club to a big club. Moses was a fantastic player at Wigan and he even played the lone striker role but for him to move to Chelsea more is expected, he thinks dribbling is everything, something that harmed Jay Jay early on in his career when he was a show man, Moses didnt work for the team the way someone like Solomon Kalou will do in the same position. Look at players who have lesser skills and ability on the ball than Moses, Theo Walcott, Daniel Sturridge, Lennon etc but they are committed and hard working. I guess he thought the honeymoon period he had with Benithez will continue under Jose. I feel for him, he reminds of Shaun Wright-Philips if care is not taken he could find himself in the league below.

In the Book of Matthew did say when you give, dont make noise about it. People used this as a publicity stunt.

My Jamaican friend once told me that the white man will always give a the black man little just to keep him happy, why because during slavery or colonialism they made Blackman strong but mentally weak! Thats why some western countries will give us millions in aid, then take billions in resources. When are we going to stop celebrating mediocre achievements?

How much did it cost? Heathrow recently open T5, people didnt go GaGa over the achievement. MMA needed another runway which is more important. Its a good job but its not something that will get my juices flowing. The long term vision of an aviation minister of Nigeria is to make (MMA) Lagos the African hub.

Now lets say Lagos state manage to complete their alleged airport in Lekki and make a hub which more flights in a day than MMA, this could easily bury MMA for good

100% Spot on........

A chunk of Nigerians do celebrate mediocre things

Sports / Re: List Uncapped in-form Players Keshi Should Call-up by babyboy3(m): 12:12pm On Dec 23, 2013
breezy047:

It is due to the lack of a quality attacking midfielder in the team.

At the afcon when Mba was still a beast, he was the one surging forward and joining the attack, spraying passes and running.

Mikel and Onazi only sat back to protect the defence and deliver long balls to the strikers or wings when necessary.

This was the perfect setting. We got the best from Mikel and onazi both defensively and on counter attacks when they would suddenly look up and send a killer long ball pass to Emenike.

But this setting crashed with the fall of Mba. No one to do the prolific attacking midfieder job. Initially at the confeds, Mikel was used at that role, but he usually tired out after about 70mins, plus the defence didn't get the best of his protective cover anymore, and we couldn't get any of the killer long ball passes too.

Keshi has since experimented with that position. Trying out Oduamadi in that role has proved very devastative. Trying out Moses too in that role hasn't really fit. Reuben gabriel just like Mba has gone match rusty.

What we need now to get the best out of our midfield once again is a good attacking midfielder. And the choices at present are:

Haruna lukman
Ramon azeez
Joel Obi
Micheal Olaitan.
Kelechi Iheanacho
I would pick either Haruna or Ramon.

When we get the good AM, the problem is solved. Mikel would not have to worry much about going forward which exposes the defence and deprives him of his long balls. Likewise Onazi.

You have a point but what Omar was trying to say is that if we come across a better player or option than what we have been using should we excercise such option? Most countries will be open minded about who will be in the starting 11 until the very last moment

But the way he was treated by West Brom was disgusting

When Di Matteo brought in Osaze to a team that normally goes down after it comes up his goals placed them firmly for survival, but when they settled in the shafted the Nigerian player. The mid season transfer mix up was started by West Brom

Almost every participating country as a standout performer been looked up to come the summer e.g. Ronaldo, Neymar, Messi, Rooney, Balotelli, Yaya Toure, Gyan etc abeg who we get? Smh

GYAN grin grin grin

The main fact here is that the pitch grass in Brazil is harder and will be left to grow longer and wont be cut as short as what we see in Europe, and wetting the grass will not happen unless it rains, so all the silky moves you see in Europe will disappear and your ability on the ball will be questioned
