thegoodjoehunt: As for Mineiro, there was a mix up, what we are talking about is not today. If you read the wiki page, the announcement was posted after Minero had played for Chelsea. So Mineiro being a back up wasn't clear. I think Mikel started the 3rd or 4th game of the season back in Aug/Sep after he has experienced Deco in the midfield trio and failed, but Mineiro made his Chelsea debut on 1 November 2008 So something is missing here? |
Sports / Re: It Will Be A Criminal Act If Mikel Does Not Win African Player Of The Year by babyboy3(m): 10:33pm On Jan 07, 2014 |
thegoodjoehunt: Let us leave long story. There was no reason for Scolari to sign Mineiro. He had Mikel, Beletti could play that role as a back up. Mineiro was brought to drop Mikel. From Wiki On 24 September 2008, it was announced that Mineiro had signed for Chelsea as a backup for the injured Michael Essien until the end of the 2008–09 season. Mineiro made his Chelsea debut on 1 November 2008 against Sunderland in a league match. He came on for Nicolas Anelka who had already scored a hat-trick leading Chelsea to a 5–0 victory.[3] Despite already having played for Chelsea he was not formally revealed to the press until 7 November during a press conference at Chelsea's training ground in Cobham, Surrey. During the press conference it was confirmed Mineiro was on a contract to play as Chelsea's third choice defensive midfielder.[4] Mineiro played just twice for Chelsea, and his only start was against Burnley in the League Cup. Bobo stop am oooooo |

thegoodjoehunt: If Forlan is was converted to a defensive midfielder early in his career and never given a chance to play forward, he would never have been known as one of the best attacking players of a generation. Mikel has never, not even once been given a chance at Chelsea to play there because of the amount of attacking players that have been at Chelsea. Like Deco, Joe Cole, Ballack, Tiago, Lampard, Raul Meireiles etc. Even now you have Oscar, Hazard, Willian, Mata, Van Ginkel, De Bruyne, Schurlle, Josh McEachran. On loan are Marin, Lucas Paizon, Oriol Romeu. Do you know about an East German player called Matthais Sammer? Who was a Striker, then winger, then midfielder, then Sweeper then he won the Ballon D'or! Mikel might play the number 10 role for Nigeria, but for Chelsea he is too slow and doesnt think fast enough, for Nigeria or international the pace of the game is slow almost at walking pace |

thegoodjoehunt: Nope Mineiro wasn't a back up but a quick fix. He was more experienced than Mikel. He even started playing more games than Mikel before he flopped and Mikel took the position. Scolari First wanted Ballack and Lampard to share the responsibility with Deco at the tip of the triangle by the 3 or 4th game Essien is gone due to injury Mikel came in the team and the rest is history |

thegoodjoehunt: So what did you mean by the statement if not to belittle Mikel's exploit in the game. Common Jose played Essien all over the field, he moved Gallas out to the left, he got Mikel young so its an easy job, Pedro Leon was just stubborn |
Sports / Re: It Will Be A Criminal Act If Mikel Does Not Win African Player Of The Year by babyboy3(m): 5:18pm On Jan 07, 2014 |
thegoodjoehunt: I actually wanted to point out that actually the fact is that most Chelsea coaches when brought in feel to transform Chelsea, they need Mikel out. Including Scolari bringing Mineiro. As time goes on, they realise that Mikel is critical to Chelsea's success. Only Di Matteo stuck with Mikel from the start and he repayed Di Matteo with a memorable performance against Bayern and Barca. Mineiro was back up to Mikel because they release Makalele, he wasnt there to take Mikel's place |

xtervaganza: man, even as I do not agree with your constant bashing of Mikel, I think you're a good football fan, you always come up with good points. Look I like him as a player the only thing I disagree with is I feel Yaya Toure is a better player, I, plus thousands of Chelsea fans at Stanford bridge who feel Mikel plays safe and sometimes he frustrates fans? by going sideways and backwards. Mourinho wanted the next Pirlo someone to control the game, some times Oscar comes deep to collect the ball off him, may be its a confidence thing i don't know... |

thegoodjoehunt: You clearly didn't watch the match against Derby. If you did, you would know that Chelsea put out a strong squad and found the game difficult. By the way we are talking about long range passing ability. Mikel showed he could do it at the AFCON, Confeds and you can notice it in the Derby match. Makes you think I didnt see the game? I hate it when people jump to conclusion, I only said Derby and you jumped to conclusion, It was a game Chelsea dominated from start to finish yes Derby had a 15 - 20 minutes moment of dominance. Look you are talking to a Chelsea fan I know Mikels strength and weaknesses as a holding player. The main reason Chelsea pushed Mikel deep was because between 2004 to 2006 without the brilliance of Robben and Duff or Chelsea goes direct to Drogba we found it hard to maintain possession because Lampard is not that great neither was Essien. They wanted Mikel to be a deep lying play-maker because he is comfortable on the ball, but aim has failed to materialised. |

sleekymag: Truth is Mikel has always been underrated because he doesn't score much goals but I tell you that guy is a big big asset to any title winning team. He deserves the AFOTY 2013 award. Head to head he outshone Yaya andDrogba at the nations cup. With Mourinho he also beat Man City at the Stamford Bridge 2-1 by frustrating Yaya this season. Mourinho initially overlooked him when he just came in as he was trying to find Chelsea's best eleven. Overtime he realized Mikel is actually Chelsea's best holding midfielder better than Ramires,Lamparrd and others for that position. Mikel I tell u is underrated and unappreciated by the untrained eyes.. There's a reason he always makes it despite the plethora of chelsea's coaches, Mourinho,Avram Grant, Scolari, Hiddink, Ancelotti, AVB, Di Matteo, Benitez and Mouringo again. Mourinho - First time around he was an understudy to Makalele Avram Grant - Actually the Isreali manager didn't fancy Mikel and Makalele captained Chelsea when bothTerry and Lampard were out injured during the Christmas period, he actually prefered Julio Belletti to Mikel when Makalele is out. Strong chance of Mikel getting a red card than playing. Scolari, - Scolari liked Mikel because he loves his ball on the ground and Essien had a bad Injury but he was sacked Hiddink - He preferred Lampard, Ballack and Essien as the midfield trio Ancelotti, - He also preferred Lampard, Ballack and Essien as the midfield trio until when Essien ruptured his knee in an International game with Libya this gave Mikel a very long run, the following season Ramires joined and Mikel found himself on the bench AVB, - Preferred Ramires, Merelles wasnt sure about Lampard which eventually got him the sack, He also thought Oriol Romeu was matured enough to take Mikels place Di Matteo - Liked Mikel ahead of Essien to partner Merelles and moved Ramires out wide, then sold Mereles and Partnered Mikel with Lampard which cost him his job because the team wasn't balanced Benitez - Preferred Ramires and Lampard with Mikel as cover but at times Benithez felt with Mikel the build up to attack is very slow. and Mouringo again - Jose thought Van Ginkle will take Mikel's place but Injury, he loaned Oriol Romeu to get more experience, Essien is now a spent force, Lampard well it seems age is catching up on him and the only Mikel seems to fair better alongside Ramires who is the engine of Chelsea's midfield. So its a myth if you feel that Mikel was a first choice under every manager Tell me why was Mikel on the bench when Chelsea played the top teams, Liverpool, Man City, Manchester United only started against Arsenal? |

thegoodjoehunt: Please everyone in the Supersport studio including Oliseh, Kuffour and Ruud Gull it said Mikel was clearly the best player at the AFCON. Do you think they are also not your type? Supersport studio does not speak for the whole of Africa, Gullit has Chelsea written all over his face, Oliseh well patriotism Sammy Kuffour well? are you saying those who gave it to the other player were watching a different tournament |

You just shot yourself in the foot You used Ronaldo's goal to Justify him getting the award Yaya Toure is on an incredible goal scoring run |

Look some people here are like a scratched Terry G CD that keeps on repeating it self. They just cant accept that even Mourinho will swap Mikel for Yaya in a heart beat if its possible 1 Like |

striker9: Its a shame that Yaya's fan can't even mention a single achievement of his in 2013,Aubameyang had 19goals for Saint Etienne last season, nobody raised an eyebrow, now that Yaya's gotten 12goals without any achievement we no go hear word. Well 12 goals in 5 months that's 2 goals more than Mikel has scored in his entire career (almost 400 games 10 goals) |

safarigirl: okay, so how come Drogba that plays for Gala and La Casera in a Looney Tunes league got nominated for top 3 over Enyeama that plays in the Ligue 1? Prior to Galatsaray, let's remember that Drogba was in the Chinese league, is that better than the Israeli league? Your argument is baseless. Dumbo at what point in 2013 was Drogba playing in China? Like I said your knowledge about football could fit on a post stamp |

safarigirl: list Yaya's achievements IN 2013. Why tell us how many appearances? We're talking about just ONE year- 2013. In the year under review, Mikel was better. When they ask the best OVER-ALL, we can say Yaya. It's like a student who comes first every term, everyone knows he's the best in the class, but if someone else comes first in one term, whoever takes that position is adjudgjed the best student IN THAT TERM, does that mean the guy who comes first every other year isn't the best? No. Ask Skysports, ESPN, BBC and FOX and they'll tell you Mikel was the BEST IN 2013. The more you argue the more you sound ridiculous Who came first? Anyone remember Liverpool's Djimi Traoré who plays left back when Liverpool won the Champions League in 2005.. To some people's looney logic they should have given him the African Player of the year award. |

safarigirl: mumu, na only you no know say Enyeama don sign contract till 2017 with Lille i.e HE'S NOT FOR SALE. Lol, Guardiola didn't fancy him, Mikel played under up to 6 different coaches with different tactics and he was never sold, because Mikel can ADAPT to any style, he's VERSATILE, your Toure is stagnant. Who is better then? A stagnant Toure or a versatile Mikel? Jeez! All these JJC's are just making my football IQ reduce with their lame arguments. Imagine this one doesn't even know Enyeama's contract has been renewed. Chai! Dumbo if you dont know anything about football SHUT THE F""K UP, because someone signs a contract doest mean he cant he sold, Gervinho was under contract with Lille and they still sold him to Arsenal, Hazard was on Contract with Lille and the still sold him to Chelsea. Calling Yaya stagnant sows that everything you know about football could fit on a post stamp. Oh Gosh....... |

safarigirl: my friend answer my question instead of dodging. Why didn't Enyeama break the European clean sheet record in a weak Israeli league? League is league, how many clean sheets did Neuer make last season? You wanted to belittle the fact that Enyeama was better than Toure in 2013, now you're dodging my question? Can you not support your argument with valid points? I dey wait you, you must tell me how many consecutive clean sheets Neuer had in 2012/2013 Neuer had 9 clean sheets |

Sports / Re: It Will Be A Criminal Act If Mikel Does Not Win African Player Of The Year by babyboy3(m): 1:07pm On Jan 06, 2014 |
safarigirl: so he's great in EPL,tell me, why hasn't the great Toure won Champions League with City? He's great, why couldn't he survive in La Liga? You think it's easy to be in Chelsea for 7 years? Why was Toure outclassed in Barcelona if he's world class? Enyeama has the highest average saves in EUROPE, beating GK's like Valdes, Buffon, Neuer, Lloris. He's not just the best African goalie you oaf, your Toure has the best record by an AFRICAN in Europe, but there are better non-African mid-fielders than him, Enyeama was the BEST GK, NOBODY was better than him, and you have the guts to come here and belittle his achievements? You think it's easy for a GK to win Player of the Month in ANY League over strikers? Please if the alomo you drank is affecting your system, keep your thoughts to yourself instead of sounding like a brainless 1d10t. What a load of Rubbish your talking KAKA!!! , Guardiola didn't fancy him does that mean he is a bad player, he was bought by Frank Rijkaard and yes he won the CL with Barcelona, Guardiola didnt fancy Ibrahimovich, Eto, Deco, Thuram, Thiago Motta I guess that means they are bad players? I believe both Eto and Motta that Guardiola booted out went on to win the CL with Inter - Milan. Mikel staying at Chelsea for 7 years means what? he spent half the time warming the bench and Enyeama played in a mickey mouse league. We are in a European transfer window lets see how many big clubs that coming in for the great Vincent. |
