thesicilian: My own observation so far is, the deposed democratic leaders must have been so unpopular and unbeneficial to the masses for there to be so much support for the military take over.
And besides, I've always thought that democracy is not always the best system of government, as it's not really about merit, but popularity. This is not so. The deposed president is from the minority tribe and those in support of the coup are from the majority tribe. Even if he's not popular, military takeover is not an option. Those military guys have nothing to offer than to embezzle the nations resources. We're it to be a soldier from the minority tribe that plotted the coup, what would have been the reaction of the majority tribe? |

RemoveEbola: So, you believe it takes forever before a country can take delivery of such weapons? You think the military leaders would be waiting for Nigeria to invade them without making preparations to defend themselves?
Even if there is airstrikes against them, won't you bring boots on the ground? That's when you will see the real war.
Anyways, I don't see Hausas and Fulanis on both sides killing themselves because of the personal interest of a Yoruba man. They're not that foolish. So, expect the highest level of desertions, traitors and sabotage ever experienced in modern warfare. I can see your brain is wired to believe it is Yoruba-Niger war. The way some of you reason is quiet disturbing. Let me ask you a question. If you happen to be Nigeria president and also doubles as Ecowas Chairman, will you fold your arm and watch helplessly until coup spread to other west African countries? What is your significance as Ecowas leader if you cannot rally other countries and take a decisive actions? |

We understand the country is passing through a lot of challenges and it requires a lot of strategic planning to fix the rot in the system, however, have you thought about the fact that most of the killings attributed to the fulani herdsmen while Buhari was in power will resume if any Fulani gets into power again. People are actually feeling a lot of pain now but this can not be solved overnight. All the Nigerian president have their share of the blame. Had it been Obasanjo during his eight years was able to revamp the power sector, things will not get messy as this. Yaradua also made mistake reversing the sale of the refineries, Jonathan too couldn't make any headway in fixing the power sector likewise Buhari, e be like say dem curse all these leaders to the the needful. |

What we are experiencing is a result clueless leadership and failed economic policies. We have a self acclaimed book keeper who has no idea what simple economics of supply and demand is. These marketers are very wicked. Once there's speculation about price hike, the next thing they do is closing their filling stations and then creating artificial scarcity. Their plan is to sell their old stock at the new price thus making excess profit on the old stock. People will just be exploiting and making life inconvenient for their fellow citizens and they are the same set that will be blaming people at the top for corruption. |

Tinubu removed subsidy without a palliative in place. It's just like saying to the hungry, go to the dining table and eat your food, when the raw food to be cooked hasn't even left the marketplace You're ignorant. There was no provision for subsidy in the 2023 budget effective July 2023. So it wasn't Tinubu that removed it but there was no provision for it. |

Unfortunately, impulsiveness and unbridled pride go hand in hand. I just wish his close handlers could find a way to curtail his weakness in this regard; else, Nigerians are in for a long rough ride.
Up till date, he is still secretly regretting the impulsive declaration of an end to the petroleum subsidy regime without first perfecting and implementing cushioning mechanism before the formal end of the petroleum subsidy regime, which his inner circle had earlier suggested and to which he assented. Was it Tinubu that removed subsidy on petroleum? You people still don't get it, there was no provision for subsidy in 2023 budget. |

My orientation about religion change when I left Nigeria. African leaders made people to resort to praying for breakthrough, employment, success, favour, fruits of the womb etc while in advanced countries, the government were able resolve at least 70% of their needs. Jobs, education, health, roads, electricity, water and so on were tackled by their respective governments, you own is to ensure you pay bills and taxes. African leaders should do the needful and provide dividends of democracy to their people. In UK, hardly can you see churches and mosques in some street or even some towns but in Nigeria, imagine the rate at which churches and mosques are multiplying and these does not translate to employment rather crime rate keeps increasing. The productive time people should have used in working and fetching income for themselves are spent in revivals, crusades and other religious programmes mainly because the government fail to provide and create enabling environment for jobs to be created. Most of these African leaders visit advanced nations and they see how things work but why is it difficult for them to replicate same in the different countries? |

If the coup didn't occur, the sanctions wouldn't have happened Meanwhile, if the coup was sponsored by a military personnel from the minority tribe in Niger, would the people in the majority tribe be comfortable and accepted it? It is a lesson for Bazoum and other African leaders still practicing democracy that once you take over power, you need to rejig and reshuffle the security apparatus especially the head. I learnt the guy that plotted the coup worked with the former president for several years and Bazoum did not deem it fit to retire and replace him with someone who can be loyal to him. |

Finally, the deadline Tinubu gave the Junta in Niger Republic elapsed without any action from Tinubu. Now, can you see the people you want to go war with?

What people don't understand is that you can't just jettison people that worked tirelessly to ensure you emerged victorious in an election. You need to balance it so as not to appear ungrateful and not appreciative. Those castigating Tinubu on his choice of Ministers will do same if they find themselves in a position of authority. Some of them even think it was only Tinubu that singlehandedly picked all the ministers. Some of the ministers are recommended by their respective state governors, retired head of states and some political leaders. To rule a country like Nigeria whose citizens are so divided along ethnic and religious line is not easy. Any action a government takes will always be misinterpreted by way of religion or ethnic colouration. Now I know uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. You'll never understand the pressure embedded in a position until you find yourself there. |
