Malam Mamman Daura is a younger brother to General Muhammadu Buhari’s father, so he is an uncle to General Buhari. They are related by the bond of the blood. And that relationship is always very strong, particularly when they understand themselves with mutual respect.

Now that Buhari is in power as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the relationship is said to have even taken another dimension.

When Buhari overthrew Shagari in 1983, Daura was one of the few people Buhari trusted enough to give principal advisory roles. By the late 1980s, he had succeeded Ibrahim Dasuki as the head of the African International Bank.

He later also served as chairman of the board of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and if there is anyone who Buhari always listened to and confided in over the years, it is Mamman Daura but many are now complaining that the relationship is getting too close for comfort and will affect all the policies of the Buhari administration which is already struggling to cope with economic and security challenges.

The closure of land borders by the Federal Government was done in good faith, Chairman Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Gobir has said. Recently, we did a feature on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, in the report, we share images of the construction and how the work is faring. It will be recalled that the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway has been in the news for years over the neglect of the road and how the road was totally unmotorable coupled with the fact that trailer, tankers ply this road often. Well, it seems the once dreaded road may be having a make-over as being reported by AutoReportNG.

It will be recalled that the reconstruction of Apapa-Oshodi Expressway was started by Dangote Group, under the Road Infrastructure Development & Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme aka Executive Order 007 signed by Pres. Buhari in January 2019 (Dangote awarded the contract to Hitech). The road construction is said to take 24 months to finish.

For those familiar with the Apapa-Wharf road, it will be recalled that Dangote Group and some industries teamed up together to reconstruct the Apapa-Wharf Road citing the ta relief reforms.

Seriake Dickson, governor of Bayelsa state, has appointed 60 new special advisers.

This development was announced in a statement signed on Thursday by Fidelis Soriwei, chief press secretary to the governor.

The appointees, drawn from the eight local government areas of the state, Soriwei said would help the government finish well.

“His Excellency the Governor of Bayelsa State, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, has approved the appointment of 60 new Special Advisers as part of the deliberate efforts to enable the Restoration Government to finish strong in the avowed commitment to deliver effective governance to the good people of Bayelsa State,” the statement read.

The appointment comes weeks to the state’s governorship election fixed for November 16.

Soriwei further said the “governor has directed the caucuses to nominate women for appointment as special advisers next week, in areas where they have not been considered for appointment.

“However, the government and the party deplore the ungrateful and unpatriotic attitude of a few appointees who have been sustained and recognised in the midst of far more qualified persons for over seven years but are falling prey to the antics of the All Progressives Congress which is inducing party members with money and fake promises.

“While the government wishes them well in their new endeavours, it is pertinent to note that for every appointee, the PDP has several other more qualified people who are ready and willing to be trusted with such privileged positions of responsibility.”

Dickson, who is completing a second term, have had over 2000 appointees in his cabinet since he got reelected in 2016.
