^^ Who let this baboon out of its cage?? Must the name "Bamsyle" always pop out of your slimy mouth?? Stark illiterate - coming here to catch trips over Twitter that's been around for years?? You're always late for everything - born late, was admitted into school late, graduated late, discovered Twitter late ![]() What's next?? Buffoon ![]() |
^^ Bro you forgot to log in as Benjamz ![]() |
pro01:Fallacy. D'Banj may not have anything to offer lyrically, but he's an entertainer . . . plus he's got a signature style and a well branded image - look through the whole Nigerian Music Industry and tell me any other artiste that's better packaged/branded than D'Banj?? You're forgetting that music of these days is more about business than anything else . . . D'Banj has his fair share of the market - folks who don't need all those mind-stimulating or nerve-racking music, folks who just wanna have fun dancing away their troubles, etc . . . akatas would dance more rigorously to a negro that jumps on stage to scream "I'm Skibanj" over crazy beats than a griot who just wanna preach some homiletic. I'm just not so convinced that he has the uniqueMake a list of the top 10 artistes on the globe now - tell me how many of them have ALL of those qualities you listed up there?? From your list, the only quality I agree that D'Banj lacks completely is the ability to tell a compelling story . . . but then I wonder if one actually needs that to "make a cross-cultural sensation"?? Fela was the quintessential artiste, but how many compelling stories were in KSA's or Obey's songs in their hey days?? Talking about artistic depth, that is an ambiguous term . . . while I agree that he has not the lyrical nous, he knows "his music" by heart - he plays the type of music that he knows he's naturally suited for . . . he's an entertainer, he's got stage craft, he's known to play an instrument, and he doesn't sing off-key etc - he def'ly scores some points here. The boy would be a mere lifeless skeleton without the flesh of Don Jazzy's deft beats and production (unlike Wande Coal who I think has enough talent to stand on his own). It's not by making gratingly repetitive and utterly meaningless exclamations that a musician captures the attention of a global audience. And have you ever paused to consider what an A-Class MC like Biggie would be without P.Diddy?? Though he'll still have excelled, we'll have missed the heaven-made tango . . . any skilled artiste can hold his own without the assistance of a quality producer, and while I agree that some tangos are more suitable than others, a D'Banj would have still made it without Don Jazzy . . . all producers have their "signature artistes" - OJB has produced several acts but who can forget his tango with Ruggedman?? I daresay that the relationship is always symbiotic. If we're talking about originality as a basis for competing internationally then we might as well forget the whole Nigerian afro-hip/pop/R&B community and look in the direction of the likes of Lagbaja, Femi Kuti and perhaps Nneka.I agree (to an extent) with this last point . . . but then a lot of the Naija artistes playing contemporary music are just evolving . . . if you look at the industry like 7-10 years ago, you would conclude that all these artistes could never cross international boundaries . . . but I tell you that with some stuff that we get to hear these days, some of the A-list "local" artistes we have now are actually "international stars" in the making . . . plus, the world keeps getting smaller and smaller, music made in small communities now filters into the stratosphere, blogosphere and everywhere . . . It's all a matter of time. |
Good news . . . about time. Hehehe, Lil' Wayne and his pongy mouth ![]() |
Magnito is dope . . . he's got sick flows and mad wordplay . . . he prolly needs to expand his base to gain more recognition (from Abj to Lag). It's too early to start comparing him with MI though . . . MI aces him on delivery, attitude and a number of other points . . . Magnito doesn't even have enough body of work yet to enable a comparison . . . plus MI's diction is one of his strongest points . . . he aces a lot of other Naija rappers on that. More stuff from Magnito: http://www.4shared.com/get/xc68ZM4M/Magnito_-_Welcome_to_Afghanist.html (Welcome to Afghanistan) http://www.iwantairplay.com/hman (Baby Boy - H-man ft. Magnito) |
^^Oops . . . true. Heard the guy (T.Boy) is dead ![]() |
Ain't he the one that recently featured on Ruggedman's "Sanwo"?? |
kel2real:I Agree 150% . . . Maybe I'm one of a handful of people who believe in this guy . . . he rarely gets accolades for his work, and methinks he's dope . . . folks complain about his voice but he's a very creative songwriter and lyricist - always with a good concept for his songs. |
^^Eldee is an illiterate ![]() |
^^Eyah . . . but I miss her too . . . whatever happened to the old times?? ![]() |
^^This is how you manage to hold the record of "member with the highest number of posts" . . . by telling us what you listen to all day?? ![]() |
04kaa, una wan kill me?? Pitting all these titans against me - from Tosin to eldee and who knows who's next?? ![]() |
@eldee I don't even see what we're arguing about here . . . read my first post on this thread again - I made a somewhat tongue-in-cheek statement . . . I even inserted a grin smiley after that . . . and concluded by highlighting the areas where AQ needs improvement . . . and then you come in here to whine and cry?? What happened to your wits eldee?? Ahbu Ventures ko, Abu Dhabi ni . . . I'm talking about the substance of MI2 . . . it was crap. When a dude has a great debut, folks rush to the stores to cop his sophomore - it's common logic . . . doesn't mean the album is good . . . the craze and madness generated by the hype did not match the overall lacklustre performance MI gave on the album - be honest to yourself. So now we're agreeing Naeto C's Share My Blessings ain't all that?? Of course it's not only better than AQ's freestyles, he's generally a better rapper than AQ . . . that much I said in my first post where I said "Naeto C is just a few notches above this dude" . . . plus you said it yourself - Naeto C's strongest point is his charisma. See someone boasting about "his reviews" . . . if I were you, I'll keep that as an ace up ma sleeves . . . you're just starting and you know relatively nutin . . . some folks have been doing it for ages ![]() This argument of yours just shows that you're a poor reader . . . this debate would have been needless if you had read my post carefully ![]() |
@Eldee I listened to Share My Blessings (with Asa) immediately it became available earlier this year . . . with all the hype and all . . . you think that was good music?? Of course MI makes good music . . . his debut and the Illegal Music Mixtape were the shiot . . . but MI2 was utter rubbish abeg. Now you're talking - D'Prince makes good pop music . . . which brings to fore my argument - some dudes refer to him as not only a rapper, but a good one at that. And, hey, when it comes to Nigerian Hip Hop, the real sales are from Alaba Market . . . forget all that nonsense about Twitter where all of una dey craze now . . . trending how you took moimoi and pap for breakfast and what-not ![]() Hehehe, a fan of pop is chatting crap . . . how much of Nigerian Hip Hop do you know?? Apart from MI, which other Nigerian rapper do you really know apart from those whose names you see on nairaland?? Don't even make me enter that zone with you. Your prob is that you were in a haste to post . . . I never said AQ is dope . . . I was talking in relative terms and if you must jump in to critic' my comments, read carefully before you do. |
Eldee, you dey craze! You need to listen carefully to some so-called dope artistes and you'll recognize that wackness and dopeness, at times, are like love and hate - thin line. Agreed he can't get his flow right . . . I already mentioned that . . . I must confess I dunno much about him though, but I just thought that if he could do "Names", then he can def'ly get better. As to Naeto C and Snoop Dogg, who mentioned lyrics?? It's on forums like nairaland that people scream themselves hoarse over "lyrics" . . . Snoop is an entertainer, he doesn't lay any claim to being a lyricist . . . there must be a reason he's got many fans. And how does Naeto C "get his flow right"?? Just cos he can connect one bar to another?? Any Tom, Abdullahi, and eldee can do that Doesn't mean they're flowing right. You're a jackass . . . you need to visit an otologist if you think that pile of thrash was a good album . . . boring flows, average lyrics, lacklustre delivery . . . and since when did groupies doing their thang on the internet explain what happens in the real world?? BTW, 04kaa, I foresee a battle between Abdullahi Eldee tha Legend and AQ - set it up now! ![]() |
eldee:Hehehe, who snatched this whining baby's bread?? Ok, lemme break thangs down in simpler Anglais so semi-literate folks like Eldee can understand it . . . I took AQ as I saw him . . . and he ain't dope . . . but, going further, I wondered why you lot would critic' AQ so harshly when so-called rappers like And bruv, take that ish on MI2 back . . . that album is a heap of sun-baked cow dung . . . talk about wavering standards . . . yardstick ko, joystick ni ![]() Now, relax, breathe and let that digest well before you come back here to cry me a river ![]() |
^^ ![]() Tosin is too dope to spit anything for nairaland o . . . he spits on another forum . . . it's called Una go kill pesin with lafta for hia ![]() Mobin' . . . you remind me of 2pac's "So Many Tears" ![]() |
^^ You want make Tosin finish me?? He's the illest MC I've ever come across in my life. |
^^Blunt ke?? Blunt ko, James Blunt ni. Mi o le fi Tosinadeda shey Piers Morgan . . . joor oh ![]() Lol@ 04kaa |
tosinaded@:Unlike you, I ain't biased . . . I'm sure that if I was the OP, and the thread says "Bamsyle Recommends XYZ . . .", Tosin would have been the first poster to criticize, even if my 'artiste' is dope. Nor be say me and you hate each other for this forum o . . . but me I go always say thangs bluntly. Hehehehe. |
Are you high on ground pepper?? How can you lump the icon Fela with 2face and D'Bang?? |
The dude that invented the term "wack(ness)" must be turning in his grave now . . . how can this song be wack?? Dunno what "Wackness" means to some folks . . . but for me, it's sumn like a DJ Zeez & Flo-Rida doing the tango. I'm not particularly a D'Banj fan, but the vid is nice . . . song is not all that, but Snoop came up with an ok verse. The joint ain't the shiot . . . but it ain't wack either. It ain't Majek and Nas, fellas . . . it's D'Banj and Snoop Dogg. |
Like Rapjunkie noted, "Names" is AQ's high point . . . Why're peops labelling this dude "wack"?? By Nigerian standards, he's not! In a country where many folks refer to D'Prince as a rapper . . . hell, Naeto C, with all the hype, is just a few notches above this dude ![]() On the real though, dude can up his game . . . needs to work wella on his flows - e'rrthing's scattered all over the place . . . plus he needs to say stuff from deep down his belly, and not from his oesophagus - makes him sound like he's choking on the beat. |
@Semid Aiight mahn . . . peace ![]() Erm, I need to go watch Drake n Rihanna's Grammy performance on YouTube . . . just heard some spicy gist . . . ![]() |
semid4lyfe:Eldee said Rhymestein . . . where you take see Bamsyle for that verse?? Semid, you need to visit Vision Express . . . ![]() @OP Nice thread . . . Medjai, Jamez et al, I see you . . . 3D. |
^^Aiight mahn . . . Patiently Waiting. |
Dang . . . the song (from Kecs) is dope . . . I luv the Bones, Thugz n Harmony rhythm. @Mobinga Lol . . . I see you - 3D mahn . . . what's the qualms with Benjamz?? |
Dre over-rated?? Never!!! Selecting one of the two is a challenge for the following reasons: Dr Dre: If Gangsta Rap, G-funk, or West Coast Rap is concerned, he towers above all other producers in the game. Dre has a flawless sound (I can pick out each n every bit of his instrumentals e'rrtime I listen). He doesn't lace his instrumentals with too many accompaniments - just a simple but heavy beat with a few (repetitive) piano accompaniments and yet they're masterpieces. He's one of the few producers whose beats I enjoy even without the vocals. A few instrumentals I rate highly are "Xplosive", "The Watcher", "F*** You", "B**** Please", "What's The Difference" . . . Timbaland: Also a master in the game but he doesn't focus on Hip-Hop only. His style extends to R'n'B, Electro, and Pop-Rap amongst others. Methinks he also towers above several other producers cos of his versatility. His sound is very distinct and judging by his works, I think he's gotta be a perfectionist - each bit n piece of his instrumentals fits uniquely into the overall sound. My fave beats from him include nearly everything he's done for Jay-Z, Bubba Sparxxx, every beat on his "Shock Value", etc . . . it's kinda hard to draft an exclusive list of this dude's phenomenal tracks. Both are giants in their fields, but if push comes to shove though, I'll pick Timbz over Dre. Other producers I highly rate - DJ Premier, Lord Finesse, Pete Rock, Scott Storch, Just Blaze, Kanye West, RZA, Q-tip (wonder where he is these days??) . . . Wyclef Jean (for his versatility) and, erm, P.Diddy (during the Notorious BIG days). |
Naeto C?? Is that a new vitamin?? |
Canibus just loves to sound esoteric when he's in fact either saying simple stuff or not saying anything at all . . . most of the best rappers actually spit lyrics that can be convoluted . . . but they don't necessarily have to use big or long words . . . anyways, I've debated this several times - no long story. @Topic A battle between Em & 'Bis is a classic any day . . . but Em's Can-I-Bitch (with its wit n humour) knocks this track out . . . plus, in the Grand Scheme of Things, Em shits all over Canibus - handz down, legz up . . . belly flat. |
