My worry is that, this mixture has being consumed by many Nigerians for years. It took Germany flagging it up before NFDAC took any concrete action. How many more of these kind of stuffs are in circulation.. |
This kind of things just breaks my heart. I'm so tired of listening to Nigeria news |
We need to start taking responsibility for our own actions, and stop blaming spirituality for our predicament. Some keeps doing the same thing but expect a different result because he is fasting and praying. And our education isn't helping either. People need to travel to places where things work and see that, despite the spirituality, people are the main determinant of their own future, some people will be purely lucky , some won't, but most will be in-between. |
I have read the responses on this thread and I must say, my heart is broken. I worked in Nigeria for 7yrs and this is my 3rd year working as a doctor in the UK and I must say that most doctors do more than they should be doing . Of course there are bad eggs but majority of the doctors I worked with did more than they should. Let's start from the patients, they will only present when they are already advanced in the course of the illness. At which point you would only be able to palliative them. The hospital system is a fee for service system in which patients have to pay for everything from basic tools to critical lifesaving supplies. I have spent my money on patients on numerous occasions and that was the reason I decided not to be a paediatrician. There is no doctor is happy seeing his/her having bad outcomes. I know of consultants who will be angry with patients on the ward because they have not provided the medications needed, or materials for surgery, but goes into their offices and cry because patients died. Most of the doctors have to develop coping mechanisms in which you try to detach yourself from the patients , if not na everyday heart break. Compared this to UK, patients present early, they present on even normal stuffs meaning you can catch diseases early and they can be treated. And everything is free. The nurses will come to dress wounds in your house. They are well paid for it. And I am really proud of Nigerian doctors all over the world, we are doing amazingly well. We rule where we walk, these oyinbos will ask us how we are able to quickly adapt and function very well. If the general opinion of the general population is what is reflected in this thread. I fear for the remaining doctors. And I have to say this, the elites in Nigeria will come to UK and still come and see us ,the same Nigerian doctors. I think the environment has to be right for people to thrive Same goes for virtually every other occupation. |
If this is the picture of the tires, then questions need to be asked. This tires are obviously worn out, they should have being replaced ages ago. |
I want to understand something please, Mamu was arrested by interpol in Egypt, but he travelled out of Nigeria right? Is it that the DSS can not arrest him in Nigeria? It may be that DSS was ONLY forced to act because interpol already arrested him and they can't just release him, or am I missing something?? |
It really worrying considering the rate of inflammation in Nigeria right now. And it's likely to get worse if things continue this way |
It's a commendable action, however, I don't think its the right step at this moment. At the moment, the centres operating don't have enough booklets to go round, waiting queue is getting longer, and this new centre will also need booklets for the passport. I think it would have being better to build a passport booklet factory and make it easily accessible first and then more centres come on. |
I had medical education in OAU , did residency in UITH before leaving the country and I can say that in majority of cases, consent is sought before students are allowed for examination. There may be few instances that didn't happen but it's not a routine. Consent can be implied or expressed. But yes, consent should be sought before examination are done, this should be expressed when trainees are with the clinician. |
100,000 dose o vaccine by end of Jan sounds like a joke to me, that is enough to vaccinate just 50,000 people ,in a country of 200million. I also think the pfizer biotech vaccine may not be ideal for Nigeria because of the logistics involved in storage and usage. I doubt we have facilities to keep it at less than minus 70 degrees Celsius for a reasonable time. Considering that Pfizer/biotech vaccine is lot more expensive, I would expect to use the money to buy the Astrazeneca vaccine which is cheaper.and easier to store. But then, what do I know?? |
This brings to mind a couple of questions. Is this right to begin with? Ethically , it does not seem to be wrong as he was offered the dose in Dubai and he got it even if he had paid for it. Morally, it may not be right as he left his own country, left his people and probably jumped the queue over there to get it. But I don't think he broke any law. To my fellow country men and women, it may appear that covid-19 is not really affecting Africans, but I would believe it's a false reality, we are not doing enough testing in Nigeria, and South Africa with SOME reasonable testing has recorded over a million cases. Meaning that we don't know the actually number cases , which I believe is far more than the official figure show. I would advice we take the vaccine , that is IF the vaccine even become available in Nigeria. We are far away from making vaccine. We don't even have a structure to trial it. |
It would be nice to see what nigerian feel about receiving the covid vaccine. I have received my first jab as I work for the NHS in UK and now have to wait for the second jab as there are uncertainty about the timing of the second jab. Would like to know if Nigerians would be happy to receive the covid vaccine and which of vaccines A bit of a background The WHO has given emergency authorization for the use of the pfizer/biotech vaccine meaning this would be available for use in developing countries who don't have their own internal mechanism for such decisions, Nigeria inclusive. Also, the Astrazeneca vaccine has being approved in some countries such as the UK and recently ,India. It may well be on course for WHO to approve it , this would be a vaccine for use in developing nations as it's easier to store and transport unlike the pfizer/biotech that needs temperature of less than -70degrees. And there are many more vaccines still in various states of trials, 49 of them are already named. The federal government is planning to spend 400billion naira on vaccine , but it is very important to see what opinions are , if people are willing to receive the jab or not. Studies conducted by the FDA in the USA shows that African-Americans are less likely to receive the jab with as low as 4 in 10 saying they would receive the jab. So, would you be happy to receive the jab?? |
I must say thay after using water for the first 33yrs of my life and now switching to toilet rolls after moving out of Nigeria about a year ago, water is quite cleaner. Tissue paper does not tend to clean all the shits and it definitely leave the smell hanging in the back passage. I try to do my shitting in the house before going to work and sometimes when the inevitable happens at work and I have to you toilet paper, I wash off as soon as I get back home. |
I will like to share my experience. My mom wanted me to marry a different lady who I had always seen as part of our family. My mom was citing God prophesy as reason. She dey fight all ladies she saw with me. But I didn't just like the girl enough to marry her. So I went to NYSC in 2014 and met this lady. My mom refused like die, even went ahead to meet the other ladies parents that as long as she is my mother , I won't marry another person. As God will have it, the new lady FELL PREGNANT and I took responsibility. We fixed a date for the marriage but my mom refused to accept. I already planned going ahead with the marriage without her and invited someone else to stand as mother for me. But my sisters and her pastors told her that if she doesn't attend the wedding, she should forget she has children. So she came on the Friday before the wedding. We have a beautiful baby girl and now, my mom is all over my daughter. She and my wife get fairly well along but she doesn't speak to my in-laws. As for me, I am almost 3years married and it's looking like we are still date, I am enjoying every second of it. Bottom line, it's your marriage, if you love each other , go for him/ her. |
The OP got it completely wrong, I'm a doctor and I'm already deep in my residency program, and I can categorically tell you, its very wrong for you to come up with this theory and also misleading people on an issue that has been a major setback for us. Genotype is the genetic makeup , phenotype is the expression, though phynotypic expression of a gene can be modified by several factors, gene is the most important of them. AS , AA and SS are genes, and the are inherited according to the Mendelian theory ( for the layman), so you can't have a child with SS gene if you don't have the S GENE abnitio. And thalassemic gene is completely different set of genes. |
The association of resident doctors, university of ilorin teaching hospital branch, held a mega rally today to protest the non payment of their full salary since 2014. This also herald the commencement of a three day warning strike which will come to an end on Sunday. It should be noted that the doctors have always been receiving a percentage of their salary while other members of staff have been fully paid, this has lead to a couple of strike in the past. The chief medical director of the institution, while addressing the doctors, acknowledge the fact that the doctors are been shortchanged but that the balance of their salary will be paid when the federal government disburse the required amount of money. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6rhGbxWnHs MOD please help move to front page https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6rhGbxWnHs

It's said that if you can't make the old system work, no matter how many new systems your bring up they will most likely fail. It's not a function of money in Nigeria, it's a function of management, if we can't manage the money we have now and use it judiciously, getting more money is just a waste of time. Somebody should please talk to this government ABEG. |
Nice write up, but If the interview is in obodo Nigeria, try to get accross to someone who knows someone in the organization. It doesn't hurt to have a help inside. As my friend will say " Hand of God, Leg of Man“. |

He comes in with distended abdomen, febrile, and gasping for breath. You beg, cajole, threaten, to get a history You examine him in the open, because the only one available screen is in use. Sometimes no gloves, no water to wash hands But they don't know. X-rays can only be done between 8am and 12pm. Lab tells u E/U/Cr results will be out in 6 hours after much pressure. You harass the house officer, he goes to the lab and gets harassed. You then go yourself and get your own dose of harassment. Still they don't know. You plead with the anaesthetist, you sign to take full responsibility to get them operate without the result because you feel the patient doesn't have 4 hours. Your career/life is on the line. Yet they don't know. You beg the blood bank to provide blood, sometimes the relatives buy, sometimes a member of your team donates But they don't know. You plead with the theatre nurses to open another theatre suite, They refuse, they are understaffed, no one to act as scrub nurse You tell them, no problem, a member of your team will stand in You even promise to wash the instruments afterwards But they don't know You pray the operating table moves You pray the AC works You pray there is gas You hope the artery forceps clamp and the scissors cuts You make sure someone has a phone with flashlight in case the light goes off You make sure you have enough credit on your phone in case you need to call for assistance But they don't know Post-operative Day 3, patient is febrile, vitals are not okay You find out patient has not been getting his drugs He has exhausted his hospital credit facility and has no money You tax yourself, tax your consultant, tax your house-officer, tax the medical students You beg other patients for their extras But they don't know You have being paid part salary since 2014 You are being owed exam and update refunds since 2013 Your colleagues have exited the program without being paid But they don't know. Please let them know, I need money. To buy food, cloth, pay my rent, pay my children school fees, provide basic needs for my FAMILY, and look after my loved ones. I JUST NEED MY SALARY!!! PERIOD!!! And when we say no pay no work, they threaten us with no work, no pay. How can we compete with our colleges overseas when even the most basic of equipments are luxuries to our hospitals. From UBTH |

In a recent German loower league game, SV Vonderort broke an undesirable record when it lost 43-0 to rival PSV Oberhausen. According to German newspaper Express, SV Vonderort was down 35-0 at halftime – that must have been a fun team talk in the interval! – and at one point it was only able to field eight players. PSV Oberhausen was so embarrassed by its lead that it made the sporting gesture of removing three of its own players to even up the numbers. After conceding a goal nearly every two minutes, goalkeeper Marco Kwiotek may have wanted to completely forget about the performance. However, five days later at a training session, two police cars arrived at Vonderort’s training ground in Bottrop (around 30 miles west of Dortmund). The 25-year-old keeper was escorted from the training field by armed officers and brought to the local police station for questioning
