Obiagelli: Kwankwaso/Fashola for me anytime any day, if buhari is not running. They have both proven their worth, Fashola the best from the south and Kwankwaso the best for the north. They both have large following. Forget the Muslim/Muslim nonsense, those that will vote gej will stick with him even if you present jesus Christ. I am yet to see a reason why I should vote tambuwal.Very impressed and I hope and pray it happens |
Kingspin: APC has now become a sickness. How?? |
At the moment the two potential candidates for presidency in 2013 are kano state governor Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Hon Aminu W Tambuwal. Engr Rabiu M Kwankwaso has reformed and Revitalized Kano, the development is visible foe all to see...5 fly over bridges, 5 modern estates with over 2000 houses, 350km inter city roads etc...:he is a technocrat. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is relatively young but an experience legislator, a bridge builder and a true Politician. Who will be a better candidate??, I do believe kwankwaso will develop nigeria more but tambuwal has a better acceptance ratio nd win probability |
“It is not a matter of planning to take over, that is what the rule of the House says, that the majority takes over the leadership of the House. We have no choice in the matter. You cannot be the majority and play the minority role,” Mr. Gbajabiamila said. “Tambuwal will remain Speaker in all circumstances. He was elected by the whole House. Most of the APC members are comfortable with him. I cannot speak for the deputy, but I will rather have a situation where he remains.” |

The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) yesterday in Rivers State arrested six youths bearing seven AK47 rifles around Ekporo Road on their way to Ogu. Among them was Daniel Ibito-Anga, who parades himself and is known in Ogu Bolo as Security Adviser/PA to Senator George Sekibo (Rivers East Senatorial zone) and Evans Bipi, the Rivers State Assemblyman who was recently stopped by a court from parading himself as the Speaker of the Assembly. Others arrested gave their names as Sunday Elisha, Uche Jenikachi, Ibinabo Lawson, and Okechukwu Okoro. In addition to the rifles, the men had 146 rounds of 7.62mm Special life ammunition and 10 life magazines among others. They were stopped on the basis of their suspicious movement as they headed for Ogu Bolo Local Government Area in an off white Land Rover jeep with registration number JJ441BZ. Both Senator Sekibo and Evans Bibi are from Ogu and have publicly confessed to being extremely close associates of Nigerian First Lady Patience Jonathan, who hails from nearby Okrika, and they all speak the same Okrika dialect. Evans Bipi was a domestic aide of Mrs. Jonathan before he was elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2011, Sekibo, who nurses gubernatorial ambitions, hopes to ride into Government House on the back of Mrs. Jonathan. They are all publicly known to be fighting the Rivers State governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. |

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) shut down Gombe International Airport yesterday ostensibly for repairs but the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) said it was a deliberate act to stop their leaders from landing at the airport. The airport was closed down when a delegation of APC leaders was airborne in a chartered plane from Abuja to inaugurate the party's interim leaders in Gombe yesterday. When the plane approached Gombe, the pilot was advised to divert because the tarmac was being mended. The pilot turned and made for Bauchi airport but it was after lengthy conversation back and forth that the aircraft was permitted to land in Bauchi. The delegation then proceeded to Gombe by road. A former Minister of State for Power and Steel, Malam Murtala Aliyu, who was on board the plane, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust last night. He said their aircraft was airborne when they were told they won't be allowed to land in Gombe because of some repair work. But he said they found out that this was done simply to sabotage the planned inauguration of the APC executive in the state. |

N2 Billion Budget For Security In The North-east? President Jonathan never fails to amaze Nigerians. The north-east, which currently is the most volatile zone, would get a paltry N2 billion for security and reconstruction in 2014. Boko Haram sponsors would be having a good laugh by now. Even they will vote more than N2 billion for their 2014 killing operations. Is President Jonathan serious? Does this not finally expose the president regarding his attitude towards security in certain parts of the country? What does the president then say to his numerous detractors who say that he is in fact enjoying and intends to electorally benefit from the crisis in the north-east? I have never seen a politician who makes the job of his detractors so easy as President Jonathan. That is precisely why the APC’s preferred presidential candidate for the PDP in 2015 remains President Jonathan. And, by the way, those who think that there will be no elections in parts of the north-east because there will be emergency in place (reference to Prof. Jega’s statement) should perish the idea because there will be elections in the whole of Nigeria in 2015. The APC- controlled House of Reps will never grant approval for any extension of emergency to reach the election period. |
I wish oga Jona could read the article and act appropriately, gej would have sailed through 2015 election |
We are 48 hours away from the year 2014. 2014 would be Jonathan’s last full year in power, so he has to make full use of it. That would be his last chance to construct a meaningful legacy for himself. As it stands today, he is in a very bad shape. The legacy he has built so far has been that of incompetence, corruption and impunity. But one year is surely enough to reverse this outlook. After all, the late Murtala Mohammed spent only six months in office but he made a clear statement on competence and the fight against corruption. The first thing the president must decide to do in 2014 is tackle corruption. President Jonathan must make up his mind about corruption. On New Year’s Day, he must make this resolution. And the place to start is for him to change his current attitude about corruption. Our president does not appear to know that corruption is an imp that stunts the growth of nations. Our president’s mien suggests that he encourages, protects and romances corruption, sometimes even with the life of his government. President Jonathan must change his disposition towards corruption. No nation has ever developed or even made any meaningful progress without first tackling corruption. All great leaders who have made a difference to their countries have said so. Second, the president must change his mindset about security of life in the country. The first duty of any government is the security and safety of the people and, in fact, our constitution states that the security and welfare of the people are the responsibility of government. The Nigerian state has technically failed, if one considers the level of insecurity that daily confronts Nigerians. The president only talks and complains about terrorism without doing much about it. I have never seen a nation’s president that sounds so helpless as Jonathan does. Yet, he wants to continue as president. Jonathan does not even comment on the armed robberies and kidnappings that have virtually taken over the land. Armed robbers now use grenades, yet the president doesn’t see an emergency. Are the robberies and kidnappings also the handiwork of those who have promised to make the country ungovernable for him? The thing the president must do in this matter is to first know that the nature of crime has changed globally, so the strategy and tactics of their resolution must change accordingly. That also means that the government must invest heavily in the training of security agents who must now be grounded in new methods. High- precision equipment are available to defeat these modern-day criminals, but, with the level of corruption we see in today’s government, Nigeria may not benefit from them. These equipment and training are available to any serious leader who is serious about keeping his people safe and secured. The kind of poignant stories one hears from those on the battlefield fighting terrorism must be tackled at once. Some of the commanders on the field occasionally use their salaries to service trucks because of corruption. For the first time, some soldiers now abandon their commanding officers and run away because they don’t feel adequately equipped. We are courting disaster as a nation, and, if this scourge of corruption is not decisively handled by the president, anything can happen. If his ministers use bulletproof vehicles, then, the president must personally ensure that those on the battlefields are at least properly kitted with modern weaponry to confront the nation’s enemies. The president must personally ensure that this is done because this is an absolutely important matter. Another thing the president must confront in 2014 is unemployment. About 80 per cent of Nigerian graduates is currently unemployed and a total of 52 per cent of Nigerian youths is without employment as of 2012. These figures must have worsened by now. Nobody will need to tell the president that this situation is unsustainable. There are several ways to meaningfully create jobs that will ultimately boost the economy, and I will name a few. In spite of the disgraceful security situation in the country, Nigeria currently has only about 370,000 policemen. This is scandalous for a country of 173 million people. For a start, Nigeria should not have fewer than a million policemen, considering its size. And I think the president should give an executive order for the employment of one million graduates from the current 80 per cent graduate unemployment and give them world-class training to face the challenges of a modern society. The second thing the president should do in creating employment is to compel the petroleum minister to produce the $10.8 billion that even Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala admits has been unaccounted for. This $10.8 billion is roughly N1.7 trillion. Let this whole amount be invested in the housing sector in all the zones of the federation. Nigeria currently has an estimated 17 million housing deficit. This N1.7 trillion will go a long, long way. Jonathan should resolve to construct one million housing units in 2014. This is one surefire way of tackling the current very embarrassing unemployment level in the country. And nobody should say it is not possible because it is. It has been estimated that building one million housing units countrywide would create approximately 30 million jobs because almost everybody from architects, quantity surveyors, estate agents, petty food sellers, horticulturists, decorator, labourers, block makers, iron rod sellers, engineers, furniture makers, insurance agents, cement sellers and many, many more would be engaged. And if the N1.7 trillion missing oil money is not immediately available because it has been stolen, while the president is trying to recover the money through the EFCC, ICPC, police and SSS, he could loan money at single-digit interest from the N3 trillion stuck in the pension fund. He could borrow, because the money would be repaid from the proceeds of the sales of these houses anyway. The current Jonathan government’s policy of a private sector-driven mass housing programme will fail because interest rates of over 20 per cent from banks will keep the houses out of the reach of ordinary people. Only millionaires will afford them. Another thing the president must do in 2014 is to finally make up his mind to tackle the oil theft in the country. For the first time in Nigeria, and this is happening under Jonathan, oil theft has been taken to an industrial scale with the quantity of oil now being stolen outstripping the amount left for the country. Jonathan should stop behaving as if he is helpless. If he is, then, he should resign as president. And if Jonathan is serious, he can, before the end of next year, increase our oil production to 3 million barrels per day. A more serious president would be able to achieve 4 million barrels daily. We must maximise our oil production levels as quickly as we can, because the world energy order is about to change forever. With the success of the hydraulic fracking technique pioneered by the United States and with about 20 African countries about to become major oil producers, oil will lose its princely value in the next 10 years, in any case. If Jonathan is able to face these and achieve even half of them, he would have helped himself greatly and his legacy would be different from the terrible one he is about to leave behind. But, again, from his body language, it would appear that I have just wasted my time and ink. |
The simple question is after over a decade of democracy nd 50 yrs of independence, is Nigeria leaving up to expectation, are we on the right track in order to fulfil our potential? If No, suggest a solution |

Fellow Nigerians, let me start by sending you my warmest compliments of this special season. It has been one hell of a year for our beloved country and most of us in general. The tempo of politics has nearly reached a crescendo as we meander our way towards the year 2014. Next year promises to be an interesting one already as those masquerades seeking political offices or simply waiting to renew their tenure must unmask eventually. There would be no hiding place for the goldfish by this time next year.———————————————– By Dele Momodu Via: Ynaija |

As we come to the end of another turbulent year, marked by growing insecurity, worsening poverty and the creeping dictatorship and intolerance in the country, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) wishes to express its solidarity with the Nigerian people and commend their patience, resilience and dogged resistance in the face of a federal government that has lost touch with the dreams and aspirations of citizens. We gladly observe that even as 2013 recedes into the annals of history as one of the worst years in Nigeria’s history, a few developments point to the fact that a new hope is emerging on the horizon, notably the merger of opposition parties and the growing commitment of progressives and patriotic political leaders to unite under the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the single-minded determination of rescuing Nigeria from a federal government that not only condones corruption, but has elevated graft into an art form. There is no doubt that the merger of opposition parties today represents a major source of hope for the nation and our people are full of expectations that our party, APC, its leadership, elected representatives and governments will take the right step and measures to move the country away from all the multitudes of crises, halt the current movement towards collapse, restore the credibility of institutions of governance at all levels and respect and recognize the value of the human person. This demands that all political leaders in the country must be ready to make sacrifices. We therefore wish to acknowledge and commend our party (APC) leadership for demonstrating high resolve to set aside all their personal positions and aspirations in order to provide the needed leadership to unite all Nigerian progressives. As Progressive Governors, we are proud of the achievements of our party and will continue to support our leaders towards rescuing our dear nation, Nigeria. Against the background of today's federal government that steers the affairs of the nation based on convenience rather than constitutionality, Nigerians have been reduced to helpless observers of a presidency that is only efficient in weakening its moral authority, making it difficult to relate with other levels and tiers of government in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended. The hard and incomprehensible reality is that the Presidency, federal government and ruling PDP have become reckless, dishonest and completely insensitive to minimum requirement of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians. Government, as far as the conduct of the federal government shows, is all about the political aspirations of functionaries of government, notably Mr. President. This is unfortunate and the consequence is the increasing wave of both intra-party and wider national political crises without any visible demonstration of capacity by the federal government and the ruling party to manage or resolve the crises. Given the severity and intensity of the crises facing our dear nation, it is clear that rescuing Nigeria will have to commence with a strong commitment to a national agenda of reconciliation in order to resolve grievances of citizens and bring forth a clear roadmap for nation building founded on respect for our diversities. Such a commitment should be founded on the principles of acknowledging deep-seated anger of citizens and recognizing that it is in the first place a product of injustices over years of bad governance. As a result, governments at all levels at different times have infringed on the rights and liberties of citizens. Citizens, have in turn, been abused and in many instances, violated. It is the view of the PGF that reconciliation, founded on the principles of forgiveness with governments demonstrating a strong commitment to break away from the past culture of infringements must form the foundation of a new Nigeria. Together with our party leadership, we wish to reaffirm our unflinching commitment to move Nigeria forward. The nation cannot continue to be run the way it has been since 1999; something must give. True, the resilience of the Nigerian people has been tested severally by the antics of a government that has continually defrauded the people at the ballot box, continues to play politics with ethnic and religious sentiments while proffering no solutions to tackle insecurity, poverty and unemployment, yet, it is not the people, but this government that must give way. After fourteen (14) years under democracy, our electoral system has continued to be a major source of national disappointment. The elections in Delta and Anambra have clearly rolled back the small progress that was recorded in Edo and Ondo states. With state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe and the declaration by INEC that it will not be able to conduct elections in those states, democratic rule in the country is under threat and all democrats must rise to the occasion and save our democracy. Our national economy has crashed to a level that is hardly explainable with reference to all rational economic theories. The common scorecard shows a nation that is efficient in mismanaging unmatched resources and wanton profligacy. Reversing this trend is not a mission that any group can accomplish alone. It requires the support of Nigerians. It is a difficult task, but we are confident that with your support, we shall seize the initiative and return Nigeria to a land where votes count, and where government will be accountable to the governed. As Progressive Governors, we hereby restate our commitment to make all our states models of good governance with records of rapid human development and progress founded on the principles of social democracy in line with provisions of our party constitution and manifesto. In 2014, we shall take all the necessary steps to roll out programmes that will facilitate development of synergy, experience sharing and collaboration by all progressive states. Once more, the Progressive Governors Forum felicitates with all Nigerians this festive season and reiterates its commitment to the advancement of democratic rights and freedoms while putting in place genuine programs to tackle insecurity, fight crime, and destroy all vestiges of corruption. This would be the basis of our programs for massive infrastructure project that would create jobs, stimulate economic activity, reduce inequality and diminish poverty. A Merry Christmas to all Nigerians and a prosperous New Year! |
