,
He wasn't begging merely pointing out a fact! Don't see anything wrong in that. I do feel he is unduly worried tho with the way he swept the Euro awards he should fancy his chances! And the bookmakers actually agree

So much emphasis being made on goals! What was won with those goals? How about assists? Or do these not count! Everyone knows Ribery was the most influential player in Europe last season! He destroyed Barca and orchestrated Dortmund's downfall in the biggest game of the season while Messi,Ibra and Ronaldo were home biting their nails

If goals was all that counted then Lampard and Gerrard should be far better than Xavi and Iniesta

Ribery will win that award easily as Ronaldo's barrage of goals are simply being scored at the wrong time
I was being sarcastic actually but notwithstanding his comments sounded more like a plea than pointing out facts. It sounded like 'Aren't you people tired of Messi and Ronaldo'? Vote for me na, if not for anything, for the fact that I'm French. . If he wins it, no qualms, at least at 30years of age, it's probably his only shot at it.

But as a football fan, you can't possibly tell me that ribery is better than messi and ronaldo.

Mcleo007: A very nice piece. Thought provoking as well. But it rests on the conundrums of many "buts", and wishful thinking on the part of most non Barca adherents.

Now, that Messi is a thorough breed of the famed La masia, and duly popularised by his rise to fame is not something most people are oblivious to. Messi is the flagship and symbol of the club's cadet academy. To put him up for sale is to shit on the fans. This would in turn invoke their wrath. And being a club run by a populist majority, such decision can only end in disaster. It's unthinkable to be honest.

In my pinion, the reason Messi is getting susceptible to injury is as a result of his body system being over worked by the previous regime. Haba! Body no be firewood. Messi was made to play in nearly 99% of the team's games across all competition over the season. Even the needless games like against second rate teams in the Copa, you still see him in the team list. That was unfair to him. Though I read in some quarters that, as part of his contract (given the many sponsors the club has), Messi must play every match provided he's deemed fit to perform.

Moreover, it's crystal clear his diet these days is questionable. The club has to see to that. What never happened during the days of Beunoventura now coming to the surface is not by chance, it easy to point out.

In all, I wish La Pulga a swift recovery and return to form. I trust the team to carry on well in his absence. #animoMessi
Don't mind that Real Madrid fan that hides under the guise of blogging to celebrate La pulga's injury. His diet might be in question but I don't think Messi and even Barca would revert from the diet that brought him much success. On the long run, winning is all that matters, so we didn't just buy Neymar for nothing.

In as much as i hate the contents, I found some of the opinions there intriguing and difficult to shallow. But they do look like incontrovertible facts, don't they?

Happy reading!

About this piece, good facts from the writer no doubt but not all of them. To me, he's just a critic looking for a subtle way in. Messi's getting susceptible to injury, yes cos he's human. If guardiola had stayed it would still have happened eventually. If y'all for once think that Messi's end is near then all I can do is laugh. For the record, he missed like 12 matches in total last season and we still won the league with 15 points, got to the semis of the UCL and copa.

Barca selling Messi? grin hilarious. That writer is a good critic I must say.

Lionel Messi - As many of you know, over the next few weeks I will be working full-time on the recovery of this new injury, for me it is a pity not to play with my team right now... Now the most important is to be recovered well for helping my teammates and for giving back all the support you've given to me in the best way I know how to do, playing football. Thank you for your messages!

philfearon: Nah! The Award is for the Year 2013 ,starting from 14th January!...
This Year alone,Messi has missed complete 3months of football compared to peepz like Ronaldo,Ribery and IbrahimMovic, but When you look at that their stats, you will be like: "ah ah,what the heck were this dudes doing while the oga at the top was injured?"
A genius said, "What will people say when Messi with all his goals, his team sits third in la liga,he couldnt win anything trophy in the year 2013,he couldnt qualify his country for the world cup straight away ?"...
Yeah but you must also know that 2013 was a part of last season too, and you echoed my thoughts too. He did exceptionally and scored the most goals when he was clearly not in full fitness, his closest competitor for me is the same who has always been: CR7 and he scored lesser goals and won no major trophy last season as well as not having automatically qualified his country for the world cup.

Form is temporary while class is permanent.

Since this one is for last season's. Performance, Messi's still the favourite. When cr7 won it, Messi was injured during the season proper, not the season after.

Johnpaul88: For me, i have put my mind away from a possible fifth Ballon d'oro for Messi. All that bothers me is that he comes back as scheduled and that he assists the team in those difficult & tight fixtures of january when the team will be playing every 3 days until UCL resumes in mid february. And that he doesn't suffer a recurrence any more.

For the Ballon d' oro, frankly speaking, it'll be refreshing to see another winner emerge this time around. It's becoming too predictable & may have lost some of its glamour if one person continues to win. Don't get me wrong, but Messi can still win a fifth in the future if he comes back stronger & i'll be very happy.

Other players may have also deserved to win and this Messi recurring injury problems should present a convinient time to reward them. Messi can thereafter reclaim his rightful place in the future.

Ibrahimovic, Penaldo & Ribery have all given a good account of themselves and one of them should win. My personal preference is Ibrahimovic. Penaldo did not win anything and Ribery is not that flashy, perhaps not even the best player in Bayern squad.
You're right you know, I get you. The only people who aren't bored with Messi's continuous Ballon D'or win are Barca and Argentina national team fans but at the same time you can't take it away from him. He played lesser games than all of his rivals last season but still scored the most goals. It's not his fault that he's that good.

Damn! I knew all the world tour and exhibition matches he played during the break will eventually take a toll on him. Going to Senegal, Asia and the likes just to satisfy people at the detriment of his health. Get well soon.

Wow! 8 weekshuh Well technically it's 7 sha as this week is for international friendlies. It's a good thing we have Neymar already, I believe he'll step up and the Sanchez, fabregas and pedro will take up the responsibilities. As much as this is a big blow, it's time for us to show that we can actually do without MESSI.

I'm still backing him for the Ballon D'or though.

Nice from the young man!

However, Puyol made me laugh all game . To be frank, he's a spent force. He can no longer be trusted against some mid table teams, let alone top teams. He was surrendering possession under little or no pressure at all. That 'll be severly punished by any decent teams.
Same here. It's a good thing real betis was our opponent and not sevilla or atleti. We for hear am.

cheesy Lol. Song conceeds too many free kicks with his weight, unlike busquests, he had a good game though no doubt. He was instrumental in the first goal with his pass to fabregas.

My man of the match: VALDES, for keeping us in the game with his world class saves at 0-0 when Betis' forwards were getting the better of bartra and montoya.

Get well soon MESSI, we need your goals

More than a club.

Thanks to Villarreal though for holding athletico madrid and giving us a one match loss advantage over them (not that we'll lose any league match this season; YES I see us going unbeaten the whole league season with tata's rotation policy)

Messi should be out for two weeks tops, a positive is that Argentina won't stress him as usual.

Tello was a minus today, it's a good thing we've wrapped up the victory by the time he came on, alves gave away a needless P.K. & song is too heavy. Haba!

ddippset: by easing his game I meam- maybe rest him for some home games against lower table teams, I mean home games not away! And also resting him for cup games like uefa and copa de after we've qualified. That would make him fresh and injury free so that instead of say 55 games a season he could play 40. With that he should still be our false number nine, no compromise for me.
Yeah I agree, but asides the fact that 50% of Barcelona fans buy match day tickets specifically to watch him play, he also loves and wants to play. His legs scratches him whenever he's on the bench, and the last time Tata substituted him, he was clearly vexed and he showed it.

dmcdad: God bless you jare. I was beginning to wonder when Ronaldo broke Messi's Champions league record for most goals in a season.
No mind uefa, it's all in the race for the Ballon D'or. Let him score 91goals in a year to begin with.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by barackohandso(m): 9:15am On Nov 07, 2013
ddippset: and what about all those many classicos he scored in and we won? Have u forgotten so soon? I say we ease his game for the next 3 months and when he gets 100 fit again he continues his false nine role. Barcelona has existed for so so long and no striker has given us 50 goals in la liga and 73 in all and no striker ever will. Not lewandowsky not anybody. His goals have made this the most successful barcelona of all time. He is just 26 and when he's fully fit again, we return to status quo ante. What needs to be changed is the play pattern not messi's position. He has 14 goals and we lead la ligA and uefa standings despite his injury. NB-neymar haas become a handful for opponents, he is more than enough plan B already. Lol.
Rightly so. I get your point, and everybody knows who Messi is, so his 50goal a season haul is not just a Barca/La liga record, it's a world record. No league has ever had a player score such an amount of goals in a season, he's Messi so it's not suprising. My point is "Change is permanent", so we can't expect him to keep scoring 73goals in a season, and he's on a mission to become the greatest player ever (to me he is already), so if by easing his game you mean consistently resting him, there's a particular Ronaldo that'll play catch up.
