Personal development involves to a large extent, conscious thinking and self-awareness. Sometimes we might be moving with a zeal to get ahead but without self-awareness we cannot tell if we are moving forward or backward, or even going round in circles.

I have this friend who in 2013 gave me a book "Why you act the way you do" by Tim LaHaye. I am grateful to him for that book till date as it served as a foundation for me. The book speaks about temperaments, so my friend had become so proficient in telling people through their behaviour, which is rather impressive and gained him praises from friends in the neighbourhood.

However, I got tired of playing it small and realised the need to go on to a larger scale to reach out to the world. The good thing is that vision served as a challenge to make me want to be better at all cost and when I realised that being in those places I used to only pulled me back, I had to stop going there. Yes, it pulled me back because being there only made me seem accomplished. Secondly, most folks there do not see the need for change and are happy in their comfort zones so I had no mission being there.

The problem my friend faces now is that being around people who do not see his vision or possess their own vision, he isn't motivated to do more than he is doing now. He could be a counsellor but he cannot unless he rises above ordinary thinkers to think extraordinarily. The mind is very delicate and so what you feed it consciously is what you produce subconsciously, hence the need to always feed it positive influences to produce positive thoughts. They say 'Show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are'. You cannot expect to think differently from the crowd you hang with. Even if you tried, your mind would take in some alien thoughts that would take more efforts to purge. Why do you think successful people like to be around themselves and far from poor people?

This isn't an easy journey but it's exciting and most rewarding than the ordinary lifestyle as it puts you in control of yourself and the things you do. The key to personal development is learning. I have lots of books that I might not even read. I access several trainings that I don't even complete and I intend to continue to acquire because learning is a necessity if I desire to achieve my dream of helping people. That's enough fun for me because there's a passion in helping people become who they desire to be.

In matters of life such as success achievements, career, love relationships, we don't choose exactly what we get. The laws of attraction does but with our permission and influence. You might fancy a particular job but you're presented with something else. You might be physically attracted to a man or woman but end up with a different kind. You do have the power though to decide what you desire and get just that, but you must know how.

If a child does not know what fire is, tell him that it will burn him if he touches it.
That is everyday common-sense.

Common sense is not common my brother. If it were, why all the aggression in the world? Why has the Motherland become prominent for wars and violent behaviours? Why would people consciously emit negative thoughts and emotions to the universe if they knew that they would receive what they give? Why has poverty become a part of our development?

We need to stop being part of the problem but the solution. That everyone else is mad doesn't mean you should be as well. The more sane people we have in this crazy world, the more impact we can make in changing the world.

Just like a musician would say "I killed the show", interestingly, I did a lot better in my speech delivery today as I was able to get the attention of my audience (fellow students) today.

Guys I am grateful, in particular, bare1 and you, the concept and ideas you gave worked just fine! Thanks.

I have just gotten a fellow student who also through my influence, wants to be delivering motivational speech in class. We have concluded that he should talk about GOAL.

But as for me, I will not be delivering speech until Monday, as usual kindly suggest a topic that would also be of great interest to the students, just like you suggested VISION.

As you give the topic, endeavour to give me hints and also write (in summary) about the topic. You can take your time to reply my post at a time you are probably less busy.

Thanks. May God in His infinite mercy increase you in knowledge and give you more wisdom to have great positive impact in the life of people.

Congratulations on another feat you have attained today. I'm impressed and glad that your influence has begun to rub off on your peers. I suggest you both work together henceforth to continue in your work. The good thing is that you would start to influence more people as they see the courage and ambition you both display together. It's easier for people to relate with you when they see the possibility of your starting something to reckon with.

You know one thing about this journey you embark on, it's one in which you need to explore on your own but alongside other people of like minds, hence the reason it's a personal/self-development. Truly life goes beyond academics but your teaching should reflect in your character. The strongest influence stems from what people see you do and not what you say, as you are what you do and not what you say you would do. What you need to do is to spend more time reading self-help books and learning to live a life worth emulating. Personally I stopped going to some places I used to and even cut off some friendships, limiting them to just 'hi-hi'. Knowledge is of no value if not applied. They say 'readers are leaders' but in truth not all readers are leaders but all leaders are readers, like Harry S. Truman said. The idea is to understand what you read and be able to identify with your own philosophy in accord with the philosophy of life.

I urge you to read my book where I tried to provide an insight to this lifestyle to give you the desire to seek more knowledge.

How did u know the other party was not pinched in the slightest way?

Do you condone biafrans and their incessant and irritable warmongering?

U'd prefer the biafrans to continue their never-ending discordant and irritable chorus to break up Nigeria along tribal lines" through violence

without someone calling them to order?

"Casting out hate with hate only produces a new regime of hate." - Martin Luther King

The only way you can call them to order is to take action to free them from that thought and not threaten them with the same war.

Are you in the other party's shoes to know whether it pinches or not?
The effrontery to grab his hat is enough loco standi to join the fray and state the truth.
It is free and she is entitled to it.
It is evident that you are not a passive observer but have actually picked up the gauntlet on behalf of biafra.

Do I need to be in the other party's shoes to know whether it pinches him or not? A person who spends so much time hurling negative words so freely that it doesn't seem like anything to him?

Even if it pinches him, it wouldn't be for long but the one who creates the thought and the words is more on the losing side for she creates it for herself. But even if she doesn't care about that, at least for the sake of unity and peace there's a need for us to be productive in building the Nation. Everyone is complaining yet nobody wants to do anything about it.

Evidently this goes against your assumption - reached probably cause you jumped in midway - that I'm in support of Biafra. I understand if you would struggle with a lunatic for grabbing your hat cause we all possess varying core values and thought patterns, but I can't relate with that.

When all reasoning failed to persuade the so-called biafrans and their incessant but irritable warmongering, it was a reasonable counter-argument to state the obvious to them, which was what she did.

On this matter I beg to differ from your view point.

It's a free world with rights to personal opinion. However from what I have learned, because people are doing it doesn't mean you should. You can't be calling a lunatic mad and yet run after him for grabbing your hat. Her counter-argument does more harm to her and not the slightest pinch to the other party. You can't swallow poison and expect your enemy to die.

To answer your question, I will assume that you are not new to this site. If this is so, then I assert that there is hardly any day that goes by without a number of topics or posts on Biafra or Biafrans.

Some of them threaten violence, thunder and lightening against Nigeria, which they call 'Zoo'. They want a violent break-up of Nigeria.

I think that lady's post explored the implications of the so-called biafran chest-beaters for war. She was clearly against war and scorned those who camed online only to irritate others with biafra warmongering as if Ibos are the only ethnic group in Nigeria.

Note I also abhor violence or war in whatever form.

That everyone is mad, do you join in the madness to calm others? Do you jump into a free-for-all to settle the dispute or seek to see reason with all parties involved to broker peace? Do you use petrol to try put out a fire?
Yes she is was against war but for it indirectly because you cannot keep hitting a ram with a stick to get it into the barn. Warning that Nigeria is ready for war against Biafra is not brokering peace. You cannot quell drums of war with more threats of war.

Actually, I am addressing fellow students, they are my audience, although as time goes on, I will extend it to other classes.
Thanks a lot, I have really picked some points in your post. (More blessing)

So tomorrow as you suggested, my topic will be VISION...please I need your hints to backup my own findings.

What are the areas I really need to dig into?
What can I really say that will really motivate them?etc

Thanks.

Well done Sir! You seem to be doing great in your speech as it seems you are more in control now.

About catching your audience's attention, I think you should be spontaneous. Focus on your subject and place yourself in the audience, then ask yourself those questions that need answers. Say vision for example, what are those rewards of having a vision? Many people desire success, so starting with some sort of punchline concerning what they want would arouse interest.

About motivating them, people get motivated by success stories. Learn about successful people - especially those with peculiar stories - and their march to success. Give them your own experiences too to challenge them. Motivation is to the mind, as food is to the stomach. It is required in daily doses to prompt action, so serve it to them everyday.
Romance / How You Can Keep Your Emotions In Check Through Meditation. by bare1(m): 5:54pm On Aug 04, 2015
Emotions are a vital part of our lives because it stems from one of the two most vital organs of the body and as such has a great influence in our lives. We can all relate with the manner in which positive emotions like love, happiness and faith can elevate and propel us to success. And on the other hand negative emotions like anger, hate, worry and anxiety bring upon us ill health, bad luck and failure.

Therefore learning to control and direct our emotions to positivity is crucial to our growth and development. Self-development can never be successful without being able to produce positive emotions which are relevant to success. The energy we produce and send out to the universe are our emotions. And so if you choose to emit negative energy, guess what you are going to get back? Yes, negative responses. Then you start to wonder why things do not go right. That is the moment you see people going from church to mosque looking for a spiritual solution.

Meditation is one of the ways with which you can control your emotions. It only takes you at least 5 minutes - people who adopt it as a way of life can take up to 30 minutes or more to achieve more - to drown any negative emotions you feel starting to build up within you. Within those 5 minutes you need to calm and empty your mind of all thoughts. You can take full advantage of these 5 minutes by focusing on positive emotions. You can also drift into a world of your own where everything is as you want it to be in your life. Trust me when those 5 minutes are over, you would feel much better and relaxed. For best results, make out time to do this everyday and watch how your life transforms into absolute awesomeness.

It was a wonderful and masterful post, which only a minority of SE will disagree with.
Incidentally you failed to say what was ludicrous about it!

So tell me does it have a positive or negative effect when everyone is speaking of hate and inciting war? If she must preach, why not preach peace. A war in Nigeria is a loss to everyone and more so dividing Nigeria does not benefit the nation as a whole. We all need to be more productive to foster a greater Nigerian entity.

@Menzo4u Be careful who you sample your idea with, as many people are guilty of not moving forward themselves. If you speak to a person comfortable with being stagnant, then what advise can they offer you about growth. If you speak to someone who doesn't find the desire to be better, they most likely would not want you to be better. So many influences on your mind eventually leads to procrastination or poor decision making.
