I think we can find fulfilment in just about any endeavour our heart so pleases.

I am sure the reason Preye and I decided to give active political discussions a break has to do with the fact that because of the emotional and sentimental attachments, one seems unlikely to apply the THINK (is it thoughtful, helpful, inspiring, necessary, kind) function before commenting.

Take the church for example...
....I think of pastors and I have very bias opinion.

I'm not a fan of institutional Christianity either, and I have my reasons.
Now, does that mean I should discourage those who genuinely seek to tow that path?

No.

It's about them doing what makes them happy, pursuing their interests, it might not be the endgame for them, but it surely is a means to an end.

So, are you implying that there aren't politicians cum leaders out there who wish to truly serve?

If there aren't, are you saying that it is bad for genuine people to try to come in and change the status quo?

I'm sure you're aware that there are different spheres of influence?
My point is that you do not throw the baby out with the bath water.

When we meet people who undertake journies that are different from ours, we can help by not coming off as judging/condemning/belittling their chosen path.

This is not a question about discouraging or condemning anyone's chosen path. As a matter of fact I am encouraging you to be a leader not a politician. I never said you should not involve in politics, after all the need to make Nation builders is to make Nigeria great through governance and various other media. When we say politician, what comes to mind? Definitely not all public servants are politicians. Everybody has got what they find fulfillment in, what matters most is our core values - because apparently that is what makes us who we are and is what propels our actions, on which we all shall be judged eventually.

Lol

You might wanna check out the definition of politics and leadership...
They bother on influence.
Politics is everywhere.

I can understand if you are beseeching that I desist from practising Nairaland's brand of politics.

True that they both bother on influence but being a leader you more easily influence people when your purpose is truly to serve. Politicians have already made bad names for themselves so in the first place you can be categorised with the bunch. There are good and bad leaders and while a bad leader's method is to control, a good leader guides and directs and you cannot guide people if you are not willing to humble yourself down to the paths you are guiding them through. Yes politics is everywhere but it's how you influence that speaks of who you are. You can either play dirty, trying to buy support like politicians do, or you can genuinely serve the people and earn their trust.

Truth is,I'm gradually reviewing my time on there, lately, what I do is more of reading.

I find that it is very easy to lose touch of your reality and essence once you become really embroiled.
I quite agree that it's energy sapping, but hey, an adventure is what it is ey?

We all seek an adventure every now and then but sometimes getting into the wrong one usually has an effect on us that could be deteriorating. You are going to get some pretty cool insights from the observations in my book and putting your mind to it, you can expand on it. I added you to my circles on google if you do not mind?

lol...my honest advice, do leave politics to politicians and wannabes. Our speed in life is determined by what's chasing us, i.e your priority in life determines what you take up as interests. While some seek to be successful, not everyone actually does. I am sure you can, however I wonder myself if I can with the new book I am writing and all the books lined up my shelf that I have to read. I just uploaded the book through datafilehost.
You can download here http://www.datafilehost.com/d/a7359fb5

I had actually thought of opening a thread, more ike a book club for those who might be interested in journalling stuff they read from the book, but quashed the idea.
My friend who introduced the book to me says it's more than a book.

Well that's a really good idea. I sure wouldn't mind sharing insights with you. As a matter of fact, it's quite necessary to have a book club for people to share books and insights from what they read. We are proposing that a section be created, dedicated to all things personal development, self-growth and motivation and your idea would make a good topic for it. Thanks for the link, I have downloaded it.

Your ramble did not address the points.
Both the North and the South West are for one indivisible Nigeria.
They are prepared to go to war for Nigeria to remain one.
98% of South South are against Biafra and do not support it.

What you want is Igbo country made up of 5 landlocked states surrounded entirely by Nigeria.
You don't stand snowball's chance in Hell.

Neither Ghana, South Africa, Kenya etc, nor Russia, Canada, UK etc are homogeneous.
They have dominant ethnic groups without the usual Ibo discordant chorus to break up Nigeria along tribal lines.
Nigeria has already fought a bloody war to remain one and is willing to do so again.

In your best interest and that of your tribe, forget this pipe-dream of Ibo own country!
Nigeria is here to stay and will be after you.

Madam you need to get more productive and stop wasting your time and potentials with such ludicrous posts. It's not compulsory to comment on every thread you come across online.
Travel / Re: 24 Things I Learnt While In Nigeria by bare1(m): 12:01am On Aug 03, 2015
UrennaNkoli:
Racism
Nigerians are naturally racist. Yes I said so. I was at Ikoyi some few weeks back and a chinese man stopped by the road side to buy corn. The corn seller was like ''chinko wetin you wan buy''. Similarly, I was at maitama also and I boarded a taxi with an asian man. The Nigerian sitting next to him was like ''ching chong cho''. Looking confused, the asian guy replied him in english what he meant and the Nigerian said ''I just wan tell you sey make you shift for me''.

Electricity
If not that things are a bit getting better in Buharis' administration, Nigeria is one of those few countries in the world where you can get electricity for just five minuites and you'll be satisfied that at least ''NEPA'' brought light today.

Education
One thing I like Nigeria for is that they value education a lot. They even go ahead to say education is the best legacy grin. But remember, 70% of the most successful people in the world today don't even have a degree to their name.

¬UrennaNkoli

Inferiority complex
If you want to be treated like a God, change your skin color to white and travel all the way to Nigeria. They'll treat you like royalty there.

Nollywood
The Nigerian film industry is highly prolific. They produce more than 200 movies a week. Thats even more than hollywood.

Football
Nigerians love football alot. They watch the game and they play the game. Little wonder I saw an owner of a viewing center buying a SUV. Well at least when I asked him how he managed to do so, he told me it was from his hard earned money. As per playing the game, you don't need a field or a goal post to play football in Nigeria. All you need is the round leather ball, a surface you can run on so far its not water and anything can make up for the goal post be it slippers, tyres or rocks. Not to mention the no rules policy, don't even try playing the ball just an inch above ground level, its not gonna count. Never try to annoy the owner of the ball coz its game over and everybody will go back to their respective homes.

Injustice
In Nigeria, once you are rich and you have a high status in the society, you can get away with anything yes and I said anything, even murder.

Religion
Nigeria to me is the most religious nation in the world after Jamaica

Giving birth
I've always wondered why 'naming ceremony' is always done 7 days after birth. Does it mean the child is nameless within those 7 days?

Discipline
Nigerian parents are known to have a high level of discipline which they try to embed on their children. I was at a friends house one day and this man threatened to 'stone' his son in the eye with the 'eba' he was eating. Not to mention mothers beating their kids with this
this and that stick they use in making 'amala'

Universities
Despite the country having a very poor academic system, I still wonder why their lecturers are being treated like a semi God. I was at one of their universities one day and a lecturer told a guy far older than him to carry his bags for him into his car. Their students fear these set of people alot and I keep wondering why.

Jealousy
Should I call it jealousy or what but if you are a young Nigerian and you became suddenly rich, they tag you as a 'yahoo boy'. If you are much older and you are rich they say you did 'blood money'.

NYSC
There is a scheme they call NYSC. Someone once boasted to me that he was very excited going to the camp because he was sure he was going to have s*ex for the first time. They see this as an avenue to explore and enjoy.

Beautiful People
Just like the lyrics of that chris brown's song said, everywhere I've been to in Nigeria, I saw beautiful people. they have a very vibrant youth life too.

Intelligence
Nigerians are very intelligent and smart too. They'll always find a way to cheat you no matter how you try to resist. Just be smart

Piracy
Nigerians unarguably have the highest piracy rates in the world. I watched a world cup final between germany and argentina some months ago and when I woke up the following morning, I saw the CDs' of that match being sold around in shops. How they managed to do still baffles me till date.

Humor
No doubt, Nigerians are the funniest set of people in the world. Their 'pidgen' language just puts the icing on the cake

Human Rights
Despite the positives, the country has a very poor human right recordf mainly from their military. Some military escort stopped me on the highway oneday and asked me why I refused to park my car and 'clear the road' while they were approached. He even threatened to spray my vehicle with bullets if i dare argue with him. Looking at his uniform, this dude was just a private in the military if not a recruit.

Alcohol
Nigeria has one of the highest alcohol consumption rates in the world and the numerous beer palours aren't helping matters at all.

Prostitution
Having s*ex cools the mind of an average Nigerian. at least that was what a friend once told me. Brothels allow men to have sex for as low as 1000 naira. Where I lived, it was as low as 500 naira. The place was called seven up. wonder whether it still exists till date.

Chest beating
One of the great Fela's song once said ' shakara oloje' which is very true. Its only in Nigeria where one low lifer threatens to lock you up in prison claiming you don't know who he is. An incident happened one day, someone locked up my goods in his one room face me i face you apartment because I was owing him some amount of money and told me to pay him back his money before he could release my goods. I broke his padlock to retrieve my goods and on top of that still claimed to get me arrested for breaking into his house to retrieve my own property. As a typical nigerian, I told this fellow I will deal with him in my own way because my goods was far more than the money he claimed I owe him. In Nigeria, everybody is a brother or sister to a military officer, everybody is a friend to the IGP, everybody has the power to lock you up in prison.

Guys and churches
I noticed guys mainly attend churches because of that chick they are eyeing. You can dispute me on this.

The shuffering and shmiling mentality
Nigerians can be quite funny. In a nut shell, they suffer and still smile at the same time. No doubt to the fact that they are already used to it.

Time
Nigerians are never ever true to time. an occassion is set for 9 am prompt, a typical Nigerian will arrive 11:45 am. Its in Nigeria where you leave for work 3 hours earlier than schedule and leave for home 3 hours later than schedule just to avoid 'go slow'.

In all, I'm still ever proud to be a Nigerian despite the negatives. If you ask many people out there whether they'll still like to be a Nigerian if there happens to be life after death, they'll say yes because this country is simply amazing.

UrennaNkoli

Even thought I am impressed to read this, which shows that some Nigerians still think right, I am still disappointed that Nigeria can still be categorised as this despite all the potential we possess. Well it still sounds as a wake up call and a motivation to me to be better.

This is indeed a great thread, I must confess. Please I am about to embark on the same "journey" in school as an ND1 student (fresher).

We resumed some months ago, and I also want to start giving career talks in the class, starting from tomorrow, but I am crippled by the fear of failure and what people (fellow students) would say.

Please advice me on this. Thanks.

I see a true leader in you like everyone else on this thread, for as long as you seek to give career talks in class, you do possess a desire to support others to become the best they can be and that is a big enough goal to propel you to success. I really like my boss @Dearpreye's post, as it really does deal with this issue appropriately when he said 'Focus on the goal not the difficulty'.

In addition to that, I say you should never fear failure, for every success stems from failure. Failure is the ingredient that makes us better in our goals. Failure is not the end of the line, but just an aid to give a much better comeback. Thomas Edison once said, "I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that won't work". That is to say, never see a failure to accomplish something as a failure of that goal, but see it as a motivation that with a little tweaking you are gonna get it right. So failure is out of the equation with such mentality and so therefore what people would say is irrelevant, for honestly many of those people would wish they have the courage you have to stand there and speak to them.
From experience I know that many people possess that stage fright - that reminds me of a current threat to android devices by the same name 'stagefright' that has been pronounced to be one of the worst at the moment - and find it a big issue to address a group of people.

Let me give you some practical methods to conquer that problem. As soon as you can get this, I want you to sit down by yourself and ask yourself if the risk of talking to the class is more than the rewards of the message and aid you offer the class through your speech. Obviously the reward is much more than the risk - even though I would like for you to determine this on your own, for the sake of time before the event I decide to help you see the more beneficial - so thinking about the rewards alone, your drive to help your class would give you a joy and satisfaction to help you to go all out. Please do make sure that your core values is to help your class, for that is what matters the most.

You know reading doesn't mean you should just pick up any storybook or novel and start to read. Readers are leaders means you should read leadership books, self-help and self-development books. Books that support your growth mentally when you apply knowledge acquired from them. The Bible says in Romans, chapter 12, verse 2 that we should not conform to the patterns of the world, but to transform ourselves through a renewal of the mind so we can know God's will for us. So we are meant to seek applied knowledge to change our mindset to produce positive, productive thoughts.

When a guy starve himself to make Sure she eats n cloth fine, is He not dying for her?
When he buys her a bottle of malt n manages pure water is it not death? When he uses his school fees to pay hers, n his feeding money to make her hair , is it not death? When he stands up to cultists to protect her, What other form of death is more daring?
So u see, a loving guy dies for his woman daily! cheesy

3) he needs not say it, But he does If he is not tied to the Momma's aprom strings. Maximum, he spends 12 years with momma, But spends his remaining life with her....

4) Oh u didnt just say that!
Ladies love it when they are told these kinda stories it gives them assurance that he ain't gono go back to d said ex! N she wud also watch her ways not to roll on those lanes.
But I'm not d type to go dwelling on d past

All reasons are flawed op, next time pull d wool outa ya rule b4 u roll

Ladies expert. A real man doesn't say awful things about their ex - someone they claim to have loved - to their present. A sensible lady wouldn't wanna get into anything romantic with you. Who knows what you would say about her.

If you choose to die without getting freedom for your people and others, when u ought to lend a voice,ur case I can't begin to fathom.

You are foolish for using treason, are u insane?
When has secession become treason, are u that cowardly hopeless?
Look at who is talking, u can choose to die a coward, monkey, when things set in motion, I pray u bring ur ugly head and ignorant self out, becus people like u will be handled first before anything.
Getaway from me.

To you freedom is derived from violence, negativity and hate?
No it is not my brother. Martin Luther King said, "Casting out hate with hate only reproduces a new regime of hate."
Hatred is never ended by hatred, but by love. The worst form of slavery is mental slavery, and only from it do we need freedom, for when we are free can we begin to understand life and what it's all about.

I used to be a supporter of secession myself until I started to see that the problem does not lie within the territory, but with the people who form the territory, for a nation it's not defined by her borders, but by her citizens.

The same mentality we possess as Nigerians is the same mentality we would possess even if we seceded into a hundred parts. So why cut off the head to treat a headache. As a matter of fact, we are stronger as a Nigerian entity. Take advance countries for example, why did Germany reunite rather than stand as East and West Germany? Africa as a whole needs to stand as one continent against the covert attacks of the Western world.

Politics aside, every individual deserves freedom from the influence of society. We do not need to conform to the reasoning of the world like the Bible tells us, but to search with open minds for prosperity and progress, devoid of violence and bloodshed, for we are created for greatness. Within the mind lies power untapped with which we can accomplish greater things. It would be a folly to follow other people's mindset without thoroughly scrutinizing them to determine right from wrong. There are good and there are bad leaders. Good leaders would not put their followers in harm's way but would readily play the part of a sacrificial lamb for the cause they so believe in, whereas bad leaders manipulate and care nothing of their people for their own selfish reasons.

According to your initial comment about getting freedom for my people, I am compelled to let you know that I have established a movement, 'Empowered For Freedom' which seeks to empower, encourage and support people to be free from every form of captivity, and in the process contribute to making nation builders to take our nation to greater heights. That is the solution to our problem in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. My people are not one particular ethnic group but any person of the entire human race, especially those who serve the great purpose they were created for, glorifying the Lord for His marvelous creation in themselves.

The real cowards are those who rather than take a stand and fight for equal rights and inclusion in this blessed nation, resort to secession - through extreme measures as war - and running away from a greater purpose.

I use this opportunity to commend the masterminds of NL on a job well done and the assistance they render the people through their ingenuity.

I believe I speak for the lovely people, including myself on this thread when I say that the subject of personal development is a crucial one that needs to be treated as such for our benefit and that of the unemployed, employed and self-employed, as well as students.

Because relationship building is relevant to all aspects of life - whether in business or in pleasure - and since relationship building begins with self-awareness and self-development, you cannot overemphasise the importance of personal development in our lives and the Nigerian society at large.

Since personal development is a vast subject that spreads all around life itself with as much topics as the issues of life, and as such not only encompassing other sections here, but also crucial to them and the forum in it's entirety - being a medium of social networking and relationship building, we humbly ask for the creation of a section of its own, totally dedicated to all things personal development, self-growth and motivation.

We appreciate your anticipated cooperation and support as we seek to bring aid and motivation to many as you have always done.

Notice that women who are independent and add value to their men barely have relationship issues. Men can sense such women from a mile away these days.
