Where did it say 100% or 120% Efficiency.

Have you guys thought about companies labelling panels with greater than or equal power to the nameplate rated power. A 300W panel could be labelled 270W

For example, in the picture attached (Solarworld 270w)
Multipling the max voltage and max current give approx 272.23
Yeah, I noticed it too, but I see the manufacturer simply rounded down to the nearest whole number.
That's a reduction of 0.8%!
So labeling a 300w panel 270w will be an 11.1% reduction!!
What's the relationship between 0.8% and 11.1%??

I am making this submission in order to stimulate ideological discussion and to dismiss hear says and half truths.

... is an ever increasing factor called Temperature coefficient.

Most of the extra insolation received in Lagos (5000W/m2, see attached Document) in the day is lost due to environmental conditions rather than bad installation as it is claimed. An average of 50% of same insolation is covered by the clouds in the sky.
Very interesting submission...
I especially like the insolation graph. I need the one for Cross River state. grin
The bolded above is your opinion, as there're no empirical data to substantiate them.
A proper installation can generate 30% more power in the same Lagos example you used, all other conditions assumed constant(including panels from the same manufacturer).
Temperature sensitivity of both the Suntech and Solarworld panels for the SAME power ranges are within the industry average.
Panel manufacturers use different material qualities for their different brands. Compare the datasheet for the 250w range of panels of different manufacturers.
I do agree with you that with TOP brand manufacturers, for the SAME rated panels ranges, it all boils down to OPTIMAL installation and irradiance for your area.

Yes, we are above the STC conditions, but it works in our favour with optimal installation, including Solar Tracking if you can afford it.

Solar setup is not always an exact science, one needs to sometimes sit down and do the maths. If 2KW of "alaba" panels gives me 1KW peak performance but it costs N100,000, does it not make sense to buy that compared to more expensive panels that gives me 1kw/1kw but cost N150,000? Rather than talking about panel this, panel that, we should talk about the eventual cost per kWh generated. And I'm with bodejohn, unless panels are deliberately underrated, achieving 100% efficiency is NOT POSSIBLE. That is the law of physics. When you convert energy, you MUST LOSE some. If you are seeing 120%, it is either your metres/readings are faulty or the panels have higher ratings than the labels on them. And no one should equate loquaciousness to knowledge. Indeed, most people who claim expertise here appear to have poor theoretical grounding.
Solar panels come in different categories, from premium to economy brands. That's why you can have panels from different manufactures with the SAME rated power perform differently under the SAME conditions. This information you can easily find on the datasheet of every solar panel.
Every panel reacts differently to ambient temperature and solar irradiance.
I had to look at the datasheet of my spare "kpako" panel, and found that its power rating is based on Lab conditions (STC) of 25 deg C and 1000w/sqr meter irradiance.
I am sure you will agree that in field use, each panel deviates from its STC I-V curve characteristics...
Ambient/cell temperatures usually escort below 25 deg C, and i'm sure in Nigeria we have peak solar irradiance in excess of 1000w/sqr meter.
Can this scenario cause a transient surge in field performance better than Lab conditions??
Don't be too quick to condemn what you've not exhaustively researched.

for the past two weeks i have not been able to fully charge my battery. the reason is because nepa gives us light 40mins in in 6hrs and my 390w solar can't charge my 400ah battery during usage. any suggestion?

Doubling my battery bank should do the trick!
I'll start from there...
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 4:16pm On Dec 10, 2014
bodejohn:
Obviously, your battery bank is too small for your 2.1kW solar panel array considering the fact that you also dont go below 60% DOD.

If you can double your battery bank, you will see a significant increase in your power generation.

I usually do not advise mixing old and new batteries especially when the old batteries are more than six months and of different model or manufacturer.
This's precisely my gut feeling.
I'm also convinced my array is not optimally installed.

As rightly mentioned above, overall harvest is also a function of what is being demanded. Even if you have the best panel money can buy and your energy usage is low, your yield won't shoot beyond what you have consumed.
I'm seriously suspecting my solar panels installation. I have a deep freezer, fridge, water dispenser, and electronics hooked on all day. Occasionally, the microwave oven, washing machine etc...
The best harvest in the last 180days was 6+kWh. It hovers between 4 and 6kwh daily.

If there's no utility support for about 3 days, the inverter will hit Vcutoff at 60%dod.
So I mitigate this by rationing from day 2, as the harvest is not enough to meet demand.

Richmond maybe right about my installation. From the testimonies I've read so far, my harvest is seriously below par!

Note, the highest instantaneous power recorded was 1700+Watts. From November 1st to date, it has not exceeded 1400watts.
I'm in Calabar, it still rains here, so my panels are clean.

What's the way forward?

Bursting the chart with the first ever >10kWhr a day harvest
Happy days are back...
Highest I've recorded in a day was 6.1kwh.
My array is 2.1kw.
These days, na 5kwh+...
I wanna upgrade my array to 3kw, and battery bank to 400+ Ah! grin

FamilyRe: How To Tolerate Cheating Husband. by Barezzi(m): 5:25pm On Nov 18, 2014
lacord5:
Darling your husband seems to have extra cash in his pocket all the time, money make men cheat! They have enough to hang out, pay for hotels, take care of their new babes etc. Now he is able to do all that cos you have a good job and probably shoulder half of your family responsibilities, believe me if he were broke (I don't mean unemployed oh) and thinking of saving up money for children's school fees and rent and insurance, he won't have money left for extravagances.
Now solution... Change your kids schools, take them to a better and more expensive school, tell him their old school is now crap and it's a good investment to their future, be all nice and sweet while talking about this grin. Then, where do you live? A rented house? You need to get a land and start building, tell him how real estate is the new rave and a good investment too, look for a land and get him see the need to have his own house, by the time he starts building every kobo will go into it, be supportive too, show interest and always hang by him. If you already have a house, build more for rent and as an investment.
Again it may be hard but show him love, forgive him in your heart, be an active member in your church and get him to become one too, if you don't have a nanny please get one, hang out with him and those his friends and slowly get him to hang with you, be a buddy. Don't report him anymore to anyone, don't claim to be too tired to go to parties and clubs please go with him, listen to gospel teachings it will ease your pain.
DO NOT CHEAT BACK! It is your body, you won't like to desecrate yourself just cos he is doing so, you will feel worse. And it won't solve anything at all.
Stop cutting cost, get those things your family lack, don't wait anymore, get him to spend his money, start projects and don't stop... And moreover pray for him to change, don't underestimate the power of prayer and money grin
Best advice so far!!!
