The system is running ESS Assistant with 50 watt grid import allowed, no export.

I've got 3 DBs;
Main DB powered by the grid only
Base DB on AC1 output (Essential loads)
Aux DB on AC2 output (also controlled by battery soc)

System is running smoothly, tweaking still ongoing

Before the second coming, I shall definitely switch to lithiums.

I'm not sure you can do this, and it's not a good parameter to use for control.
You can produce instantaneous power of 1.5Kw, but only 200w reach the batteries.

Consider using the battery Voltage or SOC for your control system.

Hehehehe... I had the Outback Flexmax 60 several moons ago. The unit worked for some months, then one day it refused to wake up.
I checked, double checked, triple checked!
Blazing sun, yet the unit refused to wake up. I went online, no luck.
In frustration, i took a hammer to put it out of it's misery...

Long story short, i bought it's Chinese clone. Fangpusun 60A.
That one was reading 62A max current instead of clamping at 60A

I got rid of it and purchased the Midnite Classic, now Victron SmartSolar

I'm having problems laying hands on manuals for LG inverter ACs (I need to know what the power consumption for a 1.5HP split unit).

What's more, I don't understand the dual-inverter technology rant. They seem like regular split unit ACs with direct DC driven compressors. Or could I be mistaken?

I have a friend planning on installing some units. What I want is something I can vary the energy consumption depending on whether he's using grid power or backup power.

If you use invert AC ( daikin and LG sell such models in Nigeria) you can easily run ac on normal 3.5 KVA inverter with 10 KWH battery bank. I run two such AC's on my 2 x 200 Ah x 4 battery bank with 2 KWP panels on 5 KVA inverter without ever reaching 50 % DOD .\The AC's have a power saver mode wihc take as low as as 300 watt in the night

In addition to what Niyi has said, add a Time delay switch to delay load transfer to the generator. You don't want the contactor and by extension the loads to chatter during manual Gen startup.

I'm already playing with an idea in my head for the other relay. Whereby my manual start generator excites a second relay that transfers the load to the gen from grid. when the gen is put off it returns to mains. That way i dont have to always use a knife switch to switch between grid and generator manually.

You remind me of the contraptions i've rigged up at home. I tried to duplicate the dual Ac source and dual ac output of a typical Victron Quattro...
3k contactor? I must have been scammed. I use an 80A 2NC 2NO contactor, and it cost a bit more than 3k sha.

So I was basically using the inverter at the lowest charge setting since the primary goal was to bypass battery and power house loads directly from mains - but once the inverter charging function spoilt by itself, I happily got a second contactor to simulate the inverter's internal transfer case with the bonus that my setup was now more efficient with the charging disabled. So with 3k for the contactor and 15minutes spent rewiring I was setup and good to go.

Abeg is it really necessary to add a circuit breaker between a charge controller and the battery?
Charge controllers are designed to throttle the current at it's maximum rating. What's really
the function of that CB?

Braaad, Axpert inverters have a terrible charging algorithm with their inbuilt SCC and maybe killing your batteries.
If i remember correctly, mine has an Absorb time of around 10 minutes then it switches to "Float".
I had to get standalone SCCs and moved all my panels to them.

Maybe a firmware update will fix it, but i no get that kind time.
I suggest you look into the effectiveness of your unit's inbuilt solar charger.
