Assuming C10 and no losses, A 200Ah 12V battery has 2400Wh nominal capacity. Useable capacity is 1200Wh.
You need solar panels to replace the useable capacity in the available sunlight hours.
Assuming 4 sun hours in Nigeria, 1200Wh/4h= 300W panel(s).
300W/12V = 25A. Some folks advice to not load your cc above 80%, approx 30A cc.

Any 30A PWM/MPPT CC should do the trick. It's max Voc will define how you configure the 300W array.
Whether it's 2# 150w, 3# 100w, or 1# 300w panel(s).

Even though you got a 1kva inverter, keep your loads below 240w.
Using the same inverter, for each 200Ah battery add a 300w panel and increase your max loads by 240w.

MrDojo:
Hello guys.

My mum recently got a 1kva system and a 200AH battery. She wants to buy panels later this month, but she does not know if she should buy two 150w panels or just buy one 300w panel. By the way, what kind of solar charge controller will be needed for such a system ( 1kva & 2kva), and how much will it cost.

P.s. can one 300w panel charge two 200ah batteries?

Thanks for answering grin grin

How much does a 150w panel cost and a 300w panel?

No complaints from me monsignor. So far so good.

And it's good so far, heard some affects the batteries.
Thanks

Hello Ifenadi,
How did it go with this?
How did you handle the neutrals?
ifenadi:
...I intend to use the same distribution box for that as my DB is three phase. I will remove a jumper wires that was used to connect all the phases together and use two phases for inverter supply and one for NEPA supply. Getting a new DB will make wiring a little cumbersome for me

Since September last year. Does it's job quietly.
I'll send it to my parents, as i'll be upgrading my current setup soon and won't need it again.

Chris,
I bought this one from Konga for N27k. No issues so far.

100A Automatic Changeover With Generator Start Function
chris81964:
Good Morning Gurus. Happy new year to all of you and I wish you all a very successful 2019. I am looking for a recommendation on automatic changeovers. Who uses an automatic changeover and which brand or manufacturer do you recommend.
Thank you in advance

This looks promising. How much is the landing price for each?

We are about to take the plunge by buying the BattleBorn 24v 50ah LifePo4 batteries direct from the U.S.A, wish me luck guys angry

They are claiming 3000-5000 cycles at 80% DOD and 100A max discharge current, sounds too good to be true, but I guess we'll see.

Will update the house
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m):
Special thanks to Zeestone for an exceptional job.

BEFORE:
* 16 325w Solarworld panels in 2S8P configuration (5200Wp)
* 4 sets of Prosolar direct roof mounts
* Very steep roof

AFTER:
* Changed the panel config from 2S8P to 3S5P (4875Wp)
* Installed adjustable front and back legs to keep the panels horizontal

After reconfiguration, i now see peak power of over 4.4kw.
Pics coming soon...

Talking about energy efficiency, the standard Ceiling Fans have a rating of 60-70w.
If only i can get a 10w ceiling fan grin
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 7:17pm On Aug 23, 2018
Words on marble! Lemme quote it for posterity. grin

I always advocate:
1. Size Solar Panels for daily consumption+system losses weather (24hrs)
2. Size batteries for night time consumption only (5pm to 7am) This should represent about 30% of battery bank capacity.
From you submission below, i have reviewed (2) above.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
So the proper size for solar panels is the size that after allowing for losses will run your average day time loads AND fully recharge your previous day's battery depletion AND bring your battery into at least one hour or more of float on a daily basis. The proper size for a battery bank is one where your average consumption for one day takes no more than 30% to 40% out of your battery.

For panels, one must upsize whatever wattage derived from the above by a factor of 20% to 50% or even more to cater for bad weather and performance degradation. For batteries it is a delicate balancing act between maximum longevity/cycle life and the economics of battery replacement.

@ efuro,
I observed the same thing when i was using a 60A Fangpusun.
I have it secured in my box of critical spares...I may consider selling it soon.

If the instantaneous loads will never exceed 1.5kw at ANY point in time, why use a 10kva 96v inverter?

Other than the deep crater in your wallet, the battery bank will hardly be cycled. With the inverter operating at max 2% loading,
the batteries will live forever.

kadorzy:
What is the implication of an oversized inverter on a battery bank?
For example; having a 10kva 96v for a maximum cumulative load not more than 1.5kw at any point in time.
Thanks y'all.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 11:38am On Aug 13, 2018
Saipro, You got me thinking...
When I started this solar journey several moons ago, the goal was to power my WHOLE house via solar.
Huge battery bank, several stacked inverters and a massive pv array to cater to present and future power needs.

My daily Essential loads consumption is also about 8kwh. It's the non-essential loads that rack up the numbers.
So much money spent to cater to non-essential loads grin grin grin
I can getaway with a smaller inverter by replacing several non-essential appliances with their dc equivalent.
(dc booster pump, dc submersible pump, dc water heater) but the Induction cooker, ACs, electric kettles? grin

I am always interested in any opportunity to automate and optimise my setup.

Saipro:
At less than half your PV array size, I can boast similar performance. My essential daily consumption though is less than 3kW, largely in part to a recently acquired Victron Phoenix inverter with idle consumption of about 10W (thanks to Pranil for showing me the way).

My point? Your array size is sufficient to run a block of offices during the day, disregarding your equally oversized battery bank. I hope those batteries don't croak from shelf life expiry long before you've used up half their useful capacity.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m):
^... and when the pump is not in use, heat water with the PV panels!
What more can a man ask for? grin
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 12:09pm On Aug 12, 2018
I'd go with option 2 Nonoski.
I use a 1hp sub pump, and my tank capacity is 4000 litres. It's level controlled between the hours of 11.30am and 1.30pm.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 7:01pm On Aug 11, 2018
I am not sure it'll do anything. Maybe drain the batteries, since the only load is the inverter itself.
I just wanna be sure...

How did you arrive at the bolded?

4kw/48Vdc *1.25 is around 100A.

For 5kva inverters, 125A is the typical recommendation.
kiekie1:
I am very fine Sir! Nope a 100a "dcb/disconnect catridge" breaker is too small for a 4 to 6kw pure sinewave inverter design smiley .. We have the bigger 250a cartridge disconnect and also single pole industrial 250vdc DC breaker for your system design.. Let's meet in the other room once again wink.. Cheers

Most times epistles are necessary S007.

Great job Makavele!

I second the motion above.
A 6-way DB for your AC in/out, booster pump etc. This will fit nicely in that space cluttered with 20A switches.
