I plan to do something similar on my genset starter battery (12Vdc 7Ah) to keep it healthy and charged as it runs once a quarter. Options: A. Get a Victron Orion 48v to 12v DC/DC converter and a timer to switch it on twice a month for 30 mins B. Get an old laptop charger and connect it to the pv input of a charge controller. The same timer will switch on the laptop charger as above. C. Replace the genset starter battery with Lithium equivalent and charge once a year. D. Replace the timer switch above with a Victron BMV 712 from ojeysky and switch based on SOC or voltage. E. ![]() Any more suggestions will be appreciated. |

You can connect your proposed battery charger to the DC bus https://img.youtube.com/vi/JW-v8PNx2C4/0.jpg The bus bar on the left carries the batteries, then all your dc loads (Inverter(s), CC, "your proposed dc charger" etc) are on the right bus bar. 2. I'm going to add night and daytime energy consumption to decide which heavy loads i reaaaallly need to transfer to the Critical Loads DB Night time = 5pm to 7am (currently averages 15kWh with one aircon on) Daytime = 7am to 5pm (averages 15kWh as the Heavy Loads DB is currently off due to ongoing renovation works)

Very nice! Unless i missed it, can you elaborate on the bolded? I suspect you'd have been better served with a 3 phase 5kva build .A typical Quattro's second output is limited to 50A ac, around 10kw. This means your heavy loads are at 10kw or lower. If higher, do you use assistants to start a Gen to Power Assist? I'm assuming your loads are split into Essential and Auxiliary loads. It means that the total Solar ENERGY generated that day was 53.56kwh to feed house loads and charge the batteries. That same historic day, his panels went berserk and pumped 12kw of power to 4 charge controllers for a few seconds causing them to angrily spit over 220Amps unto the hungry DC bus for the inverters and batteries to snag up! Everyday the house makes unreasonable(reasonable?) load demands. The inverter doesn't care, it simply takes it from the DC BUS. The batteries and charge controllers are unfortunately on the DC BUS. Penuelseun, Two independent Relays switching power to a load is very dangerous! The likelihood of both latching the same time is very high. Relays fail all the time, i work where this happens regularly... To mitigate, consider using mechanically interlocked contactors. It's physically impossible for both to energise at the same time. |

Madam all the suggestions are great as long as you have house loads sharing the 60A from the suggested CC. That kinda current on a 200Ah C10 battery bank alone may "overfeed" it. An "overfed" battery condition develops when it receives current far in excess of OEM recommendations. queenfav: |
