Thanks for the detailed response Pranil.

This is outstanding hack Pranil! One carton of Gulder for you baba...
1. Your cold water booster pump is also set at 2 bar(about 30 psi)? Is it not too low for a duplex?
2. What were your "teething troubles" setting this up?
3. Given the chance to redo this, what/where will you change/optimise?

pranil:
GUYS.

since weekend afforded me some spare time I decided to post my efforts on solar water heating

Those frequenting the forum would have known my efforts to acquire a solar water heating system and the challenges I faced

I am happy to report that I am very happy with the final results after the first teething troubles

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m):
Egbon, I'll advise you get a standalone scc to support your ministry.

I notice my Axperts (Gennex) go to float too quickly. The absorb phase is really short, like 10 minutes or so if I remember correctly. Pranil can confirm.

In addition, it takes about 35 seconds for it to track and acquire mpp after a brief cloud cover. My Classic does this without breaking a sweat cool

Back to your reliability question, updating the firmware may help. I do not think Inverters with inbuilt scc are effective solar chargers. They may kill your expensive batteries in the long run. Always support them with a standalone scc.
Good luck Charlie...
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 3:42pm On May 16, 2018
First picture shows the charge state as "Floating".
Load the inverter up let it drop out of float to bulk mode, you'll see the current/power climb.

Your system is behaving as its programmed to, nothing to worry about.

Do you do remodel work on an already completed build?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m):
The bmv's contact can be connected directly to a contactor. No need for an intermediary relay. Add a 1A fuse in series to protect your equipment.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m):
@Sinistrian,
Nice! Looking at your sketch, the connection to the load seem to be at the same potential. Is that a mistake?
If you add a timer switch in series with the bmv, you can switch on your heavy loads between say 8am-4pm as long as the
battery soc is above say 75%.

sinistrian:
Same potential as inverter input, yes. The live passes through the contactor while the neutral feeds directly from the inverter.
Peace of mind guaranteed. No fear of anyone draining your bank to dangerous levels.

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 9:18pm On May 12, 2018
@deeplo,
Calm down... You need like a fortnight to a month to extrapolate your daily energy profile.
This profile contains your daytime and nighttime energy use.
Size your battery bank for night time use.
Size your PV array for daily use.
Size your inverter for the maximum loads you'll be running concurrently.

Before all that up there, solarize! Make your house energy efficient. Your 72 inch TV, is it cathode Ray tube? Your bulbs nko? Tungsten? You get the drill...

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 7:36am On May 11, 2018
If you already have a 3-phase DB, perfect!
Dedicate one of the phases to Inverter loads, and the other two to PHCN only loads.
Stick a caution sign on your db stating "Dual Power Source Feed", so any electrician will
know to isolate all your power sources before fiddling with ya db.

lexi28:
I basically want to leave some circuits on solar/inverter backup when PHCN fails without the use of separate DB's.

I am trying to get the simplest way to achieve that without complex rewiring.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m):
Fuse holder dimension. The price is of little consequence, na the size.
I want something petite as reflected in the picture I posted for use on my classic.

I've seen them online in different sizes baba. I have the 3-pole 250A isolator which I use for "Emergency battery disconnect". They come in 2 and 3 pole variants.

kiekie1:
Hello, I dont really knw what you meant by "too big" but the ones I sell & use are within 30-35k
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 6:49pm On May 07, 2018
Chuckdee,
I have some 80A/125A HRC fuses lying around. Where can I get the fuse holder highlighted below? The ones I see around are too big (for 250A fuses).

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m):
@Saipro,
1. Get a 3g/Lte modem (Huawei makes several variants)
1a. Disable the wireless ssid on the modem.
2. Connect modem to a firewall to secure your network from "them"
3. Hook up firewall router to a POE switch (Edge, unifi, tp link etc)
4. Connect a unifi AP to the switch (Unifi makes several variants)
5. Centrally locate the AP. You'll get magnificent coverage. You can connect as many wireless devices as you like.
6. Connect a Powerline adapter(ethernet over power line device ) to 3 above(the poe switch)
7. Connect the second part of the adapter to your classic, and viola!! No need for wireless extenders.
8. Connect as many Lan devices as your switch can carry(example your TV points, NAS server, etc)

I've done something similar, but mine is an overkill grin grin

Pranil,
Where did you get your Grundfos Scala2 booster pump?
My current pump runs at over 1200w.

I want a low consumption booster pump i can move to my "Essential loads" db for 24/7 operation.

I can relate... My neighbour is a rich dude who runs his diesel gen for almost 24hrs daily.
There's this deep hum that irritates. I might consider arranging boys to make his gen disappear angry

I have equally tried to convert him, but he loves diesel too much grin. How do you convert someone who owns several diesel tank farms?

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Barezzi(m): 11:28am On Apr 18, 2018
@Chuckdee,
Actually, I have 2 fridges and 2 freezers.

The fridges are on inverter while the freezers cycle 9am to 4pm.
I'll run both overnight for a couple of days and see how it impacts on the bottom line.
I like to keep my night time consumption below 5 units.

I'm currently reworking my set up, seems the life of tinkering will never end.

GeorgeD1:
barezzi,
this is getting quite interesting, isn't it? if 300ah for lead-acid equals 100ah for lithium it then
means we have to ultimately change the way we calculate our power fundamentals, i.e p=iv.
unfortunately i'm yet to see any documentation in support of this. i'd be happy if you could give
any references. at least that would be a good starting point.
