Well, I was so enthusiastic about becoming an accountant/auditor when I was still an undergraduate. After my Nysc, I got a job in an audit firm. I worked in that firm for 3 years(started with N42k & ended with 65k). I left because that job satisfaction was not there anymore. Working as an auditor became boring to me & coupled with the small salary, I didn't project myself becoming a multi-millionaire in the next 7 years. Auditors don't really earn much. I had to open a company & got it registered with CAC & now, I deal on the sales/supplies of PPEs/safety equipments and I got my company registered as a vendor with some oil servicing companies in my city. Life's better now and I really love what I do.

Plz are you very sure it will not take more than 2 weeks to change proprietors of a 25 yr old business name? I need to be sure on this incase I want to use your service because I would not want it to take much time.

wait change of directors is only for a registered company. What you intend to do is change of proprietor and not directors. Like I stated in my previous quote, I thought you were changing directors. Yes you have to pay annual returns. When was the business name registered. Note business name is different from company.
Let me check the regulations for requirements to change proprietor.

Ok it's change of proprietors. It was incorporated in 1995.

I inquired more on your question from a colleague and he said you have to furnish to apply and seek leave to open a temporary file. Then once they open, you can now apply for CTC. If you don't have the documents to open the file, then you may have to register a new business name.

I also heard I have to pay my annual returns since the year the company was incorporated till date + penalty which is N3,500 per annum. Would this payment be made before or after the temporary file is created.

If you lost your incorporated documents in a fire or it was stolen you can tell a CAC accredited agent, to file for the certified true copies to be gotten from the file at CAC.

For certificate and other documents.
Payment of filing fee
Duly completed application form

What if the company(Business name) was incorporated a long time ago and they can no longer find the company's file at CAC' state office of incorporation? What happens next?
