ndu_chucks: Don't be surprised that I agree with your post in as much as we are talking about the settled Fulani. The Fulani were probably all nomads in times past, but some clans later settled in towns and villages (settled Fulani), while others continued nomadism (nomadic Fulani). The two groups are otherwise similar in all respects. However, while the settled Fulani see cattle-rearing as a hobby and businesses, the "nomadic Fulani" considers it a way of life.

The distiction is very important. You people calling for the destruction of the way of life of people who have been living in Nigeria since at least the 1500s are quite insensitive. We can find solutions to the problem but we must be sensitive to the way of live of the millions of herdsmen in question. I'm afraid until a reasonable and comprehensive solution is found, you people better learn how to fend off daggers and vicious sticks.
i have nothign against the culture or way of life but its wrong to venture into someones property and no culture permits that, buy the lands yourselves, you dont even need to venture south theres a enough land in the north , i used to think the north was all desert till i saw pictures the other of northern states ,its actually as green as the south and with such a large land mass there will be less issues of land disputes unlike the south so whats the problem ?
PoliticsRe: Fulani Herdsmen Demand Land Rights In 36 States by bashr8: 12:11am On Sep 09, 2012
ndu_chucks: Your question clearly indicates that you are ignorant of our history and are looking for a naive and simplistic solution for a very complex problem.

Farmer-nomad conflict is second only to Boko Haram among dangers threatening Nigeria. Violence has erupted between nomads and farmers in Nasarawa, Taraba, Benue, Plateau and Adamawa states recently not to talk of similar conflicts in the SW, SE, and SS. I'd suggest you first read up and try to understand the root cause of these conflicts before suggesting dumb solutions.

Maybe your brother Akanbi_Edu can assist you with the education.

You know better than the post above. Stop pretending that the kind of social reengineering required for what you are suggesting has ever been done successfully anywhere in the world
north west alone is bigger than SE and SS put together, why dont you dedicate one or 2 states there , buy massive lands and graze in it, imagine the beroms waking up tomorrow to discover that federal govt gave fulanis their land in plateau for free to graze. besides the same way they want federal govt to give them land why dont they just buy the land, what do you do with all the billions you make from cattle trade? you dont build houses, you dont send your children to school , your not that materialistic like the south so pls do you cook and eat the money?
PoliticsRe: Fulani Herdsmen Demand Land Rights In 36 States by bashr8: 10:08pm On Sep 08, 2012
why cant the fulanis buy lands for grazing afterall they make billions from sales of cows and nigerians buy them its not as if we get them for free, its buisness and not an act of patriotism. live stock farmers dont go about asking govt to give them land around the country for poutry or fish farming so why cow.

RomanceRe: MY AGONY @ 30.....A Fiction Turn Reality. by bashr8: 7:00pm On Sep 08, 2012
cmpunk: This is not my story neither is my write-up.I came across it from a friend and i felt like sharing.

MY AGONY AT 30
It has been said that the best thing in life are free but I sometimes wonder who said it. He or she probably never went through difficulty in getting the so called ‘best gifts’. As for me, the best things in life didn’t come cheap and were definitely not free. As I sit down and think, I just cannot help but smile.
New Years Eve was a hard one. I didn’t want that day to end. Once the clock struck 12 midnight, I would be closer to thirty years. What was there to love about being thirty? I hated my job, I was still living with my parents and I was being constantly reminded of the phrase ‘you are single’ and gradually being referred to as ‘old egg.’ So I wondered what the big deal about the New Year was anyway. Time sure waits for no one. I stopped my watch at 11:45pm and refused to let it strike 12midnight, who was I kidding? ‘Happy New Year’ echoed in my ears, with lots of fireworks. People were having a blast with their lives and I was here. ‘What if I end up being an angry old maid? I thought to myself, Suddenly, I felt like the ladies of “Sex and the City” and I wondered if I needed a “back-up plan” like Jennifer Lopez.
My mum and dad had gone to church for the New Years Eve celebration. I was still lost in the euphoria of my next step when I heard a knock, my parents were back. I cringed. ‘Mum, Dad welcome oh’
‘Yejide, thank you my dear’, mum responded. I didn’t like the sound of that. I knew my mother and she was about to spill out those words. I am frustrated as I am. Please don’t say anything. I muttered silently, but it was too late. ‘Yejide my dear, I prayed and prayed for you in church, I know this year is your year. It is my enemies that are at work, God will not let them succeed’. Mum, please stop, I thought. I allowed a frown to crease my forehead hoping that she would get the message but she did not. ‘Em, you know, Ifeoluwa, your younger sister was only 24 when she got married and we are already planning Tomi’s wedding, he is 28 o! Don’t worry, this year, we will do your own. Won’t you say amen?’

I just stood there speechless, my heart was heavy and my eyes, sore. I closed the living room obviously, I was looking for a way out and I was not thinking when I said ‘mum, dad guess what? I have been transferred to Abuja, effective from 24th of January. ’

But you can’t go to Abuja, How will I plan your wedding when you’re in Abuja and I am in Ibadan. Remember, this year is your year.’ How will my mother be planning my wedding without a man? My mum was close to tears but I knew I had to get out of this house, and I was not transferred. How do I get myself transferred? Oh My God, no one will transfer me to Abuja, what do I do?

Mysterious things, they say, really do happen. When I got to the Office the next day and I got a letter of transfer although not to Abuja as I had uttered in my foolishness but I did not care. A transfer is a transfer. Akwa-Ibom! I looked up and said a silent thank you .There’s definitely a God up there and he still cared about me. Why he did not intervene in my relationships, I do not know but for saving me from this transfer mess I got myself into, I was indeed grateful.

I went to my boss and gave him a warm hug then said ‘thank you so much, you don’t know how much this means to me.

‘What? I felt sad because I was giving you a transfer, I didn’t know you’d be thanking me’ he replied. ‘Not to worry sir, trust me. You just saved my life.’ I got home excited and gave my mum a hug and said, ‘Mum I’m not going to Abuja, I’m going to Akwa-Ibom but in 2 weeks.’

2mch: Did you get married to a boy still living in his parents house? Are both of you dependent on the parents? If this is true, you better keep quiet and take it since he is feeding you. Either that or you risk having the whole family turn on you with your need to correct a grand father. Keep out of his way if it is too much for you. Am sure your presence or family dependence on him is annoying too. If you don't rely on him for anything, then keep your opinions to yourself. Am sure you have bigger issues to worry about.

pweeryambre: We are in the 3rd year of our relationship. And i knew he grew up from the village and was trained by his grandmother(very old woman) although he has been displaying some annoying local champion attitude from the begining, i over looked it and thot that it would change with time, but recently its getting so annoying dat its begining to embarasse me u wont even believ he is a graduate.he is just 29.
He wil not take proper medication to cure his sickness. he wil go down to village to hav one native doctor beat out wat dey call pin from his body. Atimes ordinary malaria wil last a whole month in his body as a result. Always chewin garlik and all sorts of local herb which leaves his mouth smellin funny all d time.
Dosent beliv in romance anymore , our sex life has bcome so rigid, he just want to f**k without any form of 4play. Says romance is for d white man.
He prefers d company of very old piple or very small boys dat just left sec skul and says his mates dosent know wat dey r doing,,, dis is coming from sombody dat belives C ronaldo uses charm to play football
. He Dresses funny atimes. And his views on life generally is archaic.the other day we visited a married couple friends of ours and dey served us springles potatotoe snack and he just flong the thin away saying dat its food for pigeons dat dey shuld boil yam for him to eat wit red oil, which dey did. Althou we laughed at it. I was just embarassed. I dont even want to talk abt how he spent overr 950k buyin ordinary 2nd hand audi 80 car, just because he belives dat an old model car is better than new model. even though he complaind bitterly of bein broke.
now he says he wants to park and go and live in the village dat i shuld join him. I m thinking of dumping him cos dis is not wat i want in a man, but d only thin is dat he is too handsome.and he has a good heart.
you knew all this from the begining and still wen ahead to date him for 3 years? you have two options either you live with it or let him be afterall if he relocates to the village am sure he will find a village girl that loves him just the way he is.

asha 80: i am watching nta news now.they showed a number of people claiming to be from kogi state.among urging the fg to declare the kogi an oil producing state they are also demanding that a substancial amount of people that are to work in the downstream of orient petroleum should be from kogi huh.

i have been quiet about this but from this fresh agitation i think orient should simply abandon any oil well proved to be located in kogi and focus on the ones located in anambra to avoid unnecessary crises.
exactly they should just forget anything kogi, thank God he built the refinery in aguleri anambra, it seem igbo people never learn this their one nigerian stupidity keeps getting them in trouble , i heard he wanted to build a large depot in kogi where finished products will be stored and distributed to the north , hope he will change his mind now and build it in ebonyi instead. oh God when will our people learn.

afam4eva: MInd you, if Kogi is made an oil producing state, the same status will be accorded to Enugu state as well.
if both enugu and kogi want to ge that status they should go to aso rock and fight for it dats their buisness, anambra have fought for theirs and got it.

smh for our youths, unless kogi is trying to redraw the map and force aguleri into kogi state majority of the oil wells ares till in anambra with some parts overlying enugu, kogi ,edo.

PoliticsRe: Anambra/Kogi Oil Wells - Ownership Still Unresolved by bashr8: 2:53pm On Sep 06, 2012
ndu_chucks: May I asked you honorable gentlemen, what the criteria for declaring a State, "An Oil Producing State" is? As far as I know, any state where oil/gas has been discovered in commercial quantities becomes a oil producing state and receives funds from the Federal government. Since no one is disputing that the oil blocks which contain the oil lies within Kogi, (and other states, which have already been declared Oil Producing States), why would GEJ irresponsibly announce that Anambra will be declared an oil producing state without declaring Kogi as same?

This president of ours is prone to gaffs, irresponsibilities, and acts befiting of strictly cretinous people.
because currently no oil is being drilled from kogi, ebonyi or enugu, they are still exploring meanwhile drilling have already started in anambra. any state can claim to have oil deposit even allocate oil wells but untill they actually pump out oil from the state you cannot declare it an oil producing state. states like sokoto and kwara too are claiming to have oil but you cant delclare them oil producing till you actually confirm and pump out oil from there.
PoliticsRe: Anambra/Kogi Oil Wells - Ownership Still Unresolved by bashr8: 2:42pm On Sep 06, 2012
afam4eva: Kogi is claiming that most if not all of the oil wells are in their territory.
they didnt claim that that will be dumb , i think they want to be recognised as oil producing state since some of the wells are in kogi thats why they need to go to abuja for that, state boundries are very clear and even communities know their boundries, dont believe all these crappy newspapers they are just trying to sell their paper and will write anything.
PoliticsRe: Anambra/Kogi Oil Wells - Ownership Still Unresolved by bashr8: 2:40pm On Sep 06, 2012
Obinoscopy: I had thought this issue had been resolved? The oil deposits transverses Anambra, Kogi, Enugu, Delta and Edo States but the bulk of it is in Anambra State. So whats the hullabaloo all about?
even if you repeat it a million times with map they will never figure it out, i blame educational system ,our youths have turned to dummies and walking zombies. we are yet to celebrate that for the first time we have a home based oil company owned by nigerians that refine oil right here in nigeria rather than shell and the rest that are owned by foreigners ,deface our land and waters, export our oil ,refine it in their country and sell it back to us as finish product thereby making back the money and tax (with profit)they paid to us for drilling our oil.

solution is bakassi , i wonder why they dont want to use the best and most reliable means of policing or is it against the constitution? when bakassi was around you can drop 100k on the road and come back 3 days later to pick it up. not everything should be handled in a western way.
PoliticsRe: Obi Launches Battle Against Kidnapping In Anambra by bashr8: 1:38pm On Sep 06, 2012
Brand_new: Rather he should create a favourable enviroment for businesses to thrive and more jobs will be created for the kidnappers or else he will just be fighting a lost war.
who told you those behind kidnapping are broke or dont have a busness? kidnapping can only thrive in a place where majority of the people have jobs and good buisness and living fine, if they decide to move to north who will they kidnap? mallam we never chop for 2 days?.
CrimeRe: More Suspects Arrested In Cynthia's Murder by bashr8: 1:35pm On Sep 06, 2012
they should also arrest all her facebook friends, the pilot and owner of the airline that flew her to lagos, all the people she called before she left, everybody that knows any body that was arrested including, everybody that lives around the location of the hotel, only a fool will believe nigerian oilce, someone is obviously trying to get a promotion.

Antivirus92: i sometimes marvel at the way you south-west people apply your hatred for certain people and at the same try to look impertial. Look at your judgement;so for more than ten years anambra government have been supervising that area, they usually come in person, they do it openly in such a way that everybody know their purpose yet the kogi govt still don't know that the area is theirs. Dude grow up and leave hatred cos even engine oil will not be found in that una cursed desert.
that is because people from south west are usually slow.you have to explain to them several times before they understand , you have to break it down to abcd just like how you teach primary school pupils. no mater how many times we discuss this they will never never understand it.

omayyi :
a good reasoning human being would also understand that the fact that an item has been lying in my territory without my knowledge does not make it any less my own. Walking into someone else's territory and discovering something does not make it yours-common sense.

Once again you Igbos have lived up to your reputation; helping others build their land. Lmao
your laughing at yourself cus you just shown how shallow you are. whether they carve them in anambra or kogi will not change the fact that the wells where paid for by orient and where they build and refine the crude oil does not concern anybody after all shell export theirs ,refine it and import it back to nigeria while orient built theirs in anambra, it will not also change the fact that anambra ,and several other states and investors bought shares in the company and will reap their benefits regardless which state gets the well.

if kogi wants to be declared oil producing state then they should go to abuja and stop making noise all over the media.if they want to set up another refinery that refinery will have to buy back the oil well from orient thats if orient is interested in selling them and if orient says no theres nothing kogi can do except result in militancy which will mkake jtf set up a base in kogi, theres no amount of carving , recarving of boundries that will change the fact that anambra is an oil producing state and the whole state is covered with crude oil reserves.

PoliticsRe: Anambra/Kogi Oil Wells - Ownership Still Unresolved by bashr8: 1:14pm On Sep 06, 2012
the oil wells are owned by orient refinery , whether its in kogi or anambra or enugu does not concern them , oil wells in nigeria have different boundries from state boundry , anambra state being smart bought large shares in the company so did rivers state and several other investors however they are still exploring those wells in kogi so no oil is being drilled from there yet . as for them demending to be declared oil producing state that fight is with aso rock abuja. no matter how many times you explain this to people they will never understand.
PoliticsRe: Anambra/Kogi Oil Wells - Ownership Still Unresolved by bashr8: 12:34pm On Sep 06, 2012
oil wells belong to orient petroleum whether its in kogi , anambra, enugu, enugu etc . that shell have oil wells in the niger delta does not mean the brithish own nigeri delta, all these people should stop mentioning anambra state. if you want to be declared an oil producing state, simply go to abuja where such politics are done.
