Ola one: Just to correct Freecocoa and others, Moin Moin is a YORUBA dish. It's neither universal nor general. It's 100% Yoruba.

Moin Moin is the 'Lagos' spelling. It is actually spelt Moyin Moyin - a Yoruba word that means 'a delicacy that sticks to your teeth.'

That's it!
good to know moyin moyin is what yorubas call it because it is moi moi in igbo and no its not exclusive to nigeria , its eaten accros africa and asia , igbos prepare it covered in plantain leaves the same way we prepare agigi , okpa, ukpaka , i cant even remember ever seeing moi moi in yorubaland even in lagos unlike igboland where its sold in almost every street and restaurant

Lordave: See as everybody de claim egusi... I even c person say 'Ogbonna soup'. Pls wat about Ifeanyi soup?
egusi is one of those plants that grow in different parts of the world especially asia and africa, how you use it depends , egusi soup prepared by igbos is different from egusi soup prepared by edos or yoruba just like palm kernel soup (ofe aku in igbo and i think banga in edo).

akigbemaru: Akidi? May sound Ibo
[s]Akamu is a kind of pap drink in Yorubaland[[/s]/b]
Akara is a beans cake in Yoruba land.

[s]I am not trying to sound rude or disrespect my Ibo brother. But a lot of Yoruba words for food and items are similar to Ibo words and I think all came from when Bishop Ajayi Crowther a Yoruba son helped Ibo people to codify and formalize their language, he couldn't find a replacement for some items and he named them after Yoruba items.
E.g. Tolo tolo (turkey) or Garri (cassava grits) e.t.c.

But we have got to understand that Yoruba culture and norms transcend just one continent and makes it easy for any of its practices to spread like wide fire.

I used to date a Ghanaian lady, when she speaks, I would barely comprehend anything she was saying. One day, I saw a potash Alum (kan un) in Yoruba, I asked her what is that she said Kan un, just like the way Yoruba people pronounce it. I thought that maybe coincidence, and one day again, I was messing with her and I said she had already Americanized by wearing jeans all the time. She responded back that it's not so, that show used to get "ankoo" with her divorced husband, and I was like that sounds Yoruba again. Ankoo in Yoruba means either husband and wife or the whole family or different set of people disguise in the same outfit. Then, she took me to her closet and said this is my (Buba and Iro) Blouse and wrap skirt. And I have noticed some few similarities in our food with her food. What interesting to me was, she doesn't speak or understand Yoruba language and neither she speaks Nigerian Pidgin English. If say how far, she would like I am ok, after that she doesn't other anything in our pidgin again. Even I may have forgotten sometimes, she would be the one to remind me that she doesn't understand what I was speaking to her.
[/s]rubbish akamu is igbo word for pap which is a world wide food by the way made from maize which is abundance in igboland and limited or not grown in yorubaland, stop stealing what does not belong to you

there where lots of igbo missionaries in yprubaland by the way , igbos had the highest number of missionaries, thats why today yorubaland is filled with igbo food

Pap is also called ugali in eastern and some parts of southern Africa; sadza/isitshwala in Zimbabwe; nsima in Zambia and Malawi; phaletshe in Botswana and banku in West Africa. Another South African name for it is mieliepap.[citation needed] from the Afrikaans words "Mielie", meaning "Corn", and "Pap".
In Nigeria, it is called akamu amongst the Igbo and ogi amongst the Yorubas with a consistency similar to American pudding
. Ogi/Akamu in Nigeria is generally accompanied with "moin moin" a bean pudding or "akara" which is a bean cake. A similar dish is polenta, from northern Italy. In the United States a similar dish is known as grits. The primary difference between the US and the South African dishes is that in the US the maize (or corn) used is a yellow kernel maize, whereas in South Africa maize is especially grown for human consumption with white kernels, allowing the whole kernel to be used for the maize meal

maybe one day you will claim jollof rice, which is not even a nigerian name but igbo version of it is called rice okpei
FoodRe: Name Any Nigerian Dish And The Tribe It's Associated With by bashr8: 1:43pm On Jul 01, 2012
alj harem: Yoruba people. Pap could be called Ogi or Akamu. Akamu is more used among in Osun, and northern part of yorubaland, I think.

Akara is just fried bean cake which is yoruba as well.
akara (bean cake )is not yoruba it is a world wide dish eaten even in europe , the yoruba name might be akara but it is also the igbo name for bean cake so stop claiming

It is called "akara" by the Igbo people of south-eastern Nigeria and in the Yorubaland of south-western Nigeria, "kosai" by the Hausa people of Nigeria or "koose" in Ghana and is a popular breakfast dish, eaten with millet or corn porridge.

alj harem: You have to understand that Igbos borrow cultures a lot, most who go to states like Lagos and Oyo. It is not surprising when we were talking about Egusi when Igbos claimed it started in ala igbo.

Moi moi is not only used by Nigerian Yorubas but also those in the carribeans and benin republic of which Igbos had no influence on.

Cerlos people in serri leano also have the same account

If you want me to bring out the link, I can.
criminal do u even know what akidi is, well am sure u will go google it.as for egusi its all around africa not just nigeria

spyder880: I love this state, and the towns that make up the state. I dont know if I will ever like to live anywhere else but Enugu, the way of life of the citizens of Enugu seems to be the best in the country.

Enugu people are very accomodating, hardworking and yet humble. We have everything here and yes, Enugu is working.

In this thread, I will try to change the perception of people about how bad or negative Nigeria is, lets start from where we are. I expect everyone to do something, lets stop the negativity for a while and focus on our positives. There are more good things in Nigeria than bad. You only need to look for it and see it.

I will flood this thread with so many pictures that people will complain, I have about 150 pictures loaded (more will be added this new week), I am ready to paste them here but I will post those in the evening, many towns were covered, many of our landmarks are here. The good, the moderately good and the terrible.

But let me just be posting and typing words for now, explaining some facts about Enugu.
shhhhhh dont share our secret with the world cool

Can anyone compare this feminine rant to this intelectual post below?
slowpoke how many times will we go over the same thing on nairaland , i bet u enjoy idleness . like i said all these ranting wont change the fact that awo was a convicted criminal and that yorubas especially nairaland warriors are just confused and dont know what they want.

all this ranting and posting of crap will not change the fact that awo was a convict and treasourous person maybe katsumoto can save us the headahche and take his debate to the northerners that locked him up and all other yoruba leaders up througout nigeria history plus those killed , it funny that even though the north west and east all wanted out even now the yorubas are crying for autonomy and odua rep yet they are the first to attack anything biafra or ojukwu, non of them are yet to explain on behalf of their northern masters why aburi accord was dishonoured by gowon . the same reason is why curruption have eaten up nigeria today , bunch of clowns without direction , they say one thing today and say another thing tomorrow.

it is you yorubas that are anooying , nobod mentioned yoruba but as always you always want to defend your slave masters in the north , you wont even see any of them comment , shameless things, you need to start minding your buisness.we have mentioned it several times we dont want to be in the same country with you and ur masters , get it into your thick skull and stop crying about igbos olodo

KDULAR: To every Yorubaman on this thread I'll say why would you continue to drag issues with those who are hell bent in engaging in nothing else but arguments and ethnic chauvunism. If Awo is not goood, thanks we know, Yorubas are fool, cowards idiots stinking and uneducated etc, yes we hear. "We (Igbos) have surpassed you in educational, technlogical and social achievements", yes we know. "Infact all the achievements of the western region was because of Igbo mans presence in the land" , yes we know (mute). "Awolowo is a criminal" yes we know, however, Chief Ojukwu said he was the best president Nigeria never had.
Chief Ayinde Barrister sang in New Dimension Fuji " Bi awoko o gbe orin wa, aroye kini ibaka maa ri wi, igbe ki l'eye o wule ke lasan. The more you answer them the more they feel important ( Eje ka pe were l'oko iyawo k'ole je k'a ri imu mi). Efi igbe sile fun yinmiyinmi (lleave the feaces for the dung beetle, thats its food), the pig knows no other game(play) than mud plays. Just don't join them in their dirty game, it's their natural habitat, their niche, leave it to them. It's burning their soul, rather than learn and move forward , they still continue to wallow in the nonsense, you listen learn and move forward. I believe that we have gone beyond those primordial sentiments. Leave them alone, don't join issues with them, discuss the issues , don't be distracted by the market noise. "I am better than you is not an issue based on wrestling prowess" ( Aju rawa lo, ti jakadi ko). Igbehin ni ye oloku ada, the one with the blunt cutlass will realise at the end. Finally eepa para e , oni oun paja, When the dog dies which has happened lets see what eepa will do grin grin grin grin grin grin
nobody cares about awo or yorubas , its shamful that the tension was between igbos and hausa/fulanis but yorubas always want to involve themselves anytime its brought up just to defend their slave masters in the north . you people just mind your buisness and nobody will discuyss you , as for awolowo he is a criminal it is what it is after all it was not an igbo man that imprisoned him it was your slave masters in the north that dealt with him and killed several other yoruba leaders while you keep worshiping them.

dayokanu: Thats why in war you should take the benjamin Adekunle approach. Kill every opponent

Yorubas would say Oju afoofotan, ija lon da sile. If you want to make somene blind, dont do it partially cos it would cause war in the future

Defeat your opponents totally so there wont be a doubt about it.

no victor, No Vanquish My asss
have you buried 500 hundred thousand soldiers killed with made in aba guns? untill you do that shut your trap. and for your info , adekunle only killed women and children in bayelsa and rivers state(old rivers)that was his only achievement before he became a crack addict , we should give him cookies for that nigeria army never and will never stand a chance against igbos any day anytime, it unfortunate egyptians where also bombing biafra beleiveing they are fighting a jihad against christians while britains was fighting to get oil by all means if not of them they wont be any nigeria for you to talk about.
