10 killed as Fulani herdsmen invade Benue communities

Ten persons were reported killed and property worth millions of naira destroyed as Fulani herdsmen yesterday attacked some villages in Gwer-West Local Government of Benue State.
An eyewitness, Solomon Igbo, told The Nation that the herdsmen stormed the villages about 10am when the victims were in church, torching their homes after shooting sporadically.
Communities affected were Tsechile, Mbahungwa and Mbachwa in Mbakpa-Sengev district where more than 100 houses were destroyed.
Some residents were shot dead as they attempted to escape.
Another eyewitness said the invaders were armed with sophisticated weapons and dressed like Chadians, speaking Hausa.
The traditional rural of Gwer-west(Ter-Tyoshin), Chief Daniel Abomtse, said that they received information about the plan by the Fulani herdsmen to invade their village two days ago and they alerted security agencies.
Police spokesman Ejike Alaribe said information on the incident was still sketchy, “but our men are on ground to stop further destruction of life and property.”

Abagworo: All I have to say is that I'm impressed. Imo State is developing at an unprecedented rate under this great son of ours. The high education level of Imolites has finally paid off as we fought to defend our votes and elect the candidate of our choice. No other State in any region apart from Southwest has elected a candidate of their choice since 1999.Imo broke a record and it is paying off. I have read here on Nairaland where people challenged Rochas that Imo is not only Owerri and falsely claimed that Owerri is the only urban in Imo.

I visited Orlu and behold it is a large metropolis. Even bigger than Owerri covering several LGAs from Njaba,Orlu,Nkwerre,Orsu,Nwangele and Ideato. There has been a population increase and all these places are joined with no space. The only way you can tell you are in another LGA is sign post. The roads are generally lacking attention but the man with a Midas touch has come to transform this city and I'm a witness.
