That's a week without her asking her bank to place a restriction on her account. Also, she apparently didn't say anything about whether she lost her atm card or not. Remember you need the last four digits to confirm a transaction
FlirtyKaren:
My purse with other documents and ID cards were stolen last year April...
You may be right about the ATM but from her post it is likely her ATM was part of the things she lost, that's just a conjecture though. Regarding contacting her bank she should have done so when she lost her ATM if she did lose it. However, it is not possible for her to have known after the withdrawals started as her Sim had been swapped at that point and so no alerts.

remember! daily limit is 100k or for online transaction
But the OP's Sim was swapped for almost a week before Airtel could do anything about it. So it is very possible they had enough time to take 400k from her account.

One can argue that it is easy to get the identity of the thief by tracing the account but you well know there are many out there who have been declared wanted for years without being caught.

I doubt this story based on the following reasons:

There is no way to transfer money online without use of token, password and answer to the security question.

So even if they succeeded in accessing your mails, don't tell me you stored your online bank password and security question answer there and they stole your token also.

if the story is true, reporting to the bank should have been the first line of action.
You are quite wrong. Regardless of whether you have a token device or not you can send money from any GTBANK account to any account if you have access to the phone number registered to the account and the last 4 digits of the ATM using their *737* short code. I was surprised when I discovered this and complained in an email to GT but they dismissed my concern as a non issue.

hmmmm..

Nice deduction @ Op. And you begin to ask the question, "What utility is derived from drinking such alcohol?" You'll realize that all is vanity upon vanity.

After getting drunk, you fall asleep and it all ends in the toilet and iff unlucky, in the gutter. So gross. embarassed embarassed
Do you eat? What is the utility of eating if it ends in the toilet? Eating and drinking both provide temporary utility. Utility is inherently subjective, just like a drowning man will have zero utility for water while a thirsty person would you can't ascribe any utility to something you don't use or need.

FamilyRe: Is There Any Risk Sponsoring The Education Of A Girl You Want To Marry? by bb6xt(m): 3:16pm On Feb 02, 2016
Cammo:
I have a girlfriend that I plan to marry. She's a 100 Level student in UNILAG but is having difficulties paying her up school fees. Her mom, a widow, is doing her best but it's not enough. Since I'm a graduate and now working, I feel like helping out. It's an obligation I earnestly wish to take but my friends keep telling me that she would eventually dump my sorry ass for another guy before graduation, and there's nothing I can do. Very confused. I love her and I know she loves me too.
Please advice.
Is there any risk in giving to charity? I tell you there is absolutely no risk. But don't ever think for a second that contributing to her education entitles you to anything if you do that'd be the death of you.

So if you are going to do it at all do it like you would to your biological sister with absolutely no strings. Otherwise you'll just be setting yourself up for "stories that touch" if not high blood pressure.

Much as I support Buhari I make bold to say his arrest is a misuse of power carried out by overzealous, blind sycophants like yourself and not necessarily endorsed by Mr. President. I'll be remiss otherwise.

EducationRe: Outstanding Fees! Delta State First Class Scholarship Students Stranded Abroad by bb6xt(m): 4:53pm On Jan 15, 2016
bubsykay:
I hope this will make a front page because the lives of these first class students are being threaten everyday in foreign universities for unpaid fees.

AN OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, DR. IFEANYI OKOWA, GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE, ON THE PLIGHT OF FIRST CLASS GRADUATE SCHOLARS ABROAD.

Your Excellency, Dear Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, we are constrained to pen this open letter, to bring to your attention, the plight, hardship and financial quandary, students under the Delta State Scholarship Board, First Class Graduate Scholarship scheme, are currently faced with.

As you are aware, the First Class Scholarship Bursary Scheme, embarked to have the state’s most stellar students, enjoy the benefits of top tier education- and exposure, to make for human capital improvements, and as investments for the future, in line with the ‘Delta Beyond Oil’ vision of a state excelling in all spheres.

In line with this vision, many graduates and professionals keyed into this program, convinced of the commitment and assurance of the state, both in advancing the education of it’s own, and making for future returns, with trained scholars, academics and internationally groomed professionals, making good the vision of taking the state to amiable heights in their chosen endeavours.

But alas, this has become a challenge and painful embarrassment by the day, as funds meant for this program have not been made available to most of us in the last twenty (20) months, with others, in worse receipt states. Majority of us caught up in this, are studying for our PhDs, with some in their finals, and others in their penultimate study years. We already have explored all means to having this quagmire resolved, as enjoined by the board, with no indication of respite in sight, or any assurance to the contrary, and our conditions abroad have become dire.

At the moment, our Universities have served notice regarding our fees default status, and have threatened, and with some others- initialized, a withdrawal process, and nullification of students visas- and consequently, impending deportations. In addition, a blacklist of the confidence standing of the scholarship board is already in effect, and assurance/award
letters have been dismissed as lacking trustworthiness. Already, meeting up with bills and maintenance, has been fraught with embarrassing defaults, with county court judgements/injunctions and demands from creditors, becoming an unsettling reality.

We’re not unmindful of the state’s financial situation, occasioned by the drop in revenue, and allocations, and this has been demonstrated in the lead up to this route with steady and forbearing persuasions, formal and informal.

Again, we are pressed to plead that you employ your good office in having this issue attended to, with prayers that said funds are made available to us, so we could- at the very least, have tuition and basic commitments attended to, and to save the state and ourselves, another, in the annals of disrupted programs and broken lives. We trust that both as a father and leader, our welfare would/and has not lost your attention, hence this plea.

Thank you, Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, for steps you would take to rectifying this, and may God bless Delta State.

Signed: DELTA STATE FIRST CLASS GRADUATE SCHOLARS

Isn't it ironic, or even hypocritical, that the people who are fighting for the right to self determination should at the same time be so violently opposed to another fighting for the same right as they are?

They want their Biafra, great! But why insist on taking SS with you? Doesn't SS have the right to choose different?

I have often observed on this forum, quite surprisingly, that the passion with which pro-Biafrans insist on including SS in their Biafra is even more than that they put into fighting for Biafra itself. Hmm..

Hi guys,

I am learning Russian on Duolingo. Today I will be rounding up Basics 2 and it is getting really interesting.

Is there anyone who is also interested in learning Russian? You can get the Duolingo mobile app from the app stores and we could chat on WhatsApp (IMs and calls) and share experiences and generally help each other become better faster.

I love Russian because of Kolmogorov, Markov, Cherbyshev, Lyapunov etc. I also love me some German because of Hilbert, Riemann, Noether etc. Yes, you guessed right, I love Math! My personal mentor has a PhD in Mathematics from Moscow so I guess that's why I'm starting off with Russian.

Hmm, I hope I haven't bored you to death with my rambling. If you're interested in either language please get in touch.
EducationAre There Any Beneficiaries Of Tetfund Academic Staff Training Here? by bb6xt(op): 1:12pm On Dec 28, 2015
Hello Nairalanders,

Are there any beneficiaries of the TETFund Academic Staff Training & Development program here? I recently got an academic position in one of the federal polytechnics and would like to further my education. I have gotten admission to an MSc program here but would much prefer to study abroad. I have scoured their website (www.tetfund.gov.ng) but haven't found sufficient information hence the topic.

I would appreciate any information regarding the Academic Staff Training & Development program of the TETFund especially as it relates to overseas scholarships for postgraduate studies and how one might go about applying for it.

Thank you all in advance for your anticipated contribution. Do have a splendid day!

PS:
Over my time as a member of this forum I have come to discover some magic words which when invoked could guarantee a topic some chance of gaining a certain popularity so I will shamelessly invoke them myself, viz:

I believe that nobody can learn C++ or Java directly. This is because while learning these languages you have things like classes, objects, inheritance, polymorphism, templates, exception handling, references, etc. do deal with apart from knowing the actual language elements.
Your belief is very wrong. It is like saying nobody can learn how to drive a car without first learning how to ride a bike. Every programming language is self contained and can be learnt in isolation. However, due to similarities in syntax, paradigm or philosophy of some languages it may be easier to grasp one if already familiar with the other but never a requirement nor mandatory.
CrimeUnwholesome Practices of Mobile Network Providers by bb6xt(op): 5:39pm On Dec 18, 2015
I received a call from an unknown number 039-922-227 about an hour ago. After picking the call I discovered it was one of the numerous automated calls from my mobile network, which in this case is Airtel, so I promptly ended the call and proceeded to add the number to my Avast blocked numbers list.

At the same time I had ended the call I received an SMS from 922. When I checked this SMS it said:
FINANCIAL_WISDOM service has been activated on your Airtel Mobile. Charges: NGN 10.0 for 1 days.
I was sourly pissed by this message since I had not at any time subscribed to any service nor received any such service. I immediately called the Airtel customer care number (121) only to be told that I had subscribed for the service by a guy who gave his name as Salam. Try as I may to tell him that I did no such thing he remained adamant, offering only to unsubscribe me from the service without reverting my credit.

I am 100% sure that I NEVER subscribed to the service for which I was charged yet I must bear the cost of another's failure or fraud or both. This is not the first time this has happened, nor will it be last, and in each case the subscriber is made to bear the cost. I am indeed baffled and wonder under what stretch of imaginative lawyering does merely receiving and terminating a call you never initiated make you liable to paying for a service never rendered nor desired.

I have called the NCC complaints number (622) to report this issue as with many others but I don't expect I would get any redress whatsoever. However, I would be glad to be wrong. If this isn't criminal I wonder what is!

Bunch of nonentities ... how can jamb be valid for three years? Fools. Jamb is just an aptitude test. If it is valid for three years then it becomes an achievement nd you should be issued a certificate nd you should be able to work with it. Clowns jamb is to check ur level of reasoning at that current year.....foolish Nigerians
SAT (Scholastic APTITUDE Test) is the American equivalent of JAMB's UTME and it is valid for 5 years. It is also an aptitude test as you pointed out in your comment. Does having ours be valid for a year make our educational system better? I bet if you were an employer you'll prefer a US educated candidate to a locally trained one. I am 100% locally trained for your info.

The point I am trying to make is that it is wasteful. A student that is brilliant today will naturally be brilliant even 10 years from now. Academic brilliance is borne more from diligence and a commitment to excellence, traits which once acquired may go dormant momentarily but under the right environment spring forth.
EducationRe: Ojerinde Speaks On Validity Of UTME Results For 3 Years by bb6xt(m): 6:44pm On Nov 26, 2015
ENDTIMEgist:
According to him, such a policy would delay and obstruct the education progress of students across board.
The last time I checked TOEFL was still valid for 2 years and SAT has a 5 year validity. No one is saying the students cannot take the exam multiple times within the 3 years if they so desire.

I strongly believe JAMB should adopt the same approach as College Board and have UTME exams at least 5 times in one year with results being valid for at least 3 years. They can even make more money by charging a token for every additional school a candidate has elected to receive her/his result beyond the default number.

Another suggestion is to eliminate the first/second choice dichotomy and just submit all results of students who have chosen a particular school in one batch with nothing to indicate if the student chose the school as first or second choice.
