DSTVee: I left Nigeria in 2019 to join a start up in Berlin as a Lead Backend Engineer. At the time I joined I was the first and only black person in the company but by the time I left in October 2021 they had hired 3 more black engineers and everyone of them was Nigerian. Delivery Heroes (DH) in Berlin is one company that is known to have many Nigerian engineers. There are many such companies here in Germany. Companies only care about their bottom line and if they've hired a great engineer from a particular demographic they are more likely to hire more from that demographic. Most companies would ask their engineers for recommendations when hiring. It use to be that due to Nigeria's bad rap on internet scams, payment related companies were reluctant to hire Nigerian but that is no longer true as I know Nigerians working in Wise and N26. Nigerian engineers are doing pretty well in Berlin because many that came ahead have proven their value which makes it easier to get hired especially if you do well in interviews. As for links, personally I got my first job that brought me to Berlin through talent.io. I got my current job via LinkedIn. Greenhouse.io and indeed.com are some options too. A friend who has been in Berlin now for over 3 years got her first job by applying to companies on the who's hiring thread on hacker news (news.ycombinator.com). In summary: 1. Foreigners don't trust Nigerians: False 2. People will tell you blah: I just listed some sites above 3. After struggling a while...: Nothing good comes easy. Hone your skills. Fortune favors the prepared 4. Our name has spoil...: Bullshit! Just as scammers and drug dealers have spoiled our name overtime a new crop of hardworking, talented and driven Nigerians are undoing the damage done one heart at a time, one company at a time. Be that person that will help make things easier for other Nigerians after you. 20 Likes 5 Shares |

Where was the EFCC when one drunkard openly carried a bullion van of money to rig election? Remember when said drunkard boasted that because he is not in government and it is his money it is no one's business what he did with it? Can someone tell me if this Osagie is a government official? |

Family / Re: Lawyers Advise Women To Drop Maiden Name After Marriage by bb6xt(m): 3:11pm On Mar 16, 2019 |
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24 NKJV https://bible.com/bible/114/gen.2.24.NKJV The Bible says the man leaves his father and mother but says nothing about the woman leaving anywhere. How come it is the man that must hang unto what he has left while the woman gives up what she hasn't left? Those who insist that their spouse change her name are the ones who have the need to feel like they're "the man of the house". I don't require any validation to know I am. 2 Likes |
Politics / Re: Ozekhome Lists 9 Reasons Why CCT Arrest Order For CJN Onnoghen Is A 'vendetta' by bb6xt(m): 11:43pm On Feb 13, 2019 |
stephanie11: They said that the reason the CJN was suspended was because as head of the judiciary it was wrong for him to remain as CJN while he is being tried by the CCT. But the chairman of the CCT himself, the same one that issued the order for the CJN's suspension, has publicly stated that he is not a judicial office and answers only to the president. This means the CJN has no authority over the CCT. My question is, where then is the conflict of interest upon which the order to suspend the CJN was based? |
Politics / Re: Onnoghen: CCT Chair Snubs Query, Says I Report Only To Presidency by bb6xt(m): 1:04pm On Feb 10, 2019 |
If the CCT answers only to the president and if it's officials and chairperson are not judicial officers it then means the CCT is an institution of the Executive arm of the government. This makes it all the more wrong that one arm of the government namely the executive should have complete power to suspend the head of another equal arm of the government (the judiciary) without recourse to the third arm (legislature). This alone makes it unconscionable without considering the actual constitutional position which already prohibits it. If then the CCT is not a judicial body whence does it derive the power to issue exparte orders? That a government that has repeatedly disobeyed orders of courts of competent jurisdiction should hastily procure an order from a non court and proceed to act on it is very questionable to say the least. If any executive agency could grant an order for the head of any non executive arm of government to be removed and it will be implemented then it is only a matter of time before the National Examinations Council NECO will issue an exparte order for the removal of the Senate president and Buhari will proceed to do so even when the constitution has given neither him nor NECO such powers. This is lawlessness and in a lawless society NO ONE IS SAFE! 4 Likes 2 Shares |

A state house of assembly duly elected to make laws for the citizens of the state. Makes a law that is widely accepted by indigenes of the state. An interloper who is neither an indigene or resident of the state threatens violence if the law is not repealed. The state governor reports said interloper to buhari but buhari does nothing. The interloper carries out his threat of violence leading to the death of hundreds of indigenes of the state. This interloper has not been questioned talk less of arrested by buhari and walks free. Yet the same buhari talks of arresting people for hate speech? This is what happened in Benue. Hate speech is acceptable if you are a fulani or apc but illegal otherwise? Talk of double standard! |

Even those agitating for Biafra know that the only way Biafra can succeed is if the SS is part of it. The Igbos are highly talented and ingenious people and once they've resolved to achieve anything they usually do at any cost. Even if it requires war to get Biafra they have the resolve and capacity to achieve it. However, one thing working against them is Nigeria's ability to mount a successful and total blockade of food and resources entering Biafra. In my own opinion this is the only reason they failed the first time. It is even better for them if the SS decides to form their own republic at the same time. Otherwise, they'll be a landlocked country surrounded entirely by Nigeria (like Lesotho in South Africa). Now tell me who in their right senses will allow her airspace, land borders or waterways to be used as supply routes for their enemy? |

Going through this thread I have noticed that some posters plan to acquire a B. Ed/BSc (Ed)/BA (Ed) in order to become lecturers in future. Unless your goal is to teach at a level below tertiary level or lecture in a college of education you're better off with a BSc/BA/BTech/BEng instead. I teach in a polytechnic and recently those having education based degrees were either converted to non teaching staff or asked to get a PGD in the same field as their first degree in order to continue lecturing. (This is without prejudice to whether they graduated with a 2.1 or first class). It is understood that those with education based degrees must have spent a substantial part of their studies on education courses and so could not possibly have covered their core course in as much depth as someone with a BSc/BA etc. So, my advice is go for BSc/BA. 2 Likes |

You are not an excellent developer simply because you majored in CS. Personally, I look for passion for programming and an insatiable appetite for learning. You start depreciating as a software developer the second you stop learning. |

I am not affiliated to them in any way but I understand they need to fill these positions within the earliest possible time. Romance / Re: What Would You Do If Your Wife's Male Friend Buy This Expensive Gift From Her? by bb6xt(m): 3:31pm On Jul 16, 2016 |
I strongly believe she bought it with her own money which she doesn't want him to know she had in the first place. Saying it was a gift from a friend in this case will serve two purposes viz: hide the fact that she has some money saved up and make him jealous for not even trying to get her the phone. Ladies have strange ways of reasoning. It is an art to decipher what's really on their mind. It takes patience. |

I haven't logged in to Nairaland for nearly 2 months but when I saw this misleading post I just had to login and set the records straight. However, I am not disappointed to see that many others have come to defend Akwa Ibom state and Senator Akpabio's legacy of good works. I am from the middle belt and many who have defended Akwa Ibom in this thread are not from Akwa Ibom. That alone is a strong testament! |
Politics / Re: The Bad State Of Major Roads In Akwa Ibom And Abia State by bb6xt(m): 7:26am On Jul 07, 2016 |
kachysblog: This thread is not fair to Akwa Ibom state and the laudable strides the Akpabio government made in developing good roads in the state. All the roads mentioned are interstate roads which are the responsibility of the federal government. I have traveled on Aba - Ikot Ekpene and Umuahia - Ikot Ekpene roads and I can tell you boldly that in both cases as soon as you enter Akwa Ibom state you'll notice a significant improvement in the road due to the previous governor's foresight in fixing even federal roads in the state. Akpabio may be called many things but one thing you can't take away from him is his passionate love for his people and his contribution to making Akwa Ibom a better place. Quite fittingly, he is also dearly loved by Akwa Ibomites. Even Udom Emmanuel, the current governor exudes similar passion for his people and possess the right level of intellectual sagacity to do well should he desire to. |
Romance / Re: My Father! My Frustration!!! by bb6xt(m): 9:37pm On Jun 17, 2016 |
merikims: Even the best relationships have ups and downs and whenever our relationship hits a snag that is when we need family the most. For this reason my advice still remains that she shouldn't alienate her family completely. If she must stand her ground she should at least enlist the support of her mom and siblings. I am a man and I know that even when we love we sometimes hurt our significant other in ways that we never imagined. We may be distant and non communicative at other times. For such times it is often good if the lady has someone in her or her spouse's family to whom she could go for emotional support. That is why I believe we must cultivate the approval of our families when marriage is concerned. |
Romance / Re: My Father! My Frustration!!! by bb6xt(m): 5:19pm On Jun 17, 2016 |
Parents sometimes force their children into the difficult position of having to choose between what brings them happiness and pleasing parents. This is usually well-intentioned albeit wrong. I strongly advice against defying your dad. You should instead patiently help him see the good qualities which you yourself have seen in your guy. You'll have a better chance convincing him if you have a history of other good choices you've made in the past. Most parents know that even they didn't have all these qualities they are asking and all they really need is reassurance that your decision is well thought out. It is also a plus if your guy is gainfully employed and can reasonably take care of you as well as himself. |
