However, if there is an iota of truth to the story, then there must be a high level FG response to redouble his safety and security. That man is a well loved and respected national asset.

Such an attack too wouldn't do much for the breakup of the country, rather, it would draw in foreign forces to the North; I don't know if their handlers would want that, afterall they did not attack the British Consulate in Kano.
MI5 and MI6 must have good reason to put them high up on their watchlist though, especially with the sophistication of the attacks in Kano, it seems quite clear that boko haram is not a group of rag tag armed men. They are highly trained as a witness (most likely a Mopol) who in the Bompai barracks in Kano claimed:

Another witness said he saw close to 50 assailants when they attacked the police barracks and "killed every person inside except women and children."

He said began to climb the wall before they saw him and fired, hitting and injuring him.

The witness, who declined to give his name, said "all of them were dressed in either Mobile Police uniforms or Army camouflage. They also wore black cloth under their service caps. They appeared were more professional in the operation than the military."

They are most likely soldiers.

I wonder if the govt was able to track all the Nigerian soldiers that served in Gaddafi's army? That is the most likely source of such expertise in boko haram.
Even without being told, it is clear that the attack on Kano was to sophisticated to have been carried out any, but professionally trained soldiers.

Tue Jan 24, 2012 6:46AM

The blasts and gunshots were reportedly heard coming from an area near a police station in the city of Kano on Tuesday morning.

"I was awoken from sleep by explosions and gunshots coming from the mobile barracks and police station opposite," a resident reported.

"It's terrifying , It's too dangerous to go out, besides there is curfew," the resident added.

There are no reports of casualties yet. The Boko Haram group claimed responsibility for the Friday attacks that left at least 185 people dead.

The group said it carried out the attacks in reaction to the Nigerian authorities' refusal to release a number of Boko Haram members arrested in Kano.

A night-time curfew has been in place following the Friday attacks. Nigeria is Africa's most populous nation and largest oil producer.

Nigeria’s dangerous Islamists are a potential threat to Olympics
Boko Haram are now high on the watch list for both MI5 and MI6 in run-up to London Games

THE FIRESTORM of attacks on Kano this past weekend by the fanatics of the fundamentalist Boko Haram movement threatens civil war across northern and central Nigeria. The fear is Boko Haram (meaning western education is haram or forbidden) could also spread their message of hate and violence well beyond west Africa.

Along with its fellow extremists bent on violence - al-Qaeda and the Somali al-Shabaab in particular - Boko Haram is now high on the watch list for both MI5 and MI6 as a potential threat to the London Olympic Games this summer.

Al-Qaeda, al-Shabaab and Boko Haram are part of an extensive but loose network of radical Islamic groups with main centres in Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Caucasus, east and west Africa and in the Maghreb.

They pose a potential threat in the UK through links in various diaspora groups. Officially there are about 150,000 Nigerians living in the UK, but it is thought the real figure is well over 250,000. Similarly, about 65,000 Somalis or people of Somali descent are in the UK according to official figures. A Home Office source suggests that the real figure is also well over 250,000.

One of the largest Somali groups in Britain live close to the Olympic site in the borough of Tower Hamlets, where they are the second largest ethnic group after the Bangladeshis. Somalis in London have been known to be in communication with al-Shabaab via internet chatrooms.

Boko Haram was founded as an Islamic protest movement in 2002 by a charismatic cleric Mohammed Yusuf in Maiduguri [see Briefing].

Following Yusuf’s death in 2009, Boko Haram came under new command, and attacks in Nigeria intensified. On 26 August last year suicide bombers assaulted and the main offices of the UN in the capital Abuja, killing 24 people. For the second Christmas in succession last year, congregations of Christians were attacked as they worshipped in churches.

This past weekend, in the biggest attack so far, about 170 people were killed in Kano, and many more injured, in a string of rolling attacks by bombers on motorbikes.

The tactics are modeled on those of the Afghan and Pakistani Taliban, but it is the connections across Africa and Europe that cause concern.

Links with the newly reconstituted al-Qaeda in the Maghreb offer a jumping-off point for attacks into Europe, including the UK.

Al-Shabaab, too, offers connections to Europe and Britain – particularly as its fighters are coming under heavy pressure from the international force of African troops in southern Somalia, and are moving abroad.

Last Saturday, Bilal al-Berjawi, a commander who had grown up in the UK, was killed on the outskirts of Mogadishu by a strike from a drone launched from an airbase in Ethiopia. He had been a colleague of Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, who planned al-Qaeda’s bombings of the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar-es-Salaam in August 1998, and the bombing of an Israeli hotel in Mombasa in 2002.

Earlier this month American authorities charged a former US soldier Craig Baxman, 24, for abetting al-Shabaab and trying to join them after secretly converting to Islam while still serving. He was arrested on a bus in Kenya as he tried to make his way to Somalia.

Al-Shabaab and Boko Haram are a particular challenge, according to British security officials, because they thrive among the poorest, most marginalised sections of their diaspora communities – and these are the hardest to understand and penetrate. ·

Mr. Michael Ishola, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Yuguda also refuted the allegation against Governor Yuguda. “It is a very, very strange allegation, because the Isa Yuguda I know cannot be involved in such an allegation. We in Bauchi have been living in peace. We are not involved in that,” he told Vanguard yesterday.
This is very far from a categorical denial or condemnation. It is a sham statement, despicable, weak and pathetic from any direction it is viewed.
Isa Yuguda was one of those that made funny apologies to boko haram. He has done so in public on at least two occassions now.
Deeper investigations need be made at to what exactly he was apologising for and how he got into a relationship that requires repeated apologies.

It is noteworthy that both Isa Yuguda and Danjuma Goje are nursing presidential ambitions.

Second apology to Boko Haram, from Bauchi Gov Isa Yuguda

Alh ISA YUGUDA Governor of Bauchi State

On 2 July, the Bauchi State Governor, Alhaji Isa Yuguda, reportedly apologised to members of the militant Islamist group Jama’atu Ahlussunnah lidda’awati wal Jihad, commonly known as Boko Haram, for the trauma which the actions of his government might have caused them.

Governor Yuguda said his apology was in response to a publication in the 24 June 2011 edition of the Daily Trust, a leading Abuja-based newspaper, in which members of the sect demanded a “public apology” for perceived injustices done to them.

In the apology statement, the governor said “I apologise to the members of Jama’atu Ahlussunnah lidda’awati wal Jihad for perceived injustices caused them as they have the full rights to be protected by the law, and it forms part of my duty to ensure their rights are protected as guaranteed by the law”.

He said he hoped his apology will further the healing of the “trauma” that was caused to members of the sect “and other members of the public whom our actions were not directed against, but towards people understood to have taken the law into their hands”.

Yuguda said he hoped his gesture will also open the door to meaningful dialogue that will end hostilities and usher in peace which is the goal of Islam.

This is the second high-profile apology to Boko Haram. On 26 June, the former governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammad Danjuma Goje, had tendered a first, ground-breaking public apology to the group for whatever wrong he might have done to its members during the violent conflicts in the north-eastern states in 2009.

From your abode in some far off land, you claimed to have predicted that transport fares would double. Not stopping there, you went on to claim that your prediction was correct!
It would take some doing for a man that lives abroad to know what the man on the ground is feeling. No?

Well, Nigerians in Nigeria are telling you that your doomsday prediction never came to pass and that Nigerians have absorbed the cost. So why are you still frothing and why are you still wildly red-eyed, don't you think enough people have died yet?

You really need to take a deep breath, calm down and get rational, before you lose it completely.

Crap.

Transport fares have gone up, but it is bearable and increases are marginal compared to the doomsday predictions of the failed politicians that sponsored people to die needlessly for a govt policy that would ultimately benefit the country.

Are Nigerians in Nigeria up in arms? Why should it be those living abroad spreading bad blood, hatred and bitterness? Some gullible people were taken in and some have died as a result. Life is not cheap, it is a very precious thing, so please stop the hate mongering.

One thing that immediately strikes the observer, is how dirty the boko haram phucker was and how little he looks (a child?).
His clothes are grimy (shirt and trousers), he is unshod and his feet look like he never ever had a bath in his life.

Quite clearly, he was an almajiri driving a nice car packed with explosives. The core-North has accumulated 10 million almajiris over the decades (at the last count). That makes for several thousand abused souls that would be willing to die without shoes, so far its in a nice car; boko haram is a menace with truly frightening dimensions and possibilities.

Having a central government paying money to state governments is the fundamental reason why we will never tackle corruption, it is the reason why we will never have a proper census, it is responsible for biased election, it is responsible for our failed immigration policy, failed policing, the cost of running the huge fedral government is also unsustainable.
