^ Sharap dia! Northerners can be trusted, we just don't have the right bunch vying for office at the mo.
I think voters are starting to vote for personalties, not parties. Not a bad thing btw. . . that is more sophisticated voting than in many countries (including the US.) Anyway, if the people want Goodluck, I guess they'll get him ![]() I hope we won't regret this decision ![]() EDIT: With that said, perhaps Ipsos made some error when building their voter model. I still haven't seen state-by-state breakdowns yet.
That info will never be published, its for political parties to buy. Ipsos made more than a billion dollars selling such info last year. |
Nigerian polls put president ahead in election race Tue Mar 22, 2011 3:32pm GMT Nick Tattersall LAGOS (Reuters) - Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan is on course to win April elections but the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) could lose control of several states, according to local opinion polls. The surveys, published in Nigerian newspapers this week, vary widely in detail and scientific quality -- one claimed to have had 70 million SMS responses, roughly equivalent to every adult in the country -- but they broadly show a common trend. A poll published by the This Day newspaper carried out with global research group Ipsos showed just over 60 percent of respondents would vote for Jonathan, with his nearest rival, former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, on 22 percent. But it said the picture was different at a regional level. "A noticeable trend is the likelihood that the PDP may win the governorship in a state and lose the presidential in the same state, or vice versa," it said. Nigeria holds presidential elections on April 9, with parliamentary elections a week earlier and governorship elections in the 36 states a week later. The PDP candidate has won every presidential race in Africa's most populous nation since the end of military rule 12 years ago and history is expected to repeat itself in April. But to win in the first round, Jonathan needs to secure 25 percent of the vote in at least two thirds of the states, or else he will face a run-off with his nearest rival. Buhari -- a disciplinarian who ruled between December 1983 and August 1985 and is best remembered for his "War Against Indiscipline", a campaign against corruption -- is expected to win strong support in parts of the north. The This Day/Ipsos poll -- carried out between February 25-March 16 in all 36 states and the capital Abuja -- gave Buhari a clear lead in five northern states and a narrower lead in six others. RIBADU SEEN DISTANT THIRD Former anti-corruption chief Nuhu Ribadu is hoping to secure strong backing for his presidential bid in the southwest, the stronghold of his Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) party, but the poll put him on just 4.7 percent of the overall vote. It said 92 percent of respondents in Nigeria's most populous city of Lagos, in the southwest, would vote for sitting state governor Babatunde Fashola (ACN) in the governorship election, but 80 percent would vote Jonathan for the presidency. Jonathan inherited power after the death of late northern President Umaru Yar'Adua last year and is seeking what would have been Yar'Adua's second term. Buhari is hoping to capitalise on northern resentment at his candidacy but would need Ribadu to perform well in the southwest if he is to have a hope of forcing a run-off. A second poll carried out by local firm NOI Polls, which has a partnership with Gallup, said 68 percent of Nigerians approved of Jonathan's performance so far as president. The poll, commissioned by Nigerian civil society group the ANAP Foundation, said 53 percent of respondents expected Jonathan to win the April polls. It said 73 percent of those questioned were aware that Buhari was running for president, while only 48 percent were aware that Ribadu was standing. Jonathan has just completed a high-profile tour of the 36 states. Buhari's campaign is ongoing, while Ribadu's has been comparatively low key. http://af.reuters.com/article/topNews/idAFJOE72L0K620110322?sp=true |
May the soul of the pilot rest in peace. What a sad story. ![]() What Nigeria is doing with those useless refurbished 1960's jumped up MiG-21's is beyond me. |
I am so pained that most NLers do not understand Nigeria. I don't know if its from living abroad or just having no connection with the vibes of the country around you. The very suggestion is ridiculous. An Egypt style revolution is not possible in Nigeria. Period. Nigerians are too ethnically and religiously bigotted to act in unison, at best we will have a war. |
It is almost impossible to cross-breed separate species and where it succeeds, the offspring is usually shortlived and unhealthy. My take on evolution and the "out of Africa" theory? It is a gross racist insult. You can interprete it to mean that the African jumped off the tree and others evolved from them, therefore Africans are the closest to the monkey kingdom. |
I really hope our legal system can cope with such a figure. Where's your source though? If true, its a great step forward. |
^ Dude, your article is a very poor lie and an own goal. Deal with it. doja:With the bolded, you have contradicted every single word you wrote. If you know the way things are done in Nigeria, why compare us with the US? Instead of wasting your time running yourself in circles, join us and vote the only candidate who will take Nigeria out of the current backwardness and set us on the path of greatness, in ways that will make us comparable to the US. The most visible sign to Ribadu lovers, is the fact that GEJ has so completely democratised and opened up the Nigerian political to the extent that an ex-fugitive and political exile is back home walking freely and contesting the highest position of the land. That my friend, is a momentous change in the way things are done in Nigeria. The above said, I do not seem to recall either Bush or Clinton being spotted on a bus or taxi, headed out to campaign; I'm sure you don't as well. . . .Anyways, the long and short is, the thread is based on an article that is another horrible lie. No need to continue to honour lies. |
monkeyleg:Your article has been proven to be a lie. Live with it. lol! |
babaearly:By people with thin legs like you? ![]() Unu go take laf wound pesin o! . . .After getting caught lying, they start talking crap. |
monkeyleg:What other rumour carried Soyinka's name yesterday, aside from the primitive CPC nonsense? Dude, Soyinka is a man of high intellect, class, taste, sophistication and honour; unlike people like you who at one time or the other, has been a member of PDP, ACN, DPP and now CPC. You can lie, but you will be exposed. Indeed, if Soyinka decides to press matters to their fullest, some NL people would have a forgery case to answer. I am sure the more sensible ones will take Soyinka's action as a warning; those who desist and press on with soiling an impeccable name and one of pride to Nigeria, will pay the price for their gutter attitudes and primitive stone throwing outlook. |
^ With every passing day, you sound more and more like a plague that erupted from the wards of Yaba psychiatric hospital. Sad. ![]() naijangel7:My apologies, sis. I mistook you for someone else. |
successtay:. . .And he is maligning Soyinka! Time for praying and fasting. ![]() |
doja:No, the Nigerian President will join you to catch a bus at Mile 2. Rubbish. |
blink182:Tell that to the clown whose profile says he is only half Nigerian. The rest of us are FULLY Nigerian. |
Fashola has done well generally, but his fear of PDP is real. Ikorodu where he spoke, is a PDP area. |
blink182: Too high for what?! ![]() |
naijangel7:And what the hell is www.247nigeria.com? LOL!!!!! Why don't you quote Nairaland as your authoritative news source next time as well? |
jason123:Why should that concern me? It is for the Igbo's to decide if they wish to go into active politics or if they are content with the hospitality of the Egun, Yoruba and other indegenious groups. Get your answer from the Igbo's. But the facts of Lagos demographics are plain for all to see. |
klear:Do you know of any other false rumour concerning Wole Soyinka that was sent everywhere, from facebooks to emails and text messages? It happened yesterday and Soyinka reported the forgery to the police yesterday as well. Do you need to be spoonfed? |
Chuks84:Lol, dude. BB makes itself look bad with their primitive methods of rumours, lies, bomb and stone throwing. They don't need anybody to make them look bad, its in the DNA! ![]() As for claiming that PM News is not worthy of carrying the news that Wole Soyinks has reported the lies spread by CPC agents to the police, guy, thats too sad! You can do better. Make time out to apologise to Wole Soyinka. |
sbeezy8:Dude, 42% Igbo is the figure from Tinubu's census. As for the xx% SS go to Ajegunle which houses 3million people. For the xx% Northern population, Apapa, Wharf, Ketu etc should convince you. |
Chuks84:No sir, with due respect, you are the bigger dunce. ![]() While you wonder around, stunned by the profuse crap that emanates from your sorry thought processes, could you take time out to point out a link to the story CPC followers spread yesterday about Wole Soyinka and NN24? If you can't, then why open your mouth? No low has been too low for your stone throwing rumour machine, but this time, you've been caught in public. If I were you, I would keep hold of some dignity and apologise to Wole Soyinka for using his name to LIE. Fresh Air is blowing and your brand of gutter politics is self-destructing in divine confusion. Nigeria is entering a new era of peace, truth and honour, join in or be crushed by truth. |
Cheap lies. Even our local musicians hire helicopters as a matter of routine and they don't have $10,000.00 per hour to throw around. More important than the above, the Presidency has a fleet of helicopters and does not go about hiring and renting. Your story is another figment of the low quality imagination that churned out lies about Wole Soyinka to the extent he went to the police. Shame. . . .By the way, the liars should also find out what it truly costs to hire a helicopter. lol! |
stildude:Thank you jare! They think everyone is blind and uninformed. |
vinmol:No, I simply meet you guys head on and knock your lights out. Check the thread and tell me who kicked off the abusing, before that though; STOP DIVERTING, cos you've been caught with your pants down. Your energies would be better spent writing an apology letter to Wole Soyinka and the Nigerians you attempted to fool. |
Pharoh:Do you mind them? When they are caught pants down, they start throwing personal insults to divert away from the issue at hand and to hide their shame. Can you imagine the dastardly behaviour of telling telling lies in Wole Soyinka's name? To the extent that the man has had to make a report of forgery to the police? It is an absolute disgrace, but their reactions are to be expected from dishonest people caught with their hands in the pot, stealing meat like kids. Fresh Air is blowing away ugly politics of deciect, character assassination, bare-faced lies and stone throwing. Nigeria is changing, regardless of the gutter crew and their dishonest politics. |
blacksta:Most people on NL look at you as a fool who never has any thing worthy of note to say. Scurry back into the bushes. |
Bukittes:Tell them! We are all equally Nigerian, but some of these peoples views are so alien to the average Nigerian that you wonder if they are from Mars. |
Beaf, your defense of the disgraceful embarassment of the President and herself, by the first lady, is pathetic, inexcuseable and pitiful. With people like you advicing the president, it is no wonder that GEJ's gaffes are just as bad as his wife's. Can you people find a way to reach these people who do not have shoes, as you described them, without embarassing yourselves. With olodos like you as advisers, I shouldn't be surprised. Tell your uncle who made you a special adviser, that it is impossible to stop most political waves - Buharism is a wave that is sweeping across Nigeria and appears to be unstoppable.
You can waste your time worrying about Patience Jonathan, the fact is she is a crowd magnet for grassroots support. Thats what is known as, talisman. For the first time, we have a family in Aso Rock that is 100% representatitve of Mr and Mrs Average and Mr and Mrs Deprived/Opressed. They accurately represent the grassroots, so you can spend your silverspooned sweat making uninformed noises, but one thing remains clear; the average Nigerian who wore no shoes, and had no car to drop them off at school, see inspiration that is almost divine in Mr and Mrs Jonathan. Whenever you poke fun at the Jonathans, you are poking fun at the grassroots and displaying an unbecoming arrogance. But the revenge of the grassroots will come April 9th. ![]() |
Rewind. . . Buhari people - "Its a primitive World, where we tell lies and throw stones!" |
Pataki:I'm sure it feels bad to be branded a liar and reported to the police. lol! Adult liars. You grazers and political lowlife scum will continue to get caught out and trounced at every step. Good always overcomes evil, the stones you throw will come back to scatter and shatter your low quality brains. Imagine telling lies in the name of our only Nobel Laureate? Damn! The shock and horror of it all! What is the next rumour? |
