^ Kai! Una many like dis? ![]() Dude, cost to who? Thats the golden question. |
^ Itsekiri is a mixture of proto-Yoruba (which is not Yoruba, but its ancestor) and Igala. It is a language that is far closer to Igala than Yoruba; more than that, the Igala also claim to to be the ancestors of the Yoruba (this is seemingly supported by anthropology). So, if anything, the Itsekiri are progenitor of the Yoruba, which makes any expansionist claims absolutely ridiculous. . . .By the way, your quote from Ayomike is miles out of context and has nothing to do with the current argument. |
ROSSIKE:Some Nigerians are a strange breed indeed! Not only will they beam their negative thoughts, they also go overboard to throw voodoo calculations at us. Look at the shameful thing Ibime did up there; the fact that it is an absolute sham didn't stop a couple of other dullards hailing it as illuminating. For one thing, it is quite clear he didn't read the article before expending so much energy. I'm not surprised why so many people fail basic math and comprehension. I have pasted the very first paragraph of the article for emphasis (also, as proof that it wasn't read and that some simply criticise based on some primordial instinct). It is really mystifying how Ibime began talking about the Nigerian budget, whereas the article is quite clearly about Public Private Partnerships. I weep: Nigeria will sign binding memorandums of understanding with oil companies for the building of petrochemical and fertilizer plants at a cost of $20 billion “in the weeks ahead,” the country’s petroleum minister said.http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-03-01/nigeria-to-sign-deal-with-investors-for-20-billion-plants-1-.html English comprehension might be the problem here. |
Johndoe100:lol! I can assure you that scientific researchers will be highly interested. One thing is certain though, those of them specialising in human brain research will be mystified to find a completely new hominid species. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australopithecus_afarensis ![]() |

A lot of the words listed are Isoko and Urhobo words as well. So? lol Becomerich, go and sit down! Itsekiri is an older language than Yoruba, in case you don't know. Like I told another illiterate expansionist, its like the US claiming England is American. Abeg, keep my peeps out of your hairbrained schemes. |
The only important things to the West about Nigeria are, our high population and our oil. In the event of a war, the West will come heavily on the side of the ND and SE where 99% of our proven oil reserves lie. The Americans have already stated quite clearly that they consider the ND to be colonized by the rest of Nigeria. The West though, will be unlikely to want an outright breakup, because of the threat of Boko Haram and similar forms of religious radicalisation taking root in a new Nigeria "liberated" from the ND and SE and absolutely poverty stricken. After a short, sharp battle, we will have true federalism and secularism written into our constitution in indelible ink. After the resounding defeat, iwill be every man for himself in a true federal framework, however the ND and SE will become the new lords of the manor. . . Until oil dries up. |
The African Union should be BOMBED. ![]() |

Lol. Buhari will soon stand naked! There is nothing worse than a father of corruption posing like he is a saviour, its even worse when the man turns out 100% clueless when asked about his very own policies in a televised debate. |
PDP exposes Buhari on corruption •Gets Ribadu's record ready Sunday, 20 March 2011 The Presidential Campaign Council [PCC] of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the anti-corruption posturing of the presidential candidates of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Malam Nuhu Ribadu which it described as hypocritical, and self- serving. The Campaign Council advised the two candidates to desist from selling wrong images about themselves, stating that evidence detailing their misdemeanour and unwholesome conduct abound to prove that they were not the innocent politicians that they have been claiming to be. It said it would be more acceptable if Buhari and Ribadu limit their campaign promises to the manifestoes of their respective political parties and the personal agenda that they have for the country rather than portraying themselves as apostles of anti-corruption which it said they are far from. In a statement issued in Abuja, the Director of Research and Strategy of the PCC, Mike Omeri said that the antecedents of the two, who he described as self-acclaimed anti-corruption ‘stars’ had proved that they had had their hands soiled with acts of corruption during their different years in government. It threatened to fully expose the two presidential candidates and match them action for action in their avowed commitment to dent the image of President Goodluck Jonathan with lies that they have been peddling against him. Omeri, in the statement recalled that in 1984 General Buhari exhibited double standard in public administration by allowing 52 suit cases suspected to be filled with hard currency through his ADC into Nigeria without passing through the customs check point for the mandatory custom clearance. He said the development was a clear case of money laundering. “And we wonder what moral right such a candidate had to talk about anti- corruption”. The statement stated further that the case of Nuhu Ribadu the erstwhile chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was more shocking. The Campaign Committee recalled that In 2007 while answering questions from the Senate on the alleged acts of corruption by some governors, Ribadu pointedly said that the corruption of the former governor of Lagos state, Senator Bola Tinubu was “of international dimension”. It added, “Is it not curious that the same person with such a tag is now the political godfather of Ribadu and sole financier of his political campaigns? “To also show Ribadu’s lack of faith in the anti-corruption fight, he recently said and we quote:“I won’t bother myself with the integrity of politicians that will fund my campaign. I will take corrupt politicians money for my campaign as far as the money is not put in my pocket.” “What kind of role model is Ribadu and how can Nigerians believe him if he says that he will jail corrupt politicians if he emerges as the country’s president? “Ribadu by such posturing has given Tinubu a clean bill of health which is not only hypocritical, but evidence that given the same opportunity, he would not have done better than the governors whom he had indicted. http://www.tribune.com.ng/sun/index.php/front-page-articles/3432-pdp-exposes-buhari-on-corruption-gets-ribadus-record-ready |
The biggest problem in the North is illiteracy. Govt needs to declare something akin to a state of emergency in the educational sector to lift the North out of poverty. Travelling through some Northern parts is almost like living through the pages of a dairy of human rights abuse, the poverty in some places can barely be described. Mass education will help to alleviate suffering in no small measure by opening doors and opportunities. Mass education, however is a medium term solution. What is needed in the shorter term, is a boost to the quality of life of the peasant farmer. As homerac7 mentioned, they are almost addicted to information from their radio's, a very massive plus! The radio services must be used to educate them on the benefits of fertilizers and how they can band together to access supplies. Also, govt should streamline other services to their radio messages, such as; how storage and transportation of produce will be delivered, as well as the teaching and propagation of modern farming skills. |

Nigeria's north risks growing sense of alienation 18 Mar 2011 09:17 Source: reuters // Reuters * Nigeria has sub-Saharan Africa's largest Muslim population * Parts of north risk growing marginalisation * April polls pit president against northern ex-ruler By Nick Tattersall KANO, Nigeria, March 18 (Reuters) - Standing on the dancefloor among shards of glass and splintered wood, Tony Baisie rues the day he agreed to help set up a nightclub in one of West Africa's oldest Islamic cities. For more than 15 years this converted office on an industrial back street in Kano, northern Nigeria, was a thriving business. Customers -- Christian and Muslim -- would dance among its mirrored walls or shoot pool in the courtyard outside. But three weeks ago, members of Hisbah -- a uniformed Islamic squad set up by Kano's state governor in 2003 to enforce sharia (Islamic law) -- raided the club, smashing tables and chairs, and seizing its drinks stocks and sound systems. "They took me away and detained me overnight," Baisie said. "Before they released me they made me sign an undertaking I would not sell alcohol or play music ever again in Kano." Africa's most populous nation -- roughly divided into a Muslim north and Christian south, but with sizeable minorities living in both regions -- is full of paradox. It is home to more Muslims than any other country in sub-Saharan Africa but is also the world's second biggest consumer of Guinness beer. A secular government sits in Abuja in the centre of a fervently religious nation. Mega churches in Lagos to the south attract weekly congregations numbering tens of thousands, while the north traces its Islamic heritage back centuries to the trans-Saharan trading routes linking it to north Africa. Around a dozen northern states have introduced sharia over the past decade, but it is practised to varying degrees and only four of them have enforcement squads like Kano's Hisbah, a force of around 9,000 men in green and black uniforms. Sa'idu Ahmad Dukawa, their director-general, makes no apologies for what he says is a mission to purify the city. "We are aware many non-Muslims in Kano are complaining bitterly that we are applying sharia on them because we are saying stop bringing alcohol to Kano, stop opening brothels. They feel it is an infringement of the rights of Christians," he said in his office, speaking in soft, measured tones. "But I always argue that the fact we do not close churches, the fact we do not stop them from praying, the fact we do not force any one of them to Islam, I do not think there is any infringement. This is strictly social control." RISK OF MARGINALISATION Kano is generally accepted to be Nigeria's second most populous city after Lagos, although many of its residents insist on the accuracy of a 2006 census which put the state's population higher than its southern rival at 9.4 million people. Its low-rise streets, lined by acacia and tamarind trees coated in a permanent layer of dust from the Sahara, are a far cry from the lagoon-side sprawl of Lagos, which spills chaotically across what were once mangrove swamps. Kano's legions of motorcycle taxis, weaving their way around child beggars, are a familiar sight from other parts of Nigeria. But in recent years they have started to carry predominantly male passengers, an outward sign of the city's growing Islamic conservatism. Women, their heads veiled, travel in yellow three-wheeled tricycles, a black curtain around the passenger compartment shielding them from sight. At night much of the city is dead, apart from one street in the Christian neighbourhood of Sabon Gari. Plastic tables and chairs spill into the road around dimly-lit shacks. The Hisbah have agreed a pact with a few bar owners here and turn a blind eye, but the beer is kept behind curtains. Some diplomats fear growing religious conservatism, hostility to Western values and pervasive poverty could allow radicals to gain a hold, particularly as they set the north at odds with the rest of Nigeria, which is increasingly liberalising as it opens up to ever greater foreign investment. Southern Nigeria is home to the mainstay oil industry and the flourishing banking sector, while the textile industry and agriculture of the north are in decline. The upper echelons of the military and civil service have increasingly been staffed by southerners since the end of military rule 12 years ago. "The impoverished North, with its rivalry between Muslims and Christians and its new, indigenous forms of radical Islam, has become increasingly alienated from the government in Abuja," wrote former U.S. ambassador John Campbell in a book published last year called "Nigeria: Dancing on the Brink". "Without Abuja moves to counter this alienation, the North has the potential to provide a major impetus towards state failure," said Campbell, ambassador to Nigeria from 2004-2007. RADICAL SECTS Campaigning for elections next month, which pit southern President Goodluck Jonathan against northern former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari, has so far been largely free of the sort of rhetoric that seeks to whip up regional rivalries. Kano state governor Ibrahim Shekarau, who set up the Hisbah, is also running in the presidential race but is a rank outsider. Although Buhari is expected to win by a significant majority in Kano, campaign posters plastered on walls around the city are a patchwork of different candidates and parties, and plenty of ruling party supporters are vocal in debate on the street. But some in the north fear another four years of rule by a southerner could further marginalise their region. In the remote northeastern city of Maiduguri -- centre of the centuries-old Sultanate of Borno -- a radical Islamist sect has waged a campaign of violence against the state government. Members of Boko Haram, which means "Western education is sinful", shot dead a leading governorship candidate in January and staged an uprising in 2009 in which hundreds died. The leader of Hisbah said strict enforcement of sharia was a bulwark against such unrest in Kano and, in a thinly-veiled threat, warned against any new government undermining it. "The average Muslim has a teaching which tells him that once a town is sanitized there should be no more violence," he said. "The conscience of non-Muslims living in Kano is left to them. Either they sacrifice the alcohol business and prostitution business , or they continue to fight it and bear the responsibility for the consequences," Dukawa said. "The Ulama (Islamic scholars) will stop teaching that there is sharia, that Kano is sanitized, maybe some will go out of their way to tell people that non-Muslims living in Kano have killed sharia. And then let us wait and see the consequences." temmytanny:Wait for the BON debate that will be open to all television and radio stations nationwide, not to a handful of elite satellite TV customers. GEJ will present himself and demolish the dissapointing pretenders that showed up at NN24. lol Aside Shekarau, there was nothing to watch at the NN24 debate anyway, Ribadu and Buhari showed their abyssmal lack of grasp. |

LOL! Buhari absolutely lacks any form of sophistication and is barely literate, he gave his best which just happens to be stone throwingly mediocre. He has zero grasp of issues and a mind that cannot even form coherent replies to topical questions. Its time for us to can every vestige of recycled garbage that keeps poking above the political horizon, IBB, Buhari etc. |

Save Nigeria Group suspends Bakare, Odumakin . Friday, 13 August 2010 01:00 Abbas Jimoh The crisis rocking the Save Nigeria Group (SNG) took a new dimension yesterday with the suspension of Pastor Tunde Bakare, Mr. Yinka Odumakin and Malam Salihu Lukman from the group. Co-ordinator of Lawyers of Conscience, Benedict Ezeagu, in company of the Secretary General of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Willy Ezugwu, told journalists in Abuja that the trio refused to be cautioned after series of warning to stop activities that are inimical to the objectives of the SNG. Ezeagu said the suspension order stands till the proper constitution of the organization’s leadership structure and urged Barrister Femi Falana to convene a meeting of all stakeholders of the SNG within two weeks. He accused the three of meeting with some politicians and presidential aspirants and negotiating, using the group’s name, to become their running mates promising to either register SNG as a political party or to collapse the group’s structure to the aspirants’ parties. He said, “The three were reported to have met with the former EFCC chairman, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and have also met with some other politicians.” The three were also reportedly in support of Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential ambition, while the majority members of the group want it to remain non-partisan. . . . http://www.dailytrust.com/dailytrust/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1076:save-nigeria-group-suspends-bakare-odumakin&catid=1:news&Itemid=2 |
Aside from the single hilarious bit I highlighted, the article speaks of deep confusion. It is lesson 101 of how the politics of ethnic bigotry will chew itself up and spit the mangled bits out. After our fake federal structure, ethnic bigotry is Nigeria's next biggest problem. |
April polls: Who speaks for the North? NewsMar 19, 2011 By Chioma Gabriel, Deputy Editor Discordant tunes are rising from the North, distorting the once political homogeneity of that part of the country ahead of next month’s elections, particularly the presidential race. Facing President Goodluck Jonathan in the election are the likes of General Muhammadu Buhari, a former military ruler, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, pioneer Chairman, EFCC, and Governor Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano). The once powerful Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, is sharply divided, its chairman, General Ibrahim Haruna having been sacked over his perceived support for President Goodluck Jonathan; while the recently formed Northern Political Leaders Forum, NPLF, appears unsteady after some of its members were taken in by the State Security Service, SSS, over alleged plot to “poison” President Jonathan. A new group has since emerged, called Northern Stakeholders, which says NPLF should not be trusted. Meanwhile, elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai says the North “has not chosen anybody to speak for it.” NPLF yet to decide — Bello The Secretary General of NPLF, Mallam Abdulkadir-Bello says it is not true that the group has decided to throw in its lot with President Jonathan. Mallam Bello who was one of the NPLF members quizzed by the SSS said: “ The NPLF has not yet decided on whether to support Jonathan candidacy or not. The decision day by NPLF was the day I was arrested. But we would meet very soon on that. But seriously speaking, there could be 5th columnists either on our side or their side trying to disrupt whatever move either of the groups is trying to make. It’s strange, baseless and ordinarily ,common sense would have revealed that some people are out to achieve an ulterior motive. We don’t trust NPLF,–Northern Stakeholders Forum However, a member of the newly formed Northern Stakeholders Forum said: NPLF and Atiku want to enter an agreement with Jonathan which we in Northern Stakeholders Forum, are opposed to. Our aim is not to support Jonathan but to bring together all the progressive forces in the North. Our activities have seriously dented Adamu Ciroma whose wife is out there campaigning vigorously for Jonathan. Ciroma should not be pretending he is not supporting Jonathan when his wife is out there doing so. Why would Bibi Farouk want to kill Jonathan? Why would they want to do that and how? Does Jonathan go about drinking or eating anyhow ? They are trying to revive their legitimacy. That is why no group from the North is raising dust over the harassment of NPLF members. To us, the harassment was stage managed . “Our group is against insulting Jonathan but our main agitation is for all presidential candidates from the North to step down for one candidate. It is either we have Buhari or Ribadu or Shekarau or John Dara even though the last two are not significant players because they do not pose any threat. John Dara, is an eloquent man but not a threat to any presidential candidate. “This arrest is stage-managed, plotted to prepare ground to enter Jonathan’s government. We pointed out the inconsistencies of Ciroma in the past . Ciroma has no electoral value and cannot deliver a ward. Even Jonathan has come to accept that fact. Arresting them is giving them credibility so as to pave the way for working with Jonathan. Why would they poison Jonathan? . It is an insult to our credibility. And come to think of it, no Northern group raised hell over these arrests and is that not telling you something? Something is fishy here. We don’t play politics in ACF – Aliko Mohammed, ACF Chairman Alhaji Aliko Mohammed who replaced IBM Haruna as Chairman, Arewa Consultative Forum says: “Our points in politics are well known and of course, we will prefer a Northern presidential candidate. We have three Northern presidential candidates in the persons of Buhari, Ribadu and Shekarau who are also members of ACF. The PDP has got theirs and in their constitution, they talked about zoning which they are not keeping. Sambo attended our meeting last week Tuesday like other members. We have not decided on any of the Northern presidential candidates. They are politicians and ACF is not about politics. ACF is not like NPLF which is a Northern political group led by Ciroma who is a member of PDP. ACF cannot speak on SSS arrest of NPLF members because they are politicians and members of PDP. It’s not ACF’s problem because they are not being hounded as members of ACF. It’s a political issue and not a matter for ACF.” Nobody is mandated to speak for the North — Yakassai Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, elderstatesman says nobody is mandated to speak for the North on presidency 2011. “The North has not chosen anybody to speak for it. There are three people vying for this position and every one of them is sponsored by a political party that is made up of people who believe in its manifestoes. These people are national presidential candidates, not Northern political candidates. We have the NPLF who are people in the PDP who decided to set up a committee to pick one of them as a consensus presidential candidate. It was entirely a matter for PDP. The three candidates from the North are candidates of Nigeria and they are supported by their parties. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/03/april-polls-who-speaks-for-the-north/ |

A simple test to prove the success or failure of our education system is to provide an earnest reply to the following:
[li]What are the clear-cut goals (if any) of the various steps of our education system?[/li] [li]How do they key into our cultures and traditions?[/li] [li]How does our educational system enhance our developmental status?[/li]
The three basic questions above show our system of education to be a stark failure. We could even go much further and ask why Nigeria does not seem to be producing geniuses, a failure which is resounding beyond measure. According to empirical findings, geniuses should make up 2.2% of the population. Nigeria, with a population of 140million should have 3,080,000 geniuses (yeah, thats a cool 3million). Where are they? And why has the education failed to identify and nuture them? Our education system is a failure, and so is Buhari. |
No one should be shocked at Buhari. The man claimed to have once been a cattle rearer, it obviously hasn't been washed out of his system. What a disgrace! Everything about the man is low quality anti-educational stuff, just look at the almajiri hoards at his rallies, not just that, but several of his followers are on trial for violent acts (including bombing). |
LOL! We had another very low quality display by men who wish to be president out of desperation only. They revealed their shocking lack of ideological grounding in all issues. Disgraceful. Lets wait for the traditional BON debate that GEJ will attend, he is the only grounded aspirant. |
